Richard D. Ingram,
skilled carpenter
Richard D. Ingram, 85, of Lewes, went to heaven on Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, after a long illness at home.
Richard was born in Slaughter Neck on March 23, 1922, to the late Benjamin Ingram and Minnie Ingram Dick.
Richard was a skilled carpenter in the Lewes-Rehoboth area for more than 50 years and retired from the former Selbyville Manufacturing Co. of Rehoboth. He also operated a saw and knife sharpening business for many years.
He was an avid gardener and fisherman as well as a loyal Baltimore Orioles fan. Richard was a lifelong bachelor and was preceded in passing by a brother, Leon “Pineapple” Ingram; a sister, Frances Mae Clifton and her husband Sgt. 1st Class Edward “Specks” Clifton; and a nephew, Lloyd N. Clifton.
He is survived by his nephew, Edward Clifton Jr. of Lewes; three nieces, Michelle Clifton of Berlin, Md., Marci Clifton of Lewes, and Karen Clifton of Amarillo, Texas; and a grandniece, Layla Mae Clifton of Lewes.
Services will be private.

Mary F. Baird,
Hercules retiree
Mary F. Baird, 80, of Newark, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, in the Christiana Hospital.
Mrs. Baird was an executive secretary for the Hercules Company, retiring in 1989 after 45 years of service. She was a member of the Hercules Country Club. She was an avid artist. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and bird watching. She loved the beach.
She is survived by her loving husband, Walter J. Baird; her brother, William Ferguson of Wilmington; her sisters, Catherine Howell of Lewes and Grace Hayman of Bellefonte; and severContinued from page 81

Joshua Brittingham Sr.,
retired engineer
Joshua Elisha Brittingham Sr., 73, of Milton made his transition to eternal rest and peace on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Son of the late Elder Jacob Sr. and Virginia Brittingham, he was born Aug. 15, 1934, in Berlin, Md.
Joshua received his elementary education at Richard Allen, Georgetown, Coolspring, Belltown and Milton, 196-C.
He attended ninth grade at Benjamin Banneker, Milford, and William C. Jason, Georgetown, for 10th grade.
Joshua persevered and received his GED diploma on Feb. 25, 1976.
He was a photography member of WPA.
Joshua was a member of the International Operating Engineer Union 542.
On June 9, 2002, he received a diploma in Biblical theology from Jameson School of Ministry.
Joshua was awarded membership to the National Geographic Society on Jan. 1, 2003.
He was employed by the George Lynch Construction Co., Milford.
He also worked for the Danilla Co. and International Union Co., Norristown, Pa., where he was a member of the Operating Engineers Union until his retirement in 1999.
Joshua was a faithful and dedicated member of Mount Zion Holy Church, where he served as a junior class Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent from 1970-2001 and pastor aide treasurer.
He was a member of the Milton Harmonizers, Senior, Mass and Radio Broadcast Choirs and of the Delaware State Choir and the Mid Atlantic District Choir.
Joshua served as a publication photographer for Mount Sinai Holy Church of America.
On Oct. 25, 1958, he was united in holy matrimony to Irene Thompson.
To this union they were blessed with eight children.
Joshua was a loving and devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend.
He had a friendly personality and was loved by all.
Joshua was always willing to lend a helping hand without looking for anything in return. He was outgoing and easy to make friends with.
He was a man of many talents. Joshua enjoyed playing the accordion, guitar and piano. His favorite interest was taking photographs of people and nature.
He leaves to lovingly cherish their memories his devoted wife of 49 years, Irene Brittingham; eight children, Joyce Brittingham-Lewis of Dover, Joshua Brittingham Jr. and his wife Holly of North Attleboro, Mass., Veronica Brittingham of Milton, Bonita Marshall and her husband Emory of Newark, Teresa Miller and her husband Henry of Millsboro, Irene Sybrena Yette and her husband Bryan of Kenosha, Wis., Craig Brittingham and his wife Jessica of Milwaukee, Wis. and Aretha Ayers and her husband David of Bridgeville; 17 grandchildren, Brittany, Lewis, Madison, Macy, Chad, Eric, Ava and Elijah Brittingham, LaMyra and Emory Jr. Marshall, Stephen, Stefan and Jayson Miller, Janelle Harmon, Justin Yette and Tyler and Joslin Kane; two great-grandchildren, Alana Evans and Chad Brittingham Jr.; two brothers, Presiding Elder Granville Brittingham and Minister James Brittingham, both of Milton; three sisters, Evangelist Viola Bratten of Millsboro, Esther Knapp and Bishop Grace Ruth Batten, both of Milton; his mother-in-law, Cassie Thompson; his sister and brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services were held in Mt. Zion Holy Church, Milton, with burial in Henlopen Memorial Park.

William H. Murray,
business manager
William H. “Mason” Murray, 61, of Chesapeake City, Md., passed away at his home Nov. 30, 2007.
Mr. Murray was born on Sept. 24, 1946, the son of the Late Albert R. and Helen R. Murray. He was a business manager in the auto sales industry for many years. Mason enjoyed golf, traveling and life.
He was preceded in death by his brother Ronald Murray.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Denise “Nisi” Murray of Chesapeake City; his son Brendon M. Murray of Lewes; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., Chesapeake City, Md., with burial private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Northern Chesapeake Hospice Foundation or the St. Jude’s Children’s hospital c/o the funeral home.
George D. Thrift,
Federal Express retiree
George Donald Thrift, 69, of Millsboro, formerly of Snow Hill, Md. and Glen Burnie, Md., passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Friday, Nov. 30, 2007 at his home.
Mr. Thrift was born in Baltimore, Md. December 30, 1937, son of the late George Newbill Thrift and Hilda Delores Ridgeway Thrift. George moved from Glen Burnie to Snow Hill in 1986. He then retired in 1995 from Federal Express.
Before, George and his wife moved to Millsboro this past summer they were fortunate enough to travel across the country in their RV for the last three years. George was an avid World War II military collector and stamp collector. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and playing Texas Hold ‘Em Poker. George was a past Mason and a member of the Mensa Society.
Mr. Thrift is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Margaret Mary Buckley Thrift; two sons, George Gary Thrift of Phoenix, Az. and James Clayton Thrift of Millersville, Md.; two daughters, Donna Lynn Thrift of Glen Burnie, Md. and Linda Dawn Royal of Bivalve, Md.; a stepson, Adam M. Snyder of Selbyville; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A celebration of George’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Atlantic Sands Hotel, Baltimore Avenue and the Boardwalk, Rehoboth Beach, where luncheon will follow.

Dorothy Mae Marvel,
retired nurse
Dorothy Mae Marvel, 91, of Millsboro, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. She was born in Ocean View to the late George and Deborah Fenton Littleton.
Mrs. Marvel graduated from Lord Baltimore High School and Milford School of Nursing, and she enjoyed a long career as a registered nurse. She spent most of her career working at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md., and later she worked at Beebe Hospital in Lewes. She moved to Millsboro after her retirement to be near her family. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Millsboro, and the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her son, George Wayne Scorah and his wife Nancy B. Scorah; two grandsons and their wives, Todd and Mary Scorah and Chad and Lorette Scorah; one great-grandson, Jordan Scorah; one great-stepgranddaughter, Heather Jackson and her daughter Alexis; two sisters, Lula Webb and Elva Elliott; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Marvel; one brother, Joshua Littleton; and four sisters, Florence Borleske, Eva McCabe, Elsie Godwin and Marguerite Moore.
Services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior.
Pastor James Ellwanger and Dona Rayne, lay leader and director of disciples, will officiate.
Interment will be in Mariner’s Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery, Ocean View.

Leon Taylor,
retired poultry worker
Leon Taylor, 78, of Millsboro, died Nov. 28, 2007, at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford. He was the son of the late Will and Annie Taylor of Painter, Va., and the husband of the late Annie Mae Taylor, who passed away Sept. 5, 1993.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon Taylor and James Taylor; one sister, Mary Taylor; and two nephews, Robert Lee Taylor and Junior Lee Taylor.
Leon was most known by all who called him “Uncle Lee.” He was everyone’s uncle. He was a very happy and caring person and full of joy. He always had a smile and loved to talk.
He worked for many years at H&H Poultry in Selbyville, and in later years he worked as a senior companion until he could no longer work.
He attended the Pentecostal Holiness Prayer Room in Millsboro. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing and dining with his friend Blanch at Bonanza. He enjoyed singing and making his own music, and he was a very spiritual person and that was the life he lived.
He leaves behind one son, Russell Lee Garrison and wife Joyce; one granddaughter, Debbie Garrison-Felton; one grandson, Cornelius Felton, who he loved dearly; and a very special niece, who was his caregiver, Lois A. Handy, all of Frankford. He is also survived by nieces Lucinda Taylor of Frankford, Ernestine Dixon of Millsboro, Lillian Taylor of Long Branch, N.J., and Marie Taylor of Selbyville; nephews James Taylor of Asbury Park N.J., and Alexander Taylor of Oxon, Md; and sisters Martha Sample of Exmore, Va., and Mary Sample of Smyrna.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call one hour prior. Donald W. Sharp will officiate.
