Peterson, Hazel

Hazel Peterson, 54, of Dover passed away Monday, April 5, 2010.

She was born May 9, 1955 in Manhattan, NY.

Hazel was an avid reader, enjoyed music and loved jokes.

She is survived by her mother Rosa May Wiggins of Dover, her companion Milton Borges, two sisters Louetta Peterson and Carolyn Fox both of Dover, two brothers Joseph Peterson of Dover and Ivery Peterson, Jr. of FL and an extended family of nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial service will be 6 pm Thursday, April 15 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may gather one hour earlier.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the funeral home.

deCastro, Dulce Lopez

Dulce Lopez de Castro died Easter Sunday, April 4 at Capitol Healthcare Services in Dover surrounded by her family.

Born in 1921 in Santiago, Cuba, she was the daughter of the late Domingo Lopez and Salustiana Solis Lopez.

Mrs. de Castro was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved being with her family and cooking for them. Her greatest joys were her 4 grandchildren.

Mrs. de Castro is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Grizel and Alex Muniz of Dover, her son and daughter-in-law, Jorge and Charlene de Castro, of Bethpage, NY and her grandchildren, Alexis and Rebecca Muniz of Dover, DE and Kevin, and Mark de Castro of Bethpage, NY.

Visitation will be 7-9 pm Thursday, April 8 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Burial will be 11 am Friday at St. Charles Cemetery, Lindenhurst, NY.

Smith, Theresa

Theresa Smith, 103, went home to be with the Lord on Resurrection Sunday, April 4, 2010. She was a resident of Westminster Village in Dover. She was born January 20, 1907 in Charleston, SC.

She leaves to celebrate her memory, daughter, Theresa Smart and her husband Charles Smart of Dover, daughter, Estelle Young of St. Petersburg, FL, grandson, Apostle Craig Young and his wife, Dr. Phylis Young of Chesapeake, VA, granddaughter Jeanine Kokason of Dover, granddaughter, Carol Ann Hunter of Florida, granddaughter Dianne Pennisi of Virginia, granddaughter Suzanne Wilson of California, granddaughter Debbie Owens of New York, grandson Kenny Young of Georgia, great grandson Khan Kokason of Killeen, Texas, great granddaughter Kyo Romisch of Dover, great great granddaughter Jessilyn Kokason of Dover, great great granddaughter Jade Kokason of Arkansas and great great grandson Ethan Romisch of Dover

Visitation will be 4-5 pm Thursday, April 8, at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave.

Burial will be 1 pm Friday at Rockville Cemetery, Lynbrook, NY

Wilson, Emma M.

Emma M. Wilson, 77, of Dover went to be with her Lord Sunday, April 4, 2010 in the Hospice Center, Milford.

She was born on February 9, 1933 in Dover, Delaware, son of the late William and Bessie (Hutson) Barrett.

Emma had worked for Playtex Apparel for 39 years. She was a faithful member of the Wyoming United Methodist Church. Emma loved life and enjoyed being with family.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Rials and Thelma Barrett and a long time companion, Chester Pleasanton.

She is survived by a son James H. Boone and his wife Pamela of Harrington, two daughters Joyce Robinson of Dover and Judy Brown and her husband Richard of Frederica, seven grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren; also the extended family of her late companion, Chester Pleasanton.

Friends may call 7-9 pm Tuesday, April 6 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.

Service will be 11 am Wednesday at the Wyoming United Methodist Church, 216 Wyoming Mill Rd., Wyoming, where friends may gather one hour earlier. Burial will be private for family at Sharon Hills Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Wyoming United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 389, Wyoming, DE 19934 or Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901.

Mundy, Margaret Shearer

Margaret Shearer Mundy, 80, of Camden passed away April 3, 2010 at Kent General Hospital.

She was born on February 17, 1930 in New Cumberland, PA, daughter of the late John and Thelma (Peeigo) Shearer.

Margaret enjoyed life as a homemaker. Her hobbies included sewing and cross stitching.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter Marion Stacey.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years James Mundy, three children John Mundy of Ukiah, CA, Mark Mundy of Seaford and Michael Mundy and his wife Tara of Dover and two grandchildren Donald Emery and wife Clair and Rachel Emery.

Services and burial were private for family in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Harrison, Ruby "Jean"

Ruby "Jean" Harrison, 77, of Ellendale, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2010, at the home of her daughter, in Rehoboth Beach, where she had resided for several months. Born in Red Jacket, WV July 3, 1932, she was the daughter of Jim and Cora (Anderson) Pugh. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Chester Harrison, in January of this year.

Retired from L.D. Caulk Co. in Milford, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed reading and creative writing. Her love of books was evident in her vast collection of rare and antique books. She spent many hours researching their history and authors, and was an expert at finding answers to most any question using her many reference books. She was an avid scrabble player, always looking for a challenging game.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, and 5 siblings. She is survived by her children; Deborah Steele and husband, Steve; Chuck Harrison and wife, Debra; Donna Russell and husband, Leonard; Denise Kirn and husband, Stan; 6 granddaughters; 6 great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Stanley Harrison; a nephew Richard Dickerson and wife, Karen; and other members of her sibling's families.

With respect for Jean's wishes, there will be no service. Memorial contributions or remembrances can be made to Ellendale Vol. Fire Co. where her husband was a lifetime member.

Burgess, Robert W.

Robert W. Burgess, 76, of Dover passed away March 31, 2010 in his home.

He was born on June 22, 1933 in Boston, MA, son of the late Neil and Avril (Gruner) Burgess.

Robert was a salesman for most of his life. He was a member of the Tufts University Alumni Assoc. He liked collecting and shooting guns, breeding and showing dogs.

He is survived by his son Jon Burgess of Camden, two daughters Betsy Duran of Ashland, OR and Robin Burgess of Hampden, MA and three grandchildren Alek, Arynne and Jacob.

Services were private.

McKennett, Robert James

Robert James McKennett, 91, of Dover passed away Saturday, March 27, 2010 in his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on March 23, 1919 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Harold and Mary (Sweeney) McKennett. Robert served in the African, Italian and European campaigns of WWII. He retired as a Captain from the Army National Guard after 22 years of service.

He had worked as an accountant for Ford, Scott and Associates in Ocean City, NJ for over 40 years retiring in 1997.

Robert was a member of the VFW, MOAA, and the 157th Field Artillery Assoc. and enjoyed music.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Viola McKennett, and his two brothers Harold and Thomas McKennett.

He is survived by a son Robert McKennett and his wife Melanie, of Dover, daughter Barbara Spindler and her husband Robert of Hot Springs, AR, four grandchildren Jennifer Crain and her husband David of Layton, UT, Robert Spindler, Jr. of Little Rock, AR, Scott Spindler and his wife Jenny of Flower Mound, TX and Lisa Kiesling and her husband Drew of Dallas, TX, and a great grandchild Grayson Crain of Layton, UT and five great grandchildren of Dallas, TX

Service and burial were at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
