Myrtle B. Downes,
retired banker
Myrtle Breeding Downes, 85, of Dover, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004 in Capitol Healthcare Center, Dover.
Mrs. Downes was born Jan. 8, 1919, in Goldsboro, Md., daughter of the late Frank and Sarah Pearson Breeding.
She worked at Richardson & Robbins Corp. Trust and the First National Bank of Wyoming. She and her late husband were previous co-owners of Cook & Smith Florist in Dover.
She enjoyed working in her yard, gardening and especially loved to watch hummingbirds.
Her family was her pride and joy.
Mrs. Downes was a member of the Edgehill Community Church of God in Dover and Whatcoat Methodist Church in Camden. She was a member of the Modern Maturity Center in Dover, and the state and local chapters of AARP.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George H. Downes in 1998, and two brothers, Walter and Linwood Breeding.
She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Shrider of Cincinnati, Ohio, Carolyn Clinton of Dover and Sandra Clark of Endicott, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Penny, Patty, Shelly, Allen, Deana and Wendy; eight great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Tyler, TaylorAnne, Grace, Faith, Jay, Brady and Chase; five sisters, Mae Bishop and Barbara Porter, both of Greensboro, Md., Lillian Bishop and Dorothy Thoroughgood, both of Rehoboth Beach, and Ruth Bowers of Clayton; a sister-in-law, Mary Catherine Breeding of Greensboro; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services were held in Torbert Funeral Chapel, Dover, with burial was held in Odd Fellows cemetery , Camden.
Contributions are suggested to Edgehill Community Church of God, 702 Maple Pkwy., Dover, DE 19901.

Kathryn Lingo Hamilton,
support officer
Kathryn Lingo Hamilton, 78, of Millsboro, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2004, in Green Valley Terrace, Millsboro.
Mrs. Hamilton was born June 17, 1926, in Millsboro, daughter of the late Clifford E. and Julia M. Steen Lingo.
She was a support officer for the Family Court, state of Delaware, in Georgetown for 15 years, retiring in 1983.
Mrs. Hamilton was a member of the Oak Orchard CHEER Center and attended the Community Church of Oak Orchard.
She is survived by three sons, Michael G. Zonko of Milton, Charles A. Zonko of Fenwick Island and Joseph A. Zonko of Delmar; a brother, Earl Lingo of Georgetown; a sister, Doris Williamson of Nanticoke, Md. and three grandchildren.
Services were held at Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, with burial was in Millsboro cemetery , Millsboro.

Kenneth G. Black,
retired mechanic
Kenneth G. Black, 79, of Oak Orchard, died at his home on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004.
He was a retired HVAC Mechanic with Herre Bros. of Harrisburg, Pa.
Mr. Black was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540, American Legion Post 28 of Oak Orchard/Riverdale, the New Cumberland, Pa. VFW.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Viola J. Black; three brother-in-laws, George Davis and his wife Janet, Paul Davis and his wife Millie, Arthur Davis and his wife Sally; two sisters-in-law, Marie Miller and Lois Hippensteel and her husband Ronald; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Musselman’s Funeral Home, Lemoyne, Pa., with burial in Blue Ridge Memorial Park cemetery in Harrisburg, Pa.
Contributions are suggested to Delaware Hospice/Southern Division, 600 N. DuPont Hwy, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Ronald E. Townsend Jr.,
retired farmer
Ronald E. Townsend Jr., 63, of Frankford, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at the Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mr. Townsend loved hunting and fishing and was a member of the Future Farmers of America, the Farm Bureau and the Game & Fish Commission.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; two sons, Raymond E. Townsend, III and his wife Penny, Alden “Al” Townsend and his wife Tammy; a daughter, Muriel Gillespie and her husband Glenn; a brother, Sherman L. Townsend and his wife Elaine, five grandchildren, Paige, Allen, Jacob, Semantha and Peyton.
A graveside service was held at St. George’s cemetery in Clarksville.
Contributions are suggested to Frankford United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 37, Frankford, De. 19945, or the Lower Sussex Little League, P.O. Box 372, Ocean View, De. 19970-9988.

Ethel M. Bush,
retired seamstress
Ethel M. Bush, 84, of Georgetown, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at home.
Mrs. Bush was born of February 28, 1920, to the late John and Julia Rogers, and was a lifelong resident of Sussex County.
She was a seamstress for Sportscraft in Lewes for many years before retiring.
Mrs. Bush was a member of the First Baptist Church in Georgetown and served as an attaché in the Dover Assembly for several years.
She was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, Ruth James, Sarah Sockriter, Florence Ward, John Rogers, Mildred Smith and Eva Jeanette Bush.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Howard R, Bush; 3 children, John M. Walls of Lewes, Joanne W. Parsons of Lewes, Joseph D. Walls of Ellendale; six step-children, Howard R. Bush Jr. of Millsboro, Stella LeGates of Millsboro, Steven Bush of Iowa, Charlie Bush of Georgetown, Janet Craft of Greenwood and Tracy Mosurak of Lincoln; her sister, Grace Bush of Lewes; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one foster great-granddaughter.
Serviced were held at Short Funeral Services, Georgetown, with burial was held in Henlopen Memorial Park, Milton.
Contributions are suggested to the First Baptist Church, 601 N. DuPont Hwy., Georgetown, DE 19947.

Beulah M. Mason,
Millsboro homemaker
Beulah M. Mason, 73, of Millsboro and formerly of Boothwyn, Pa. and Chattanooga, Tenn., died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
She was born in Chester, Pa., the daughter of the late Walker and Irene Jamison.
She is survived by her husband, Ernest G. Mason; two sons, Daniel G. Szurgyjlo of Boothwyn, Pa. and Donald Szurgyjlo of Aston, Pa.; two daughters, Rose M. Roberts of Millsboro and Irene C. Szurgyjlo of Boothwyn, Pa.; a sister, Doris Nickle of Aston, pa.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 12, at Delaware Veterans Memorial cemetery South, Millsboro. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 11, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road.

Lois Gay Pauley,
former missionary
Lois Gay Pauley, 61, of Long Neck, was called home to be with the Lord Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004.
Born in Ayer, Mass., the daughter of the late Lionel and Lillian Shaw, she was a missionary for 28 years with Christar in Hong Kong, Bejing, China and Brooklyn, N.Y. Currently she was a member of the New Life Bible Fellowship Church of Delmarva in Long Neck.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Wayne Alan Pauley; two sons, Wayne A. Pauley Jr. of New Hampshire and Mark B. Pauley of Redding, Ca.; a brother, Richard Shaw of Vermont; a sister, Leslie Slocomb of Shirley, Mass.; and six grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 21, in the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Road. Burial will be in Millsboro cemetery.

Jonathan F. Witcoski,
Smyrna high graduate
Jonathan Francis Witcoski, 20, of Clayton died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born Jan. 16, 1984, in Clayton, son of Francis and Deborah Zirbes Witcoski of Clayton.
He was a 2002 graduate of Smyrna High School, where he was on his high school wrestling and football teams.
He was a junior at Delaware Technical & Community College in Dover, after transferring from West Virginia University, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon.
He had been a captain for the Smyrna-Clayton Pop Warner Football team and enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing poker, and being there for his family and friends.
He is survived by his parents, Francis and Deborah Zirbes Witcoski of Clayton; a brother, Anthony J. Witcoski of Newark; his maternal grandparents, Al and Florence Zirbes of Minneapolis; his paternal grandmother, Antoinette Witcoski of Rehoboth Beach; six uncles and six aunts, Peter and Mary Naudi of Pittsburg, Pa., Jimmy and Cindi Ewen of Newark, Carl and Kathy Anderson of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., and Bruce and Michelle Zirbes, Ron and Hanh Zirbes, and Mark and Betsy Zirbes, all of Minneapolis; and eight cousins, Sarah, Hannah, Zach, Andrew, Kim, Karen, Cameron and Maggie.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17, in Faries Funeral chapel, 29 S. Main St., Smyrna.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery , Smyrna.
Instead of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Smyrna-Clayton Pop Warner League, 1953 Van Dyke Greenspring Road Smyrna, DE 19977.

The Rev. Ivan Downing,
retired minister
The Rev. Ivan P. Downing, 88, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004.
The Rev. Downing was a retired minister with the Peninsula General Conference of the United Methodist Church, serving many churches on the Eastern Shore, including those at Reliance, Laurel, Ellendale, Clarksville, Roxana, Millville, Ocean View and Newark.
He graduated from Delhi College, a technical and agricultural college, and later Wesley Theological Seminary, completing advanced studies at Duke University. Before entering the ministry, he was an insurance agent, dairy farm owner and operator and Justice of the Peace. During his ministry he served on many conference boards and agencies to help promote day care centers and workshops to promote reconciliation between races. He wrote and published articles in the Upper Room Devotional Guide and other religious publications. He served as hospital chaplain for Stockley Center and was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Lord Baltimore Lions Club and past captain of the Civil Air Patrol.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen; three sons, Ivan P. Downing Jr., the Rev. Willi8am Downing and John B. Downing; three daughters, the Rev. Carol Lynn Gathagan, Mary Ellen Downing and Judy Lee Marvel-Jennings; a brother, Robert; two sisters, Dorothy Kendall and Mildred Kubiac; eight grandchildr3en; and seven great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 18, at St. George’s United Methodist Church, Clarksville, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. George’s cemetery.

Karen Rogers-Hensler,
former Beebe employee
Karen A. Rogers-Hensler, 48, of Georgetown, died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, in Georgetown of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Karen was born June 15, 1956, in Milford, the daughter of Lola Callaway Rogers of Georgetown and the late Robert D. Rogers Sr. She attended college in Key Biscayne, Fla. and Delaware Tech, receiving an associate degree as a phlebotomist. In the past she had worked at Beebe Medical Center and the Chester County Hospital lab departments.
She enjoyed her family and time spent with all of them. Loving the sunshine, she spent time at the beach, boating and at the pool. She was also very fond of animals.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her loving husband, Mark W. Hensler, whom she wed at Grace U.M. Church in October; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert D. Jr. and Penny Rogers of Georgetown; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, William and Kathleen Hensler of Berlin, Md.; a niece, Stacie Rogers of Georgetown; two nephews, Mark Rogers and Robert D. Rogers III, both of Georgetown; and several cousins, aunts and uncles.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 17, at Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Union cemetery , Georgetown. The family invites everyone to the Georgetown Fire Hall, S. Bedford St., for a luncheon and fellowship following the burial.

William W. Grodzicki,
retired firefighter
William W. Grodzicki, 71, of Wilmington, died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004.
Bill had been a firefighter for 22 years, retiring in 1981 from the City of Wilmington. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, a lifelong member of St. Hedwig Catholic Church and loved football, especially the U of D Blue Hens and Philadelphia Eagles. He had also worked as as courier for LabCorp.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Beatrice M. Peden Grodzicki; a daughter, Theresa “Terri” M. Grodzicki; two sisters, Florence G. Doherty of Wilmington and Frances G. Hamill of Rehoboth Beach; nieces and nephews; and his walking companion, Trae.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 17, at St. Hedwig Church, 408 S. Harrison St., where friends may call at 9 a.m., followed by burial in Cathedral cemetery . Arrangements by John F. Yasik Funeral Home, Wilmington.
