Gray, W. Hollis

W. Hollis Gray of Marydel, De passed away on July 16, 2010, one day after his 82nd birthday, in Kent General Hospital with his family and friends by his bedside.

Hollis was the son of the late Charles and Mary Gray of Camden, DE.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Hollis joined the Camden-Wyoming Fire Co. at the age of 16, where he served for several years. After moving to Marydel, he joined their department. As a member of Marydel, he served as president, member of the Board of Directors and Fire Policeman. He was honored by the Delaware Volunteer Firemen's Association for 50+ years of service in September 2009. He was a past Marydel Town Commissioner, serving several terms as Mayor. He also served on the Caroline County Council of Governments and was the Scout Master of Troop 338 in Marydel for several years and a member and past president of the Kent Coin Club.

He was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan from an early age, always standing by his teams no matter how dismal their seasons.

Hollis was an avid crafter and enjoyed doing craft shows. He enjoyed making crafts from beads and took great pleasure in giving them to people he met. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Hollis was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Elsie in 2007, two brothers Charles and Joseph and three sisters Pauline Shumway, Sallie McCall and Nelly Felty.

He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law Sandra and Leslie States of Marydel, Sharon and Allen Barr of Marydel and son Clyde Ware Jr. and his special friend Diana Farrell of Dover, sister-in-law Dorothy Kaufman of Denton, MD, grandchildren Sheila DiRocco and husband Steve, Hollie Parker and husband Eric, Gregory States, and Dawn Barr all of Marydel, Kimberly States Enss, Ryan Ware and Rachel LaBlanc of Dover, 10 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Marydel-Hartly Little League, P.O. Box 204, Marydel, MD 21649.

Deegan, Kenneth James

Kenneth James Deegan, 50, of Lancaster, PA, formerly of Dover, died Wednesday, July 14, 2010. He was born April 26, 1960 in West Point, NY.

Ken liked to go through life breaking a few rules, but he had a heart of gold and would have given a stranger his last dollar. He will be missed by his family and his many friends.

His parents, Bernard and Josephine Deegan, precede Mr. Deegan in death.

He is survived by two sisters and their husbands, Bernadette and Bill Frantz of Elizabethtown, PA and Kathleen and Dan Vivier of Carlsbad, CA. Mr. Deegan is also survived by his niece and nephews, Matthew and Michael Frantz, and Sophia, Benjamin, and Joshua Vivier, all at home.

Ken is also survived by a close family friend, Charlie Russum, who was like a brother to him.

Friends may call 7-9 pm Wednesday, July 21, at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Thursday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State St., Dover. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to American Diabetes Association, 100 West 10th St. Suite 1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.

Daniels, Elizabeth

Elizabeth Daniels, 82, of Townsend passed away Monday, July 12, 2010 in her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on July 7, 1928 in Wilmington, Delaware, daughter of the late Nicholas and Clara (Biddle) Barlow.

Elizabeth was a homemaker and enjoyed reading the Bible, singing and taking care of children.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Albert K, Daniels, Sr.

She is survived by her sons Albert Daniels, Jr. of Townsend, John Daniels of Cheswold, Nicholas Daniels of Clayton and Jeffrey Daniels, Sr. of Millington, MD, daughters Laura Mae Hollinger of Felton, Rebecca Ross of Chocowinity, NC, Sally Missimer of Elkton, MD, Margie Meekins of Townsend and Ida Simmons of Clayton, 19 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren and several siblings.

Service will be 12 noon Friday, July 16 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, DE, where friends may gather two hours earlier. Burial will follow in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Vitas Hospice, 100 Commerce Dr., Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713.

Heckerman, Bradley W.

Bradley W. Heckerman, 30, of Wyoming passed away Monday, July 12, 2010 at Kent General Hospital, Dover.

He was born on September 28, 1979 in Lynchburg, VA.

Bradley enjoyed being on the water and was presently working on a crab boat. He enjoyed music, dancing, DJ'ing, and fishing.

He is preceded in death by his father Steven L. Heckerman.

He is survived by his mother Brenda Messing and her husband William E. Messing III, six children Sierra, Joie, Elissa, Daprese, Ayden and Caleb, twin brother Steven Heckerman, sister Charlene Heckerman, his extended family of siblings William Messing, IV, Stephanie Bohannick and Tonya McDonald, maternal grandmother Charlotte Snyder and paternal grandfather William J. Maslin and several aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family of friends.

Services will be 7:00 pm Saturday, July 17, at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where visitation will be two hours earlier. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, family is requesting donations to the funeral home to help with expenses.

Saini, Patricia Ann

Patricia Ann Saini, 54 of Ellendale, Delaware passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010 at Christiana Care Medical Center in Christiana, Delaware surrounded by family. Funeral Services will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Mt. Zion AME Church in Ellendale, Delaware where friends may call one hour prior to funeral services. Interment will be in Mt. Zion AME Church Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Pippin Funeral Home and Crematorium of Wyoming, Delaware.

Courtright, Ruth Ingram

Ruth Ingram Courtright passed away July 9, 2010. Ruth was born in Viola, DE January 4, 1923.

In the early 1940's Ruth worked for the State Treasurers Office, Delaware State Police and the State Auditor's Office. She also worked Civil Service at Dover Air Force Base until the late 1950's. In the mid 1980's she worked as casual/seasonal position with the Division of Motor Vehicle.

Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, the late Pauline W. Ingram and Raymond D. Ingram who was one of the original four troopers in establishment of the Delaware State Police in 1920, her sister, the late Helene a. Ingram in 2009 and her brother the late William D. Ingram in 1986.

Ruth is survived by her daughter Helene A. Courtright Madden of Camden, two granddaughters, Helene A. Miller of Dover and Nicole R. Morris of Marydel, three great granddaughters, Alexis Miller and Olivia Miller of Dover and Courtney Morris of Marydel, two nieces, Sandra Handy of Seaford and Paula Remington of Middletown and numerous friends.

Ruth was dearly loved not only by her family but her special friend and caregiver Mrs. Robin Carey and family with whom she lived.

Graveside service will be 11:00 am Thursday, July 15 at Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901.

Rooks, William H.

William H. Rooks, 73, of Dover passed away Sunday, July 4, 2010 in his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on September 14, 1936 in Whiteville, NC, son of the late Glaydes L. (Taylor) and James A. Rooks Sr.

William honorably retired from the U.S. Air Force after 30 years of service in 1983 with the rank of CMSGT.

He enjoyed fishing and working on cars. William will be remembered as a dedicated husband, soldier and father.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Lois Rooks, two daughters Debra Kay Rooks of Germany, Denise Lorraine Rooks of Dover and a son William H. Rooks, Jr. of China, a brother Doug Rooks of NC, a sister Dot Reed of VA, five grandchildren Christina L. Singleton of Dover, Joshua D. Klahn of Marietta, GA, Rachel C. Klahn of GA, Ashley M. Singleton of Wilmington and Kristin M. Klahn of Hawaii and many nephews and nieces.

Services will be 12:30 pm Thursday, July 8 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may gather one hour before services. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Capitol Baptist Church, 401 Kesslering Ave., Dover, DE 19904.
