Brakeall, Thomas G.

Thomas G. Brakeall, 86, of Rising Sun, MD died Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at Sunbridge Care Center in Elkton, MD. Mr. Brakeall was born on August 30, 1914 in Fulton Co., PA. He was the owner/operator of Brakeall's Sunoco Gas Station from 1952 to 1985. He was a member of many sporting associations and various sportsman's clubs. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and boater. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie W. Brakeall of Rising Sun; 2 sons, Thomas E. Brakeall of Hawthorne Woods, IL and John Brakeall of Chadds Ford, PA; 2 daughters, Alice Van Pelt of Seattle, WA and Jane Kuehn of Rockville, MD; 3 brothers, Charles Brakeall of Cumberland, MD, Donald Brakeall and Ben Brakeall, both of Wiley Ford, WV; 1 sister, Susan Davis of Martinsburg, WV; 8 grandsons and 5 great granddaughters. Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday March 24, 2001 at R. T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be in Brookview Cemetery, Rising Sun, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Rising Sun Volunteer Fire Company c/o the funeral home.

Braun, Anne E. Frame

Age 52, of New Castle, DE, died at her residence, January 23, 2001. Mrs. Braun graduated from the University of Delaware in 1970 with B.S. in Nursing and then received her Masters from Widener University in Burn & Trauma Nursing. She went on to practice nursing for over 25 years in various hospitals in the local Tri-State Area. Mrs. Braun was also a member of and very active in numerous Nursing Associations. Mrs. Braun is survived by her daughter, Kelly E. Braun, of Bear, DE, her parents, William and Madeleine Frame of Newark, 3 brothers, Ralph S. Frame of Rising Sun, MD, John K. Frame of Denver, CO and Wayne P. Frame of Scottsdale, AZ, one sister, Karen Greenway of North East, MD and her grandson, Songhai Braun Sawyer of Bear, DE. A Memorial Service will be held 2pm, Saturday, January 27, 2001 at the ROBERT T. JONES & FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the University of Delaware for Scholarships Fund In Nursing, in Memory of Anne E. Brewer, Dorothy

Dorothy Brewer, 74, of Rising Sun, MD, died Thursday, March 8, 2001 at home. Mrs. Brewer was born on January 16, 1927 in Lynch, Kentucky. She is survived by 2 sons, Rodney S. Brewer and Richard Jesse Brewer, both of Rising Sun; 1 daughter, Judy Carol Morton of Rising Sun; 3 sisters, Shirley Long of Elizabethton, TN, Myrtle Goble of Wilmington, DE, and Joanne Shutt of Crisfield, MD; 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse W. Brewer, who passed away in 1988. Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday March 10, 2001 at R. T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be in Rosebank Cemetery, Rising Sun, MD. Edwin E. Brown, Sr.

Age 80 of Limestone Acres passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 7, 2001. Mr. Brown was a processing engineer for Hercules, retiring in 1980 after 41 years of service. He was a US Army veteran of WWII and a life member of the Millcreek Fire Company. He is survived by his wife, Virginia L. Brown; sons, Edwin E. Brown, Jr. of Elkton, MD, Ralph S. Brown of West Chester, PA daughter Jean Toy of Newark; 3 Grandchildren, Edwinn, III, Michael Toy, Jr., and Andrew Toy; and 1 Great Grandson. Broyles, Thelma R.

THELMA R. BROYLES Age 72 of Charles Street, Milford, DE, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at her home. Mrs. Broyles began her working career as a switchboard operator for the Pennsylvania Railroad in Harrington, DE. After moving to Milford, she was employed as Secretary for Wilbert Vault Company retiring in 1995 after 30 years service. Thelma then took a job as clerk with the Medicine Shoppe in Milford until her recent illness. She is survived by her husband, Edgar Broyles, a son, Jimmy E. Broyles of Milford, two daughters; Debbie Broyles of Lincoln, DE and Chris Austin of Milford, DE and three grandchildren; Amy Culver and her husband Chad of Milton, DE, Brian Broyles of Newark, DE and Dustin Broyles of Chestertown, MD. A Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 10, 2001 at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford, DE. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, DE. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to your favorite charity.

Bryk, Patricia J.

Patricia J. Bryk, 66, of Smyrna, died on Sunday January 7 at her home. Her family was by her side. She was born in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of the late Dr. Elmer B. Casey and the late Theresa J. Casey. She attended Visitation Academy and graduated as an R.N. from St. John’s School of Nursing, both of St. Louis. Mrs. Bryk moved to Delaware in 1963 and had worked as a student health nurse at Delaware State University, and as an industrial health nurse at General Foods, Dover for a number of years. She was a member of St. Polycarp Parish in Smyrna, where she served as cantor for many years and was a member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Major Stanley L. Bryk, USAF, Ret., at home; 3 sons, Paul Bryk, of Newark; Steven Bryk, of Newtown, Pa.; and Eric Bryk, of Cumming, Ga.; 2 daughters, Jeanne Tanner, of Tucker, Ga.; and Rene Bookoff, of Phoenix, Md.; and 7 grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11:00 AM Friday January 12 at St. Polycarp Catholic Church, Ransom Lane and South St., Smyrna. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6:30 – 9:00 PM at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna. Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Newark. Budd, Marguerite R.

Marguerite R. Budd, 85, of Smyrna, died on Friday December 22 at Silver Lake Nursing Center, Dover. She was born in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Sam and Rose Rutter. Mrs. Budd and her late husband Elmer, lived and farmed in the Townsend area for many years. They moved to Smyrna in 1970. Mr. Budd died in 1979. She worked as a dietary aide for the Delaware Hospital for the Chron. Ill, Smyrna, for about 15 years, retiring in 1975. Mrs. Budd enjoyed being a homemaker and singing for her family and church. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her step-son, Elmer Budd Jr. She is survived by a son, Robert F. Budd, of Smyrna; a step-son, Francis Budd, of Smyrna; and 2 step-grandchildren. Services will be held 12:00 PM Tuesday December 26 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 11:00 AM. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Smyrna. Arrangements were by Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, Smyrna.

Bundick, Asa T
Salisbury - A.T.Bundick, 56, of Salisbury died on Friday, February 2, 2001 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Nelsonia, Virginia on September 23, 1944 he was the son of the late Charles Eldon Bundick and Helen Brittingham Bundick. Mr. Bundick was employed as Regional Sales Manager for Tri-State Electric in Salisbury for more than 28 years. He was a member and former president of Green Hill Yacht and Country Club, a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 654, and B.P.O.E. # 817 in Salisbury. He is survived by his wife, Prudy Bundick of Salisbury, a son and daughter in law, Brent and Stephanie Bundick of Dallas, Texas, a granddaughter, Georgia Camil Bundick, a sister, Jacquie Hunter of Lenexa, Kansas, a mother-in-law Louise LaNeve of Salisbury, four step children, George Hendrix and his wife Anne of Coral Springs, FL, Tina Rubino of Poughkeepsie, NY, Frank Fiorelli and his fiance’ Wendy Morris of Salisbury, and Michael Fiorelli and his wife Michelle of Wahiawa, Hawaii, five step grandchildren, Justin Rubino, Jason Hendrix, Michael Hendrix, Sarah Fiorelli, and Jacob Morris, and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at the Bounds Funeral Home on E. Main St. in Salisbury. The Rev. Sam McWilliams will officiate. Interment will follow in Parsons Cemetery in Salisbury. Friends and family may call at Bounds Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6-9 P.M. Burris, Florence R.T.

Florence R.T. Burris, age 94, of Clayton, Delaware, died Saturday January 20, 2001. She was born in rural Kent County, Delaware, to the late Robert and Rhoda May Tribbitt. She worked at the Elkton Powder Plant during World War II until it closed and retired from Playtex in Dover after 26 years of service. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Clarence E. Burris Sr. in 1982, her daughter Frances B. Shetzler in 1992 and her great grandson, Jes Shetzler in 1998. She is survived by her son, Clarence E. “Dick” Burris of Clayton; her daughter, Rachel B. Lane Shaw of Smyrna, 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Services and burial will be private.

Burrows, Lucille R.

Lucille Ratledge Burrows of Smyrna, Delaware, died at home Monday February 20, 2001. She was 83. Mrs. Burrows was born September 23, 1917 in Little Creek, Delaware, the daughter of the late James and Kathryn Coty Ratledge. She was a homemaker who enjoyed working on the family farm and feeding her ducks. Her husband, Benjamin D. Burrows died in 1998. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Services will be Saturday February 24, 2001 at 12 noon in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware, where friends may call 1 hour before the services. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery Dover, Delaware.

Caldwell, Marrietta P.

Marrietta P. Caldwell of Smyrna, Delaware, died in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital, Saturday November 18, 2000. She was 87. Mrs. Caldwell was born January 1, 1913 in Henderson, Maryland, the daughter of the late Carroll O. and Anna Blanche Kelley Pippin. Mrs. Caldwell worked for Richard and Robbins Company of Dover, Delaware and later for the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill in Smyrna before retiring in 1982. She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill and a member of Camden Moose Chapter #1546. She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Caldwell Sr. and a son, John E. Caldwell Jr. She is survived by 1 son, Carroll “Pop” D. Caldwell of Smyrna, Delaware. 4 daughters, Eleanor C. Moore, Anna Caldwell and Marie Salter all of Smyrna, Delaware; Etta Mae Oehler of Sunman, Indiana; 1 step-sister, Esther Bell Stubbs of Harrington, Delaware. 8 Grandchildren 16 Great Grandchildren 1 Great Great Granddaughter. Services will be Tuesday November 21, 2000 at 12noon in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware, where friends may call 1 hour before services. Burial will be in Templeville Cemetery, Templeville, Maryland. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Ewell’s St. Paul United Methodist Church, PO Box 266, Clayton, DE 19938. Callahan, Lawrence Melvin

Parsonsburg, MD: Lawrence Melvin “Skip” Callahan, 74, of Parsonsburg and formerly of Alexandria, VA died on Sunday January 14, 2001 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Alexandria, VA on August 21, 1926 he was the son of the late Revel Franklin Callahan and Margaret Vance Robey Callahan. Mr. Callahan was employed as a computer specialist for the Federal Government associated with the National Guard in the Department of Defense. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a member and past master of the Alexandria Washington Masonic lodge #22 AF & AM, and Kena Temple. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Katherine Auman Callahan of Parsonsburg, a son, William R. Callahan and his wife, Patricia of Houston, Texas, a daughter, Karen C. King and her husband, John of Boston Massachusetts, six grandchildren, Kelly Callahan, Jason Callahan, Bonnie Callahan, Matthew Callahan, Robin Callahan, and Lauren King, a brother, Jack Callahan of Huntsville, Alabama, a sister, Marjorie Quick of Fredericksburg, VA, and several nieces and nephews. Three sisters, Ruth E. Winfield, Madeline Bowles and Evelyn Paine preceded him in death. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Salisbury where friends and family may call from 1:30-2:00 P.M. in the church parlor. The Rev. Dr. David C. Tontonoz will officiate. A funeral service and Masonic service will be held on Friday at 2:00 P.M. at the Everly-Wheatley Funeral Home in Alexandria, VA.where friends may call from 12:00 – 2:00 P.M. Interment will follow in Presbyterian Cemetery in Alexandria. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Callahan to the Shriner’s Hospital For Children, 3551 N. Broad, Philadelphia, PA, 19140. The staff of Bounds Funeral Home in Salisbury is handling the arrangements.

Cantwell, Arthur B.

Arthur B. Cantwell, Jr., 86,of Laurel, formerly of Salisbury, died Tuesday, November 7, 2000 at the home of his daughter. Born in Princess Anne, MD, he was the son of the late Arthur B. Cantwell Sr. and Willie Dryden Cantwell. His wife, Bessie A. Cantwell died July 11, 1999.

Mr. Cantwell was a member of the First Baptist Church in Delmar and the Salisbury Moose Lodge. He retired from Delmarva Power & Light Co in 1976 after 37 years of service. He also worked part-time for 7 years with Sweetheart Bakery. He is survived by four children: Arthur “Burt” Cantwell III of Dothan, AL, Sandra C. Cugler of Laurel, DE, Harry E. Cantwell of Lansing, MI, and John E. Cantwell of St. Paul, MN; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one nephew. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary E. Davis.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 11, 2000 at 11:00 AM at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Barry Devine will officiate. Interment will be in Parsons Cemetery in Salisbury.

Contributions may be made in his memory to Delaware Hospice, 600 DuPont Highway, Suite 107, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Cardwell, Julia Ann

Julia Ann Cardwell of Clayton died Monday, March 12, 2002 at home. She was 59.

Mrs. Cardwell was born in Philadelphia to Catherine G. Kay Fife and the late Lawrence Fife.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Cardwell is survived by her husband of 40 years, Lawrence Cardwell of Clayton; her mother, Catherine Fife of Clayton; two sons, Kevin Cardwell and his wife Colleen of Clearwater, FL and Kerry Cardwell and his finance` Shelly Wolansky of Bear.

Funeral Services will be held 11AM Friday, March 16, 2001 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd., Dover. Burial will be private.

Carmean, Roger (Kip)

Roger “Kip” Carmean of Dover, Delaware, died at home Saturday January 20, 2001. He was 35. Kip was born June 1, 1965 in Lewes, Delaware, the son of Roger E. Carmean of Milford, Delaware and Linda Gulyas Hall of Bowers, Delaware. Kip worked as a baker for the Donut Connection in Milford, Delaware, until his illness in May of 1999. He is survived by his wife Colleen McCartney Carmean, his 4 cats; his bother and his spouse, Keith-Allin and Michael Dohrn of Harrington, Delaware; 1 sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Tony Legates of Milford, Delaware; 1 niece, Brook Amber Legates of Milford, Delaware; his step-mother, Frances Dee Carmean of Milford, Delaware; his mother-in-law, Olga McCartney of Felton, Delaware; 1 sister-in-law, Karen Rice and her husband, Duane Rice of Dover, Delaware; 2 brothers-in-law, John T. McCartney and his wife and son, Lorrie and Taylor of Felton, Delaware; Michael P. McCartney and his wife, Joyce of Hartly, Delaware; and his step mother-in-law, Pauline McCartney of Dover, Delaware. He was loved by many other friends and family. Services will be Wednesday January 24, 2001 at 12noon in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware, where friends may call 2 hours before services. Burial will be private.

Carpenter, George D.

George D. Carpenter, 84, Kenton Road, Dover, passed away Sunday February 11, 2001 at KGH Bay Health Dover.

He was born on December 09, 1916 in Mexico, NY.

Mr. Carpenter was a truck driver in the area for many years. Mr. Carpenter was a W W I I United States Marine Corps Veteran with service in the south pacific. He is preeced in death by his Ex- wife Dorothy Carptner..

He is survived by Son, Frederic C. Carptner of Virgina Beach, VA. Stepson, James Miller of Magnolia, DE. Stepson, Ross Miller of Englewood, FL. Stepson, Gene Miller of Ft. Worth, TX. Daughter, Karen Carptner of , SC. Daughter, Dawn Blount of Adams, NY. 14 Grandchildren, 18 Great Grandchildren.
