James Edward Hardman, of Hartly died Saturday January 13, 2001 in Lincolnton, N.C. He was 43.
Mr. Hardman was born July 18, 1957 in Clarksburg, W. Va, the son of the late Hotty Hardman, Jr. and Agnes Marie Adams Hardman.
He was a member of the local Painters Union 804 in Clarksburg, W. Va. He attended Webster College in Fairmount, W. Va. From1987 to 1990 and received an associate degree in Business.
He and his family moved to Dover in 1990. Mr. Hardman was employed by Radio Shack in Dover and in Milford as a manager. He reached his million dollars in sales in 1999 in the Milford store.
Due to complications to Diabetes he was placed on disability in May 1999. Mr. Hardman was an avid sports fan especially Nascar and The Dallas Cowboys, and he also enjoyed woodworking.
Mr. Hardman is survived by his wife of 25 years Pam Carpenter Hardman; one son, Joseph "Joey" and one daughter, Jamie both of home. He is also survived by three sisters, Dolores"Dottie" Ergenzinger of Dover, Sue Stewart of Clarksburg, W.Va., and Linda Deem of Sandersville, Ga.; one brother, Charles Bubby Hardman of Clarksburg, W.Va and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2PM Tuesday, January 16, 2001 at the Torbert Funeral Chapel 61 S. Bradford St. Dover, where friends may call 2 hours before service time. Interment will be in the Sharon Hills Memorial Park Dover, DE.

Caroly Youse Harrell
Age 43 of Havre de Grace, MD, formerly of Newark, DE, died Friday, March 23, 2001 at Union Hospital in Elkton, MD of a heart attack. Carolyn was a business leader for Elixir Guitar Strings at W.L. Gore and Associates at their Appleton South and Flagstaff, AZ locations. Previously, she was employed by Hilmont/Montell. Carolyn was a graduate of Concord High School, the University of Delaware with a Bachelor's degree and the University of Pennsylvania with a Master's degree both in mechanical engineering. Together with her father and grandfather, she was a member of Tau Beta Pi, the Engineering Honor Society. Carolyn loved working with ceramics, music, opera and theater, and the world with her "buddy" Doug. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Douglas Harrell; her sister Ann Sheilds and her husband John of Mermaid; her sister Elizabeth Goetz and her husband Carl of Media, PA; her mother Joan Youse of Newark, DE; her niece Amy Jewett; her nephews, Jon Shields, Billy Jewett and Will Harrell; and her uncles, Arthur Youse of Ripley, WV, Charles Youse of Readsboro, VT. She will be missed by her father-in-law, Jerald Harraell and his wife Barb; mother-in-law, Caroline Bergman and her husband Richard; and brother-in-law, David Harrell and his wife Edris. She was preceded in death by her father, George H. Youse in 1998. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Wednesday, March 28 at 11am, where friends may call Tuesday evening, March 27 from 6-9 pm. Harrington, Allen Dean
Allen Dean Harrington, 55, of North East, MD died Saturday, March 24, 2001 at home. Mr. Harrington was born on April 16, 1945 in Elkton, MD. He was a commercial truck driver for the Aberdeen Proving Ground. He was a ten point US Army veteran of the Vietnam war and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of the local American Legion, Post 194 and the VFW in Rising Sun. He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, NASCAR, dancing, racing, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mabel A. Harrington of North East; his mother, Dorothy F. Harrington of Rising Sun, MD; 1 son, Dwayne E. Harrington of Cecilton, MD; 2 daughters, Brenda L. Hepbron of Chesapeake City, MD and Patricia M. Harrington of North East; and 7 grandchildren, Johanna, Ashley, Richie, Ben, Ariel, Hunter and Dean. He is preceded in death by his father Dean Harrington. Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday March 27, 2001 at R. T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun where friends may call Monday evening from 7 - 9 pm. Rev. Robert C. Prior will be officiating and full military honors will be provided by Mason Dixon Post 194 Honor Guard. Burial will be in Brookview Cemetery, Rising Sun, MD. Hassett, Myrtle Elizabeth
Myrtle Elizabeth Turner Hassett formerly of Federalsburg died on Friday, February 9, 2001 at Seaford Genesis Eldercare Center. She was 92. She was born on June 25, 1908 in Williamsburg, MD the daughter of the late William and Virginia Windsor Todd. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Theodore R. Turner and William A. Hassett. She had worked on the assembly line at Maryland Plastics until her retirement in 1970 after 26 years of service. She had attended Christ United Methodist Church in Federalsburg. She is survived by two daughters, Jean T. Seipp of Seaford, Delaware and Fay T. Clendaniel of Georgetown, DE.,a daughter-in-law, Ruth Ann Turner of Seaford, 7 grand,children 11 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Theodore "Mace" Turner in 1996, and was the last of nine children. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 12, 2001 at Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home P.A. in Federalsburg with Rev. William Harding officiating. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Cemetery in Federalsburg. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday one hour prior to the service. Hazzard, Dora "Toots"
Dora E. “Toots” Hazzard, 87, of Smyrna, died on Monday March 5 at her home. She was born in Shelton, Nebraska and moved to California, where she married her late husband, L.V. “Hap” Hazzard in 1944. While her husband was serving in the Air Force, they also resided in Alabama, Pennsylvania, New York, and Japan prior to his transfer to Dover Air Force Base in 1957. Mrs. Hazzard retired from Canteen Corp. in 1975. She was a founding member of Peace Lutheran Church, Smyrna, and a member of the L.W.M.L. She loved baking and cooking for her family and friends. Her husband died in 1987. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Roger L. and Nancy Hazzard, of Dover; a daughter, Sandra L. O’Hedy, of Smyrna; a sister, Ruby Pope, of Ravenna, Nebraska; 4 grandchildren, Christopher Hazzard, of St. Louis, Mo.; Katie Borntreger, of Marietta, Ga.; Debbie O’Hedy, of Hartly; and Joel Hazzard, of Smyrna. Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday March 9 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call Thursday evening from 7-9:00PM. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover. Heller, Henry W.
Henry W. Heller of Felton died Monday, April 2, 2001 in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 71.
Mr. Heller was born on June 2, 1929 in New York City, the son of the late Walter and Minna Heller.
He entered the service in 1951. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1972, having served 22 years on active duty. In addition to his diversified continental United States assignments were two tours in North Africa with the Military Air Transport Command and the Air Rescue and Recovery Service, as well as an assignment with the 56th Special Operations Wing in South East Asia during 1969/70 where he was Superintendent of several engine shops maintaining power plants for approximately seven types of aircraft, including the famous A-1 Skyraider Fighter Bomber used in attack, ground support, and rescue missions. Following his return to the U.S., he functioned as a Propulsion Branch Chief with the 96th Bombardment Wing of the Strategic Air Command at Dyess Air Force Base in Texas. While stationed in Delaware, he was responsible for engines on the B-52 Bomber and KC-135 Tanker aircraft. Among his many decorations are the Bronze Star, the Air Force Commendation Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, several Presidential Unit Citations, and the Viet Nam Service Medal.
In 1973, he entered employment as an officer with the Delaware Department of Correction at the Delaware Correctional Center and ultimately retired as a Captain from the Morris Correctional Institution in Dover in 1991. For the past eight years he functioned as a member of the Governor’s Council on Corrections providing input and suggestions, including the recent prison expansion program within the State.
Mr. Heller held many offices within military service organizations including Junior Vice, Senior Vice, and ultimately Commander of the VFW Post 11111 in Dover; Junior Vice and Senior Vice-Commander of VFW Post 6921 in Harrington; Judge Advocate, Junior Vice, Senior Vice, and Commander of VFW District 3 covering seven Posts within Kent County; and Commander of his most beloved organization, PupTent #2, Military Order of the Cootie, the Honor Degree of the VFW in Camden. He also functioned as the Hospital Chairman of this unit, coordinating visits to Veterans in various hospitals and nursing homes. In 2000, he was appointed as Assistant Inspector General of the National VFW organization. At the time of his death, he was a Life Member of VFW Post 3238 in Camden.
Mr. Heller was also very active within the community. He was a member of St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Dover. He had also held positions as Secretary, Vice-Chairman and four years as Chairman of the 30th District Democratic Representative Committee. During his tenure, his peers honored him as the 30th Democrat of the year.
He enjoyed gardening and yard work. He was also an avid fan of NASCAR Winston Cup racing with his favorite driver being Bill Elliott.
Mr. Heller is survived by his wife, “Billie” Heller to whom he was married for 45 years; a son, Walter Heller of Georgetown; four daughters, Hannelore Garner of New Castle, Linda Goodnight of Dover, Irmgard Jones of Newark, and Nancy Price of Media, PA; three grandchildren, Jason Goodnight, Anastasia Jones, and Aleshia Price; and a great grandchild, Mekenna Goodnight.
Funeral Services will be held 7:30 PM Thursday, April 5, 2001 in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd., Dover. Friends may call from 6 PM to 9 PM on Thursday evening with a MOC and VFW service being held at 7 PM. Burial with Military honors will be 11 AM Friday, April 6, 2001 in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Georgetown.

Hennings, Richard "Dick"
Richard “Dick” Hennings, born May 10, 11929, in Waverly, Iowa, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully March 16, 2001 at his home.
He graduated from Waverly High School in Waverly, Iowa, in 1944. When his country called, he joined the U.S. Nay in August of 1944. He served during World War II in Okinawa, during the Korean War, and two tours of duty in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. After 26 years of service to his country, he retired as Chief Petty Officer in August of 1971. He resided in Tuscaloosa since 1969 where he became an avid Alabama football fan. He worked for the Alabama State Unemployment Office after his Navy career, and retired from the State in December of 1989.
Richard was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 804, the Elks Lodge 393, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6022, and the Tuscaloosa Personnel Association. He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Alberta.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Mabel Hennings of Waverly, Iowa; his former wife, Shirley Hennings of Tuscaloosa, AL; his sister, Eileen Albrecht of Waverly, Iowa; and his daughter, Marleen Doty of Tuscaloosa, AL.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Hennings of Tuscaloosa; his brothers, Billie Hennings (Ruth) of Summer, Iowa, and Charles Hennings (Maureen) of Corner Ketch, DE; his daughters, Kathi Gunderson of Los Angeles, CA, Shirley Gunther (Roman) of Lake Elsinore, CA, Maureen Hennings of Gordo, AL; his son, Richard, Jr. (Cindy) of Tuscaloosa, AL; his stepchildren, Seretha Rainey (Ronald) of Moundville, AL, Joe Moon of Oneonta, AL, Terry Moon, (Tim Hamlin) of Orlando, FL, Barry Moon (Polly) of Macon, GA; 19 grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
Services were held on Monday, March 19, at 2:00 pm at the Memory Chapel in Tuscaloosa with Timothy Killian officiating. Burial followed at Memory Hill Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his name to the Loyal Order of Moose, Endowment Fund of Moose International, Mooseheart, IL 60539-1177.
Hill, Janet C.
Janet C. Hill, 66, of Colora, MD, died Saturday, February 10, 2001 at Harford Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Hill was born on April 19, 1934 in Maryland the daughter of the late Elihu and Nancy Octavia Horn. She was a nurses aide at Oxford Manor Nursing Home. She is survived by her husband, James H. Hill of Colora; 5 sons, James Ronald Hill of Elkton, MD, Larry Dean Hill of Little Britain, PA, Roy Beverly Hill of Oxford, PA, Garry Lee Hill of Conowingo, MD and Dennis Lloyd Hill of Colora; 3 daughters, Janet Marie Herrera of Kennett Square, PA, Angela Fay Wood of Rising Sun, MD, and Donna Gay Steiner, of Altus, OK; brother, Arnold Horn and sister, Joan Hill, both of Rising Sun; 23 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Service will be held at 2 PM on Wed. Feb. 14th at Christ Community Fellowship Church, Rt. 841, West Grove, PA. Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 7 - 9 p.m. at R. T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD. Interment will be in West Nottingham Cemetery.
Hitchens, Florence Emmaline Waller
Florence Emmaline Waller Hitchens of Laurel, DE died Saturday, November 25, 2000 at Seaford Genesis Elder Care of Seaford, DE. She was 75.
She was born on December 25, 1924 in Salisbury, Maryland, the daughter of the late Marion and Mary Emma Andrews Waller.
Florence was educated in Wicomico County Publc Schools. She was a member of Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church. She attended St. James A.M.E. Zion Church before moving to Laurel, DE.
Florence was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Leonard Hitchens.
She is survived by a devoted niece whom she raised, Sandra Winder of Bridgeville, DE, and her brother, Pete. She also leaves to mourn her passing three sisters, Beulah Deshields, and Lucille Waller both of Salisbury, and Lavenia Marie Moon of Cocoa, FL, a devoted niece, Betty Mc Coy of Salisbury, MD, and her husband, Timothy McCoy, three devoted nephews, Samuel Gaines of Laurel, DE, Darius Gaines and Andre Truitt, Jr., both of Bridgeville, DE, ane sister-in-law, Emma Hudson of Laurel. She was preced in death by three Brothers, James Waller, John Waller and Perry Waller.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2000 at 1p.m. at Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church in Columbia, DE, with Reverend Gertrude Brown, Officiating. Friends may call the Church on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Hodgkinson III, William F.
William F. Hodgkinson III of Smyrna, Delaware, died in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital, Friday April 6, 2001. He was 67. Mr. Hodgkinson was born February 20, 1934 in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of the late William F. Hodgkinson II and Gladys Williams Hodgkinson. Mr. Hodgkinson worked as a government housing inspector/chief engineer for the Federal Government in Germany. He served 12 years in the Army Reserves. He is survived by his wife, Erica Kwett Hodgkinson 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald and Ilene Carp of Edgewood, Maryland and Rico Hodgkinson of Baltimore, Maryland; 1 daughter, Bonita Carp-Banik of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; 1 sister and bother-in-law, Nancy and Chris Christenson of Utah, 2 grandchildren, Kody Banik of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Isabel Hodgkinson of Baltimore, Maryland and children in California. Memorial services will be Monday April 9, 2001 at 1PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware, where friends may call 1 hour before services. Burial will be private.
