MALCOLM PRITCHETT
Malcolm Smith Pritchett Age 86 of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on February 23, 2009. He was born on November 6, 1922 to the late Malcolm S. and Grace E. (Smith) Pritchett in Marydel, Maryland. He graduated from Wilmington High School and Stewart Technical School in Manhattan, New York and served in the U.S. Navy Fleet Airwing 7 in Devonshire, England during WW II. After his marriage to his beloved wife Eleanor, they raised their family in Bethpage, Long Island where Malcolm worked for Grumman, Republic and LaGuardia Airports and later for Atlantic Aviation in Wilmington. Malcolm was an avid basketball player on Wilmington CYO teams as well as teams in New York City and received a full scholarship to Syracuse University in Track and Field. He was a State of Delaware Champion in Horseshoes and a great outdoorsman who loved surf fishing at Montauk Point, Long Island and Fenwick Island, DE. He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Judith A. Pritchett. The greatest joy in Malcolm’s life was his family, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be forever missed by his beloved Ellie after 60 years of marriage; his son Bruce A. Pritchett of Kennett Square, PA, his daughter Joan E. Kozicki and husband Stan of Wilmington, DE., his pride and joys, grandchildren Christopher Kozicki and wife Anne, Matthew Kozicki, Elizabeth Kozicki, Jesse Pritchett and dearly loved great grandchildren, Michelle and Sean Kozicki . He is also survived by his sister Ellen Pickering and husband Kenneth of Hockessin, DE and brother Wayne Pritchett and wife Doris of Lady Lakes, FL and numerous nephews and nieces. The funeral service will be held on Friday February 27, 2009 at 12:30 pm. In the McCrery Memorial Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Wilm. DE 19803. Family and friends are welcome at 11:30 for visitation. Burial will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery, Bear, DE. MARY G. RAINIER
Mary G. Rainier Age 88, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Secane, PA, died on Monday, July 27, 2009 at Shipley Manor. Mary was the wife of the late John W. Rainier, Sr., to whom she was married for 57 years. She was born in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Edwin E. and Margaret M. Graham. She attended West Philadelphia HS. and was a beautician before she was married and worked as a secretary at the Franklin Institute after marriage. She volunteered at the Riddle Thrift Shop for many years. Mary was a member of the Church of the Redeemer in Springfield, PA and previously a member at St. Michael Episcopal Church in Yeadon, PA. Mary enjoyed sewing, growing flowers and visits from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary especially enjoyed cooking for her family. She is survived by her son, John W. Rainier, Jr., and his wife, Sueko; 3 grandchildren, Edwin Rainier and his wife Cathie, John W. Rainier, III, and Maricia Kligge and her husband Joseph and 4 great grandchildren. HUMBERT J. "BERT" RANAUTO
Humbert J. Ranauto “Bert” Age 84 of Wilmington, DE, passed on to eternal life on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at the Wilmington Hospital, Wilmington, DE Bert was born in the Bronx, NY to the late Humbert and Mary Ranauto. He was a graduate of Fordham University with a B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry. He was a US Navy hospital corpsman during WWII. Bert worked for ICI Americas and the predecessor companies for 33 years as a chemist, in applications research and technical service with surface active agents, retiring in 1981. Bert was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Church and an Emeritus member of the American Chemical Society. He enjoyed piano music, water colors, reading and gardening. Bert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rose (Armandola) Ranauto; 4 children, Mary Ellen Ranauto, Andrea Ranauto Hagelstein and her husband Walter, Richard J. Ranauto and his wife Sherry and Michael P. Ranauto and his wife Beth, all of Wilmington; and 15 grandchildren, Amanda Rose, Renato, Alicia, Amanda, Peter, Nicole, Michael, Jessica, Jenna, Vincenzo, Marissa, Anthony, Adam, Shana, and Alex, and 2 great grandchildren, Paul and Landon. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joan Marie and sister, Lenore Stiliho. VIVIAN RASH
Vivian Lessey Rash Age 92, died at Forward Manor on Tuesday August 25th 2009. She was the first of six children born to Glenn and Cora Graybeal. She was preceded in death by her first husband Arthur Gerald Lessey, MD and her second husband Paul Rash. She was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family and was an active member of Hillcrest United Methodist Church. Vivian is survived by two sons, a daughter, one step-son and one step-daughter, six grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish her memory are two brothers and two sisters. Edith “Bea” Rathbone Age 70, went home to be with the Lord on August 16, 2009. Bea loved to travel with her husband, Donald and son, Joe when he was young. She was a waitress at the Charcoal Pit on Concord Pike, retiring in 2002 after 38 years. Bea was a member of Marshallton United Methodist Church and the Mill Creek Ladies Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Edith Tull, son, Kenneth Hudson, and sister, Anne Stevenson. She is survived by her husband, Lloyd (Don) Rathbone, son, Joseph Rathbone, sister, Betty Tull, and twin brother, Lee Tull and wife, Jane, step-son, Dennis Rathbone and wife, Sue, step-daughter, Deborah Greenwood and husband, Bill, grandchildren, David, Bridget, and Fred, step grandchildren, Eddie, Billy, Melissa, Eric, Casey, and Bryant, and step great-grandchildren, Kaleigh, Cheyenne Lynn, and Bryce. Melissa J. Renai Age 40, of Wilmington, DE passed away on October 23, 2008. Anne S. Rennie, age 89, died Sunday, April 5, 2009 at Arden Courts of Wilmington where she had been a resident for 7 years. Anne was born and raised in Philadelphia and moved to Wilmington 50 years ago. She retired from Talbots, Greenville Store, after a number of years as a saleswoman. Anne was predeceased by her husband, Arch, in 1989. She is survived by a sister, Jean E. Scharer in Sellersville, PA and a cousin. KELLY F. RIGGS
Kelly F. Riggs Age 26, of Wilmington, DE, went to be with her Lord after a short but courageous battle with leukemia on Friday, December 12, 2008 in the Christiana Hospital. Kelly graduated from the Howard HS of Technology in 2000 in electrical trades. She worked as an auditor in shipping at Zenith Products in New Castle, DE. She loved all music and art She was a devoted and loving mother to her 19 month old son, Julius A. Soto. She was also survived by her loving fiancé, Juan Soto; mother and step-father, Marcia A Riggs and Stevan Fajardo; father, Francisco Dividu; sister, Katherine Riggs; step-brother Victor Mendoza all of Wilmington and numerous aunt, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. ANNA M. & PAUL E ROHRBAUGH
Anna M. Rohrbaugh Paul E. Rohrbaugh Anna Mary Rohrbaugh nee' McCullough, born in Seitzland PA, died on November 15, 2008 and her husband Paul Edward Rohrbaugh, born in York County PA, died on November 19,2008, both in Wilmington DE after brief illnesses. Anna worked for many years as a counselor at the former Woods Haven-Kruse School for Girls in Claymont, and was a past Worthy Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an avid traveler, active in several church communities during her years in northern New Castle County, and enjoyed the study and writing of poetry. Paul served in the North African, Sicilian, and Southern Italian Campaigns during the Second World War, and spent the greater part of his career in various capacities at the DuPont Experimental Station near Wilmington. He shared his wife's enjoyment of travel, and was a reader of great scope and depth. They are survived by one son, Dennis E. Rohrbaugh of Wilmington and New York City, one brother each, and several nieces and nephews. Interment was private. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, December 13, at 12 Noon at Mount Lebanon United Methodist Church, 850 Mount Lebanon Road, Wilmington, DE 19803. STEPHEN ROMEO
Stephen Michael Romeo, 43, of Wilmington, DE, formerly of Cape May, NJ died on April 27, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. Steve was a graduate of Lower Cape May Regional High School and the Hotel Dupont Culinary Training Program in Wilmington, DE. He was employed as the Regional Food Service Director for Atria Senior Living Inc. based in Lousiville, Kentucky. Prior to that Steve was the Director of Dining Services for Maris Grove, the Erickson Living facility in Chadds Ford, PA and the Director of Culinary and Nutrition Services for several facilities for ACTS Retirement Life Communities. Steve was also a professionally trained chef and spent his entire career in the food service industry. Steve was very proud to be a 4th degree Knight of Columbus. He was an avid Philadelphia Sports fan who loved to entertain family and friends on “Eagle Sundays”. He was preceded in death by his brother, Victor Romeo and is survived by his wife Maureen Romeo (McGinley), son Stephen Michael Jr., and daughters Victoria Anne and Alexis; father and stepmother Victor and Susan Romeo of Cape May, NJ; mother, Patricia Brown of Port Richey, FL; grandchildren, Emma Van Sickle and Michael Romeo as well as friends that are far too numerous to mention. PAULINE ROSS
Pauline Ross “Polly” Age 79, of Wilmington, DE, formerly from Winterthur Farms, passed away on Thursday, June, 11, 2009. Pauline was the daughter of the late Rose (Budd) and Charles G. Ross. A graduate of Alexis I. duPont High School, she worked at Keil’s, Inc. for many years, then Delaware Trust, and eventually retiring from Meridan Bank. A devoted family member, she loved to travel in her earlier years and enjoyed watching late night TV. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her half brother, Elmer Ross. Pauline is survived by her brother, Charles A. Ross with whom she lived; brothers, Carl H. Ross and wife Pat of Newark, Ronald L. Ross of Newark, and sister, Doris E. Synic of Middletown. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and her cat, Boo Boo. At Pauline’s request services will be private. EDWARD ROTHFUSS
Edward William Rothfuss, Jr. went home to be with his Lord April 1, 2009. He was 94 years old. Ed was born in Manhattan, NY, but raised in Livingston, NJ. He was a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army Engineering Corps and served in the South Pacific. He received a Bachelor’s degree from Utah State and his Master’s in Civil Engineering from Princeton. He began working at DuPont in Seaford, Delaware moving to the Louviers site until his retirement in 1978. He enjoyed his summer home in Bethany Beach. He was an avid gardener and loved to travel, ski, hike...anything outdoors. He was a member of Evangelical Presbyterian Church. In 1973 he met and married Margaret Boyes Clayton. Margaret passed away in 2004. Ed is survived by two daughters, Barbara Lamminan and her husband Forrest, of Chicago, IL, and their daughter Kirstin Osgood of IL, and Margaret Jenkins and her husband, David, of Wilmington and their children Richard, Mathew and Ashley Sabo; son, Dr. J. Wesley Clayton and his wife, Maggie, of Newark and their children, Sarah Coakley, Rachel Nimon and Laura, great grandson, Elijah Nimon; and cousins, Miss Christine Herman and Mrs. Jane Burgess. Special thanks to the staff of Stonegates and Delaware Hospice who made his last weeks so pleasant. IRWIN ROWE
Irwin R. Rowe, age 75, died at his home Thursday, December 25, 2008. Born to the late Mary and Irwin S. Rowe, Irwin served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked as a self-employed barber for over 45 years, and retired from Astra Zeneca. In his spare time Irwin enjoyed hunting and crabbing. He was a member of the American Legion as well as Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Rowe; 2 sons, Robert Rowe, and Brent Rowe and his wife Michelle; 2 sisters, Jeanne Shultz and Linda Oliver and her husband Robert; grandson, Jack Rowe; and many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 12 p.m. at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, 525 Polly Drummond Hill Rd., Newark, DE 19711. GARY RUSSNAK
Gary Dean Russnak Age 49, of Newark, DE, passed away on April 29, 2009. Gary was a truck driver for Bear Concrete. He was an avid fisherman, enjoying bass fishing and crabbing. He was preceded in death by his father, Steve Russnak. Gary is survived by his daughter, Stacie Colazzo and her husband Joseph, his companion of 20 years, Evelyn Verucci, his mother, Ethel Russnak, his former wife, Margaret Jensen, his sister, Helen Edwards, his brothers, Robert, John, Steven and Marvin and his grandchildren, Damian, Dylan and Lyric. RITA SAHLIT
Rita Sahlit Age 91, of Wilmington, DE passed away on July 18, 2009. She was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA to the late Frank and Helen Ritz. Rita attended Temple University and was a buyer for Strawbridge and Clothier in Philadelphia. She was a member of the Junior Board of Riverside Hospital for over 19 years. She was also a member of the Federation of Women’s Clubs in Claymont for twenty-five years and held several offices during this time. She was President of the Pennsylvania National Osteopathic Guild Association and Vice-President of Beta Sigma Phi. Rita was an active volunteer for Meals on Wheels, The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Cub Scouts. She played organ and sang with the coral group, Grace Notes for many years. She loved music, oil painting, ceramics and coin collecting. Besides her parents, Rita was predeceased by her siblings, Edward Ritz, Frank Ritz, Helen Davis, Joseph Ritz, Gerald Ritz, John Ritz and Harry Ritz. She is survived by her husband, Norman Sahlit of Wilmington; her brother’s, Charles Ritz and his wife Gertrude of Middle River, MD and Ernest Ritz and his wife Joan of Ewing, NJ. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. A service will be held on Wednesday July, 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Sheppard,1530 Foulk Rd., Wilmington where friends may call after 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Sheppard.

ELIZABETH SAWYER
Elizabeth Mae Sawyer Age 93, of Newark, DE, passed away on September 15, 2009 at Parkview Nursing Center. Elizabeth was the last survivor of 9 siblings. She was married in 1932 to Quint Sawyer who predeceased her. She enjoyed traveling and ceramics and was a care giver to her many siblings. Elizabeth was also preceded in death by her son, Lloyd L. Sawyer in 1977. She is survived by her sons, William and his wife Jeane, Raymond and his wife Deanna and Philip and his wife Marie with whom she lived until moving to Parkview Nursing Center in 2005. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rhonda, Buddy, Lloyd, Bill, Raymond, Carolyn, Rosie, Phil Jr., Ann and Lisa, 17 great grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren. ANNA SCANLON
Anna Harriett Scanlon, age 92, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2008 at Heartland hospice after a short illness. Anna was born on June 17, 1916 in Philadelphia, PA to the late William and Anna (Snavely) Seifert. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Scanlon was preceded in death in 1962 by her loving husband, Martin K. Scanlon, her son, whom she lost in July, Dr. Martin W. Scanlon, D.D.S., her brothers Joseph, William and Richard; sisters, Sister Mary Rosalind, Gertrude Bliss and Ethel Guarro. A homemaker all of her life, Mrs. Scanlon is survived by her daughter Patricia Klotz and her husband Benno of MN, and her son Joseph Scanlon and his wife Diane of Wilmington. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Sara Scanlon; grandchildren, Martin Jr., Matthew, Jennifer, Elizabeth, Kathryn, Benno Jr., Sean and Ryan; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Kinsley, Joseph, Vivian, Frank, Delaney and Will. A memorial Mass will be held on Monday, December 8, 2008 at 1 p.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Roman Catholic Church, 809 S. Broom St., Wilmington, DE 19805. Interment will be private. LENA ROSE SCARPITTI
Lena Rose Scarpitti Age 87 of Claymont, DE was taken to heaven on Thursday February 26, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. Lena was born in Wilmington to the late Rosario and Anna Maciai Guerieri. Lena was a lifetime caregiver. She was an active parishioner of Holy Rosary Church for over 60 years, participating in the Sanctuary Society and Choir among other activities. Lee will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 63 years Alfred J, her 5 children, Alfred(Sally) and Christine Paladino both of Middletown, DE, Robert (Joyce Wilcox), Gerald and Donna Dougherty (Thomas) and sister, Elizabeth Daller(John) all of Wilmington, DE . She was a loving and devoted grandmother to Beth, John (Rachel), Dana (Paul), Katie, Lauren, Jimmy, Meredith, Justin, Anthony and Rosemary and also to her great grandchildren, Heather, Gia, Paige, Isabella. DAVID SCERBA
David R. Scerba Age 50, of Wilmington, DE, passed away suddenly on August 29, 2009. David was born in Uniontown, PA to the late Angela (Pala) Scerba and Emil Scerba. He was a graduate of Penn State University. Then he moved to Wilmington, DE to help his mother in the family business, Pala’s Café. Later he received a law degree from the Widener School of Law. David was a partner in the law firm of Ciconte, Wasserman and Scerba. He was a practicing attorney for 20 years specializing in workman’s compensation. David was a devoted husband and father. He cherished the time he spent with his family as much as we will cherish the memories of him. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family at the beach. His family meant everything to him and everything David did was for them. He called his daughter his little angels now he is their angle. David will always be in our hearts and we will draw from his spirit the strength, wisdom, and knowledge which he gave us in his lifetime. He will be forever missed but never forgotten. David is survived by his loving wife Andrea ( Ciconte) Scerba: his beautiful daughters, Alivia and Ava: in laws, Edward and Diane Ciconte; sister-in-law, Michele Alivernini and her husband Mike; sister-in-law, Jaclyn Ciconte; niece Madalyn and nephew, Parker, sister-in-law Janet Scerba: niece Emily and nephew Jeffrey. He was predeceased by his parents, Angela ( Pala) and Emil Scerba and his brother, Ernest Scerba. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony’s R.C. Church, 901 N. DuPont Street, Wilm., DE 19805 where a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating David’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m.
