Richards, Daisy P.
Daisy P. Richards of Wyoming passed away Friday, December 10, 2010 at Courtland Manor Nursing Home, Dover where she had been a resident for the last 2 ½ years. She was 76.
She was born on July 14, 1934 in Cecilton, Maryland, daughter of the late Clarence and Anna (Lightcap) Pearce. She was one of 12 children.
Daisy enjoyed life as a homemaker. Her hobbies included bottle collecting, antiques, doing crosswords and canning. She was an Orioles fan and enjoyed listening to radio sports.
She is preceded in death by her husband Melvin Earl Richards in 2004 and Mildred and Guy Rogers that raised her, four sisters Effie Pearce, Mildred Hurd, Mary Lavender and Marian Reed, two brothers Clarence Jr., and Ander J. Pearce.
Daisy is survived by three children Kenneth Earl Richards, Loretta Gail Grimmett and Roger Allen Richards all from Wyoming, two grandchildren Rebecca Spring Farrow of NC and Jeremy Lee Grimmett of Wyoming, siblings Nellie Dittman of Clayton, Catherine Probst of Dover, Margaret of Georgetown, John T. Pearce of Georgia and William Pearce of Clayton. Visitation will be 2-4 pm Sunday, December 12 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Burial will be private.
Chandler, Carlisa E.
Carlisa E. Chandler, of Dover, passed away December 8 2010. Lisa was born May 29, 1969 to Geraldine Marsh and Ellis B. Chandler. She attended Middletown High School. Lisa was employed with Delmarva Cleaning. She enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles, and playing solitary. Lisa's favorite drink was Pepsi, she enjoyed eating out, and loved dining on crabs and clams most of all. Her smile and witty sense of humor will be deeply missed by all that knew and loved her.
Lisa took us on a journey, one with which even in death does not end, she was daughter, mother, sister, but most especially our friend. There were, in our childhood, so many happy times, like going to the mall or learning step routines. We always wanted to hang out with our sister; it brought us such joy to know you; you were always at our side, ready to defend us in every way. Your memory comforts us and makes us all smile, and even though you have gone away you will always be in our hearts to stay. We realize now, that we were blessed to have a sister and mother like you, and although we will miss you dearly, we want your spirit to fly free. Be free from suffering, worries, and pain dear one. Be free to enjoy the wonders of heaven. We know that one day we will meet again. We love you, Lisa!
Lisa is survived by her children Shauntay Drinks and her husband Shakeem of New York; Tamika Chandler, Jasmine Harris, and D'Andre Chandler each from Dover; her sister Latoya Swiggett and her husband Howard of Dover; and her brother Ellis J. Chandler and his wife Dawn of Maryland. She is also missed by her companion Frank Malloy of Dover; her beloved grandchildren Kyla and Alia Drinks; Kylil Chandler, and her two nephews Deionte Swiggett and Sincere Chandler. She also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins to cherish her memory. Services will be 12 noon Tuesday, December 14, at the Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoming, where friends may gather one hour earlier. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Pippin Funeral Home.
Clarence Alza Woodall, 57
Woodside - Clarence Alza Woodall, of Woodside, entered into his eternal rest Tuesday December 7, 2010. He was born on August 4, 1953; the son of Ted and Effie Nichols. He is survived by his loving wife Bonnie, and her sister Connie Pickens; Clarence was the father of 8 children, and the Step-Father to three, as well, who included Michael, Wanda, and Jennifer Mahaffey; he was also a grandfather of three. Other survivors included his brother, Robert "Stretch" Knight, a sister, Helen Knight, and a very special cousin, Brenda Marchione and her husband Troy. He is also remembered by his pocket pal, Rufus, his dog.
He enjoyed collecting, Nascar, movies, the History channel, and traveling. He had also been a member of the local Moose Lodge. Services will be held at Pippin Funeral Home 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming on Saturday Dec. 11, with a gathering from 12:00 to 1:00 pm, with services immediately following thereafter. Family request that In Lieu of Flowers donations are made to assist with funeral expenses.
Triplett, Richard S.
Richard S. Triplett of Dover passed away December 6, 2010 in Harbor Health Care, Lewes. He was 74.
Richard was born on December 27, 1935 in Baltimore, MD son of the late Clarence and Dorothy (Williams) Triplett. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force.
He had worked as a salesman in life insurance.
Richard is survived by four sons Richard Triplett of Dover, Daniel Triplett of Dover, Anthony Triplett of FL and Andrew Triplett of NC and a daughter Darlene Jones of TX and a sister Thelma Underwood.
Services were private.
Wayne Gilbert Perry, 56
Harrington - Wayne Gilbert Perry, of Harrington, entered into his eternal rest Friday December 3, 2010.
Wayne was born on May 10, 1954 in Bainbridge, Missouri, the son of Gilbert and Kathleen Perry. He is survived by his children, daughter, Laura Robbins, of Frederica, and son, Chris Perry, of Harrington; as well as his siblings, sister, Judith Sawyer, and brother, Robert Perry, of Magnolia; and his loving companion, Robin Wood, of Harrington.
Services will be held at Pippin Funeral Home 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming on Friday Dec. 10, with a gathering from 6:00 to 7:00, with services immediately following thereafter. Family request that In Lieu of Flowers donations are made to assist with funeral expenses.
Leggett, John D.
John D. Leggett, 83, of Dover, died Wednesday, December 1, 2010 in the V.A. Medical Center, Elsmere, DE.
Mr. Leggett was born in White Plains, NY, and had owned a burglar alarm company there for many years, before retiring, and relocating to Delaware.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Constance "Connie" Leggett, who died in 2008.
He is survived by his step-son Louis M. Plattie, Jr, and his wife Peggy, of Congers, NY ; a
Brother-in-law- Glen Downs, of Bethany Beach; and 4 Grandchildren.
Funeral services were held privately.
Hensley, Evan
Evan Hensley passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2010 in Kent General Hospital.
He was born on April 9, 1924 to Evan Hopkins Hensley and Frieda Ziegler Hensley. Raised in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, he attended Ohio Wesleyan University on a track scholarship. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corp in 1942 and served until 1946 when he returned to OWU, graduating in 1949.
Evan took a job which sent him to Wilmington, DE, where he soon was re-hired by the Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. and eventually became manager of the Wilmington Firestone store. After assignments in Baltimore and Salisbury, MD he came to Dover in 1963 to work for Buchanan Firestone. His proudest achievement was starting the Carl King Tire Co. with Mr. King in 1976. He retired in 1989.
Evan was a member of the Dover Lions Club, American Legion Walter Fox Post 2, VFW Post 3238, and BPOE Lodge 1903. He was a past president of Dover Lions Club and had received both the Melvin Jones and Ralph Helm fellowship awards. He was also a long time sponsor of Ducks Unlimited.
Evan is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eileen; a son Evan Hensley, Jr. and his wife Leslie of Dover, a daughter Sheila Hunnicutt of Dover, and a daughter Patricia Hensley of Alexandria, VA. He also leaves five grandchildren: Kenneth Hunnicutt of Dover, Amy Hunnicutt of St. Bernard, LA, Evan Hensley III, Dylan Hensley and Elise Hensley all of Dover. There are three great grandchildren in St. Bernard, LA.
Friends may gather 7-9 pm Thursday, December 2, in the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. Service will be 11:00 am Friday, December 3 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association, 200 Continental Dr., Suite 101, Newark, DE 19713.
Harris, Gordon Garnet
Gordon Garnet Harris was born in January 21, 1965, to the late Benjamin P. Harris (Phillip) and Norma Jean Robinson (Harris) Hayes in Dover, Delaware and was called home to be with the Lord on December 17, 2010.
Gordon attended West Dover Elementary School and continued his education in the Caesar Rodney School District. He enlisted in the National Guard and later transferred into the U.S. Army. Gordon labored at various jobs, but found his passion in the culinary arts. He later completed his education and received his certification in the culinary arts from Polytech School in Woodside, DE. He enjoyed creating masterpieces at Applebee's and the Olive Garden in the Dover area.
Gordon married Lorraine Hanzer on November 20, 2000. Gordon had two children, Gordon and Sharnet, from a previous union.
Gordon "Gee Money"/ "Chef BoyarGee" was an intelligent, outgoing, fun-spirited person who had many interests and hobbies. He loved to create succulent dishes and he was quite proud of his barbequing skills, most especially his ribs, whether they were dry rub or cooked in his special barbeque sauce. He enjoyed fishing and crabbing and could serve a mean gumbo that would make your mouth water and leave you wanting more. Gordon's favorite team was the Philadelphia Eagles. There probably was not a more passionate fan in the area than he.
Gordon was an avid reader; his interests covered a broad spectrum of topics. He rededicated his life to Christ, and added the Bible to his favorite readings. He liked reading from Psalms. His favorite gospel song was, "Something About the Name, Jesus."
Gordon is preceded in death by his father, Phillip Harris, his paternal grandparents, William and Beatrice Harris, and his maternal grandparents, Monroe and Zelda Robinson. Left to mourn him are his wife, Lorraine Harris, two children, Gordon Summers of Middletown, and Sharnet Summers of Kansas, two grandchildren, Gordon Jr. and Kah'lier Summers, his mother Norma Jean Hayes of Milford, three sisters, Bridget Harris of Dover, Angelique Harris of Felton, Deidre Harris of Roswell, GA, one brother Wesly Harris, a stepbrother Homer Readores, and his stepmother, Salvadora Harris, all of Magnolia. Among the host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and other relatives, Gordon leaves behind to mourn a special aunt, Sharlene Dial of Lincoln.
Gordon will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends. A viewing will be held Thursday, December 23rd at noontime at the Union Missionary Baptist Church in Dover, followed by services at 1PM.
Field, Warren (WC) Louise
Warren Louis Field passed away after a long illness on Thursday, November 25, 2010, surround by his children, his granddaughter, his brothers, sisters, their spouses, his aunt and a dear friend of the family, he was 56. He is preceded in death by his devoted wife of 33 years, Sheila Field, in 2005. He is survived by his daughter Michelle Field, his son Christopher Rodney Field, and his fiancee Jamie Stone, his granddaughter Sara Elizabeth Field, his parents Rodney and Joan Field of Felton, his brothers and their wives: Lonnie and Sonja Field of Clayton, Raymond and Kathy Field of Camden, Leonard Field who resides at Felton, but is currently a patient at the University of PA hospital, and a brother Richard Field who resides with his life partner Rhonda Register in Dover. He is also survived by his sisters, Sheryl Mackay and her husband James Mackay, from Springfield MA, his sister, Patricia Field and her life partner Steven Josefowski, who reside in Camden. Warren is also survived by 7 nieces and 6 nephews as well as 13 great nieces and nephews.
Warren served in the United States Army from 1970 - 1974. Warren enjoyed his children and granddaughter, Sara who enjoyed many hours of reading to her pop pop and helping him put jigsaw puzzles together, that he mounted on wood, transforming them into works of art. He designed and built birdhouses, enjoyed growing his own vegetables, collecting stamps, coins, and telling a story for each item in his collection. Warren had an innovative knack for building new treasures of old things. His nieces and nephews fondly remember when Uncle Warren built an off road vehicle from scraps, that they could drive around his yard for hours of fun. Warren truly proved to us that "one man's trash was another man's treasure" and he made recycling a hobby. He was loved and will be missed by us all. In time, we will post an announcement for his service, which will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions to a college trust fund for his granddaughter Sara Elizabeth, will be available, at the time of his memorial service in the spring of 2011.
