Keith McCarty
Age 44 of Wilmington, died Saturday, June 30, 2001 in Christiana Hospital.
Keith was a foreman and longtime employee with E. Earle Downing Inc. in Wilmington. He was an avid Harley-Davidson Motorcyclist and a member of the National H.O.G. Keith also liked to draw.
He was predeceased by his father, William A. McCarty. He is survived by his mother, Florence McCarty of Millsboro, DE; his sister, Jo Ann Baker; her husband Jeff of Wilmington and their children, Jim Baker and his wife, Joanne and Kristin Kempcznski and her husband Steve; his sister, Dawn Reamer of Newark and her children, Christopher Reamer and his wife Lori and Brian Reamer and his wife Megan; his sister, Kim Stewicki, and her husband, Henry and their son Kyle, Keith's godson and his great nephews T.J. and Vinny.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial serivce at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek on Thursday July 5, at 4 pm. Burial will be private.

Helen C. Wilkie
Died Friday June 29, 2001 in Gilpin Hall in Wilmington.
Helen was a homemker most of her life and later worked at local nursing homes helping the elderly. She was the daughter of the late James and Julia Montague, and was predeceased by her her 7 brothers and sisters and her husband, George W. Wilkie who died in 1989.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Bogia and her husband Ronald of Dover, DE, Maureen DeLisi and her husband Angelo of Claymont; and her grandchildren Stefanie McGee and her husband Warren and Mark Bogia. Her step granddaughter, Angeline DeLisi Fitzpatrick and her husband Jeffrey; her great granddaughter Mackenzie; and her 4 step great grandchildren, Dylan, Candiice, Ashlii, and Taiilor also survive.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 am Tuesday, July 3 at St. Ann's Church, Gilpin Ave, & Scott Sts. where friends may call after 9:30. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery.

Vogl, Levi V.
Levi V. Vogl, 80, Pebble Valley Place, Dover, passed away Saturday June 30, 2001 at his home in Dover.
He was born on September 20, 1920 in Harrington, DE to John and Wilhelmina (Traeger) Vogl.
He enlisted in the US Navy in 1942 and was sent to Perdue University where he earned his Electrical Engineering Degree. He proudly served as an aircraft electrician in the Pacific Theater, where he saw action on the island of Guadalacanal. He used his education and experience to forge a successful career in industrial electrical construction for the next 40 years. As a member of the Electrical Workers Union Local 313, he constructed electrical systems in many of the major buildings throughout Delaware. No matter what location in the state, there was always at least one building there to which he could explain the history and details of its construction. He retired in 1985. In June 1950, Levi met and married Julia Pratka, with whom he recently celebrated there 51st wedding anniversary. Together, they raised six children. Both avid gofers, Levi and Julie visited and played courses in almost every state in the country as well as the Republic of Panama. Levi was a sports enthusiast during his entore life. He played soccer and was a baseball pitcher in high school. Besides sports, Livi's other favorite pastimes were gardening, tinkering around his home workshop and spending time with his family. He is preceded in death by a son Richard Vogl in 1978 and five brothers Otto, Ernest, Felix, Oswald and Alphonso, and three sisters, Wilhemina, Elsie and Frieda.
He is survived by Wife, Julie Vogl of Dover, DE. Son, Paul Vogl of Smyrna, DE. Daughter, Kathy Pizzadili of Felton, DE. Daughter, Patricia Smart of Dover, DE. Daughter, Frattarelli of Leawood, KA. Daughter, Jeanne Carnahan of Dover, DE. Brother, Alexander Vogl of , MD. 9 Grand Children.
A Celebration of Life Mass Service will be held Thursday 07/05/2001 11:00 AM at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover. Burial will be at the Holy Cross Cem. in Dover.

Gulcznski, Jane Conner
Jane E. (Conner) Gulczynski, age 79, of Newark, formerly of Wilmington, died at Christiana Hospital on Monday, July 2, 2001.
Mrs. Gulczynski began her career with the Wilmington Police Department where she was a meter maid for over 20 years. After her retirement from the WPD, she was best known as the hostess at the Del Rose Café, where she greeted diners for over 25 years. Jane was a former member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and attended St. Anthony of Padua Church. A graduate of Brown Vocational School, Jane was the first female drum majorette in the State of Delaware. In her retirement, she was an avid shuffleboard player. Her husband, Benjamin C. Gulczynski, predeceased her in 1965.
She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Bernadette Schiavello of Frederica, DE, Debra McGonigle of Dover, and Margaret M. Rifenburgh of Wilmington; a son, Benjamin C., Jr. of Wilmington; a brother, Francis Conner of Wilmington; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, July 7 at 10:30 am at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th and Dupont Streets, Wilmington. Interment will be at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington. Lynden H. Stewart
Age 75, of Wilmington, DE, died Monday, July 2, 2001 at the Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE.
Mr. Stewart was born in Redfield, SD and was a graduate of Gayville High School, Class of 1943, in Gayville, SD. He was an Army veteran of WWII (1943-1945). Mr. Stewart was a retired Pastor having served in various PCA (Presbyterian Church in America) congregations, most recently as an Associate Pastor at the Manor Presbyterian Church in New Castle, DE.
Mr. Stewart is preceded in death by his first wife Vera Rodgers Stewart in 1983, his brother, Lorin B. Stewart who died in 1993 and a sister, Leila M. Williams, who died in 1978. He is survived by his wife Doris Burris Stewart of Wilmington, two sons, Darrell C. Stewart and Leland R. Stewart, both of Chattanooga, TN, his daughter, Lynda K. Fazakerly of LaGrange, NC, a step-daughter, Barbara Ann Ulmer of Middletown, DE, a sister, LaVonne Speakman of Billings, MT, 8 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 1 step-great grandchild.
Service will be held 11am, Thursday, July 5, 2001 at the Berea Presbyterian Church of Hockessin, 957 Old Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE where family and friends may visit from 10am to 11am. Another service will be held 10am on Monday, July 9, 2001 at the Ray, Cantrell and Wintz Funeral Home, 2901 Douglas Ave., Yankton, SD. Family and friends may visit from 9am-10am. Burial will follow the service in the Mission Hills Cemetery, Mission Hills, SD.

Stewart, Carson W.
"Kit" Carson W. Stewart, of Dover, formerly of Philadelphia, died Monday, July 2, 2001 at home. He was 61 years old.
Mr. Stewart was born in Philadelphia, PA on February 9, 1940, son of the late Wesley and Marie Stewart.
Following his service in the US Navy, Kit became an entertainer, and considered his vocation that of spreading happiness. He led and played drums for the "Kit Kats" in the early and mid sixties, and with Carl Hausman, co-wrote 2 hit singles; "Let's Get Lost on a Country Road" and "Won't Find Better Than Me". While living in West Chester, PA, he sold produce as "The Gay Street Vendor". He created and appeared at many events in Pennsylvania and Delaware as "The Giant Carrot Man", entertaining children and teaching them about nutrition. Kit also produced and hosted the Comcast Cable TV show "Young at Heart".
He is survived by his wife of 5 years, Marcia Morin of Dover; 4 sons, Carson Stewart of Philadelphia, PA, Scott Wilson of Newark, Brian Wilson of Marion, NC, and Drew Wilson of Dover; 2 daughters, Sunday Stewart-Louis of Roanoke, VA, and Brienne Stewart of Philadelphia, PA; 5 sisters, Barbara Zettle of Challis, ID, Nancy Jaskolski of Maple Shade, NJ, Kathleen Bytof of Philadelphia, PA, Karen Stewart of Cape May, NJ, and Patricia Meehan of Philadelphia, PA; 6 brothers, Tom Stewart of Mt. Laurel, NJ, Raymond, Robert and Joseph Stewart all of Philadelphia, PA, James Stewart of Buena Vista, NJ, and Richard Stewart of Newark, NJ; and numerous nieces and nephews.

McMakin, Jr., Joseph P.
Joseph P. McMakin, Jr., age 85, of Wilmington, died at Millcroft Retirement Community in Newark on Wednesday, July 4, 2001.
Mr. McMakin was a member of the Refrigeration Service Engineers Society and a longtime member of Corpus Christi Church. His wife, Bernadine (Hamilton) McMakin, died in 1977. He is survived by his son, Joseph M. McMakin of Macungie, PA, and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, July 6 at 11 am at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, where friends may call after 10 am. Patterson, Curtis B.
CURTIS B. PATTERSON, age 92 of Hockessin, died Sunday, July 1, 2001 in Westminster Village Assisted Living Center in Dover.
Mr. Patterson spent 44 years with the DuPont Co., retiring in 1973 as a Safety and Fire Consultant to the Textile Fibers Department.
Born in Ontario, CA to Osman and Mildred Patterson, Mr. Patterson grew up in Baraboo, WI, Philadelphia, PA, and Buffalo, NY. He came to Wilmington in 1941 to help begin the DuPont Co. safety program, and watch it become the standard for the industry.
Mr. Patterson was appointed in 1954 to the Conrad High School District Board of Education, of which he later served as president. He was chair of the building committee that led to the construction of John Dickinson High School in 1960. He was the president of both the Krebs and Conrad PTAs.
Active with the Boy Scouts of America from his youth, he led Troop 88 in Newport and led Del-Mar-Va Council troops to both the 1952 and 1956 national jamborees at Valley Forge. He was awarded a Silver Beaver by the Del-Mar-Va Council for his services at the troop, district and council level.
An expert and judge of the first day postage stamp covers the accompany new stamp issues, he was a charter member and served as president of the American First Day Cover Society, which named him an Honorary Life Member. He was a founding member of the Delaware Highland Games in Fair Hill, MD and a twenty-year volunteer at the Hagley Museum.
An original resident of Coffee Run Condominium near Hockessin, he served as chairman of the Rules and Documents Committee of the Condominium Council for several decades. He was a member of the Red Clay Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Verna Greatorex Patterson; two sons, Wayne C. Patterson and his wife Jane, of Parker, CO, and Gary B. Patterson and his wife Betsy, of Dover; three grandchildren, Gregory B. Patterson and his wife Sarah, Christopher D. Patterson and his wife Kerri, all of Dover, and Elizabeth Seton L. Patterson of Charlotte, NC; and three great-granddaughters, Katharyn, Emma and Reilly Patterson, all of Dover.
A private service for immediate family members was held Monday, July 2 in Dover. A memorial and interment service will be scheduled for a later date.

Zablotny, Genevieve
On Saturday, July 7, 2001, an angel returned home. Mrs. Genevieve Zablotny, age 91, of Wilmington, worked in sales at John Wanamaker’s for many years. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter “Bus” Zebeley.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Zwickert; her grandchildren, Christian Zwickert and Susan Harrington; two great granddaughters, Ashley and Elizabeth, all of Wilmington.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 9 at 10 am at St. Elizabeth Church, Cedar and Clayton Streets, Wilmington. Friends are invited to call on Sunday evening from 6 pm to 8 pm at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington. Interment will be at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.
Alisa, Madeleine
Madeleine Alisa, age 75, of Klair Estates, passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, July 7, 2001.
Mrs. Alisa began her career as a fountain manager for Eckerd Drugs at the Merchandise Mart for over 10 years. She was a cook for Stanton Middle School and for Meadowood School for over 10 years. She retired in 1994 as a dietary supervisor for Parkview Nursing Home where she worked for 12 years. Mrs. Alisa received a degree in Food Service Management from Delaware Technical Community College at age 60. She was a member of St. John the Beloved Catholic Church and a member of the Mall Walkers. She was an avid cook and gardener, and enjoyed operas and plays. She sang at many local weddings.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Joseph Alisa; three daughters, Carol Valentine of Newark, Shirley Thomure-White of Landenberg, and Madeleine Boleslawski of Wilmington; nine grandchildren, Michelle Zechman, Michael Valentine, Madeleine Wisniewski, Angel Godek, Krystyna and Allie Boleslawski, Todd White, Dan and Robin Murphy; ten great grandchildren, Aubrey, David, Sydney, Emily, Timothy, Megan, Sarah, Joseph, Ethan, and Colin. She is also survived by two brothers, Willian Heine of New York and Paul Heine of Virginia Beach; and a sister, Virginia “Gini” Bean of Annapolis, MD.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 10 am at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington. Friends are invited to call on Wednesday evening between 6 pm and 8 pm at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.
