Joan R. Courtney, 58, Boss Brown Lane, Camden/Wyoming, passed away Wednesday March 21, 2001 at KGH Bay Health Dover Dover.

He was born on October 31, 1942 in Dover,DE to Francis "Boss" and Dorothy Iona (Bryant) Brown.

Mrs. Courtney is with the State of Delaware at DMV in the driver improvement Dept. for 26 years. She also drove a school bus for Dawson's Bus service for 9 years. She was a Caesar Rodney High School graduated of 1960. She is preceed in death by her father, Francis " Boss" Brown..

He is survived by her Husband of 40 years, Wesley "Jack" Courtney of Camden/Wyoming, DE. Son, Bruce Wayne Courtney of San Diego, CA. Daughter, Terri Jo Courtney-Sandstrom of Camden/Wyoming, DE., Grand Children, Daniel Austin, Courtney Jo, Wesley Alan, Brandon Wayne Sister, Roxie Twilley of Camden/Wyoming, DE. Sister, Ruby Twilley of Camden/Wyoming, DE.

Remembrance Services will be held Sat. 03/24/2001 01:00 PM at Trader Funeral Home in Dover, DE . Burial will be at the Sharon Hill Memorial Park Dover, DE.

Friends may also call Sat. 03/24/2001 11:00 AM to 01:00 PM at the Trader Funeral Home in Dover.

The family request that memorial contributions be given to Kent General Foundation c/o KGH Bayhealth Dover South State Dover, DE.

Cox, John Thomas

John Thomas Cox of Dover died Thursday, March 22, 2001 in Kent General Hospital, Dover after a short illness. He was 74.

Mr. Cox was born on November 12, 1926 in Kent County, Maryland to the late John T. and Frances Parker Cox.

He was a self-employed painter and had worked for many years at Bailey’s Texaco Station in Dover.

Mr. Cox had served his country in the U.S. Army for two years.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, and crabbing. He was loved by all and will be sadly missed.

Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his wife Helen Cecil Cox of Dover on May 1, 1995 and a daughter Darlene Helen William of Utah on July 14, 1995.

He is survived by three sons, Thomas “Butch” Cox of Camden, Joseph Allen Cox of Dover, and John T. Cox, Jr. of Dover; a sister, Rachel Westbrook of Greenville, N.C., 12 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held 12 Noon Monday, March 26, 2001 in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the American Lung Association of Delaware, 1021 Gilpin Ave., Suite 202, Wilmington, DE 19806.

Creighton, Shirley Anne

Parsonsburg: Shirley Anne Creighton, 57, of Parsonsburg died on Thursday February 1, 2001 at her home. Born in Salisbury on April 24, 1943, she was the daughter of Ruth E. Bailey of Parsonsburg and the late Elwood C. Bailey. She was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Emerson Creighton, Jr. who died in March of 1999. Mrs. Creighton graduated from Wicomico High School in 1961 and from the Peninsula General Hospital School of Nursing in 1964. She was currently employed as a Registered Nurse stationed on two-south at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. She had been employed with P.R.M.C. for over thirty-six years. She was a life long member of Zion United Methodist Church in Salisbury. In addition to her mother, Shirley is survived by a daughter, Jamie L. Gilmore and her husband Larry of Hebron, two special grandsons, Travis and Hunter, a brother Gregg Bailey and his wife Terry of Salisbury, and their children, Brooks Bailey, Laurie Pearce and her husband Jason, and Kaitlin Bailey, a sister, Lorraine Conaway and her husband Bob of Parsonsburg, and their children, Scott Conaway and his wife Jill and their children, Miranda and Tyler, and Shelly Conaway, and a beloved Dobie “Crickett”. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2:00 P.M. at the Bounds Funeral Home on E. Main St. in Salisbury where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Robert W. Miller and the Rev. Ike F. Ledger will officiate. Interment will follow in Melson’s Cemetery near Delmar. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Creighton to Zion United Methodist Church Building Fund, C/O Becky Pierce, 6824 Mt. Vernon Ave., Salisbury, MD 21804.

Cresto, Jr., Frank A.

Frank A. Cresto, Jr., 74, of Murray Manor, died at his residence on Friday, February 16, 2001.

Mr. Cresto was a lifelong member of Local 542 Operating Engineers, retiring in 1985 after 35 years of service. A Marine Corps veteran, Mr. Cresto earned a Purple Heart in World War II after becoming wounded on Okinawa. He was a member of the VFW 2863-Richardson Park and the Disabled American Veterans, and a former member of St. Matthew’s Church. His daughter, Christine Montgomery, predeceased him in 1974.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Irene T. (Kowlewski) Cresto; four sons, Joseph W. of Bear, Richard P. of Middletown, John F. and Victor D., both of Newark; a daughter, Frances M. Reilly of Middletown; two sisters, Josephine Cresto and Annie Meloni, both of Wilmington; a brother, Henry of Wilmington; a sister-in-law, Shirley Cresto of Wilmington; and 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 20 at 10:00 am at St. Matthew’s Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Woodcrest. Friends and family are invited to call on Tuesday morning between 8:30 am and 9:30 am at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Little Sisters of the Poor, c/o Jeanne Jugan Residence, 185 Salem Church Road, Newark, DE 19713.

CHESTER J. CZERNIK

Age 87 of Meadow Brook Lane, Milford, DE, died Thursday, March 29, 2001 at Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford, DE.

Mr. Czernik started his career as a trooper with the Pennsylvania State Police in 1935. After leaving the police force in 1940, he took a position as paper maker with Patterson Paper Parchment in Philadelphia and then with the Scott Paper Company, also in the Philadelphia area, whom he was employed by for 15 years before his retirement in 1979. Formerly of Yardley, Pennsylvania, he and his family moved to Milford 13 years ago. Until his illness, he enjoyed the title of greeter for 6 years at the Milford Walmart.

Mr. Czernik was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Milford, the Frederica Adult Center and the AARP.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Bertha S. Czernik and a daughter, Joanne Czernik of Laurel, DE.

A Prayer Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2001 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, DE, where friends may greet the family one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place Tuesday, April 3, 2001 in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Morrisville, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Frederica Adult Center, P.O. Box 165, Frederica, DE, 19946.

David, Ruth C.

Ruth C. David Age 78, of Newark, DE died Sunday, February 25, 2001 at the Laurelwood Care Center in Elkton, MD. Mrs. David retired after being employed for over 21 years with the food service department at the University of Delaware. She is survived by her son, John Mitchell of Kelton, PA; 2 daughters, Joyce Christian of Fayetville, NC and Pamela Blansfield of Nottingham, PA; 1 brother, James Lane of Cheswold, DE; 3 sisters, Vivian Moffit of Kenton, DE, Virgie Alexander of Kenton, DE, and Alberta Allen of Elkton, MD, 2 grandchildren, Richard and Laura and 4 great grandchildren. Service will be held at 1pm, Thursday, March 1, 2001 at the ROBERT T. JONES & FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE where family and friends may call from 7-9pm on February 28, 2001. Burial will be in the Mill Creek Friends Cemetery in Newark, DE.

Davidson, Mabel Virginia

DOVER -- Mabel Virginia Davidson, of Dover, died Saturday, January 27, 2001 in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 76. She was born in White Sulfur Spring, WV on April 5, 1924, daughter of the late Frank Caldwell and Nellie Feury Caldwell. Mrs. Davidson worked for Leed Services in Smyrna retiring in 1976 to become a homemaker. She was a member of the Modern Maturity Center, Dover and attended the New Beginning Church of God. Mrs. Davidson enjoyed doll collecting. She is survived by her husband of 37 years William H. Davidson, two sons Gerald Lee Caldwell of Dover, William Davidson, Jr. of Albany, NY, two daughters Dianna Carrington of Green Cove Springs, FL and Buffie Mincsner of Hilliard, FL, a sister Beulah M. Caldwell of Magnolia, a nephew James D. Jones of White Plains, MD, seven grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden-Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming, where friends may call this (Monday) evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to New Beginning Church of God 334 Mahan Corner Road, Marydel, DE 19964 or to First United Church of Gospel, 1420 McKee Road, Dover, DE 19904. Davis, Leonard Charles

Leonard Charles Davis, born September 6, 1947, died November 6, 2000 of natural causes at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland.

Lenny’s hobbies were fishing and antique shopping. He had a million dollar smile which we will all miss. He was a carpet technician for Chaillet-Nichols, Inc. and will be greatly missed there.

Surviving is his girlfriend, Judy Gorman, one son, W. Lee Davis of North Carolina; two sisters and three brothers.

A gathering will be held at 214 Mallard Lakes on Saturday, November 18, 2000 at 1:00 PM.

Dayton, Richard A.

Daxton A. Richard, 57, Pearson Corner Road, Hartly, passed away Sunday December 10, 2000 at K.G.H. BAY HEALTH DOVER, DE Dover.

He was born on October 14, 1943 in Copiague, NY to Richard and Jane (Bodley) Dayton.

He was Formally from NY and moved to Hartly in 1984. He was a auto mechanic and drove a bus for many years..

He is survived by wife of 27 years, Marie Dayton of Hartly, DE. SON, William Kraft of , NY. SON, Joseph Kraft of DOVER, DE. SON, John Dayton of , MO. DAUGHTER, Melissa Dayton of Hartly, DE. BROTHER, Robert Dayton of DOVER, DE. Sister in Law, Nancy Bianco of Hartly, DE., 3 Grand Children .

A Celebration of Life Service Mass will be held Tuesday 12/12/2000 02:00 PM at IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CATHLIC CHURCH in MARYDEL, MD with Father CHRIS officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
