Eleanor Harman Connell,
Ocean City Lioness
Eleanor Harman Connell, 78, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, surrounded by her family at her home in Ocean City, Md.
Born in Greensboro, Md., she was the daughter of Delphin J. Harman and Elma Harman Overfield.
Mrs. Connell was a member of the Ocean City Lioness Club and Atlantic United Methodist Church, and a volunteer for the Opportunity Shop.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 58 years, Norman R. Connell; a daughter, Linda Sue Greenfield and her husband Douglas of Manhasset, N.Y.; a son, Jeffrey N. Connell of Ocean Pines; and a sister, Doris Walls Rowlinson and her husband Ed of Dover and Lewes. Mrs. Connell was the adored “Grammy” of Leah, Megan, Paige and Erin.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 12, at Atlantic United Methodist Church in Ocean City. The Rev. George Godfrey will officiate.

Marjorie Elizabeth B. Ricks,
former daycare teacher
Marjorie Elizabeth Miller Burton Ricks, 76, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of Lewes, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007, in Hospice of Valley Coronado Home, Phoenix.
Mrs. Ricks was born Feb. 14, 1931, in Lewes, to the late William A. and Sarah Hester Morris Miller.
She attended Belltown School and Richard Allen School in Georgetown, and then went on to graduate from Delaware State College High School for Colored Students, now Delaware State University.
Mrs. Ricks met and married Curtis Franklin Burton of Belltown, who predeceased her in 1969.
During the 1950s and 1960s she worked at Beebe Hospital as a nurse’s aide, and also at the Rehoboth Day Care Center in Rehoboth Beach as a head teacher.
During the operation of the Lewes naval facility, Mrs. Ricks met and married Horace Wesley Ricks and moved to Phoenix, making it her new home.
She was preceded in death by two children, Regina D. Burton and Maurice F. Burton.
Mrs. Ricks is survived by her husband of 35 years, H. Wesley Ricks of Phoenix; two sons, Ronald S. Burton and his wife Joan of Port Penn, Del., and Curtis E. Burton and his wife Lacretia of Phoenix; three daughters, Felonise E. Norwood and her husband Gemez of Millsboro, Juanita Morris-Gettings and her husband Norman of Phoenix, and Terrene M. Burton of Phoenix; 11 grandchildren; one brother, William “Dickie II” and Helen Miller of Lewes; and one sister, Mary Miller Paschal of Tempe, Ariz.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at St. John’s 2nd Baptist Church, Mount Joy Road, Millsboro, where friends may call two hours prior to the service.

Carol Johnson
enjoyed cooking
Carol Johnson, 60, of Millsboro, was called home to the Lord, Tuesday Oct. 9, 2007, surrounded by her loving family in her home after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Nov. 8, 1946, in Wilmington, and was preceded in death by her mother and father, Betty Ruane and John Quinn; and her grandson Seth.
Mrs. Johnson was a very family-oriented woman who enjoyed cooking, reading and playing the slots. Mrs. Johnson was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW 5447 in Holly Oak, and the AMVETS Post #2 in Millsboro.
Carol will be dearly missed by her husband of 36 years, Harry D. Johnson; daughters, Julie Jacobs and her husband Jay of Newark, Christine Fox of Millsboro and Debbie Johnson of Millsboro; a son, Harry D. Johnson Jr., of Millsboro; a sister, Patricia and her husband Raymond E. Collas of Millsboro; an aunt, Mary Wood and her husband Erik of Smyrna; 10 grandchildren, Billy, Codi, Tracey, Stacey, Raymond, Devon, Jay, Dillon, Brendon and Harry III; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Rd.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to American Cancer Society, Sussex County Unit, PO Box 163, Salisbury, MD 21805.
Cornelius V. Cadmus III,
auto mechanic
Cornelius V. “Neil” Cadmus III, 40, of Georgetown, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at Bay Health, Kent General Hospital, Dover.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Brennon Cadmus, in 2005.
He was an auto mechanic by trade and was a good one at that. Cornelius attended Easter Seals and Calvary Baptist Church in Georgetown. Before moving to Delaware he served as an ambulance driver in East Windsor, Conn., and was very proud of his service. He loved spending time with his nieces and nephew. He was a good guy and was well liked. He would give you his shirt off his back.
He is survived by his father, Cornelius V. Cadmus Jr. of Georgetown; his sisters, Donna Franklin and husband Bill of Dagsboro, and Beth Eagle and husband Robert of Georgetown; three nieces and two great-nieces and one nephew.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington St., Millsboro, where friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12. The Rev. Richard Blades from Calvary Baptist Church in Georgetown will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Millsboro.

Thomas C. Goldhahn,
retired roofer
Thomas C. Goldhahn, 70, of Milton, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, in Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford.
Thomas moved to Delaware in 1988 from Folsom, Pa. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Milford. He loved fishing and his golden retriever Ginger. He was a retired roofer with Russell Myers Construction Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas L. and Marie Stinger Goldhahn; and his stepmother, Helen Goldhahn.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Margaret “Peggy” Goldhahn; his son, Thomas C. Goldhahn II of Milton, his stepson, Joseph Daniels of Florida; his stepdaughther, Teresa Steltzer of Newark; his stepsisters, Helen Camponile, Joanne Goldhahn and Betty Larkin; his sister-in-law, Christine Cahill of Chadds Ford, Pa.; his cousin, Charles Kowchuk of Wilmington; and six grandchildren, Jennifer, Stephanie, Stacie, Meghan, Ryan and Bryan.
Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

Travis W. Catts,
Cape High graduate
Travis W. Catts, 25, died Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident while serving at U.S. Air Station Borinquen in Puerto Rico.
He was a machinist’s mate second class in the U.S. Coast Guard.
He was born June 7, 1982, in Kodiak, Alaska, to a Coast Guard family.
After living in various states and the Caribbean while growing up, Travis graduated from Cape Henlopen High School in 2000.
In December 2000, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and began basic training in Cape May, N.J.
Travis’s first assignment placed him on a newly commissioned cutter, the USCGC Gannett, of which he is listed as an original plank owner.
He served at various other stations including Yorktown, Va.; Charleston, S.C.; and in an undisclosed area in the Mediterranean in the early stages of the Iraq war.
He loved to surf, skate, snowboard and camp. His most recent passion was rock climbing.
He is survived by his parents, John and Jacqueline Catts; and sisters, Christine and Nicole, all of West Palm Beach, Fla.
His cremated remains will be scattered at sea on Saturday, Oct. 13, aboard the USCGC Gannett. A memorial service, to be announced at a later date, will be held in Lewes.

Edith Lowther Cullin,
former Ford employee
Edith Lowther Cullin, 84, of Chester, Pa., died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2007, at Crozer Chester Medical Center in Upland, Pa.
She was born in Chester, Pa., the daughter of the late John and Rose A. Lowther. Edith lived the majority of her life in Chester, moving to Media, Pa., for about 10 years. She graduated from Chester High School and was employed at Ford Motor Co. during World War II.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Cullin Jr., in 1983; a son, John E. Cullin III, in 1971; and a brother, William Lowther.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 12, at the Bateman Funeral Home, 4220 Edgmont Ave., Brookhaven, Pa., where friends may call one hour earlier. Interment will be in Media cemetery.
Flowers are welcome, and the family suggest donations be made in Edith’s name to the Delaware County SPCA, 555 Sandy Bank Road, Media, PA 19063.
Jerry Allen Lannom,
S.G. Hayes truck driver
Jerry Allen Lannom, 68, of Lewes, formerly of Steger and Glenwood, Ill., passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born Nov. 15, 1938, in Springfield, Ohio, son of the late Glenn and Mary Allen Lannom.
Mr. Lannom drove a truck for S.G. Hayes for more than 40 years. He was a member of Teamsters Local 150, Chicago, Ill.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Donna Miller Lannom; three daughters, Darci Lynn Lannom of Lewes, Kelly Macfarlane of Steger, Ill., and Patricia Kamradt and her husband Bob of Elgin, Ill.; two sons, Jerry Jr. and Jack Lannom, both of Steger; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; his mother- and father-in-law, Gloria and Robert Miller of Milton; his brother-in-law, Ken Miller and his wife Anna of Georgetown and their daughters, Stephanie and Sarah; one brother, Joe Lannom and his wife Nancy and their two children of Indiana; and his three best friends, Sal Fichera, Dan Kortan and Ron Shoup.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 20, at the family residence. Interment will be private.

Eric E. Richards Jr.,
Milford High student
Eric Eugene Richards Jr., 17, of Milford, departed this life to be with the Lord Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007.
He was born Aug. 29, 1990, in Milford.
Eric obtained his education through the Milford School District.
In his early school years, Eric attended Evelyn Morris Elementary School, Lincoln, later going to Benjamin Banneker and Milford Middle School.
Upon his death, he was in attendance at Milford High School where he was a part of the graduating class of 2008.
Eric had many loves, one of which was the Lord. He also loved the color blue, playing basketball, listening to music and making others laugh.
Eric had a mild and meek spirit, but was a hard worker, doing whatever he was asked to do.
He attended and was a member of Emmanuel Pentecostal Church of God, Camden.
Eric leaves behind to cherish his memories his mother, Pattie S. Hinton of Ellendale; his father, Eric E. Richards Sr. of Milton; a sister, Erica L. Hinton of Ellendale; a brother, Chad E. Hinton and wife Shervaun of Marietta, Ga.; a niece, Aniya M. Dunning of Milton; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends; and one special cousin, DeVaughn M. Bynum of Newark.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 7, with interment in the Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church cemetery, Ellendale.
