Caruso, Vera

Vera Caruso, 84, of Felton passed away March 25, 2010 in her home surrounded by her loving family.

Vera had worked in various restaurants as a waitress.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years Melvin Caruso, two daughters Melvina Fifer of FL and Patricia Kline of NJ, a son Michael Caruso of FL, nine grand children and nine great grandchildren.

Services and burial are private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901.

O'Connell, Thomas M.

Thomas M. O'Connell, 79, of Milford, passed away Thursday, March 25, 2010 at home. He was born on June 8, 1930 in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late Phillip and Viola (Jackson) O'Connell. Thomas served his country proudly in both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army. From 1970 to 1978 he resided in Milford. He was a member of the Carlisle Fire Dept. for four years. Tom and his wife moved to Mission Viejo, CA where they lived for 21 years; he was employed in the Aerospace Industry. In 2000 the O'Connell's returned to the Milford area to be closer to relatives. He enjoyed extensive travel and sports, mainly football.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife C.J. O'Connell, his sister Catherine Swiggett, and two children Thomas and Christine. He is preceded in death by his daughter Sandra. Committal services will be 1 pm Saturday, April 10 at the Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.

Smart, Juanita Lorraine

Juanita Lorraine Smart of Camden-Wyoming passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family and friends on April 3, 2010 to join her heavenly Father.

Juanita was born in Roswell, New Mexico to her parents Randolph and Pauline Hagen. A lifelong resident of Dover, she graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 1979, and went on to receive her bachelor's degree in nursing from Delaware State University. Known for her wit, humor and love of family she will be remembered as a strong woman overcoming many of life's challenges, and dedicating her life to helping others.

Juanita is survived by her sons Justin, Matthew and Shea, her father Randolph, mother Pauline and stepfather Gilbert, her brothers Randy, Paul, Eric Phillip Hagen and her sister Linda along with her extended family and friends. A special goodbye to Glen Long.

We love you very much, you will always be in our hearts.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday, April 7 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am Thursday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 631 S. State St., Dover.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, 165 Commerce Way, Suite 2, Dover, DE 19904.

Glanden, Jr., Harry

Harry Glanden, Jr. of Wyoming died peacefully on Wednesday, March 24, 2010.

He was born in Wyoming on September 30, 1934 to the late Harry and Priscilla (Ford) Glanden.

Junior served in the Army as an auto maintenance worker, from 1954-1956. After his military service, he was employed at M.A. Hartnett, Wyoming Block in Wyoming, Chambers in Canterbury and retired from Allen Cox's Camper Sales in Woodside. He was also a charter member of the Camden-Wyoming Moose Lodge and a member of the American Legion.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend that will be dearly missed. Junior enjoyed camping, fishing, clamming, basketmaking, and spending his winters in Florida.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Walker Glanden, Kenneth Glanden, and Delbert Glanden, and sisters Louise Shockley, Doris LePore, and Jeannette (Sissy) Edwards.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Mable (Kemp) Glanden, four sons and their wives, Bruce, Garry and Debbie, Charles and Terri, and Delbert and Julie, one daughter Jane and her husband Darryl Gatts, four grandchildren, Garry Glanden, Jr. and his wife Jennifer Glanden, Kelly Glanden, Darryl Gatts, Jr. and his girlfriend, Jenn, and Cameron Glanden, two brothers Paul Glanden, and Robert Glanden, and several nephews and nieces.

Viewing will be held 6-8 pm Sunday, March 28 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Services will be 11:00 am Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Sandtown.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Edgehill Community Church of God, c/o Rev. Milton B. Kemp, 702 Maple Parkway, Dover, DE 19901 in Junior's memory.

Guy, Thelma B.

Thelma B. Guy, 78, of Dover passed away March 24, 2010 in Westminster Ceneter.

She was born on Sept. 2, 1931 in Montgomery, AL, daughter of the late Soloman and Rosa (Fitzpatrick) Canada.

Thelma had worked as a sales clerk for Hess Apparel.

She was an avid champion bowler, enjoyed sports and liked to cook. Thelma was a member of the Modern Maturity Center and was on the usher board of Mt. Zion Church.

Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Frank Guy, a son Gregory Guy and three brothers.

She is survived by four daughters, twins Barbara Guy, and Betty Cohen both of Dover, Myra Moorehead of Elkridge, MD and Joyce Guy of Los Angles, CA, two brothers Ernest Boyd of Washington, DC, Arthur Badie of NJ, 10 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, and an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Services will be 1 pm Thursday, April 1, at Mt. Zion Church, 101 N. Queen St., Dover, where friends may gather two hours earlier. Burial will follow in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.

Kemp, Jr., Thomas

Thomas Kemp, Jr., 59, of Seaford passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2010 in his home.

He was born on Sept. 4, 1950 in Wyoming, Delaware, son of the late Thomas and Winifred (Wyatt) Kemp.

Thomas was a self-employed painter for many years. He enjoyed fishing and working on cars.

He is survived by his wife Margaret Evans Kemp, two sons Thomas Kemp III of New Castle and Larry Evans of Hartly, a sister Pam Touhey of New Castle, four grandchildren Thomas Kemp IV, Brittney Kemp, Larry G. Kemp, Jr. and Brittney Marie Zeitler.

Service will be 1 pm Sunday, March 28 at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming where friends may gather two hours earlier. Burial will follow in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.

Humphries, John William

John William "JW" Humphries, 62, of Felton died in his home on March 21, 2010.

He was born on June 24, 1947 in Dover, Delaware, son of the late Otto and Mary (Amstutz) Humphries.

John owned and operated JW Humphries Masonary since 1988.

He enjoyed being out of his boats, fishing, hunting, riding his four wheelers, and having family and friends over for barbeques. He attended the Bridge of Life Church, Camden.

Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers Ike, Robert, Alan and Jerry Humphries, a sister Betty Humphries and two beloved granddaughters Amanda Golt and Rose Parsons.

John is survived by his wife Elizabeth Humphries, six step children Mike Williams of Smyrna, Alvie Williams and Joey Williams of Marydel, Donna Parsons of magnolia, Sandra Golt of Viola, and David Whitehair of Magnolia, a brother Ray Humphries and his wife Betty of Hartly, 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 7-9 pm Friday, March 26 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Service will be 11 am Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the funeral home to help with expenses.
