Richard James Larkin

04/15/21 - 4/11/2004

Richard James Larkin, Jr. age 82 of Lewes, died at his residence on Sunday April 11, 2004. Mr. Larkin was born in Chester, PA to Richard James Larkin, Sr. and Mary Amelia (Hunter) Larkin. He had been employed for 30 years as a sample chaser for the Sun Oil Company, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge and VFW Post #7447, Rehoboth Beach DE. He had served in the U.S. Navy in both the Atlantic and Pacific during the entire WWII.

Mr. Larkin is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen (Barton) Larkin, 2 sons: James R. Larkin of Woodbridge, Va and David E. Larkin, Wilmington, DE; a daughter Mary Dolores Taylor, West Chester, PA; a sister Irene Bellairs and her husband Jack of Long Neck, DE; 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Expressions of Sympathy In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association, 1151 Walker Road, Suite202, Dover, DE 19904 or to Building Fund of Community Lutheran Church, Omar, DE.

Ella Grace Wittiger

Ella Grace Wittiger, age 79, of Rehoboth Beach, DE. died Friday, April 9, 2004, at Harrison House in Georgetown, DE

Mrs. Wittiger was born in Salem County, New Jersey, May 29, 1924 to the late Charles and Margaret Dare Adler. For many years she was employed as a cook for Diner operations. She enjoyed sewing and was a former member of The Rebeccas Lodge, Pennsgrove, NJ. She loved animals.

Mrs. Wittiger is survived by her daughter Susan M. Collins of Rehoboth Beach; a son Richard Wittiger of Salem, New Jersey; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Services and burial will be private. Arrangements are being made by the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE

Edgar Layton Hill

12/19/1911 - 4/8/2004

Edgar Layton Hill, age 92, died Thursday, April 8 at Beebe Medical Center. Mr. Hill is survived by his wife Rosalie E. "Brohawn" Hill of Lewes, DE, two daughters Betsy Bailey of Lewes and Pat and her husband Ed Lynam of Bethany Beach, one brother Ted Hill and one sister Lydia Baird both of Wilmington, DE. He is also survived by one grandaughter Ashley Crispin of Lewes and three great grandchildren Corrine Crispin, Gabe Symanski and Cameron Symanski.

Mr. Hill was a hardworking salesman in the truck tire business. He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Corinthian Lodge in Wilmington, DE and he was a member of the Midway Assembly of God Church in Lewes.

There will be a memorial service on Tuesday, April 13, 2:00 PM, at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Adkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, DE.

Angela Arragona

11/13/1904 - 4/7/2004

Mrs. Angela Aragona, age 99, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at Green Valley Terrace in Millsboro, DE. Mrs. Aragona was the daughter of the late Luke Badaluca and the late Vita Badaluca. She is survived by her two daughters Gloria T. Aragona and Vita P. Baglio both of Rehoboth Beach, DE and five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Family and friends may call on Monday, April 12 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 13 at 10:00 AM at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church in Lewes; viewing in church one-half hour prior to Mass. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Angola, DE.

John Richards Tierney

04/28/1916 - 4/7/2004

Mr. John Richards Tierney, age 87, of Lewes, DE, died at home on Wednesday, April 7, 2004. Mr. Tierney is survived by his son David L. of Georgetown, DE, his daughter Maureen Fickel of Laurel, MD, two grandsons Army Major John F. Fickel of Kansas City, KS and Gregory D. Fickel of Laurel, MD, and one sister, Elizabeth MacKinnon of Hamdon, CT. Mr. Tierney was preceded in death by his wife Ursula Thelma "Carey" Tierney and his parents Gertrude and John Richards Tierney.

Mr. Tierney was a Special Agent with the FBI for 30 years retiring in 1961; he later served as a Comptroller, University of Maryland, for ten years.

There will be a graveside service at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery, Brentwood, MD at 11:30 AM, Friday, April 9, 2004. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes, DE.

David P. Mayer

03/14/1918 - 4/4/2004

Dr. David P. Mayer, of Angola By The Bay, Lewes, DE, died Sunday, April 4, 2004 of natural causes in Lewes, DE where he has resided with his wife since 1983. Dr, Mayer was the fomer Director of Manpower Management for the Veterans Administration in Washington, DC. He retired in 1973 after 35 years of service with the Federal Government and moved to Angola By The Bay in 1983 with his wife Ruth. In 1943, Dr. Mayer was appointed to a position of Administrative Officer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Baraboo, WI during the construction of a gun powder plant, a part of the Manhattan Project. Upon completion of the project, Dr. Mayer was appointed as the special agent in charge of the U.S. Civil Service Commission's office in Milwaukee, WI. Upon completion of that asignemnt, Dr. Mayer accepted a position as Director of Personnel with the Verterans Administration's Hospital at Wood, WI. Dr. Mayer then went on to become the Personnel Director for VA Hospitals located in Miles City, MT; Portland, OR; Fort Thomas, KY; and Cincinnati, OH. In 1961 he accepted the position as Director of Manpower Management for the VA in Washington, DC.

Dr. Mayer was born on March 4, 1918 in Stetsonville, WI and grew up in Port Washington, WI. He served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific in 1940-1941 and was stationed at Hickam Field in Hawaii. Dr. Mayer contracted Spinal Meningitis and spent nine months in a VA Hospital in Hawaii and was discharged just prior to Peral Harbor. Dr. Mayer attended the universities of Wisconsin, Marquette, and Xavier where he earned Bachelor degrees in business administration and journalism. He earned three Master's degrees, and a Ph.D. in psychology.

After his retirement, Dr. Mayer accepted a position as Director of Administrative Services with a land development and construction corporation in the Washington, DC area. He also worked part-time as a mental therapist with a psychiatric clinic in Washington, DC.

For over 30 years, Dr. Mayer studied graphology. After his certification as a handwriting expert, he founded the American Academy of Graphology in Washington, DC. During the 1970's he lectured on the subject of graphology at the Department of Speech Pathology at American University, where he also was an instructor. He was consulted in numerous criminal and civil cases as a handwriting expert, and often appeared as a speaker on television and radio across the country.

Dr. Mayer and his wife celebrated their 61st wedding anniversity on November 14, 2003. He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Buelke of Waldo, WI. He has four children, Gary Mayer of Laurel, MD; Gail Osten of Colorado Springs, CO; Roxanne Winkler of Annapolis, MD; and Jeffery Mayer of Bowie, MD. He has 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Dr. Mayer is further survived by his sister, Angie Kultgen of Port Washington, WI.

A memorial service for Dr. Mayer is scheduled for April 17, 2004 at 11:00 AM at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, Rt. 24 at Rt. 297, Oak Orchard, DE. A reception is being held at 12:30 pm at the Angola By The Bay Clubhouse, Lewes, DE following the service.

Eugene Burchette Rowe

04/03/04 - 4/3/2004

Eugene Burchette Rowe, age 85, died on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at Lewes Convalescent Center, Lewes, DE.

Mr. Rowe was born in Cumberland County, KY on March 3, 1919 to the late Eddie Burton Rowe and Lyda Williams Rowe. He was retired from the U. S. Coast Guard. After retirement to Rehoboth Beach in 1976 he worked as a security guard for Henolopen Condominiums.. He was a life member of the VFW.

Mr. Rowe is survived by one son , James E. Rowe of California and a step-daughter Patricia Moore of Rehoboth Beach. on grand child, and 2 great grandchildren, a sister Rhonda Behan of California, and cousin Betty Rappley of Arkansas and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Martha Duco Rowe in 2001.

Memorial Services will be held in the Chapel at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery near Millsboro at 2:00 pm on Wednesday , April 7, 2004. Arrangements are being made by Parsell Funeral Homes &Crematorium, Atkins & Lodge Chapel, 1449 Kings Highway, Lewes, DE
