Gentry, Marian Sue

Marian Sue Gentry, 61, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2010 in her home.

She was born on January 17, 1949 in Nashville, TN.

Sue had worked as a truck driver and later as a social worker for Shepherds Place, Dover.

She enjoyed tropical fish, her cats, video games, Native American History, bird watching, the Phillies, QVC, the Spanish Channel and traveling. Sue also loved gardening where her favorite flowers were simple white daisies and carnations of any color.

Sue was preceded in death by her father, Henry D. Gentry of Cookeville, TN; step-father James I. Williamson of Harrington; son Joseph R. Williamson of Newark and brother Michael A. Gentry of Gates, NC.

She is survived by her mother Margaret E. Williamson of Harrington; son Ricky L. Williamson of Dover; son Daniel K. Williamson of NJ; daughter Sherri L. Williamson of Harrington; sister Janice F. Wroten of Federalsburg, MD; brother Wesley D. Gentry of Harrington; grandson James I. Williamson III and granddaughter Alyssa M. French, both of Harrington.

A memorial service will be 11 am Saturday, May 29 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming where friends may gather one hour earlier. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be sent to Kent County SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.

Smart, Charles E.

Charles E. Smart, 78, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 16, 2010. He was born on January 30, 1932 in New York and was educated in the New York City school system. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict and after military service he began a career with the United States Postal Service and retired after 36 years.

He is predeceased by his father and mother, Walter Sr. and Braddie Smart, his brothers, Walter Jr. and Reginald Smart and his sister Florita Smart Perea.

He leaves to celebrate his memory, his wife, Theresa Smart of Dover; son, Apostle Craig Young and his wife Dr. Phylis Young of Chesapeake, VA; daughter Jeanine Smart-Kokason of Dover; grandson, Khan Kokason of Killeen, TX; granddaughter, Kyo Kokason-Romisch of Dover; great granddaughter, Jessilyn Kokason of Dover; great granddaughter, Jade Kokason of Arkansas; great grandson, Ethan Romisch of Dover; nephews, Andre and Troy Smart of California and his favorite nephew, Kenny Young of Georgia.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 24, 2010 at Frontline Ministries, 595 N. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901, where friends may view one hour prior to Service. Interment will be at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro, DE.

Freeman, Morris W.

Morris W. Freeman died Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital, Dover, Delaware. Morris was born October 27, 1936 in Dover. He was the son of the late Rev. Thomas E. and Della Lewis Freeman.

He accepted Christ at a young age at the First Pilgrim Baptist Church in Camden. Mr. Freeman attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School and the William Henry High School. After returning from the Armed Forces, Morris was employed at the Firestone Store with his father and brother. Later he was employed by the City of Dover for a number of years, where he subsequently retired.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters. He leaves to mourn his loss, a lovely wife, Lillian Ridgeway Freeman, a son, Justin M. Freeman of Dover, two daughters, Rhonda Stinnett (Tieko) of Fort Hood, Texas and Jessica Freeman of Camden, Delaware, five brothers, Rev. Monroe Freeman, Andrew Freeman, Rev. Anthony Freeman of Dover, Delaware, Freeman T. Freeman of Wayne, NY, and Charles T. Freeman of Petersburg, VA, two sisters, Della Scott of Washington, DC and Bishop Doreina C. Miles of Dover, DE, four sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, James Miles his lifelong friend and three grandchildren Sierra Stinnett, Tieko Stinnett, Jr. and Sydney Stinnett.

His Home Going Service will be Saturday, May 22, 2010 at 11:00 am with viewing from 9:00am-11:00am at First Pilgrim Baptist Church, Camden, Delaware. Burial will follow in Gibbs Cemetery, Dover.

Stewart, James G.

James G. Stewart, 82, of Dover went home to be with his Lord Saturday, May 15, 2010 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on October 13, 1927 in Lake City, SC, son of the late Charles and Anna (Garris) Stewart.

James served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. After his military career, he was a self employed contractor.

He was a dedicated member of the Willow Grove Church of God.

His many hobbies included woodworking, fishing, and NASCAR. He was an avid sports enthusiast and he and his wife enjoyed RV traveling around the country.

James was preceded in death by his first wife Nancy Stewart in 1997.

He is survived by his wife Joan Stewart, a son Terry Stewart and his wife Joan of Clayton, three stepchildren Patrick Talley and his wife Cynthia of Eustis, FL, Cynthia Lavey and her husband Michael of Shepherdsville, KY and Rita McGinnis and her husband Paul of Brooks, KY, two brothers Bobby Stewart and his wife Carolyn of Burlington, NC and Bill Stewart and his wife Brenda of Mebane, NC, a granddaughter Andrea Stewart of Clayton and four step grandchildren and one step great grandchild.

Service will be 12 noon Thursday, May 20, at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may gather two hour before services. Burial will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Willow Grove Church of God 90 Honeysuckle Rd., Camden, DE 19934 or Delaware Hospice, 911 Lotus Plaza, Dover, DE 19901.

Bumbrey, Lisa D.

Lisa D. Bumbrey, 38, of Dover passed away May 14, 2010 at the Heartland Hospice House, Wilmington.

She was born on June 5, 1971 in Camden, New Jersey.

Lisa worked for Comfort Inn, Dover for the past 15 years before her illness.

She enjoyed going to the casino and spending family times with her children and grandchildren.

Lisa is preceded in death by her mother Robin Daniels in April.

She is survived by her father Spencer Daniels, Dover, four children Abdul Bumbrey, Fatima Bumbrey, Tiana Bumbrey and Lawrence Bumbrey and she raised her nephew since birth Cortez Daniels all of Dover, a sister Linnear Johnson of Dover, a brother Spencer Wright of Bridgeville and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews and a niece.

Service will be 3 pm Sunday, May 23 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call two hours earlier. Burial will follow in Whatcoat Cemetery, Dover.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the funeral home to help with expenses.

Ross, Sharon Marie

Sharon Marie Ross died on May 13, 2010 at the Stockley Center after a long and courageous battle. She was born on July 28, 1946 in Dover, DE to the late Victor T. and Minnie B. Ross of near Wyoming, DE. Sharon resided at the Stockley Center for the past 54 years and was known for her gentle spirit and sweet smile. She enjoyed music and her fellow residents.

She is survived by seven sisters, three brothers and their families, Dorothy Myers of Titusville, PA, Kathleen Stutzman of Meadville, PA, Jean Sandish of Oregon, OH, Joyce Conner of Kernersville, NC, Rose Ann Landers of Georgetown, TX, Nancy Ross of Newark, DE, Sandra Stump of Wyoming, DE, John Ross of Macon, GA, Victor Ross of Wyoming, DE, and Charles Ross of Kingston, Nova Scotia. In addition, Sharon is survived by an extended family at the Stockley Center who loved and cared for her for many years.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 18 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 West Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Camden, DE.

Slawter, Lucia E.

Lucia E. Slawter, 91, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2010 in her daughter's home.

She was born on August 30, 1918 in Wilmington, Delaware, daughter of the late Igniazio and Annunziata (Meloni) Tancredi.

Lucia enjoyed life as a homemaker, especially baking for her family. She liked crafts, sewing and going to Dover Downs Casino. Lucia was a member of the Modern Maturity Center and the County Seat Red Hatters of Georgetown Senior Center.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Malvern Slawter, two sons-in-law Robert Stanley and James Denham, a grandson Robert Denham and eight siblings.

She is survived by two daughters Estella Stanley of Hartly and Nancy M. Denham and her companion Greg Gabel of Georgetown, a son Malvern Slawter III and his wife Nancy of Dover, a sister Margaret Sund of Wilmington, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

Services will be 2 pm Thursday, May 13 at the Charles Arcaro Funeral Home, 2309 Lancaster Ave., Wilmington where visitation will be one hour earlier. Burial will follow in Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Vitas Hospice, 100 Commerce Dr., Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713 or Kent County SPCA, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.
