Flanigan, Felix J. F.
Felix “Phil” J. F. Flanigan, 77, of McDaniel Crest, died at his residence on Monday, February 26, 2001.
Mr. Flanigan retired in 1986 from the Dupont Company where he worked as an accountant for 44 years. A World War II Marine Corps veteran, he was a sergeant serving in the South Pacific. Mr. Flanigan earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Delaware at age 74. He was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Church, the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge 307, the Dupont Country Club and the Wilmington Turners Club. Mr. Flanigan spent much of his free time attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and he was also an avid University of Delaware Football Fan.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lillian Kasak Flanigan; a son, Michael and his wife, Beverly of Edgewood, MD; three daughters, Colleen Newcomb and her husband, John, of Indianapolis, IN, Patricia Hirzel and her husband, Herbert of Wilmington, Lisa Marconi and her husband, Thomas, of Wilmington; a sister, Mary Comegys of Florida; and thirteen grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 2 at 10 am at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Concord Pike and Sharpley Road, Wilmington. Friends are invited to call on Thursday evening between 6 pm and 8 pm at Mealey Funeral Home, 703 N. Broom Street, Wilmington. Interment will be at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington. Foley, Jr., William J.
William J. Foley, 78, of Naples, FL, formerly of Wilmington, died at his residence on February 3, 2001 surrounded by his family.
Mr. Foley worked for the Dupont Company for 33 years, retiring in 1985 from the Textile Fibers division. A graduate of the Loyola University of Chicago, he earned his master's degree at the University of Notre Dame. Mr. Foley was one of the founders of the CCD Program for the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington, was a member of the first President's Parent Council at Mount St. Mary's College, and was a volunteer tutor for AP Chemistry at Barron Collier High School in Naples, FL. A former member of St. Mary Magdalen Church in Wilmington and St. Andrew's Church in Ocean City, MD, Mr. Foley served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Dupont Country Club and was a Naval Veteran of World War II. His sister, Margaret Foley, predeceased him in 1999.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 56 years, Rita (McCoy) Foley; two daughters, Kathleen A. Hickey of Wilmington, and Mary E. Foley of Rixeyville, VA; three sons, Sean D. of East Burke, VT, William J., III of Hockessin, and Kevin B. of Newark; and seven grandchildren, Joshua, Ian, Anna, Meaghan, Daniel, Nicole, and Caroline.

Fong-Pu, Shizone
Shizone “Sharon” Fong-Pu, 80, of Wilmington peacefully went home to be with the Lord at Christiana Hospital on Tuesday, December 19, 2000.
Mrs. Fong-Pu was employed by the City Hall of Taipei, Taiwan before her retirement. She immigrated to Wilmington in 1986. She was kind and devoted to her family and friends.
Mrs. Fong-Pu is survived by her daughter Nancy Pu-Chou, son in law Richard Chou and two grandsons, Andrew and Matthew.
Friends are invited to participate with her family in the celebration of her life at a funeral service on Saturday, December 23, 10:30 Am at Wilmington Chinese Evangelical Church, 1512 Brackenville Rd, Hockessin where friends may call after 9:30 AM. Barry O. Ford, 38, Diggins Road, Henderson, passed away Tuesday February 27, 2001 at Kent/Queenanns Hospital Easton, MD
He was born on July 14, 1962 in Anchorage, AK to Oliver and Carole (Pepper) Ford.
Barry worked at Alpine Construction and was very gifted with his hands. He enjoyed building pinic tables, garages and homes. He lived life to the fullsit, he enjoyed boating, crabing, fishing, four wheelers, and hanging with friends..

Fortner, Sarah L.
Sarah L. Fortner of Smyrna, Delaware, died in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital, Thursday March 1, 2001. She was 72. Mrs. Fortner was born February 1, 1929 in Bluefield, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Roosevelt and Mina Harper Burton. Mrs. Fortner was a line worker for Leeds Travelware in Clayton, Delaware for 29 years before working in the Information Center of the Smyrna Rest Area for 20 years and retiring in 2000. She enjoyed shopping. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Fortner in 1997 and a brother-in-law, John McCartney earlier this year. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Lester Foraker of Townsend, Delaware; 1 brother and sister-in-law, Daryl and Janice Burton of Bluefield, Virginia; 1 sister, Nancy Mullens of Mississippi; a sister-in-law, Pauline McCartney of Dover, Delaware and sisters-in-law, Shirley and her husband, John Ottinger of Farmington, Delaware; and Dorothy and her husband, Howard McCartha of Whiterock, South Carolina and a brother-in-law, Harry Fortner of Camden, Delaware. Services will be Monday March 5, 2001 at 12PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware, where friends may call 1 hour before services. Framptom, Margaret Hottle
Margaret Hottle Framptom, 87, of Easton, Maryland, formely of Federalsburg, died Sunday, November 19, 2000 at Easton Memorial Hospital.
Born May 11, 1913 in Manassas, VA, she was the daughter of the later Milton Joseph Hottle and Lizzie Conner Hottle.
Mrs. Framptom attended Bridgewater College in VA, and graduated in 1936 from James Madison Univeristy. Before moving to Federalsburg in 1937, she taught school in Nokesville, VA.
She was a member of Union United Methodist Church in Federalsburg, and active in numerous civic endeavors, including the Order of the Eastern Star, The Holly Center in Salisbury, Maryland and the Rotary Club. Mrs. Framptom was a licensed Funeral Director, and worked for many years in the family business in Federalsburg.
married for 56 years to J. Jerome Framptom, Jr., who died in 1993, she is survived by a son, Joseph H. Framptom of Paducah, KY; a daughter, Dr. Mary Framptom of Denton, MD; a brother, Samuel Hottle of Towson, MD; and four grandchildren: Lt. Joseph B. Framptom of Anchorage, Alaska; Emily K. Framptom of Lexington, VA; Conner B. Framptom and Caroline H. Framptom both of Paducah, KY.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, November 22 at 12:00 noon at Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg, MD with the Reverend Harrel Pitsenbarger, officiating.
In leiu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of the deceased to WSCL, the local classical radio affiliate of NPR, Box 2596, Salisbury, Maryland 21802; or to a charity of one's choice.
Gainey, Zachary M.
Zachary Matthew Gainey, age 5, of Newark died on Friday December 29 2000 at A. I. DuPont Hospital. Zachary was a kindergarten student at Brader Elementary School. He loved books and being read to. He also enjoyed playing with tools and working with his dad. Zachary had a beautiful voice that we will always treasure in our hearts. Survivors include his parents; Edward and Donna Gainey, his twin brother Dillon and his younger brother Andrew, Care-giver Dixie Sinnott and family, Paternal Great-grandmother Joan Warrington, Paternal Grandmom Marlene Brierly, Maternal Grandmother, Shirley Durham, Paternal Great Uncle Stephen Warrington of England, 7 uncles, 5 Aunts and 17 cousins. A special thank you to the entire staff at A.I. DuPont Childrens Hospital for the care they had given to Zachary over the past 2 ˝ years. There will be funeral service at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, on Thursday, January 4, at 11am where there will also be a visitation one hour prior to the service. Garrett, William Lee
William Lee Garrett, 75, died at his home in Greenville on Friday, March 23, 2001 due to complications from lung cancer.
His wife of 43 years, Florence Mitchell Garrett, predeceased him in 1993. He is survived by his second wife, Becky Dickinson, his sister, Hazel Garrett Johnson and her husband Kenneth of Walnut Creek, CA; his daughter and son-in-law, Ginger Garrett Arthur and James W. Arthur of Philadelphia; his son and daughter-in-law, William L. (Jr.) and Mary E. Garrett of Kennett Square, PA; his son and daughter-in-law, Harry M. and Kathy M. Garrett, of Wilmington; and eight grandchildren, Zachary, Harry, Isaac and Hannah Garrett of Wilmington, and Kyle and Taylor Fife, Will and Jack Garrett of Kennett Square.
Mr. Garrett was born in Miami, FL in 1925. He was the son of Reverend Willis O and Ruth Houser Garrett. He grew up in Fort Valley, GA, where he graduated from high school.
He attended the Citadel in Charleston, SC for a year until old enough to enlist in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Garrett flew P-40 fighter planes.
After his discharge from the service, Mr. Garrett attended and graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology, with degrees in Chemistry and Textile Chemistry. He began work for the Dupont Company in 1949 where he was involved in product development and marketing in the Textile Fibers Department. He took early retirement in 1983.
After retirement, Mr. Garrett enthusiastically marketed and installed his invention, Seascape, a synthetic seaweed designed to halt and reverse beach erosion. He oversaw Seascape installations at numerous locations throughout the United States and Caribbean.
Mr. Garrett enjoyed gardening, traveling, and monitoring the stock market. He was a past President of the West Park Civic Association and founding member of the Black Hawks.
He will be remembered for his quick wit and good nature, his abiding affection for and loyalty to his friends, and the love for his family, especially his loud and lively grandchildren.

Geissel, William Sorden
CAMDEN -- William Sorden Geissel of Camden, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 at home. He was 58. Mr. Geissel was born on June 25, 1942 in Woodbury, New Jersey, son of the late Ella Kine and Leonard Geissel. He was a retired postal carrier from the Camden-Wyoming Post Office in June 1998 with 32 years service. He was presently employed part time with Dover Downs. Mr. Geissel was a member of the Camden-Wyoming Fire Company and was a former member of the Camden-Wyoming Lions Club and the Dover Jaycees. He enjoyed camping, fishing, talking, people and spending the summers at Delaware beaches. He is survived by his wife of 33 years Mary Louise Geissel, two sons Jeffery Geissel of Weedsport, NY, and William Geissel of Camden and a daughter Stephanie Geissel of Camden, three grandchildren David, Lois and Joshua all of Weedsport, NY. Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Camden- Wyoming Fire Company, P.O.
