Attix, Mary Masten

MARY ELIZABETH MASTEN ATTIX, age 99, pass away on Sunday, November 26, 2000, in Westminister nursing Home, Dover, Del. Mrs. Attix was born February 13, 1901, in Cheswold, Delaware the daughter of the late William and Anna Boyd Masten. She helped her husband on the farm in Cheswold for over 50 years. Mrs. Attix was one of the oldest lifetime charter members of the Cheswold Vol. Fire Co... Ladies Auxiliary. Was a lifetime member of the Cheswold United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Cheswold and Leipsic Homemaker Club. A member of WSCS, and the 20th Century Club in Smyrna, Del. Mrs. Attix donated her time to many community services groups. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling, cooking, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grand children and her great great grand children. She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl S. Attix in 1984, their 63rd wedding anniversary, two brothers, Boyd Masten, and Paul Masten, one grandson, and four great-grand children. She is survived by her sons and their wife's; William and Ellen Attix of Dover, Del. Gilbert and Janet Attix, Donald E. and Gloria Atttix, and Robert and Carol Attix all of Cheswold, Delaware. Her daughter and their husbands; Isabel R. and Walter Jarman of Cheswold, Del, Emily M. and Jessie Woodall of Harrington, Del. Thelma L. and Wayne Pryor, Clara M. Gravatt both of Dover, Del. and Mary J. and Wright Pratt of Cheswold, Del. A sister; Anna Louise Moore of Dover, Del. 35 grandchildren, 63 great grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren. Friends may call on Thursday, Nov. 30, from 7-9pm in the Trader Funeral Home, 12 lotus St., Dover, Del. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1pm in the funeral. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Dover, Del. In lieu of flowers the family suggest donation be give to the Cheswold United Methodist Church or Cheswold Vol. Fire Co. Ladies Auxilaiary, Cheswold, Del.

Bages, Dorothy A.

DOROTHY A. (HANSEN) BAGES, of Dover, died Tuesday, February 27, 2001 at home. She was 82.

Mrs. Bages was born June 30, 1918 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Clarence and Mae (Ryan) Hansen.

She worked as an Administrative Assistant for Crane, Niles, Baxt, & Reich, M.D.’s, PA; in Florida until her retirement in 1980.

She enjoyed taking long walks around Dover, and loved meeting and talking to the people she met on her walks. She also enjoyed going to Silver Lake to feed the ducks.

She was a member of the Wyoming United Methodist Church, Wyoming.

She was the widow of Francis X. Bages.

She is survived by a son: Brian J. Bages of Dover; two daughters: Marcia Motley of Dover, Carol Mahler of Miami, Florida; 3 grandchildren: Erin C. and Douglas A. Motley, and Ashley E. Bages all of Dover.

Memorial services will be held 5:00 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2001 in the Wyoming United Methodist Church, 112 Broad Street, Wyoming. Arrangements are being handled by Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover. Letters of condolences may be made to www.delmarvaobits.com/torbert.

Bailey, Pauline H.

Pauline H. Bailey of Smyrna, Delaware, died in Christiana Hospital, Tuesday December 5, 2000. She was 78. Mrs. Bailey was born June 11, 1922 in Warwick, Maryland, the daughter of the late James and Mary Clayton Hill. She worked as a dietician at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna for several years before retirement. She was a life member of the Townsend Fire Company’s Ladies Auxillary and enjoyed playing bingo, the slots and traveling. Her husband, J. Wilson Bailey died in 1981. She is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, James W. Jr. and Linda Bailey and David C. and Pamela Bailey all of Townsend, Delaware. 5 Grandchildren, Crissi Angle, Suzi Hunt, David Bailey Jr., Nicole and Melanie Bailey. 5 Great Grandchildren. She was the guardian of Martin and Linda Taylor. Services will be Monday December 11, 2000 at 11AM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware, where friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9PM. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery Smyrna, Delaware.

Bakley, Edward Paul

FELTON -- Eward Paul Bakley, 88, of Felton, died Wednesday, January 3, 2001, in his home. He was born on April 15, 1912, in Livingston, New Jersey, son of the late Josephine Stephans and Edward Bakley. He was an Army veteran of World War II, receiving the rank of Staff Sergeant and was a member of the American Legion for 36 years Mr. Bakley was a self-employed carpenter, retiring at the age of 70. He was an avid sportsman and especially enjoyed fishing and hunting. Mr. Bakley is survived by his wife Edna Bakley of 44 years, two sons, Robert Bakley of Dover and Clifford Bakley of New Jersey, three daughters, Pamela Bakley of Albuquerque, NM, Arlene Gevaza of New Jersey and Kathy Wasserbach of New Jersey, and eight grandchildren. Committal services will be 1:00 p.m. today (Friday) in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Chapel, Millsboro. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Tri State Bird Rescue and Research, 110 Possum Hollow Road, Newark, DE 19711. Barnes, Lida Marie

Lida Marie Barnes of Smyrna, Delaware, formerly of Harrington, Delaware, died Sunday February 25, 2001 in IHS of Delaware Nursing Home, Smyrna, Delaware. She was 81. Mrs. Barnes was born April 6, 1919 in Sandtown, Delaware, the daughter of the late Issac D. and Mable Meredith Harper. She was a homemaker who enjoyed going to church and the Harrington Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kendall Barnes and a sister, Elizabeth Barnes. She is survived by a brother, Meredith J. Harper of New Castle, Delaware; An aunt, Margaret Meredith of Lewes, Delaware; 4 nieces, Beverly Joyce Taylor of New Castle, Delaware; Jacqualine E. Sturgis of Bear, Delaware; Patricia Hadley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Edith Whitesill of Wilmington, Delaware and several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Services will be Thursday March 1, 2001 at 2PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware, where friends may call 1 hour before services. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery Smyrna, Delaware. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.

Bartlett, Leona S.

Leona S. Bartlett Age 77, of Dover, DE, formerly of Conowingo, MD and Oxford, PA, died February 6, 2001 in the Kent General Hospital, Dover, DE. Mrs. Bartlett was a homemaker. She was a member of the Porters Grove Baptist Church, Conowingo, MD. Mrs. Bartlett is preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Lee Bartlett, Sr. who died in 1986, a daughter, Shirley Cowell and 2 brothers Dale and Bobby Sluder. She is survived by her sons, H. Lee Bartlett, Jr. of Smyrna, DE, Jerry Bartlett I of Dover, DE, a daughter, Phyllis Absher of Port Deposit, MD, a brother Forrest Sluder of Mt. City, TN, 3 sisters, Murrel Cox of Wilmington, DE, Viola Bordeau of Virginia Beach, VA and Bernice Barlow of Hartley, DE, 13 grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Service will be held 11am, Saturday, February 10, 2001 at the Porters Grove Baptist Church, 475 Connelly Road, Conowingo, MD. Visitation will be 7-9pm, Friday, February 8, 2001 at the R.T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Assoc. both in c/o R.T. Bauer, Joshua F.

Joshua F. Bauer of Smyrna, Delaware, died at home Friday February 23, 2001. He was 16. Joshua was born June 20, 1984 in Wilmington, Delaware, the son of Lawrence E. Shoun of Bear, Delaware and Elizabeth Gorman of Smyrna, Delaware. Joshua enjoyed skateboarding, music, art, drawing, computers, playing strategy games, and had recently talked of starting a band with his friends. He was enrolled in the James H. Groves School of Adult Continuing Education. He loved animals and was well known for his sense of humor. In addition to his mother and father, he is survived by his Dad, Charles E. Gorman with whom he lived; a sister, Charlene W.E. Gorman at home; a step-sister, Stacey Lynn Kinsey of New Castle, Delaware; his grandfather, Harry “Sonny” F. Bauer Jr. of Bear, Delaware; his grandmother, Edna May Gorman at home; his grandparents, Joyce and Charles E. Gorman Sr. of Dover, Delaware; his grandmother, Eva May Shoun of Bear, Delaware and his great grandparents, Anthony and Katherine Labricioscia of Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Friends may call Thursday March 1, 2001 from 7 to 9PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware. Services and burial will be private.

Baynard, Irene Belle

Irene Belle Baynard Stanley died at her home near Federalsburg on Thursday, December 21, 2000 at the age of 71. She was born at Greenwood, DE on April 27, 1929 the daughter of the late Norman and Clara Fisher Baynard. Her husband, William Stanley also preceded her in death. During her life she worked for several years for the former Phillips Packing Company in Cambridge and later worked for a canning company in Hickman processing tomatoes. She is survived by two brothers, Albert Lee Baynard of Federalsburg and John Baynard of Grasonville and two sister-in-laws and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Paul and George Baynard and a sister, Edna Brummell preceded her in death. Funeral services for her will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2000 at Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg with the Rev. Vanessa Stephens Lee, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul Cemetery on Beauchamp Road at Concord. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and also on Wednesday from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m..

Beaver, Jesse A.

Jesse A. Beaver, 86, of Salisbury, died Thursday, November 9, 2000 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Born in Columbia County, PA, he was the son of the late, Raymond K. Beaver and Elsie May Fetterman Beaver.

Mr. Beaver was a ministerial servant in the East Salisbury Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He worked for 25 years at Phoenix Steel in Claymont, DE until retirement in 1975. He then moved from Chester, PA to Salisbury where he became associated with his son in the family business for several years.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen C. Beaver of Salisbury; a son and daughter-in-law, James R. & Loraine R. Beaver of Salisbury; a daughter and son-in-law, Judith A. & Robert N. Thompson of Cochranville, PA; five grandchildren: Robert Godwin and his wife, Wendy Godwin, Kevin Godwin, James Derrick Beaver and his wife, Nicola Beaver, Jesse Eric Beaver and his wife Beth Beaver all of Salisbury and Heather Thompson of Parkesburg, PA; eight great-grandchildren: Dustin Godwin, John Jesse Godwin, Kelly Nichole Godwin, Megan Alicia Godwin, Jesse James Beaver, Nicolas Joseph Beaver, Autumn Jade Beaver, and Tyler Eric Beaver all of Salisbury; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2000 at 3:00 PM. At the Parker Road Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Bell, William

William Bell, 84, of Hockessin, died at his residence on Tuesday, February 13, 2001.

Mr. Bell retired in 1981 as a technical service manager from the Dupont Company where he worked for 35 years. He was a World War II veteran of the British Army and served in Dunkirk, Tobruk, and El Alamein.

He is survived by his wife, Miriam Joan (Dickinson) Bell; four sons, David of Saratoga, WY, Douglas of Geneva, Switzerland, Robert of Laconia, NH, and Scott of Wayne, PA.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, February 16 at 10:00 am at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 2800 Duncan Road, Wilmington, where friends may call after 9:30 am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society, 920 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720.

CLARICE E. BENNETT

Age 76 of Wyoming, DE, died Thursday, February 1, 2001 at home.

Mrs. Bennett worked for Playtex in Quality Control for 43 years retiring in 1986. Clarice took great pride in gardening and loved flowers.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Everett W. Bennett, three sons; Richard W. Bennett of Harrington, DE, Thomas E. Bennett of Hartly, DE and Wendell E. Bennett of Wyoming, DE, one daughter, Jean Sanderlin of Manteo, NC, one brother, Melvin Richards of Wyoming, DE, four sisters; Marie Green and Doris Donovan, both of Milford, DE, Eileen Jones of Frederica, DE and Joyce Whaley of Easton, MD, 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Sunday evening February 4, 2001 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, DE. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 5, 2001 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover, DE.

Betts, Brandon Tyler

Brandon Tyler Betts, 6, of Delmar, died Tuesday, November 21, 2000 at home of Cockayne Syndrome, a rare genetic syndrome.

Born in Jacksonville, NC, he was the son of William R. and Tanya A. Betts of Delmar, MD.

Brandon attended Pinehurst Elementary School.

In addition to his parents he is survived by a sister, Alexis Betts of Delmar; grandparents: Dick and Debbie Ennis of Quantico, MD and Terry and Shirley Pellegrin of Salisbury; great-grandparents: Mr. & Mrs. Richard Ennis Sr. of Quantico, Mr. & Mrs. Calvin Johnson Sr. of Marion, MD and Mr. Rowley Mears of Crisfield; four aunts: Jody Noonan, Brenda Shane, Nicole Bozman and Barbara Morgan; two uncles: Dwayne and Greg Pellegrin; and several special cousins; and his special little puppy “Autumn.”

A funeral service will be held Friday, November 24, 2000 at 1:00 P.M. at Faith Baptist Church on Dagsboro Rd., in Salisbury. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Robert Reinert will officiate. Interment will be in Parsons Cemetery in Salisbury.

Brandon has touched many with his love and the story of his life and the family requests contributions be made to Share and Care Cockayne Syndrome Network, P.O. Box 552, Stanleytown, VA 24168.
