James Henry "Jim Bob" Holleger, Sr. of Woodside, died on February 2nd at home. He was 70 years old.

Mr. Holleger was born on January 11, 1931 in Felton, Delaware to the late John T. and Lola R. Holleger. He served in the U.S. Army for 9 years as an Engineer. He served in the Korean War. From 1968 to 1972 he was co-owner of Hollegers Super Market in Cheswold, De. with his brother, Fred S. Holleger of Dover. From 1963 to 1968 he owned Woodside Market. From 1968 to 1978 he worked for Gilpen Drug Company. For 17 years he sold produce at Spence's Sale and Laurel Flea Market until he became ill two years ago.

Mr. Holleger is survived by his loving wife and best friend for 45 years, Shirley A. Holleger; 7 children, James H. Holleger, Jr. of Milford, De., Patricia A. Mitchell of Dover, De., Bonnie Holleger Pinder of Bridgeville, De., Carrie Rae Kimball of Felton, De., Michael G. Holleger of Dover, De., Richard Scott Holleger of Magnolia, De., and Edna Beth Rash of Smyrna, De.; 17 grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Ivanette Flowers of Dover, De., Fred Holleger of Dover, De., Amanda Consalo of Bridgeville, De., and Rebecca Hollinger of Lincoln, De.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John Holleger, two half-brothers, Stanton Holleger and Thomas Holleger and a half-sister, Anna Moore.

He was dearly loved by his family.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 7th at 2 PM at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover. Pastor William Kidwell of the Smyrna Church of Christ will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral chapel from noon until 2 PM. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.

Howell, Martha J.
Martha J. Howell Age 83 of Wilmington, DE passed away Saturday, March 3, 2001 after a long illness. Martha was born in Shippensburg, PA. She came to Wilmington in the early 1940s and worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad as an electrician's helper. She worked for Kennard's department store from 1963-1985. She was predeceased by her husband, Bayard Norman Howell in 1969. She is survived by her son, Harold E. Howell of Wilmington, DE; her daughter, Mary Borowka of Wilmington, DE; and her stepson, Donald P. Howell of San Jose, CA. Her sister, Edna G. Wisman of York, PA; 5 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 5 nieces and 1 nephew also survive her. The service and interment will be held privately. Hudson, Susan M.
Age: 42 Address: Viola, DE Died at: Home

Background: Mrs. Hudson graduated from the University of Delaware in 1980. She worked on the family farm using her skills as an agriculture specialist. Mrs. Hudson attended the Viola United Methodist Church. She was a past Chancellor of Alpha Zeta Agra Fraternity, a member of the Fruitland Grange, Delaware Farm Bureau, Delaware Holstein Association, National Red and White Cattle Association, a member of the Delaware Dairy Princess Committee, 3S Riding Club, and the Delaware Equestrian Team with the University of Delaware. Mrs. Hudson also helped with the Girl Scout Troup # 1040. Mrs. Hudson loved riding horses, and working and showing off her Holstein cows. Mrs. Hudson will leave a legacy of being a devoted mother and wife who loved her family.

Humenay, Angelina M.

Angelina M. Humenay of Smyrna, Delaware, died Sunday February 4, 2001 in Westminster Village Health Center Dover, Delaware. She was 92. Mrs. Humenay was born June 20, 1908 in Grassflat, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Joseph M. and Victoria Loje Ziembo. She worked as a seamstress for 52 years before retiring in 1990. She was a member of St. Polycarps Roman Catholic Church in Smyrna and enjoyed crocheting and being with her children. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Jetko and her second husband, John Humenay. She is survived by 1 son, Theodore Jetko of Middleburg, Florida 2 daughters, Angelina Hyland of Smyrna, Delaware and Cecelia McMahon with whom she lived. 1 step-son, Michael Humaney of Irvington, New Jersey. 1 brother, Victor Ziembo of Houston, Texas. 1 sister, Cecelia Ferguson of Allport, Pennsylvania and 5 grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday February 10, 2001 at 10AM in St. Polycarps Roman Catholic Church, 135 Ransom Lane Smyrna, Delaware. Friends may call Friday from 7 to 9PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery Smyrna, Delaware. Hurd Sr., Robert W.
Robert W. Hurd, age 81, of Milford, DE, died at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial on Sunday, January 28, 2001.

Mr. Hurd served in the US Army during WWII and saw action in China, India, and Burma. Mr. Hurd worked in the textile industry as a machinist with Steiner and Company. He was a member of the Milford Church of the Nazarene and was also a member of D.A.V. In his spare time, Mr. Hurd loved to fish and hunt, work his garden, and cut grass. Mr. Hurd will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. Mr. Hurd was a “jack-of-all-trades” who took no shortcuts and passed along his ingenuity and skills to his family. He was a very dedicated family man whose father figure branched out to his extended family and his siblings family. Nobody was a stranger in his house, all were fed at his table, if you were cold you were given clothing, and if you were tired you had a bed to sleep in. Mr. Hurd loved music and was an accomplished musician, and his love of music was passed along to his children and grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents William B. and Emma Louise Hurd and a daughter Mary Beth Hurd.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Edith Hurd of Milford, five sons, Robert W. Hurd Jr. of Milford, Lonny G. Hurd Sr. of Milford, Marshall “Fred” Hurd of Greenwood, Joseph “Joey” Hurd of Lincoln, Bryan K. Hurd of Milford, four daughters, Elaine A. Hurd of Milford, Beverly Jean Lindale of Greenwood, Loretta M. Muller of Milford, Sandra L. Williams of Lincoln, 14 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.

Services will be Friday, February 2, 2001, 1:00 PM, at the Milford Church of the Nazarene, Milford. Rev. Kenneth Huffman, Rev. Jim Line, and Rev. Royce Andrews will be officiating.

Visitation will be Thursday evening from 7 to 9 PM at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. Dupont Hwy., Harrington. Internment will be at the Milford Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milford.

HURLEY, PEARL G.
PEARL G. HURLEY, of Little Creek, died January 10, 2001 in St. Petersburg, Florida, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was 81. Mrs. Hurley was born February 16, 1919 in Sussex County to the late Benjamin and Katherine (Spears) Marvel. She worked at their family business, "Corkey's Market" in Little Creek, she was also a postmistress for the Little Creek Post Office. She also worked for the Capitol School District as a Foster Grandparent and a cafeteria worker. She was a member of the Little Creek United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Little Creek Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary. She loved working in her flower garden, shopping at the grocery store, and cooking for her family. She also used to make wedding cakes. She was preceded in death by her husband: Frankling L. "Corkey" Hurley, Sr.; 2 sons: Franklin "Poochie" Hurley, Jr., Dennis "Mousie" Hurley; a daughter: Evelyn Virdin; 2 brothers: Ben Marvel and John Marvel. She is survived by 4 sons:David Hurley of Florida, Dan Hurley of Floriday, Jeff "Buck" Hurley of Little Creek, Ken "Tweet" Hurley of Little Creek; 5 daughters: Frances Allison of Dover, Joanne Sullivan of Little Creek, Sandra Bartsch of Dover, Hope Ale of Dover, Karen Hurley of Florida; 4 brothers: Jim Marvel, Harry Marvel, Bill Marvel and Raymond Marvel, all of Little Creek; 1 sister: Betty McRobie of Pasadena, MD; 17 granchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2001 in the Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, where friends may call two hours prior to the service in the funeral home. Burial will be in the Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover. Officiating was Pastor Charlene Evans. Memorial contributions may be made to either: Little Creek Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 327, Little Creek, DE 19961; or Little Creek United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 476, Little Creek, DE 19961.

Hutchins, Wolcott

Wolcott Hutchins of Woodland Beach, Delaware, died in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital, Saturday March 24, 2001. He was 82. Mr. Hutchins was born April 20, 1918 in Hartly, Delaware, the son of the late Wolcott and Mary Racine Hutchins. Mr. Hutchins retired from the United States Air Force Civil Service as an aircraft technician/supervisor at Dover Air Force Base. He later worked part time for the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Threatre during the Battle of Layte Gulf and the New Guinea and Phillipines invasions. He was an avid waterfowl hunter and fisherman and enjoyed gardening and Labrador retrievers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Buelah Blakenship Hutchins in 1988. He is survived by his wife Margaret Brooks Hutchins; 3 sons, Robert W. and Douglas J. Hutchins both of Smyrna, Delaware and Wayne Hutchins of Wilmington, North Carolina; 2 daughters, Cheryl Kenley of Wyoming, Delaware and Sandra Winnington of Wilmington, Delaware; 1 sister, Agnes Newcomber of Bryn Marr, Pennsylvania and 3 grandsons, Justin Kenley of Seattle, Washington, Weston Kenley of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Douglas Hutchins Jr. of Woodland Beach, Delaware and 2 step-sons, Melvin R. Sethman of Dade, Florida and Francis Sethman of Smyrna, Delaware. Services will be Friday March 30, 2001 at 11AM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware, where friends may call 1 hour before services. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery Smyrna, Delaware. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 South DuPont Highway Dover, DE 19901.

Hutchison, Evelyn L.
Evelyn L. Hutchison, age 81, of Delaware City, died at Christiana Hospital on Thursday, January 11, 2000.

Mrs. Hutchison was a homemaker. Her husband, Robert, died in 1982.

She is survived by two sons, Robert W. of Delaware City and Ronald L. of Florida; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Sheats of New Castle; three brothers, James Waldridge of Newark, Elwood “Leon” Waldridge of Seaford, and Robert Waldridge of Newark; 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 15 at 11:00 am at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington where friends are invited to call after 10:00 am. Interment will be at St. George’s Cemetery, St. George’s, DE.

Hutson Sr, Vaughn Arthur

Vaughn Arthur Hutson Sr, 75, a retired hwy maintenance engineer for State Highway Department, where he worked for 35 years, died Thursday, November 16, 2000 at Memorial Hospital of Easton in Easton, Maryland. Mr. Hutson Sr lived in Greensboro, Maryland for and was previously from .

He is survived by his wife Estelle.

He was preceded in death by his father, Chester A Hutson, and his mother, Florence Gertrude Warren.

He was born July 31, 1925 in Wilmington, Delaware the son of Chester and Florence (Warren) Hutson.

Visitation will be held at Fleegle-Helfenbein Funeral Home, P.A. on Sunday from 7 to 9 P.M.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 20, 2000 at 2:00 P.M. at Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home. Chaplain Ronald Papineau will be officiating. Burial will be in the Greensboro Cemetery in Greensboro.

JOHN W. IRWIN

Age 67 of Oak Road, Seaford, DE, died Saturday, January 6, 2001 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford, DE.

Mr. Irwin served 20 years with the USAF, retiring in 1970 as a Staff Sgt. After his military career, he was employed with the State of Delaware for 12 years as a Correction Officer in Smyrna and Dover, retiring in 1981. He enjoyed fishing in his spare time and has received two fishing citations.

Mr. Irwin was preceded in death by a son, John E. Irwin, in 1980.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Edris A. Irwin, 2 sons; Brian Keith Irwin of Bridgeport, W VA and Scot M. Irwin of Dover, DE, 2 step-sons; Sam Allen of Jacksonville, NC and Charles Allen of Kenansville, NC, 2 daughters; Amber Comegys of Davie, FL and Linda Bice of Crossville, TN, 2 sisters; Marjorie Burger of East Freedom, PA and Johanna Carper of Port Marion, PA, 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 11, 2001 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, DE. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday evening, January 10th from 7-9 pm. Interment with full military honors will be in Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica, DE.

Roseann E. Jackson, 57, Main Street, Frederica, passed away Tuesday February 27, 2001 at KGH Bay Health Dover Dover.

She was born on August 17, 1943 in Chester, PA to Charley and Martha (Schwanty) Lister.

She was a life member of the North Bowers Vol. Fire Dept. and also the Ladies Aux. for North Bowers Fire Dept. she enjoyed fishing and bingo. She loved her family and spending time with her grand children..
