JAMES B. STIMPSON
DOVER -- James B. Stimpson, of Dover, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 63. Mr. Stimpson was born in North Carolina, son of the late Ester Brown and John F. Stimpson. He served in the United States Air Force achieving the rank of Tech Sargeant. Mr. Stimpson retired with 20 years service in 1976. After leaving the Air Force he was employed with the Capitol School Distrist with Grounds and Maintenance retiring in 1990. He was a member of the American Legion, Walter L. Fox Post. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Elnor Ann Stimpson, his twin brother Richard Stimpson of Winston Salem, NC and another brother John F. Stimpson of Blackburg, VA, two nephews Samuel Stimpson and Andy Stimpson both of Winston Salem, NC. Committal services will be held at 11:00 a.m. today (Friday) in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Chesapeake City Road, Bear. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to American Heart Association of Kent County, P.O. Box 1977, Dover, DE 19903-1977 or Juvenile Diabetes Foundation First State Chapter, Suite 1103, 100 W. Tenth Street, Wilmington, DE 19801. Stoker III, James "J.D." Douglass
Age: 13 Address: Andrewsville, DE Died at: A.I. DuPont Childrens Hospital of a Respiratory arrest brought on by an asthma attack.
Background: J.D. was an eighth grade student at Woodbridge Jr. High School, Bridgeville. J.D. was a lifelong member of Woodbridge Little League, and a member of the soccer team. At home, J.D. was a dedicated little farmer and animal raiser. He will be remembered as a caring person who always put others first above himself, and someone who loved everybody he met. J.D. will be sorely missed by his loving family, friends, and classmates.

Stombaugh, Richard William
Richard William Stombaugh of Waldorf, Maryland, formerly of Dover, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at . He was 78.
Mr. Stombaugh was born in Portage, PA on September 30, 1922 to the late Stombaugh.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. He retired in 1970 after serving his country for over 26 years. While in the service, his decorations included the Air Force commendation Medal.
Mr. Stombaugh was an active member of the American Legion Walter L. Fox Post #2 and had often volunteered his time at Dover Air Force Base. After moving to Waldorf, he volunteered at the Andrews Air Force Base.
He enjoyed crabbing and fishing the waters of Delaware and Maryland. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Stombaugh was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Pearl Stombaugh in 1992, a son David Stombaugh, and a grandson, David Stombaugh.
He is survived by a daughter, Wendy S. Faulkner of Smyrna; four sons, Richard A. Stombaugh of Harrington, Donald R. Stombaugh of Newport, Timothy E. Stombaugh of Dover, and Thomas E. Stombaugh of Harrisburg, PA; two brothers, Alvin Stombaugh of Blue Knob, PA and Dave Stombaugh of Florida; two sisters, Rhea Costello of Portage, PA and Iris Snare of East Freedom, PA; seven grandchildren, Jennifer C. Faulkner, Randy Faulkner, Robin Stombaugh, Andrew Stombaugh, Alexis Stombaugh, Brandon Stombaugh, and Amberly Stombaugh; and his companion, Doris Hendley of Waldorf, MD.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2001 in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Delaware Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
Strazzella, Caroline L.
Caroline L. Strazzella, 84, of Woodcrest, died at St. Francis Hospital on Wednesday, March 14, 2001.
Mrs. Strazzella was a homemaker and one of the original charter members of Mid-County Senior Center where she enjoyed singing in the chorus. Her husband, Alfonse Strazzella, died in 1993.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol Claudfelter of Wilmington, and Sandra Clarkin and her husband, Peter, of Newark; five grandchildren, Kimberly Hayles of England, Kathleen Mason of Newark, Kelly Claudfelter of Annapolis, MD, Jennifer Wiant of Newark and Peter Clarkin, Jr. of Bear; four great grandchildren, Louis, Rebecca, Matthew and Joseph; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 19, at 10:00 am at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, where friends may call after 9 am. Interment will be at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.
Summers, Genevieve
Genevieve Summers, age 79, of Bridgeville, De died on Wednesday, February 14, 2001 at home of heart failure. Mrs. summers was an active member of St Mary’s Episcopal Church in Bridgeville. She was a member of the Homemakers Club, Garden Club and Book Club in Bridgeville. She donated generously of her time and money to many local charities in Bridgeville. She is survived her husband Alex J. Summers, 2 sons, Christopher Eckhoff of Brooklyn, NY and Gene Eckhoff of Brattleboro, VT, 1 daughter, Diane Soifer of Philadelphia, 2 step-sons, Alan Summers of Westminster, MD and Brian Summers of Katonah, NY. She is also survived by a sister, Willamina Chadbourne of Jacksonville, FL and 3 grandchildren. A memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 18th at 5 PM at St Mary’s Episcopal Church, Williams St, Bridgeville. Swavely, Paul
Paul R. Swavely of Smyrna died Wednesday, February 28, 2001 in the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically in Smyrna. He was 84.
Mr. Swavely was born in Chester, Pennsylvania on April 23, 1916. He graduated from Girard College in Philadelphia in 1934. He moved to Delaware 10 years ago to be closer to his daughter.
He worked as a machinist for Westinghouse in Lester, PA for over 30 years and retired in 1982.
Mr. Swavely is survived by his daughter, Patricia McMaster of Harrington; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held 12 Noon Monday, March 5, 2001 in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be private.

Tarr, Carol Rose
Hebron: Carol Rose Tarr, 39, of Hebron died on Monday January 1, 2001 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born in Salisbury on April 20, 1961 she was the daughter of Helen Dunn of Salisbury and the late Richard Dean Truitt. Carol attended James M. Bennett High School. She was currently employed at Pittsville Diner. She also had been a waitress for many years at English’s restaurant. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband and longtime companion, Merrill T. Tarr of Hebron, two daughters, Ceiara R. Tarr and Victoria R. Tarr, both at home, two brothers, Richard “R.D.” Truitt of Delmar, and Larry Truitt of Salisbury, three sisters, Rebecca Harrell of Willards, Cindy Shores of Salisbury, and Patti Pruitt of Westover, maternal grandparents, Ferman and Maggie Ruark of Salisbury, several other family members and many friends. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 2:00 P.M. at the Bounds Funeral Home on E. Main St. in Salisbury where friends and family may call one hour prior to the service. Pastor William B. Cropper will officiate. Interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery in Willards. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ceiara R. Tarr and Victoria R. EDITH “TENA” H. TAYLOR
Age 88 of Milford, DE, died Sunday, January 28, 2001 at Milford Center, Milford, DE.
Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker. She was a member of Avenue United Methodist Church and the Mary Circle, the Milford Garden Club, the AARP and the Harrington Century Club.
Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Taylor, in 1979.
She is survived by a son, John W. Taylor of Hudson, NH, two daughters; Christine T. Chappelle of Chappaqua, NY and Nancy Poinsett of Milford, DE, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2001 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, DE, where the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Barratts Chapel Cemetery, Frederica, DE.

Taylor Sr., Melville C.
Melville C. Taylor Sr., age 87, of Harrington, died at Bayhealth Medical Center – Milford Memorial Hospital on Sunday, March 11, 2001.
Mr. Taylor was an avid ball player in high school. As a member of the Eastern Shore Baseball League, he was given the nickname “Homerun Taylor”. His skill of baseball was so great, he could tell where the ball was going the second the ball hit the bat. After farming a number of years, Mr. Taylor and Joseph Konesey became partners in 1947 and began selling Kaiser and Frazier automobiles which later became Taylor Motors until 1954. In 1955 and 1956, Mr. Taylor served as Assistant Chief Clerk in the House of Representatives. In 1957, he became a state highway inspector and later became the Supervisor of the State Highway Maintenance Yard in Harrington, retiring from the Highway Department in 1975. After retiring, he and his wife Mary managed Drexel Court Motel in Land of Lakes, Florida which they had purchased several years before retiring. He finally retired fully at the age of 70. Mr. Taylor has been a member of the Harrington Lions Club for over 50 years, a lifetime associates member of the Harrington Fire Co., a charter member of the Harrington Moose Lodge, a member of Prospect United Methodist Church, and an associate member of the First United Methodist Church in Land of Lakes, Florida. His favorite hobby during retirement was playing golf.
Preceded in death by his parents C. Arthur Taylor and Mae L. Taylor, a son William C. Taylor, a brother Leonard A. Taylor, and a sister Catherine Donovan.
Survivors:
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mary Wright Taylor of Harrington; a son and his wife, Charles and Kathleen Taylor of Harrington; a daughter and her husband, Edna Mae and Anthony Gallo of Harrington; a brother, J. Edward Taylor of Harrington; 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Services will be Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at 1:00 PM at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Family and friends may call two hours prior to the service. The Rev. Jack Gowan of the Prospect United Methodist Church will officiate. Internment will be at the Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington.
