Betty L. Drake of Dover, Delaware, died Saturday February 17, 2001 in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital. She was 61. Mrs. Drake was formerly employed with MBNA Credit Card Company in Dover, Delaware. She was preceded in death by a son, Edward Gene Drake in 1994, her mother Florence Tumey and 2 granddaughters, Ashley Shahan and Bailee Shahan. Services will be Wednesday February 21, 2001 at 2PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware, where friends may call Tuesday from 7 to 9PM. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery Smyrna, Delaware.

Drews, Lenus R. "Jr."

Lenus R. “Jr.” Drews of Smyrna, Delaware, died Saturday February 10, 2001 in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital. He was 62. Mr. Drews was born March 2, 1938 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of the late George and Anna Stange Drews. Mr. Drews worked as a meatcutter for several years before reitrement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching football. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Daryl, Vernell and George Drews and 1 sister, Marie Ella Drews. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Morris Drews; 3 daughters, Vickie Doherty of Morganville, New Jersey; Pat Drews of Brick, New Jersey and Gayle Drews of Folly Beach, South Carolina; 3 step-children, Ervin James Bedwell and Anna Bedwell both of Clayton, Delaware and Glendene Younger of Rock Hall, Maryland; 3 brothers, Donald, Leo and Larry Drews all of Fremont, Nebraska; 5 sisters, Marguerite Klahn, Georgianna Brewer and Delores Bales all of Fremont, Nebraska; Phyllis Bozarth of Crumpton, Maryland and Beverly Seaman of Ames, Nebraska. 7 grandchildren and several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends. Memorial services will be Saturday February 17, 2001 at 1PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware. Burial will be private.

Dugan, Kenneth R.

Kenneth R. Dugan, age 72, of Rising Sun, MD, died Monday February 19, 2001 at Harford Memorial Hospital. Mr. Dugan was born in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late, Bernard & Rose Dugan. Mr. Dugan retired in 1988 from Conowingo Power Company after 40 years in the Transmission & Distribution Department. He was a member of American Legion Post 194 in Rising Sun. Over the years he was involved in many youth activities in the community (including the Rising Sun Little League and was a former Scout Master for Boy Scouts Troop #28). He enjoyed playing Santa Claus for many years in the Rising Sun Community. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty M. Dugan; 1 son, Joseph R. Dugan, Sr.; and 2 daughters, Dawn E. Gordner and Kimberly M. Johnson all of Rising Sun; 4 grandchildren, Nicole E. Dugan of Orlando, FL, Susan M. Dugan of Newark, DE, and Kelly E. Gordner and Christopher W. Johnson, both of Rising Sun; and 1 brother, James P. Dugan of Calvert, MD. He is preceded in death by a grandson, Joseph R. Dugan, Jr; a brother, Joseph B. Dugan; and a sister, Louise Rocks. Funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Sat., Feb. 24, 2001 at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Rising Sun with Father Leonard Kempski and Rev. Jim Jones officiating. Viewing will be held Friday evening from 4 - 9 PM at R.T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun. Burial will be in Brookview Cemetery in Rising Sun. In lieu of flowers, family requests contributions be made to the American Legion Post 194 Honor Guard c/o the funeral home.

Duke, Lester H.

Lester H. Duke, 84, of Newark, OH, died at Licking Memorial Hospital in Ohio on Wednesday, February 7, 2001.

Lester was an Army Airforce Veteran of World War II, serving in the China Burma India Theater. He was also an Air Force veteran in the Korean War. Lester was retired from the Department of Defense where he worked for many years as an inspector. He was a member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Ohio and a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Annamarie (Loughery) Duke; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Miller and Alma Duke of Ottumwa, IA, Kenneth and Betty Duke of Alexandria, OH, and Jack and Ethel Duke of Augusta, GA; a sister, Alice Bernsdorf of Westerville, OH; a sister-in-law, Jeanne L. Johnson of Jacksonville, FL (formerly of Wilmington); and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, February 9 at 9:00 am at St. Edward Catholic Church in Newark, OH. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 10 at 11:30 am at Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Avenue, Wilmington.

Dull, Gertrude H.

Getrtrude Honer Dull, age 91, of Wilmington, passed away on Sunday December 10, 2000 at St. Francis Hospital. Mrs. Dull was born in Hartord CT and resided there until her marriage to James Dull in 1936. She relocated to Rutherford NJ, raised a family of 5 and later moved to Delaware in 1991. She attended classes for 5 years at the Academy of Lifelong Learning, studying art, sculpture and poetry. Mrs. Dull was a member of St. Ann’s Parish and sang in the choir. She was predeceased by her husband James in 1970 and by her oldest son Martin in 1981. Survivors include her daughter Marya Dull of Wilmington, sons; Carl Dull and his wife Linda of Rochester MI, Reverend James Dull Jr. of Lakewood NJ, John Dull and his wife Helen of Rutherford NJ, a daughter-in –law Martha Dull of Naples FL, 5 grandchildren; Julie Bossert, Matthew Dull, John Dull, Lauren Clifford, Martin Dull, great-granddaughter; Amanda Joy Bossert and a brother Martin Honer of Rowley MA. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial Mass at Ann’s Parish at a time to be announced. Duncan, Irene W.

Irene W. Duncan, 80, Lotus Street, Dover, passed away Wednesday March 28, 2001 at Christina Hospital in Wilmington.

She was born on May 09, 1920 in Wingeshausen, Germany to Heinrich and Emmi Fischer Doernbach.

She lived in the US for the past 35 years and she was a homemaker.

She is survived by Husband, John H. Duncan of Dover, DE. Son, Peter Doernbach of Germany, . Daughter, Patricia Frechette of Woodside, DE. Brother, Heinz Doernbach of Germany, . Sister, Agnes Ownes of Dover, DE. Grandson Govinda Doernbach of Germany, . Granddaughter Jennifer Frechette of Woodside, DE. .

Graveside Services will be held Wednesday 04/04/2001 11:00 AM at Sharon Hill Memorial Park Dover, Delaware.

The family request that memorial contributions be given to Sandtown Nazarene Church 4448 Williow Grove Road, Felton, Delaware 19943.

Durham, Donald A.

Donald A. Durham of Sumerduck, Virginia, formerly of Dover, Delaware, died in Mary Washington Hospital Fredericksburg, Virgina, Monday January 15, 2001. He was 84. Mr. Durham was born January 10, 1917 in Battle Creek, Michigan the son of the late William and Marella Seeney Durham. He worked as a truck driver for Hall Motor Transit of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for 20 years before retirement. While Mr. Durham was in the Dover area, he enjoyed attending the local 7th Day Adventist Churches and Senior Centers, especially Mamie A. Warren Senior Center near Clayton, Delaware. He was a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather His wife, Rachel Alger Durham died in 1988. He is survived by his daughter, Judith M. Wenck of Price, Maryland; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 1 great grandson. Services will be Friday January 19, 2001 at 1PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware where friends may call 1 hour before services. Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park Dover, Delaware.

D'Aprix, Shirley S.

Shirley S. D’Aprix, 71, of Ocean Pines, died Friday, November 17, 2000 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin. Born in Manhattan, NY, she was the daughter of the late Sidney and Miriam Neuthaler Hinitch. Her husband, Charles D’Aprix died in 1979.

Mrs. D’Aprix was a member of the Friends of Library in Ocean Pines.

No formal services are planned at this time.

Contributions may be made in her memory to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.

Eastburn, III, David R.

David R. Eastburn III Age 54, of Newark, DE died Friday March 23, 2001 at his residence. Mr. Eastburn was a 1965 graduate of the Newark High School. After graduation he entered the U.S. Army and served two tours in the Vietnam War where he received a Purple Heart with the 82nd Airborne. He then returned to the family business at the Red Mill Nursery. David was a member of the local VFW Post 475. Mr. Eastburn is preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Jebb Pennington. He is survived by his father David R. Eastburn Jr. and step-mother, Elizabeth Eastburn of North Fort Meyers, FL. ; his son David R. Eastburn IV. of Trumbull CT. ; and his sister Lynn Eastburn of Newark, DE. Services will be held 11a.m. Thursday March 29 at the First Presbyterian Church, 292 West Main St., Newark. Interment will follow in the Head of Christiana Cemetery Newark, DE. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Delaware Hospice, 3515 Silverside Rd., 100 Clayton Building Wilmington, DE 19810 or your favorite charity. Arrangements by Robert T. Ellis, Valdora E.

Valdora Shuster Donahoe Ellis age 87, of Wilmington died on Friday, February 23, 2001 at Arbours Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Ellis is survived by her sons; Robert of Whitehouse TN, William of Mechanicsburg PA, and Raymond of Milton DE, 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Her husband Ernest predeceased her. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service on Wednesday February 28, at Riverview Cemetery where interment will follow. Ely-Wilkerson, Bettie Louise

Bettie Louise Ely-Wilkerson of Dover passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2001 in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover from Respiratory Disease. She was 74.

Mrs. Ely-Wilkerson and her first husband, the late Harry C. Ely, owned and operated Bon-Bett-Har, a home for the mentally disabled in Marydel. She continued to provide care for clients in her home until she became ill.

She was a lifetime member of the Marydel Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Wilmington Manor Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.

Mrs. Ely-Wilkerson was preceded in death by her fist husband, Harry C. Ely, in 1984.

She is survived by her current husband and dearest friend, David Wilkerson of Dover; a daughter, Christine Ely-Spence and husband Rick of Marydel, DE; two brothers, Ashua Lathbury and his wife Aud of Middletown and Donald Lathbury and his wife Lavern of Wilmington; a granddaughter Melinda Ely Wieber and her husband John of Marydel, DE; a grandson David Christoper Jones and his wife Chrissie Rigby-Jones of Marydel, DE, and six great grandchildren, Aliesha, Sarah, Zachary, Austin, Alex, and Cassie.

Funeral Services will be held 1PM Saturday, March 10, 2001 in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd., Dover. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Greensboro, MD.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Marydel Fire Co., P.O. Box 400, Marydel, DE 19964.

Eskridge, Audrey I.

Audrey I. Eskridge, formerly of Federalsburg, MD, and Greenwood, DE died Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001 at the Seaford Center Genesis ElderCare in Seaford, DE. She was 79. She was born May 26, 1921 in Federalsburg, the daughter of the late Lambertine C. and Reta May Cummings Bradley. Her husbands, Howard Warren and John Eskridge, preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Hurlock High School. Mrs. Eskridge was a seamstress for over twenty-five years and retired from the former Federal Sportswear in 1984. She is survived by four sons, Donald L. Warren of Bridgeville, Kenneth R. Warren, William L. Warren and Alan B. Warren, all of Greenwood, DE; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, 3 brothers Wayne Bradley of Laurel, DE, Alvin Bradley of Charleston, SC, and Gerald Bradley of Sherman, TX; 3 sisters, Ruth Gensler of Baltimore, MD, Brenda Gelston of Phoenix, MD and Nancy Passwaters of Galestown, MD; and many nieces and nephews Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg with the Rev. Harold R. Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg. Evans, Catherine

Catherine Evans of Kenton, Delaware, died at home Wednesday January 24, 2001. She was 40. Mrs. Evans was born October 12, 1960 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Joseph Charlton Sr. and Anna Mae Stewart Charlton of Kenton, Delaware. Mrs. Evans worked as an L.P.N. for Delaware Psychiatric Center in New Castle, Delaware for 6 years before retiring due to disability.. In addition to her parents, she is survived by 5 daughters, Kimberly Evans-Robinson, Jennifer Evans, Christina Evans, Sebrina Slevenski, Tabatha Slevenski all of Kenton, Delaware, 4 sisters, Anna Mae Sroczyk of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Lisa Charlton of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Mary Petroski of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Edith Fogerty of Virginia Beach, Virginia, 2 brothers, Joseph Charlton Jr. of Kenton, Delaware and Stanley Petroski of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 1 grandson, Arien Amani Evans of Kenton, Delaware. Services will be Saturday January 27, 2001 at 1PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware where friends may call Friday from 7 to 9PM. Burial will be private.

Marie C. Fahey

Of Longleaf Lane, Bear, died on Friday, March 16, 2001, in the St. Francis Hospital. Mrs. Fahey was a homemaker. Her husband Frank J. Fahey died October 20, 1998. She is survived by her sons, Paul E. Fahey of Bear, and Jerry Fahey of Orlando, FL; her daughter, Ann Marie Comegys of Wilmington; her sister, Patricia Ferguson of Wilmington; and two grandchildren.
