Mr. Dean loved to go fishing with his grandsons and also spending time talking with his friends over coffee at Hardees. Mr. Dean will be remembered as a loving and caring husband and father who always put his family’s needs before his own.

Elisabeth M. Dekoning, 87, Hazelville Road, Hartly, passed away Monday February 26, 2001 at KGH Bay Health Dover Dover.
She was born on March 05, 1913 in Lisse, Holland to Arend and Maria (Vanginhoven) Schravendeel.
She was a seamstress in Holland then moving to the United States where she counted. She was a member of What Coat United Methodist Church in Camden, DE She enjoyed Porcelain Dolls, traveling and she was very artistic. She is preced in death by her husband Pieter DeKoning.
She is survived by Son and his wife, Arend C. and Betty DeKoning of Hudsonville, MI. Son and his wife, Cornelis J. "Casey" and Helga DeKoning of Laurel, DE. Daughter and her husband, Janna W. and Richard Ennis of Smyrna, DE. Sister, Marie Luth of Glen Rock, NJ. 12 Grandchildren, and 22 Great Grandchildren .

Delano, Mark "Bob"
Mark "Bob" Delano of East New Market died at Dorchester General Hospital on Friday, December 9, 2000. He was 69. He was born in Manhattan, NY on February 6, 1931 the son of the late William Dyer and Laura E. Shockley Delano. He has been a truck driver for the last 40 years and had last worked for Chesapeake Carriers through H & M of Hurlock and Federalsburg. He served in the United States Air Force for 13 ½ years. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret Dominick Delano whom he married on April 1, 1946 and seven children, Valerie Mahlbacher of Clayton, DE, Mickey Delano, Sr. and R. Mark Delano of Federalsburg, MD, M. Andy Delano, Sr. and Robin Brooks of East New Market, Terry Williamson of Williamsburg, MD and Randy H. Delano of Seaford, DE. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a brother, Tommy Shockley of Harrington, DE, three sisters, Betty Johns of Columbia, SC, Virginia Shockley of South Carolina and Florence Reeser of Nebraska and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Carvil O. Shockley and a sister, Patsy Clark preceded him in death. Funeral services for him will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2000 at Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg, MD. Merrill John Dickerson, age 38, of Rising Sun, MD, died Friday February 9, 2001 at his home. Mr. Dickerson was born on January 10, 1963 in Wauseon, OH, the son of the late John W. Dickerson, Jr. and Gretchen Dickerson. He was a mechanic at Advantage Dodge Auto Dealership in Elkton, MD. He loved the outdoors. He is survived by a wife, Deborah L. Dickerson of Rising Sun; 2 daughters, Ashley R. Dickerson and Brooke A. Mrs. Dietz was a homemaker. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Milford and the AARP.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Francis P. Dietz, 2 sons; Richard F. Dietz of Locustgrove, VA and Robert F. Dietz of Felton, DE, a daughter, Carole Schmidt of Monroe, CT, a brother, David Evans of Naperville, IL and 7 grandchildren.

Dobraniecki, Sophie J.
Sophie Dobraniecki, age 78, of Wilmington, died at Christiana Hospital on Tuesday, January 16, 2001.
Mrs. Dobraniecki’s hobbies included playing bingo, listening to Polish music, and taking trips to Atlantic City with her friends. Her husband, Stephen P. Dobraniecki, died in 1985. She is survived by her sons, Stephen of Hockessin and David of Wilmington; her daughter, Denise Daly of Newark; her three sisters, Bernadette Nai, Dolores Schoonmaker and Elizabeth Czerski and her brother, Francis Czerski, all of Wilmington; five grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and one great grandson.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 19 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Roads, Wilmington. Dolby, Jeanette Reed
Jeanette C. Reed Dolby of Hurlock, Maryland died on Wednesday, November 22, 2000 at home. She was 89. She was born on September 18, 1911 in Bridgeville, Delaware, the daughter of the late Victor Reed and Martha Dahlis Reed.
She worked at the former Excelsior Pearl Works in Federalsburg and was also a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, James "Billy" Dolby of Hurlock, and a brother, Elwood Reed, Sr. of Bridgeville, Delaware, three grandchildren, Sherry Dolby and Gary Dolby both of Hurlock, and Vicki Donovan of Cokesbury, Maryland, five great-grandchildren, Stacie Pietras of Sharptown, Jill Stuart, Jamie Stuart and W. Boyd Stuart all of Hurlock, Maryland, and M. Ryan Donovan of Cokesbury, Maryland, two great-great-grandchildren, Victoria-Lyn Stuart and Brandt Swann both of Hurlock, Maryland.
A Graveside service will be held on Friday, November 24, 2000 at 2 p.m. in Unity-Washington Cemetery in Hurlock. Viewing will be private.

Age 80 of Wilmington, DE passed away at home on Sunday, February 25, 2001. A graduate of Ursuline Academy and Beacom College, Vera retired from the News Journal Co. in 1985. Dooley, OSFS, Rev. J. Stuart
The Rev. J. Stuart Dooling, 87, born June 27, 1913, a Philadelphia native who fashioned a college out of a cornfield and a couple of bucks, died Wednesday March 7 of a heart attack at Villa St. Joseph, a retirement home for priests in Pittsgrove, N.J. From 1965 until 1978, Father Dooling served as the first president of Allentown College, which in January, 2001 changed its name to DeSales University. The idea for DeSales was conceived in the mind of the late Bishop Joseph McShea,who after serving as an auxiliary bishop in Philadelphia for nine years, became the first bishop of the Allentown Diocese in 1961. The reality of the school was forged by the work of Father Dooling. "I used to call him the creator, because he made something out of nothing," said the Rev. Daniel Gambet, OSFS, the school's first academic dean and Father Dooling's successor as president. "We started with 400 acres of cornfield and $2 million in funding." The college, in Center Valley, Pa., opened its doors with a student population of 156 - all men. Now, it has a budget of $35 million and a coed student population of 2,200, including graduate and part-time students. About 1,100 students are enrolled full time in undergraduate programs. "I give Father Dooling absolute credit for that growth," Father Gambet said. "That would not have happened without his leadership in the beginning."
Bishop Thomas J. Welsh, retired head of the Allentown Diocese, called Father Dooling a "fine priest, skillful administrator and wonderful man" whose work helped to shape the character of DeSales and to spur the growth of Catholicism in the diocese, which comprises Lehigh, Northampton, Berks, Carbon and Schuylkill Counties.
Father Dooling was a professor of physics; a full, tenured professor at Catholic University in Washington when he was assigned to start the new college in the Lehigh Valley. Bishop McShea had offered Father Dooling's congregation, not order, the Oblates of St.Francis de Sales, $2 million in support. "Two million was worth more then, but it was still peanuts when you're starting a college," Father Gambet said. "Father Dooling managed to get the community behind the idea and get the college up and running on limited finances."
In 1978, with the fledgling college by now on firm ground, Father Dooling moved on to become head of the Wilmington-Philadelphia Province of the De Sales Oblates, serving in that capacity until 1984, when he was named board chairman of Allentown College. He retired in 1995.
Father Dooling, who was born in Philadelphia, spent part of his boyhood in Southwest Philadelphia and attended elementary school in Chester, was ordained into the priesthood in 1940. He earned a bachelor's degree in philosophy from Catholic University in 1936. He also held a master's degree and a doctorate in physics, both from Catholic University. He was assigned to teach physics and math at North Catholic High School in Philadelphia three times -in 1933-34, from 1936 to 1938, and from 1940 to 1943. He taught at Catholic University from 1943 until 1964, when he was called to create a college.
Father Dooling was active in the Knights of Columbus and was a trustee of Holy Family College in Philadelphia.
He is survived by a sister, Dermitt Dougherty of Alexandria, VA and a brother,Joseph, of Houston, TX.
A Funeral Mass will be said at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Ninth and DuPont Streets in Wilmington. Friends may call at 5 p.m. Burial will take place at noon Wednesday, March 14 at the cemetery on the grounds of the De Sales Center in Childs, Md.
