Ethel Smith Lucas, age 105, died March 6th, at the Emily P. Bissell Hospital in Wilmington.

Ethel was a homemaker. She is survived by her daughter Irene R. Melton, and her granddaughter Elizabeth J. Jones both of New Castle.

Service will be private.

Lundberg, Valdemar F.
Valdemar “Val” F. Lundberg, 91, born Christmas Day 1909, passed away at his home in Lewes on Sunday, January 21, 2001.

He was a member of the Pipefitters Local Union #74. As he often said, he went to work for Wm. D. Shelladay for a two-week job and retired from there over 40 years later. He was a life member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a member of St. Elizabeth’s Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Margaret, in 1994, and his only son, Paul V. Lundberg in 1987.

He is survived by his daughters, Gail Marta of Lewes, DE, with whom he lived, and Margaret Phelps and Valerie Kaiser, both of Wilmington; his sister, Dorothy Lundberg of Wilmington; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 25 at 10:00 am at St. Elizabeth’s Church, Cedar and Clayton Streets, Wilmington. Friends are invited to visitation on Wednesday evening between 6 pm and 8 pm at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, Grand Central Station, P. O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163.

Luskin, Anna Dorothy
Anna Dorothy Luskin, 93, of Wilmington, DE, died at Brandywine Convalescent Center in Wilmington on Saturday, January 20, 2001.

Born in Troy, NY, Dorothy, as she was known, lived most of her life in Schnectady, NY before retiring to Daytona Beach in 1963. In 1984, she moved to Wilmington after the death of her husband, Leo, in 1982. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Hockessin, DE.

Mrs. Luskin is survived by several nieces, great nieces, and great nephews, great great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 25 at 11:00 am at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, where friends may call after 10:00 am. Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery in Port Orange, FL.

Lutz, Doris M.
Doris M. Lutz, 77, lifelong Wilmington resident, died at Kentmere Nursing Home on Tuesday, February 27, 2001.

Miss Lutz was a member of St. Ann’s Church and is survived by several cousins. Her bubbly, outgoing personality will be sorely missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 2, 1:00 PM at St. Ann’s Church, Gilpin Avenue and Union Street, Wilmington. Family and friends may call Friday after12:30 at the church. MacFarland, Freda Marie
Age 73 of Frederica, DE Died at: Christiana Medical Center, Wilmington, DE

Mrs. MacFarland was a housewife who enjoyed raising and caring for her family, and was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Frederica. She loved flowers and animals, especially birds. She will be remembered as a very good mother and grandmother and a friend to all the neighborhood children.

Preceded in death by her parents – Harry S. and Marie Dodd

Survivors:

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, James M. MacFarland Sr. of Frederica, two daughters, Bonnie C. Keller and husband Larry of Frederica and Donna L. Cox and husband Allen of Frederica, two sons, James M. MacFarland Jr. and wife Sally of Frederica, and Charles E. MacFarland of Frederica. She also is survived by her grandchildren, Kevin MacFarland of Milford, Lisa MacFarland of Frederica, Sharon L. Wyatt of Newark, Amy M. Wyatt of Newark, Gary Humphrey Jr. of North Carolina, and Autumn Dill of Milford, and 3 great grandchildren, Brea Ann MacFarland, Ariel Dill, and Hunter Dill.

Services: Tuesday, January 30, 2001 1:00 PM Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington There will be a viewing on Monday evening from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home. Pastor Sam Ingram of Frederica First Baptist Church will officiate. Internment will be at Barratts Chapel Cemetery in Frederica.

Mackenzie, Madeline H.

Madeline H. Mackenzie, 94, formerly of Frazier Place, Smyrna, died on Wednesday February 7 at Courtland Manor Nursing Home, Dover. Mrs. Mackenzie was born in Wilmington, and had formerly been employed as a registered nurse at Wilmington Hospital. She enjoyed reading.

Her husband, Walter T. Mackenzie, is deceased.

She is survived by 2 nephews, Carlton E. Seward, of Smyrna; and Wayne H. Seward, of Spokane, Washington.

Services and burial will be private. Arrangements were by Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, Smyrna.

Madron, John Curtis
John Curtis Madron, 84, of Port Deposit, MD, died Wednesday, February 28, 2001 at Calvert Manor Healthcare Center. Mr. Madron was born on January 10, 1917 in Trade, TN. He was an electrician at Bainbridge for 26 years before retiring. He was a member of the American Legion Post 194 in Rising Sun for over 50 years. He was a Pearl Harbor Survivor and a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy during WWII for 6 years. He was a avid hunter and enjoyed bowling and NASCAR. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Johnsie C. Madron of Port Deposit; 1 son, Jackie Glenn Madron of Colora, MD; 3 daughters, Patricia M. Shires and Linda Sue Harrington, both of Port Deposit, and Judy L. Holbrook of Rising Sun; 3 sisters, Lucille Eller and Sue Parsons, both of Mountain City, TN and Lois Wills of Trade, TN; 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hillery & Veanie Madron, a brother, Earl Madron and 2 sisters, Millie Lea Seiss and Ruth Seehorn. Service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday March 3, 2001 at R. T. FOARD FUNERAL HOME, 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun where friends may call two hours prior. Rev. Larry Johnson of New Life Faith Center in Port Deposit will be officiating. Burial will be in West Nottingham Cemetery, Colora, MD. Full military honors will be provided by American Legion Mason Dixon Post 194 Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Northern Chesapeake Hospice Foundation or the Calvert Manor Nursing Scholarship Fund c/o the funeral home.

Maida, Sr., Dominic J.
Dominic J. Maida Sr., age 70, of Wilmington, passed away on Saturday December 30, 2000 at home. Mr. Maida was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a Mail Carrier for 32 years. He coached little league baseball and was also a member of Local 191 Letter Carriers Union. Mr. Maida is survived by his wife of 48 years Jeanne (nee) Zimny, 3 sons; Dominic Jr., and wife Gail of Newark, James and wife Nadine of Landenberg PA, Michael and wife Patricia of Hockessin, 1 Daughter; Cynthia Quinn of Newport, 6 grandchildren; Shannon, Dominic III, Angela, Kristen, Melinda and Patrick, his mother; Clara Maida of Maplecrest and 3 sisters. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a viewing at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, on Wednesday January 3, from 6-8pm. A funeral service will commence at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Bear, on Thursday at 11am. Frances F. Maley

Of Wilmington, died Sunday March 4, 2001 of recently diagnosed cancer. She was born July 21, 1923 in Indianapolis, IN the only daughter of Harvey C. and Frances Louise Cain Fenimore. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia A. Maley, and her son-in-law, Charles P. Hengel and numerous relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, James A. Maley who died in 1977. Frances had trained as a nurse at Jefferson, but took a different career path after marrying and moving to California where she was assistant manager of a private club. Her most recent profession prior to her retirement in the 1980s was in real estate sales. She was the Adult Coordinator for the Blue Jean Park teen dances that were run in the early to mid 1970s. She dearly loved travel, music, art, reading, good humor and animals. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 345 Bear-Christiana Road, Bear, DE on Saturday morning, March 10, 2001 at 11am where friends may call after 10am. Interment will be private. In her memory, contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church Building Fund, 345 Bear-Christiana Road, Bear, DE 19701 or to the Delaware Humane Society, 701 A. Marlin, Albert C.
Albert C. Marlin, Sr.., 64, Columbia Ave., Dover, passed away Thursday February 15, 2001 at his home with family and friends.

He was born on May 23, 1936 in Detroit, MI to Albert and Vera (Kelly) Marlin.

He served in the USAF from 1952 to 1956. He was employed by the US Postal Service for 34 years and retired as Postmaster of the DAFB Post Office in Oct. 1992. Among the many things he enjoyed was the time spent bowlimg with Club 55 Modern Maturity and the traveling league. He worked tirelessly in his yard with his flowers and pool for family and friends to enjoy. Often he and his wife Peggy took a vacation in Florida, where they enjoyed the sun, the ocean and the good fishing. He is also preeced in death by a sister Barbara Root.

He is survived by his Wife of 45 years, Peggy Carey Marlin of Dover, DE. Son and his wife, Albert and Laurie Marlin, Jr., Daughter and her husband, Karie and David Kimmick, Grand child, Samantha Marlin, Grand child, Chelsea Marlin, Grand child, Michelle Kimmick, Grand child, Justin Brown, Grand child, Katie Brown, Many Nieces and Nephews Sister, Nancy Erickson

Massey, Lee R.
Lee R. Massey, age 78, Galestown, MD died on Saturday, February 03, 2001 at home of heart failure. Mr. Massey was a farmer his entire life in Galestown and also worked for Dececo Cannery in Rhodesdale, MD. He loved gardening and flowers. His wife, Betty Wheatley Massey died in 1995. He is survived by 5 daughters, Phyllis Freeman and Helen Joseph of Seaford, Elsie Schroeder of Willards, MD, Rose Marie James of Laurel and Elaine Morgan of Mesa, Arizona. Funeral Services will be on Tuesday, February 6, 2001 at 1 PM at The Cranston Funeral Home, 300 Shipley St, Seaford, where friends may call on Monday evening from 7 to 9 PM. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Seaford.

Massie, Homer L.

Homer L. Massie Sr., 74, of Camden, died on Wednesday March 21 at Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was born in Tams, West Virginia, and had resided in Delaware for many years. Mr. Massie entered the service in 1945, serving in the Air Force for 32 years. He retired in 1977 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His first wife, Violet Massie, died in 1989. He is survived by his wife of 6 years, Thelma Massie, at home; 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Homer and Darlene Massie Jr., of Clayton; Randy and Linda Massie, of Elkton, Md.; and Guy and Sandy Massie, of Clayton; 3 daughters, Gail Cannon, of Smyrna; Pamela Cleck and her husband Edward, of Hampton, Va.; and Tamie Holden, of Dover; 11 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. Services will be held 9:30 AM Monday March 26 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call Sunday evening from 7-9:00 PM. Interment with military honors will be held 11:00 AM Monday at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Delaware Hospice Inc., 911 S.
