Jeffrey A. Yingling,
auto industry salesman
Jeffrey A. Yingling, 52, of Littlestown, Pa., died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at home.
Mr. Yingling was born Nov. 2, 1952 in Gettysburg, Pa., the son of Dolores Myers Yingling and the late Kenneth Stewart Yingling.
He was a graduate of Westminster High School, class of 1970, and received a bachelor of science degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1974, where he played football, was a member of the Theta Xi fraternity and was active on the alumni council.
For more than 30 years he worked in the automobile industry, where he received several sales achievement awards.
He was a member of Westminster United Methodist Church.
He was a fan of the Colts, Ravens and Orioles and was a baseball card collector.
He is survived by his mother; Martha Ellison, mother of Elizabeth Yingling Thiombiano and Aimee Yingling Ciszek; sons-in-law Chryzo Thiombiano and John Ciszek; brothers Mark and Randy Yingling; sisters Sherry Reese and Melissa Stone and their spouses James Reese and Stephen Stone, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 23, at the Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday.

Carl Francis Webb,
Milford contractor
Carl Francis Webb, 89, of Milford, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford.
Mr. Webb was born April 26, 1915 in Ellendale, son of the late George F. and Mary Carpenter Webb.
He owned and operated a contracting business in Milford for several years. One of his many accomplishments was Webb Manor, a private home development named for him. After retiring from the business in 1965, he became a bridge tender for the state of Delaware for 17 years, retiring in 1982. He also owned and operated Webb’s Marine in Cedar Beach, which is now owned by one of his sons.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda B. Webb, in 2000.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Francis “Buddy” and Kathleen Webb of Cedar Beach, Richard C. and Donna Webb and Timothy D. and Jean Webb, all of Milford; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dorothy Coverdale and Louis Papp of Lewes and Betty Lou and Bill Davis of Lincoln; a brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Pauline Webb of Milford; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 23, at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, where friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Milford Community cemetery , Milford.

Mattie H. Powell,
owned grocery store
Mattie H. Powell, 99, of rural Frankford, died at her home on Friday, Nov. 19, 2004.
Mrs. Powell was a homemaker and also owned and operated Powell’s Grocery Store at Pepper’s Corner outside the town of Frankford for 38 years. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Ella Wharton Gray. Mattie was a member of St. George’s United Methodist Church at Clarksville and a member of Frankford Chapter No. 12 Order of the Eastern Star since 1947.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Elmer J. Powell in 1981, and her son, Charles, in 1964.
She is survived by her son, Donald A. Powell and his wife, Paula; two grandsons and their wives, Rex T. Powell and wife, Suzette, and James R. Powell and his wife, Judy; a granddaughter, Andrea Harrison; five great grandchildren, Bethany Powell, J.R. and Jodie Powell, Trevor and Tucker Harrison; and her caregiver, Wade Brasure.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 23, from the Frankford chapel of Melson Funeral Services, where friends may call after 1 p.m.. and where Order of the Eastern Star services will be held. Burial will be in the Mariner’s Bethel cemetery

Virginia Sweeny Gibson,
enjoyed golfing
Virginia H. Sweeny Gibson, 88, of Lewes, died Monday, Nov. 15, 2004, at Lewes Convalescent Center, Lewes.
Mrs. Gibson was born in Wilmington to William and Mary Watkins Sweeney. She settled in Media, Pa. where she lived with her husband and family for 40 years. She moved to Lewes seven years ago, spending the first three years with her daughter and the last four years in the nursing home.
She was a woman who devoted her life to her home and family. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross for four years. She was an avid golfer, and also enjoyed bowling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norris Gibson, who died in 1984.
She is survived by a son, Norris Charles Gibson of Galena, Md.; a daughter, Susan Jenkins of Lewes; two sisters, Betty Newman of Wilmington and Jane McLaughlin of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a granddaughter, Amy Rzepka, whom Mrs. Gibson helped raise; and a great-granddaughter.
Services were held at the Ward Funeral Home, Linwood, Pa., with burial in Lawn Craft cemetery , Linwood.
Thelma Street Draine,
owned service station
Thelma Meredith Street Draine, 81, of Millsboro, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, surrounded by her family, at home.
Mrs. Draine was born Aug. 12, 1923, in Millsboro, daughter of the late Harry and Mary Thompson Street.
She had spent her entire life in Millsboro. She and her husband, Richard Draine, owned and operated Richard’s Pure Service Station on Route 5 in Harbeson for more than 24 years. She closed the station after the death of her husband.
Mrs. Draine was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Millsboro and the Nanticoke Indian Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Draine, in 1982.
She is survived by a son, William Draine of Millsboro; a brother, Clinton Street of Millsboro; a niece, Linda Johnson of Las Angeles; and many cousins and friends.Services were held in the Indian Mission United Methodist Church.
Veryl C. Hewitt,
retired from USAF
Veryl C. Hewitt, 82, of Rehoboth Beach, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at home.
Mr. Hewitt was born May 15, 1922 in Galesburg, Ill., the son of Richard and Lucille Johnson Hewitt. He received his education in the Oneida area and graduated from high school there in 1940. His marriage to Geraldine M. “Jerry” McConnell took place on July 7, 1942 in Edgefield County, S.C. She died August 28, 1995.
Mr. Hewitt served in the U.S. Air Force for 25 years retiring as a major in 1965. During his career, he and his family were stationed in Turkey and Thailand as well as several states in the U.S. After retiring from the military, the couple lived in Phoenix, Ariz., Champaign-Urbana, Ill., and Vienna, Va. They moved to Dunedin, Fla. in 1990. After the passing of his wife, Mr. Hewitt moved to Delaware in 1999 to be closer to his family
Following his retirement, Mr. Hewitt worked for the University of Illinois in Urbana. He received an associate degree form Parkland College. After retiring from the U of I, he worked for Rollins and later worked for SPC while living in Vienna. During his leisure time, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed horse racing. Mr. Hewitt was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a life member of the Masons.
Mr. Hewitt was loved by all those who knew him. He had a wonderful sense of humor and the family enjoyed his “Daddyisms” and the stories over the years. He had an incredible memory of people and events. He raised four loving daughters who were his constant companions along with his sons-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He is survived by four loving daughters and sons-in-law, Veryla Lee and Millard Alexander, Bethesda, Md, Lynn H. and Haywood Stocks, Rehoboth Beach, Debra A. and Frank Cockrell, Vienna, Va., and Mary H. and Robert Dudley, Moscow, Russia; 10 grandchildren and spouses, William H. III and Linda Halker, Alyssa E. and Clay Bartel, Stephanie A. and Stephan Miller, John C. and Monica Bankus, Andrew K. and Dawna Bankus, Nathan L. Stocks, Matthew F. Cockrell, Michael A. Cockrell, Chase H. Dudley, and Laura H. Dudley. He enjoyed his 11 adoring great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Roberta Drescher and Marian DeBackere, both of Cambridge, and a brother-in-law, Marvin McConnell of Florida. His Graveside services with military honors were held at Rosedale cemetery , Cambridge.

Lucy O. Muzzillo, 77, of Rehoboth Beach, and formerly of Ramsey, N. J., died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Lewes.
Mrs. Muzzillo was born in Patterson , N.J. She had been employed as a shipping clerk for an electronics manufacturing company and served as a volunteer at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
She was the daughter of the late Anthony Cutillo and the late Adeline Zicarelli.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jerry Muzzillo; three daughters, Joan C. (Muzzillo) Popick of Easton, Md.; Geraldine M. Betka of Hainesport, N.J. and Diane M. McGough of Point Cianna, Fla.; two sons, Steven Muzzillo of Pequannock, N.J. and Mark Muzzillo of Wylie, Texas; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date, with interment in Maryrest cemetery , Mahway, N.J.

George Martin Mayer,

George Martin Mayer, 80, of Millsboro, passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2004, at home.
Born in Philadelphia, Pa. and formerly of East Greenville, Pa., Mr. Mayer had lived in Sussex County for about 20 years. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by Firestone Tire & Rubber Company as an instrument repair foreman. He also had been a marine weather forecaster with the University of Delaware in Lewes. He was a four-year veteran of the U.S. Air Corps. He was a member and Past Master of Perkiomen Lodge # 595 in PA. He enjoyed fishing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Marie Seiler Mayer in 1977, and a son, Joseph Mayer.
Mr. Mayer is survived by a son, Kenneth M. Mayer and his wife Marilynn of Green Lane, Pa.; a sister, Freda Wood of W. Daytona Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services will be private.

Earsell Margaret Price, 87, of Kennett Square, Pa., died Saturday, Nov. 20, 2004, in Chester County Hospital, West Chester, Pa.
Her husband, Fred E. Price, died in 1992. Earsell enjoyed gardening and canning.
She is survived by two sons, Earl J. Price and his wife Venetta of Rehoboth Beach, and Gary E. Price and his wife Rose, of Nottingham, Pa.; a daughter, Mavis Posey, wife of the late Richard J. Posey, of Wilmington; a brother, Olin Price of Smithport, N.C.: a sister, Louise Johnson of Landenberg, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three daughters, Frances Price, Peggy Price and Shirley Ann Price.
Viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 24, at Kuzo & Gofus Funeral Home, 250 West State St., Kennett Square, followed immediately by a funeral service. Burial will be in Longwood cemetery , Kennett Pike.

John A/Johnson, 56, of Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach, died Friday, Nov. 18, 2004, at home.
Mr. Johnson had been employed as a construction site supervisor, most recently with Deilshamer Construction Co. He served in the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army. His hobbies include time at his beach house and traveling.
He is survived by his partner, Scott A. Mills; and John’s children, Ryan, Brad and Bethany Johnson. He is also survived by his mother, Anna Johnson; his sister, Helen Rowe of Mantua, N.J.; a brother, Paul Johnson of Blackwood, N.J.; the mother of his children, Bonnie L. Bergen; his godchild, Gabrielle; nieces; nephews and friends.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 23, and 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 24, at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 24. Burial will be in Eglington cemetery , Kings Highway, Clarksboro, N.J.

Richard G. Piunti Jr., 50, of Newark, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004.
Richard worked as a furniture salesman and refinisher for many hears with Eagle Furniture, Falcon Furniture, Nanticoke Homes and Carolina Discount Furniture.
He is survived by his daughter and her husband, Victoria Piunti-MacPherson and James MacPherson; his sons, Richard G. Piunti III, Ryan Piunti and Dominic Piunit, and his grandchildren, all of Rocky Mount, Va.; his stepmother, Barbara Piunti of Newark; his aunt, Madalyn P. Humphrey and her husband Fritz, of Wilmington; his brothers and sisters, Christopher Piunti of Wilmington, Kasi Piunti of Elkton, Md., and Michael Piunti of Aston, Pa.; his stepbrother, Brian LaCair of Bear; his stepsisters, Sandy Mergenthaler of Ambler, Pa., Cindy Grouz of Newark and Lori Hurst of Newark; his sister-in-law, Robin Piunti of Lewes; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Piunti.

George Peter Conklin,
avid fisherman
George Peter Conklin, 60, of Lewes, passed away Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, in Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Born in New York City, Mr. Conklin worked in an auto mechanic business in New Jersey for many years before becoming a customer service representative for M&T Bank, formerly All First Bank, for five years in Millsboro. He was an avid fisherman. For the last 14 years, he fought a courageous battle after a scooter accident left him a quadraplegic.
He is survived by his wife, Alicia M. Evans Conklin; his mother, Gertrude Martin Conklin of Florida; sons Christopher William Conklin and wife Lisa of Bridgewater, N.J., and Kevin Michael Conklin and wife Laurie Ann of Tatamy, Pa.; brothers Peter Conklin of Union Beach, N.J. and Joseph Conklin of Westminster, Md.; a sister, Elizabeth Matzinger of Florida; and four grandchildren, Cassidy, Evan, Isabelle and Megan. He was preceded in death by his father, George F. Conklin.
