Margaret A. Cook,

Margaret A. Cook, 62, of Millsboro, died of complications as a result of a car accident Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, on Delaware 24.
Mrs. Cook was born in Upland, Pa., the daughter of the late Elmer and Margaret Martz. She resided in Claymont before moving to Millsboro 21 years ago.
She worked in Food Lion as a deli clerk.
Mrs. Cook raised two of her grandchildren, Christine Brady and Sgt. Robert T. Houser Jr. She also enjoyed spending a great deal of time with her grandson, Matthew A. Cook.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert H. Cook Sr., in 1992; and a sister, Eileen Titerence, in 1995.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Albert H. and Karen Cook of Milton; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Michael Cardenas of Millsboro; two sisters and brothers-in-law, June and Lester McLauren of Middletown, Pa. and Barbara and Peter Ferrara of Middletown; a brother, James Martz of Elkton, Md.; a granddaughter, Christine Brady; two grandsons, Robert T. Houser Jr. and Matthew H. Cook; six great-grandchildren; and 11 nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at noon, Tuesday in Minshall-Shropshire Funeral Home, Middletown and Knowlton Roads, Middletown, Pa., where friends may call one hour earlier. Burial will be in Lawn Croft cemetery , Linwood, Pa.
Kenneth Ray Dorman,
worked for M.L. Joseph
Kenneth Ray Dorman, 65, of Lewes, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md.
Mr. Dorman was born in Lewes, son of the late Carlton and Almeta Davidson Dorman.
He served in the Army National Guard in Lewes.
He had worked as a heavy equipment operator for the M.L. Joseph Construction Company, Georgetown.
He was a member of Conley’s Chapel United Methodist Church, Angola.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Pat; a son, Kenneth Ray Dorman II of Seaford; four daughters, Terri A. Rogers and Marlene D. Harmon, both of Millsboro, Kelly L. Dorman of Lewes, and Dawn R. Dorman of Fenwick Island; and five grandchildren, Travis, Liberty, Kenneth Ray, Cruz and Luke.
Services were held in Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, with burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Millsboro.
David J. Gardoski,
active in church
David J. Gardoski, 57, of Quakertown, Pa., died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, in Valley Manor Nursing Home, Springfield Township.
Mr. Gardoski was born in Scranton, son of Chester and Helen Engates Gardoski of Lewes.
He was employed with the former Nation’s Credit Bank, Allentown, for several years before retiring. Previously he worked at Red Hill Ford and Schiethauer Chevrolet.
Mr. Gardoski was a member of the Lighthouse Gospel Fellowship. Pennsburg, where he was active as a treasurer, finance committee and on the church board. He was also involved with the Yoke Fellowship Prison Ministry, Promise Keeper, Everlasting Life Ministries and as a coordinator of the Lehigh Valley Angel Tree.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sara Gardoski.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years. Marianne Miller Gardoski; his parents, Chester and Helen Engates Gardoski of Lewes; two daughters and a son-in-law, Tara and Joseph Nuyianes of West Norriton, Pa. and Kate Gardoski of Quakertown; a brother, John Gardoski of Lewes; and a sister, Gloria Stokes of Phillipsburg, N.J.
Services were held in the Lighthouse Gospel Fellowship, Pennsburg. Burial will be in the Limerick Garden of Memories.

Chester Burr Knapp Jr.,
retired from Scott Paper
Chester Burr Knapp Jr., 69, of Vineland, N.J., and formerly of Milton, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, after a long illness, in Newcomb Hospital, Vineland.
Mr. Knapp, while living in Milton, worked at Cargill, now Allen Foods, in Harbeson. He was also employed with Scott Paper Co., retiring in 1998.
Mr. Knapp was a devoted member of Revival Fellowship Church in Bridgeton, where he was an evangelist and deacon. During his 21-year membership at the church, he was involved in outreach ministries at the Cumberland County Prison System, the Blind Center and the Cumberland Manor Nursing Center.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Corrine Knapp; eight sons, Chester B. Knapp III of Dover, Thomas A. Knapp of Milton, Charles E. Knapp of Seaford, Jonathan E. Knapp of Philadelphia, Arthur A. Knapp of Frederica, Naval officer George S. Knapp of San Antonio; and Ronnie Charleston and Randy Charleston, both of Vineland; four daughters, Helena Knapp of Milton, Edna Peterson of Lincoln, Tracy Miles of Mays Landing, N.J. and Renee Charleston of Vineland; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Anne Knapp of White Plains, N.Y.; his mother-in-law, Ola Mae Johnson of Vineland; 22 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law; and a host of other in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Memorial services were held in the Revival Fellowship Church, 70 Sharp Street, Bridgeton, with burial in Vineland.
Irene J. Kelley,
retired cosmetologist
Irene J. Kelley, 84, of Milton and formerly of Wilmington, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at Beebe Medical Center.
Mrs. Kelley was born in Arkansas City, Kan., the daughter of the late J. Bert and Flonire Marie Burley Hughes. She moved to Milton three years ago from Wilmington. She enjoyed going to casinos and especially spending time with her family. She was a cosmetologist for Palmroys in Wilmington for 10 years before retiring in 1980.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Kelley, in 1976.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Barker of Milton; a daughter, Judy Scribner, and husband, Scott, of Grangeville, Idaho; five grandchildren, Valarie Vasquez, Carl Barker Jr., Matt Scribner, Carrie Scribner and Jeanie Scribner; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Services will be at noon, Monday, Dec. 6, at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton.
Sherry Johnson German,
devoted homemaker
Sherry Yvonne Johnson German, 47, of Lewes and formerly of Georgetown, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at Beebe Medical Center.
Ms. German was a homemaker and devoted mother to her family.
She is survived by her parents, Myers Johnson Sr. of Milton and Esther Lee of Delmar, Md.; two sons, Harold W. German III and Ronald Wyatt German, both of Seaford; two daughters, Tabatha Ann German and Stephani Yvonne German, both of Seaford; two brothers, Myers Johnson Jr. of Seaford and John Wesley Johnson of Delmar, Md.; two sisters, Cheryl Botdorf of Seaford and Suzette Donovan of Bridgeville; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 6, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 307 N. Bedford St., Georgetown, with burial in King Family cemetery , Old Furnace Road, near Georgetown.

Robert L. Tjaden Sr.,

Robert L. Tjaden Sr., 79, of Wilmington, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004.
Bob served in the U.S. Navy during World War II with the Pacific Fleet. He was one of the first Navy Seabee units to arrive in Japan after the atomic bomb was dropped. He was a life insurance sales agent with Monumental Life Insurance Co., retiring in 1979 after 20 years.
He was a master Mason with St. John’s Lodge No. 2 and a 322nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason. Bob was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, fishing and traveling.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Anne Tjaden; his sons, Robert L. Tjaden Jr. and his wife Linda of Harrington; Keith A. Tjaden and his wife Sharon of Wilmington; is daughter, Cynthia A. Brown and her husband, Danny, of Rehoboth Beach; his brothers, Hiram Tjaden of Marshalltown and Granville Tjaden of Virginia; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Services were held at Doherty Funeral Home, Pike Creek, with burial in Delaware Veterans cemetery

Sean T. Monahan,

Sean T. Monahan, 47, of Ellenville, N.Y., a lifelong resident and former owner of Monahan’s Reef of Greenfield Park, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, in Kingston Hospital, New York.
Born Dec. 26, 1956, in Ellenville, he was the son of the late Robert and Gladys Laubner Monahan. He attended the Church of St. Mary and St. Andrew in Ellenville and was previously a waiter at the former Potpourri Restaurant in Rehoboth Beach.
He is survived by a sister, Patricia Allison and her husband, Carl, of Hurleyville, N.Y.; a brother, Michael Monahan and his wife, Connie, of Lewes; nieces and nephews, Tracey Hussey and her husband, Arthur, Kevin LeLand and his wife, Margaret, and Kristopher Allison; great-grandnephews, Jessica Hussey, Julia Leland and Gregory Leland; special friends, Debi Lambert and family; and many other special friends.

Thelma Grace (Harrell) Kester, 89, of Selbyville, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 2004, at the home of her son, William A. Kester.
Mrs. Kester was born in Pender County, N.C. and was a retired commercial insurance underwriter for E. Walter Helm Insurance Company of Media, Pa.
She was a member of Ocean View Presbyterian Church, Ocean View.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William G. Kester, in 2001.
She is survived by two sons, William A. Kester and his wife Carol of Bethany Beach; Robert W. Kester of Lincoln; four grandchildren, Kurt Kester and his wife Marybeth of Mansfield Township, N.J., Kimberly Friedman and her husband Les of Marlton, N.J.; Ryan McDonough and his wife Jennifer of Wisconsin, currently stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army, and Nick McDonough of Wisconsin; six great-grandchildren, Leanne Friedman, Nicolas and Karissa Kester, James, Nicholas and Jack McDonough.
Services were held at Ocean View Presbyterian Church, Ocean View, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Paul Dennis Phelan,

Paul Dennis Phelan, 58, of Lewes, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004, at home.
Mr. Phelan was born Aug. 12, 1946 in Washington, D.C. to the late James Thomas Phelan and the late Alice (Boschert) Phelan.
Mr. Phelan lived in Rehoboth Beach for 20 years; he was formerly of Washington, D.C. He worked as a taxi driver in Lewes and Rehoboth Beach. He was also a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his son David Howard of San Francisco, Calif. and three brothers, James Wentz Phelan of Jacksonville, Fla., John Phelan of New Rochelle, N.Y. and Patrick Phelan of Everett, Wash.
A memorial mass was held at St. Edmonds Catholic Church, Rehoboth Beach, with burial in St. Mary’s Catholic cemetery , St. Mary’s, Pa..

Hugh Timothy Collins Jr.,
oldest retired trooper
Hugh Timothy Collins Jr., 91 of Bridgeville, passed away Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004 at Milford Center, Milford. He was the oldest living retired Delaware State Trooper.
Hugh was born in Wilmington on Feb. 15, 1913, son of the late Laura (Hand) and Hugh T. Collins. He graduated from St. Ann’s Commercial High School in Wilmington and served in the United States Army from May 1943 to January 1946, a member of Company C, 543 rd Engineer and Shore Regiment in the Philippines. He received the American Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, and Good Conduct and Victory medals. Hugh was a member of the Delaware State Police from April 1938 to January 1963. He was a recruit of Delaware’s first State Police Academy. He retired as a captain and director of the Youth Division.
Hugh was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a past president of the Bridgeville Lions Club. He also was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Post 6, Seaford, Delaware. A devout Catholic, Hugh was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Seaford, for more than 60 years. From 1953-1956 he was the director of Camp Barnes on the Little Assawoman Bay, a camp for deserving children throughout the state, that provides them with an opportunity to experience life at a traditional summer youth camp. Hugh was a member of the Retired Delaware State Police Association.
In addition to his parents, his brothers John and James , and his sister Florence Collins
preceded him in death.
Hugh is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia (Taylor) Collins, of Bridgeville; his five children: H. Timothy Collins III and wife Gretchen of Fenwick Island, Mark T. and wife Debbie of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., C. Todd Collins and wife Donna of Jefferson, Md., Kate (Collins) Marvel and Harvey Marvel of Milford and H. Ray Collins of Bridgeville; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren: Stephen and Paula Collins and their children Aiden and Emma; Matt and Kathleen Collins and their children Brianna and Timothy; Brian Collins and Kirstan Bembenek; Katrin, Sara, and Bridget Casey, Jessica and Laura Collins; Meghan and Bryan Grimm, and Abbie, Ryan and Josh Marvel.
A mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Seaford, with interment with State Police honors in Our Lady of Lourdes cemetery , Blades
