Scharp, Marie R.
Marie R. Scharp, 86, of North Wilmington, died at Forwood Manor on February 14, 2001 after a brief illness
Mrs. Scharp was a member of St. Helena’s Catholic Church and the Sellers Senior Center. Her husband, Charles G. Scharp, died in 1957.
She is survived by a son, Charles J. Scharp, a daughter, Mary Ann Pierce, both of Wilmington, and five grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 17 at 10:30 am at St. Helena’s Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Bellefonte, where friends may call after 10:00 am. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Compassionate Care Hospice, 623 W. Newport Pike, Wilmington, DE 19804. Arrangements by Mealey Funeral Homes.
Schotte, Konstanza
Konstanza “Connie” Schotte, 66, of Smyrna, formerly of Keysville, Va., Little Ferry, NJ, and Howell, NJ, died on Tuesday February 20 at home. She was born in Romania and immigrated to the United States in 1956. Mrs. Schotte had owned a cleaning business while living in Howell, NJ, and had later worked for the Howell School District. She moved with her late husband to Virginia in 1989. Mrs. Schotte attended First Presbyterian Church, Smyrna, and enjoyed cooking. Her husband of 43 years, Hans B. Schotte, died in 1999. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Anita and John Cooper, of Smyrna; 3 brothers, Stefan Kutschera, of Palm Coast, Fla.; Johann Kutschera, of Little Ferry, NJ.; and George Kutschera, of New Milford, NJ.; 2 sisters, Martha Cebulski, of Dumont, NJ.; and Maria Niebuhr, of Point Pleasant Beach, N.J.; and 3 granddaughters, Rebecca, Jessica, and Tasha Cooper, all of Smyrna. Memorial Services will be held 12:00 PM Saturday February 24 at First Presbyterian Church, 118 W. Commerce St., Smyrna.
Interment will be private. Contributions may be sent to either: First Presbyterian Church, 118 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, De. 19977 or to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, De. 19901. Arrangements were by Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, Smyrna.
Madeline M. Scott
Age 83 of Wilmington, DE died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, after a long illness. Madeline was born in Jersey City, NJ and came to DE in 1956. She was a lifelong homemaker, who enjoyed playing the piano, listening to music, and reading. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Leroy V. Scott; her daughter and son-in-law, Linda S. And Tony Micucio; and her granddaughter, Andrea Scott Micucio, all of Wilmington; and her 2 nieces, Mary Gagliano and Ruth Conner, both of Lighthouse Point, FL. The funeral service and burial will be held privately. ETHEL P. SEWARD
Age 90 of Sandtown Road, Felton, DE, died Wednesday, December 27, 2000 at Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford, DE.
Mrs. Seward was a housewife and helped her husband with the farm they owned near Frederica while raising her family. She was later employed at different times for three companies; Playtex, Delaware Mills and ILC. She was a member of God’s Missionary Church in Felton.
Mrs. Seward was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Seward, Sr., in 1984.
She is survived by a son, Robert J. Seward, Jr. of Viola, DE, 2 daughters; Anne S. Creed of Frederica, DE and Norma Lee Messick of Milford, DE, a brother, Wilson Pratt of Frederica, DE, a sister, Betty Sherwood of Milford, DE, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.
The service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, January 2, 2001 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, DE where friends may call 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica, DE.

Sewert, Verna Louise
DOVER, DELAWARE -- Verna Louise Sewert formerly of York, PA, died Thursday, March 22, 2001 in Westminster Village, Dover, Delaware, where she lived for the past four years. She was 94. Mrs. Sewert was born in Jamestown, New York, on June 17, 1906, daughter of the late Charles Werner Scott and Anna Louise Johnson. She attended the New York School of Fine and Applied Art (Parsons) from 1927-1929. Mrs. Sewert married William F. Sewert on June 23, 1931 and were married 65 years. She worked with fashion and fabric design and illustration in New York for several years after graduating from college. Before attending college Mrs. Sewert designed and painted 1700 kerchiefs for the West Point Graduation Hop in 1925 for the Studio Art Shop in Greenwich Village, New York. Mrs. Sewert was also an accomplished pianist and organist. She served as organist and choir director for Bethany Methodist Episcopal Church in Brooklyn, NY until November 1936. She exhibited and sold much of her water color and oil paintings of still life, seascapes and landscapes thru the York Art Association. Upon the death of her husband William F. Sewert, on April 4, 1997, Mrs. Sewert moved to Dover, Delaware to reside at Westminster Village. Mrs. Sewart is survived by her daughter Stephanie Louise Haufe and son-in-law Eric Richard Haufe of Camden, Delaware; two grandsons Richard Scott Haufe and William Carl Haufe both of Camden, Delaware. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 31 in the St. Andrews Church, 301 S. Ogontz Street, York, PA. Burial will be private. Sharpley, Paul F.
Paul F. Sharpley of Clayton, Delaware, died Saturday March 10, 2001 in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital Dover, Delaware. He was 59. Mr. Sharpley was born January 3, 1942 in Wilmington, Delaware, the son of the late Paul and Mary Bader Sharpley. Mr. Sharpley worked for the Bureau of Fire for the City of Wilmington and later became an EMT for Professional Ambulance Service formerly of Dover, Delaware. He later owned and operated Metal Recyclers out of his home in Clayton. He served in the United States Navy and was a member of the David C. Harrison Post #14 in Smyrna, Delaware. He was an avid camper and enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James E. Sharpley. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Patricia Zieber Sharpley; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Karen A. and Glen Divel of Houston, Delaware and Kim P. and Wayne Case of Clayton, Delaware; 1 brother, Joseph “Jody” Sharpley of Wilmington, Delaware and 1 sister, Mary Lou Houghton of Wilmington, Delaware; 2 grandchildren, Paul and Christopher Divel of Houston, Delaware. Services will be Wednesday March 14, 2001 at 1PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware, where friends may call 1 hour before services. Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park Dover, Delaware. Shepard, Pauline V.
PAULINE VIRGINIA "Ginny" SHEPARD, of Dover died Friday, February 23, 2001 in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 82. Mrs. Shepard was born August 22, 1918 in Georgetown, the daughter of the late Oath and Ida Mae Carmean. She was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during World War II. She worked as a bookkeeper in Philadelphia. Mrs. Shepard was a member of the Millsboro and Philadelphia American Legion Posts. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Shepard. She is survived by two sons, Ronald Thomas of Bensalem, PA, and Gary Thomas of Seaford, formerly of York, Pa; two daughters, Kathleen Hastings of Seaford and Karen Keough of Magnolia; and 13 grandchildren. Bertha B. Sheppard, 94, New Hope Rd., Willards, passed away Friday March 23, 2001 at Chancellor Care Nursing Home Delmar.
She was born on April 21, 1906 in Zephyr to John and Emmaline (Isaccs) Bryant.
Mrs. Sheppard was a volunteer at the Dover Modern Maturity Center, she helped to make easter baskets for the Governors easter egg hunt. She also volunteered at the Cheswold Methodist Church. She enjoyed quilting for the Lions Club in Willards, MD. She is preceed in death by her husband Thomas G. Sheppard and a brother Iven Bryat..
She is survived by Son, Roby L. Sheppard of Mineral, VA. Daughter and her husband, Avalon and Don Rentz of Salisbury, MD. Salisbury-Louise Rebecca Shockley, 60, of Salisbury, died Tuesday, February 27, 2001 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center. Born on September 11,1940 in Preston, MD she was the daughter of the late Louise Lord McGrath and Walter William Schevel. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, James D. Shockley, seven sons; Ronald W. Covey and his wife Diane of Valdesta, FL, James H. Shockley of Salisbury, David Shockley and his wife Rosemary of Salisbury, Michael E. Shockley and his wife Theresa of Fruitland, Richard A. Shockley and his wife Jacqueline of Quantico, Gregory T. Shockley and his wife Mari of Salisbury, and Russell W. Shockley and his wife Denise of Mardela Springs, eight grandchildren;Christopher D., Jamie D., Katie Marie, and Sarah E. Shockley all of Salisbury, Jenny Lynne and Ryan Lee Shockley both of Mardela Springs, Rebecca E. Short, Floyd M.
Floyd Manlough “Pappy” Short of Camden died Wednesday, February 28, 2001 in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 92.
Mr. Short was born on January 21, 1909 in Lebanon, Delaware to the late Wilmer Francis and Julia Bostic Short.
He worked as a troubleshooter in the maintenance and repair department of Latex for 29 years, retiring in 1971.
Mr. Short was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps serving his country during WWII as a Bombardier flying a B-17 over Italy.
He enjoyed deep-sea fishing and reading.
Mr. Short is survived by his wife of 54 years, Agnes Elizabeth Short; a son and his wife, Floyd Michael Short & Susan of Lewes, DE; a daughter and her husband, Laura Lester and Charles of Lincoln University, PA; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Sharp and her husband Tom, Kristina Lester, Charlene Lester, and Chad Lester, all of the Lincoln University area; and a nephew, Robert Short of Baltimore, MD.
Funeral Services will be held 1PM Saturday, March 3, 2001 in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd., Dover. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

She was born on March 17, 1914 in Brooklyn, NY to Rocco and Josephine (Lemmo) Siconolfi.
She was a Life time resident of 318 5th Street, South Brooklyn until suffering a stroke in 1998 and moving to Dover to be closer to relatives. seals person in the silver department for the former Abraham & Strauss Department Store in downtown Brooklyn for many years retring in 1977. She was a devoted, generous aunt to her many nieces and nephews, an independent person, avid traveler and active member of her parish, Our Lady of Peace in Brooklyn. Harry J. Simpson, Sr.
Age 87 died Friday, March 30, 2001 in the Christiana Hospital. Born in Stanton, DE, he lived most of his life in the Wilmington area. He retired from the Wilmington Finishing Company in 1974 as a froeman. In 1989 he retired a second time from Widener University security and was then employed by Stonegates until 1994. At the age of 80, he decided to relax, enjoy life and his garden. His wife Violet M. Simpson died in 1963 and his son, Raymond M. Simpson died in 1996. He is survived by his son, Harry J. Simpson, Jr. of Wilmington; daughters-in-law, Jean Simpson, and Barbara Simpson; 3 grandchildren, Raymond M. Simpson, Jr. of Bear, Sharon Hendricks of New Castle and Harry J. Simpson, III of Newark; and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 brothers, John J. Simpson of vilone village and Thomas W. Simpson of Jamesburg, NJ and a sister, Harriet Bedwell of Hartly, DE.
