Brigid Boylan

Brigid Boylan, age 95 died Monday, August 31, 2009, at Millcroft Health Care Center, attended by her family.

Born Brigid Lanigan on April 24, 1914, in Ballinahow, near Thurles, Co. Tipperary, Ireland, she was the daughter of John Lanigan and Anne (Tynan) Lanigan. She was educated at the Presentation Convent in Thurles and went to work in the offices of the Great Southern Railway, for which her father worked as a signal inspector. She remembered with particular fondness her years at the Great Southern Hotel in Parknasilla, Killarney. In the early years of the Second World War, she went to Wales, where she worked alongside her uncle Matthew Tynan and cousin Peg Venables. In 1944, she married John Felix Boylan (1907-1974), a native of Ballagh, Threemilehouse, Co. Monaghan, who owned a drapery shop in Thurles, where they met. The marriage took place at the Pro-Cathedral, Dublin. In 1957, the couple emigrated from Thurles to Chicago with their five children. In Chicago, Mrs. Boylan worked as a day-care provider, a caterer at Chicago State Teachers' College (now Northeastern Illinois University), and in the office at Mangini & Company. She moved to Newark, DE, in 1997 to be close to her family.

She is survived by her children: John of Hollywood, FL, Anne of Newark, DE, Mary of Chicago, IL, Jim of Schweinfurt, Germany; and Bridget of San Francisco, CA; by her sons-in-law, Peter Kolchin and Dennis Spearman; her daughter-in-law, Doris Boylan; grandchildren, Lillianne, Robin, Michael, and David; and by her 2 grand-daughters-in-law, Ann Fornof and Mayra Boylan. She was predeceased by her much-loved husband, John Boylan, her parents, and her 7 siblings: Martin, Timothy (Tim), Mary (Mai), James (Jim), Patrick (Pakie), John, and Thomas (Tom).

In accordance with her wishes, the only funeral service will be a Mass of Christian Burial offered at the Cathedral of the Assumption, Thurles, followed by interment at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Thurles, on a date to be announced.

Cornelia D. "Connie" Bradshaw

Age 75, of Frankford, DE, and formerly of Rockville, MD died Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

She was born in East Providence, RI and was the daughter of the late Edwin Ralph and Gladys Cornelia Millin Donaldson. Mrs. Bradshaw was a member of the Fenwick Womens Club, Keenwick Womens Club, Ocean City Elks Ladies Auxiliary and the Red Hats.

She is survived by her husband, Richard E. Bradshaw of Frankford, DE; a son, Gary R. Bradshaw of Leesburg, VA; a daughter, Janice L. Bausch of Georgetown, DE; a brother, John D. Donaldson of Sunset Beach, NC; a sister, Cindy Blum of Phoenix, AZ; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am, on Saturday, September 5, at HASTINGS FUNERAL HOME in Selbyville with Father Max Wolfe officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Episcopal Cemetery in Georgetown. Friends may call an hour before the service.

Willard "Bill" Earl Buchanan

Willard "Bill" Earl Buchanan, age 65, of Rising Sun, MD, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 31, 2009.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Sherry Lynn Buchanan; 3 sons: Billy Adams and wife Bridgette, Stephen Buchanan and wife Holly, George Webber and wife Pamela; daughters, Joy Renee Connor and husband Christopher, and Robyn Wertz; brother, Charles Buchanan; sister, Jacquelyn Bledsoe and husband Donald; 15 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Darlene Wise; and paren ts, Earl and Parthina Buchanan.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 4, 2009 in the Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702 from 10-11:30 am followed by a service in celebration of Bill's life at 11:30 am. Burial will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 1 pm.

Doris Irene Clark

Age 87, of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Manor Care Foulk Rd. She was the wife of the late: John Clark.

Born in Malvern, PA, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Margaret Llewelyn Maxton. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Atonement. She and her late husband Jack were avid boaters and enjoyed spending time on the Chesapeake. She loved to sing and performed in her younger years with big bands along the east coast. She continued to perform for her friends at B'nai B'rith where she resided for many years.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Carol Calvert and Linda Ziegler and her husband Walter; grandchildren, Stephanie Holmes and her husband Tim, Gabe Russo and his wife Mandy and David Ziegler; great-grandchildren, Cameron Holmes and Hailey Russo.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at 10:30 am, on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at the Chapel at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Hwy., New Castle DE 19720. Interment will be at the adjoining Memorial Park. The family will receive guests starting at 9:30 am, in the chapel prior to the service.

Anna D. Collins

Anna D. Collins, age 86, of Seaford, DE died on Thursday, August 27, 2009.

Mrs. Collins and her husband owned and operated the Nanticoke Club in Seaford for over 30 years before retiring in 1985. She was a member of the National Garden Club and was a Accredited Life and Master Judge, she was a member of the American Daffodil Society, the Spade and Trowel Garden Club, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, the Acorn Club, the Red Hat Society (Jazzy Lady Bugs) and various bridge groups around Seaford.

Her husband Leroy A. "Jake" Collins died in 1994. She is survived by a daughter, Beverly Riedel and her husband, Michael; 2 granddaughters, Elizabeth Riedel and Christine Riedel, all of Richmond, VA; and a sister, Carmella Forestieri of Wilmington, DE.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, September 5 at 11 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Stein Hwy, Seaford. Friends may call at the CRANSTON FUNERAL HOME, 300 Shipley St, Seaford on Friday evening from 6-8 pm. Burial will be in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, P.O. Box 719, Seaford, DE 19973.

Mildred K. Gann

Age 94 of Wilmington, DE passed away on September 1, 2009 at Foulk Manor North.

Mrs. Gann was a longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church in North Wilmington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon L. Gann, her brother, George Kirk and sister, Dorothy Kirk. She is survived by her sister, Emma Sue Kirk of Dunluth, GA and her dear friend, Margaret Martin of Wilmington, DE.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday September 5 at 11 am in the MCCRERY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike Wilmington, 19803. Friends are welcome at 10 am for visitation. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Odyssey Healthcare Hospice, 1407 Foulk Rd. Wilmington, DE 19803.

Thomas E. Gibbons, Sr.

Thomas E. Gibbons, Sr., age 47, of Wilmington, DE, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 30, 2009.

Tom worked nine years for New Castle County as a machine and equipment operator, and also drove for Dave's Limousines. He was previously employed with Christiana Care and DelDot. Tom enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, and vacationing with his family.

Tom is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cheryl A. Gibbons; daughter, Shannon L. Lopez and husband Luis; son, Thomas E. Gibbons, Jr. and wife Melissa; brother Richard Gibbons; sisters: Karen Louth, Robin Roberts, and Diane Gott; 2 grandchildren, Thomas and Adrienne, soon-to-be granddaughter Savanna; and mother Kathryn Seibert and husband Kenneth. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mabel L. Jones; sister, Sharon Kleitz; and father, Richard Gibbons.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 4, 2009 in the chapel at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Highway, New Castle, DE 19720 from 9:30-11 am followed by a service in celebration of Tom's life at 11 am. Burial will be held in the adjoining cemetery.

The family suggests contributions to the educational fund for his grandchildren be sent to Strano & Feeley Family Funeral Home, 635 Churchmans Road, Newark, DE 19702.

Cecil T. Hastings, Sr.

Of Laurel, DE died August 31, 2009. Funeral, 2pm Friday, September 4 at the First Baptist Church of Laurel, 32631 Bi-State Blvd, Laurel; viewing 1 hour prior. Burial, Laurel Hill Cemetery. Arr: Hannigan Short Disharoon F.H.

Alfred D. Head

Age 61, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, August 31, 2009, surrounded by his family.

Born in Wilmington, Alfred was the son of the late Alfred R. and Ruth (Knotts) Head. He served his country as a US Marine during the Vietnam War where he was a P.O.W. and earned several Purple Hearts and a Silver Star. Later he worked as an auto mechanic, retiring from Ferris Auto Sales. He was an avid antique collector and enjoyed fossil hunting.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased in death by his brother, Wayne Head. He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Kimberlyn Turcol, with whom he lived; his son, Alfred R. Head and his wife Tristan; his grandchildren, Jessica and Skylar Head, Cheyenne and Savannah Turcol, Rodney Godwin, all of Wilmington, and his brother, Thomas Head of Rehoboth Beach.

Funeral services will be private.

Age 63, died August 30, 2009. Viewing, 6-8pm Fri., Sept. 4 at St. Paul's UM Church, Berlin, MD. Funeral, 11am Sept. 5, at at Asbury UM Church, Salisbury, MD. Arr. by Bennie Smith F.H., Salisbury, MD.
