Cressey, Margie B.

Margie B. Cressey of Dover passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. She was 78.

She was born on November 29, 1931 in Dover, Delaware, daughter of the late Earl and Lillian (Gourley) Davis.

Margie had worked for the State of Delaware. She enjoyed going to yard sales, slots and the beach.

She was a member of the Modern Maturity Center, Harrington Moose and AARP.

Margie is survived by her daughter Judith Smith and her husband William of Felton, granddaughter Kimberly Edwards and her husband Moir of Smyrna, a great granddaughter Jade Edwards and a very close friend Paul Sikorski of Dover.

Graveside service will be 11:00 am Saturday, August 28 at Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

Sullivan, James Charles

James Charles "Jim" Sullivan., 80, of Warsaw North Carolina, formerly of Dover Delaware, died Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Goldsboro, North Carolina.

Jim was born on December 3, 1929 in Marshall County, Kentucky, the son of Elmer Dyre Sullivan and Annie Marie (Stringer) Sullivan.

Jim was a warehouse supervisor at Green Giant Company in Woodside for many years. He was a Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean War and served as State Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a charter member of the Camden-Wyoming Moose Lodge.

He is survived by his mother Annie Marie Sullivan of Dover, wife Patricia of Warsaw, N.C. his three sons Richie Sullivan and wife Eleanor of Felton, Jim Sullivan and wife Debbie of Felton, Patrick Sullivan and his wife Jeaneen of Harrington, six grandchildren Matthew Fox, Jedediah Sullivan, Katland Sullivan, Justin Sullivan, Laurel Sullivan, and Jacob Sullivan.

Services will be at noon Monday, August 30 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may gather beginning at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, 18251 Quantico Gateway Dr., Triangle, VA 22172 or a charity of your choice.

Skaggs, Ret. U.S. Navy Lt. Comm. Jerold Frank

Retired U.S. Navy Lt. Commander Jerold Frank Skaggs "Jerry" who spent his childhood and young adulthood in Montana passed away Monday, August 23, 2010 after a courageous battle of prostate cancer and complications from a stroke.

Born in Billings, Montana on August 27, 1936, Jerry lived in Magnolia, for the past eight years. Before moving here, he lived in East Millstone, NJ for 15 years, and 11 years in South Plainfield, NJ. He graduated from Montana State University and then joined the Navy where he served his country proudly. He retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander in 1982 after serving for 23 years. Throughout his 23 year career, he was stationed in Japan, Guam, and both Pacific and Atlantic coasts and was a Surface Warfare Officer on ships which operated in the Atlantic, Caribbean, Mediterranean and the Pacific. He owned a Lawn Doctor of Mountainside/Cranford/NJ business for 11 years before fully retiring in 1993.

Jerry loved gardening, enjoyed NASCAR, and watching football, always rooting for the Navy teams. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.

He was a member of the American Legion and Retired Officers Association.

His first wife of 24 years LaVonne, died in 1985.

Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Anita Skaggs, his daughter Wendy Beleno of Great Meadows, NJ, his son Mark Skaggs and his wife Laura of Lucas, Texas and son Christopher Skaggs and his wife Marycarol of Havre de Grace, MD, two sisters, Patricia Nile of Forsyth, MT, and Sue Ellen Goosey and husband Erin of Naples, Florida and brother Robert Skaggs and wife Sharon Billings, MT. He also leaves three stepchildren, Kevin Berezansky of Phillisburg, NJ, Douglas Berezansky and wife Lisa of Berlin, NJ and Stephen Berezanksy and wife Karen of Newark, DE. He also leaves 17 grandchildren, Heather, Alex, Ben, Jack, Sam, Sophie, Mitchell, Daniela, Andrea, Tara, Ian, Joe Ryan, Jenna, Andrew, Stephen, Zachary whom he loved dearly.

Services are private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Silver Lake Center, 1080 Silver Lake Blvd., Dover, DE 19901.

Sadiq, George

George Sadiq of Dover passed away Saturday, August 21, 2010 in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 74.

He was born on March 1, 1936 in Pakistan, son of the late Mehri and Masih Sadiq.

George worked for Civil Service at the Dover Air Force Base in logistics retiring at the age of 65. After retirement, he owned an import/export business specializing in oriental rugs and antiques.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years Erika Sadiq, a son Major Thomas Sadiq of the United States Air Force and his wife of Severn, MD and a daughter Ursula Sadiq of San Francisco, CA and many friends and acquaintances.

Services are private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to CARE at CARE.org to help victims of the flood in Pakistan.

Arrangements handled by Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming.

Smith, Mary G.

Mary G. Smith passed away Friday, August 20, 2010 at Westminster Health Center, Dover. She was 91.

She was born on October 11, 1918 in Souix Falls, SD, daughter of the late Blaine and Florence (Rice) Niester.

Gail had several lifetime passions. She loved to travel, and visited every state with her husband and much of eastern and western Europe with her sister, Laurel Piippo. Her last trip was to Switzerland and Germany at age 84. She was also a strong supporter of the arts and history, especially music. Several of her trips were for the purpose of enjoying opera, taking historical tours, or learning more about music. Her last such trip was to the Peabody institute of Music at age 88 for a piano appreciation Elderhostel.

She was also a lifetime bridge player, starting with her college days. This interest continued throughout her life, and she greatly enjoyed playing bridge at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover. She was able to continue to play at 91. Finally, one never saw her without a book in hand. She instilled her love of reading in all of her family. Her ability to remain engaged in all of her interests will remain an inspiration to everyone who knew her.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband John R. Smith and sons Blaine Smith and Gregory Smith and a granddaughter Debra Brown

Mary is survived by a daughter Barbara Brown and her husband Kirk of Camden, granddaughter, Kelly Brown of Arlington, VA, Heather and Olivia Smith of Herfordshire, England.

Services will be 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 25, at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call from 6 pm until service time.

Graveside service will be 11 am Friday, August 27 in Riverside Cemetery, Painsville, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brain Injury Association of Delaware, P.O. Box 1897, Dover, DE 19903.

Almon, Tracey Thwaites

Tracey Lynne Thwaites Almon of Dover passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 44.

She was born on November 2, 1965 in Dover, Delaware. She graduated from Caesar Rodney High School, Class of 1983, where she played field hockey.

Tracey had worked as a ward clerk at Christiana Hospital for 10 years. Prior to working at the hospital, she worked for several doctors in the Dover area.

She enjoyed scrap booking, playing games and loved family gatherings.

Tracey is preceded in death by her niece Jessie April Thwaites in 2003.

She is survived by her parents Ed and Linda (Foster) Thwaites of Dover, a sister Jane Lee of Dover, and three brothers Eddie Thwaites, Tim Thwaites and Danny Thwaites all of Dover.

Services were held privately at the family residence.
