Constance V. Dancu, Ph.D. (Author, Lecturer and Renowned Psychologist in Cognitive & Behavior Therapy)
Constance Vought Dancu, Ph.D., age 63, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, friend and colleague, passed away July 5, 2001, at home in Newark, Delaware, after a brave struggle with cancer.
Dr. Dancu was born October 23, 1937, in Hawthorne, New Jersey. She was raised in rural New Jersey and spent many years in the Washington, D.C., area where her father was a diplomat during World War II.
She attended George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where she was a cheerleader and member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. It was there that she met and soon married her husband of 45 years, George Dancu.
Much to her family’s pride, as her children got older, she pursued her advanced education in earnest, completing her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Nazareth College, Rochester, New York, in 1977, Master of Arts in Psychology from West Chester State University, West Chester, Pennsylvania, in 1979, and Doctor of Philosophy, Counselor Education, from University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1988.
She was a Licensed Psychologist in the State of Delaware and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Throughout her career, Dr. Dancu touched and improved the lives of thousands of patients and their family members with her clinical expertise and her kind, compassionate demeanor.
Dr. Dancu served on the faculty of several outstanding academic institutions including, most recently, as Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychology at University of Pennsylvania Health Systems, Department of Psychiatry, School of Medicine. Other academic affiliations included Allegheny University of Health Sciences/Medical College of Pennsylvania & Hahnemann University, Medical College of Pennsylvania at Eastern Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute, and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
In 1994, Dr. Dancu founded The Center for Cognitive and Behavior Therapy, L.L.C. (CCBT) in North Wilmington, Delaware, thus fulfilling her dream of providing cognitive and behavior therapy care in the areas of post-traumatic stress disorders, social phobia, agoraphobia and stress management, and mentoring other practitioners. It is now one of the largest mental health practices in Delaware.
She was a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychological Specialties and a Board Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress. She lectured and published extensively, including the co-authorship in 1999 of “Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment for Adult Survivors of Childhood Trauma: Imagery Rescripting and Reprocessing.” She also appeared on numerous television and radio programs discussing a variety of mental health issues, including CBS’s “48 Hours Program.”
In 1999, Dr. Dancu was appointed by Governor Thomas Carper to the Delaware State Board of Examiners of Psychologists, where she served as Vice President. She was also on the Behavioral Advisory Committee of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware, Inc., the Coordinating Council Against Sexual Assault in Delaware, the Women Organized Against Rape (WOAR) Future Search Summit Planning Committee, the Philadelphia Coalition for Victim Advocacy and the Sexual Assault Program Committee of Philadelphia.
She was a member and past President of the Delaware Psychological Association. She was also a member of the American Psychological Association, Association for the Advancement of Behavior Therapy and American College of Forensic Examiners.
Dr. Dancu enjoyed golf and was a member of The Philadelphia Country Club. In recent years, the Dancu family adopted Bethany Beach, Delaware, as their second home and spent many wonderful days there together.
In addition to her husband, George, Dr. Dancu is survived by her children, Constance Breeden and her husband, Larry, of Falls Church, Virginia, John Dancu and his wife, Anna, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Chris Dancu and his wife, Pam, of Charlotte, North Carolina; and seven grandchildren, Lauren, George, Alex, Eric, Victoria, Cambria and Amadea; her father, George McDavitt of Phoenix, Arizona; and her sister, Louise Cushman, of Phoenix, Arizona.
The funeral and internment services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 226 Righters Mill Road, Gladwyne, Pennsylvania, (610) 642-8920. A reception will follow at the church.

Green, Mary E.
Mary E. Green of Smyrna, Delaware, died in Greenmeadows, Dover, Delaware, Sunday, July 8, 2001.
She was 77.
Mrs. Green was born August 27, 1923 in Felton, Delaware, the daughter of the late John T. and Elizabeth Vincent Ware.
Mrs. Green was a homemaker who enjoyed sewing and crafts.
She was a member of the V.F.W. Post #8801 Ladies Auxillary and a member of the Delaware Agriculture Museum and Village.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Green in 1996 and a daughter, Sharon Valdesere in 2000.
She is survived by a son, Frank Green Jr. of Setauket, New York;
6 daughters, Susan McCoy of Heidelburgh, Germany; Lois Ergenzinger of Dover, Delaware; Linda Kurry of Smyrna, Delaware; Barbara Betts of Bear, Delaware; Kathy Green of Dover, Delaware and Margie VanDyke of Salisbury, Maryland; 1 brother, Vincent Ware of Felton, Delaware; 4 sisters, Jacqueline Hall, Margaret Ware, Ruth Kemp and Jean Kish all of Felton, Delaware; 21 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Services will be Friday July 13, 2001 at 1PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware where friends may call 1 hour before services.
Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, Delaware.
Zimmerman, Joseph Chrisian
Joseph C. Zimmerman, 71, Bayside Dr., Dover, passed away Wednesday June 20, 2001 at KGH Bay Health Dover.
He was born on June 18, 1930 in Long Island, NY to Christian and Louise (Morreale) Zimmerman.
After moving to Delaware in January 1944, he assisted his father and brothers with developing farmland that now encompasses the Dover Air Force Base area. He later struck out on his own and developed a large family potato and grain farm, Broad Acres, Inc. in the Dover Leipsic area which he has been farming for over 50 years. During his free time he has enjoyed traveling with the Delaware Farm Bureau, of which he was a member, and bowling on the State Police Bowling Leage. He was also an avide hunter, fisherman, and gardener. He is preceded in death by a brother Christian Zimmerman and a sister Louise Wisneski..
He is survived by Wife, Elizabeth Ann Short Zimmerman of Dover, DE. Son and his wife, Joseph C. and Jeanne Zimmerman, Jr. of Milford, DE. ,Son and his wife Dan M. and Lori Zimmerman of Dover, DE. Son and his wife, Fredrick D. and Joan Zimmerman of Dover, DE. Daughter and her husband, Nancy Z. and Joel Kroeger of Bridgeville, DE. Brother, Henry "Hank" Zimmerman of Magnolia, DE. Brother, Frank T. Zimmerman of Dover, DE. 12 Grandchildren .

Brown, Elizabeth "Babe" M.
Elizabeth M. “Babe” Brown, age 84, of Harrington, DE, died June 21, 2001 at the Milford Center, Milford, DE.
Babe Brown of Harrington died Thursday, June 21, 2001 after a lengthy illness in Milford Center. She had been ill for the last nine years, and was cared for by her life-long companion and loving husband, Irving “Brownie” Brown. Mrs. Brown was born to the late Rhoda and James Morris on April 10, 1917. She loved to go shopping with her sister, Laura, planting flowers and fixing Sunday dinners for her family. She retired from Playtex in 1980 after 35 years of service.
In addition to her parents, the late James and Rhonda Morris, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers James, Albert, and Bob, three sisters Delma, Maggie, and Laura.
She is survived by her loving Husband of 61 years Irving “Brownie” Brown of Harrington, a son Richard and wife Judy Brown of Harrington, a daughter Phyllis and husband Bobby Murphy of Laurel, grandchildren: Holly Lapinsky, Bryan and Prudence Murphy, Rick Brown, Christal Corson, and Billie Jo Cooper, and great grandchildren: Tyler and Kurt Lapinsky, Samantha, Zachery, June Marie, and Taylor Murphy, Brennen and Mya Brown, Kirstyn Corson, Macy, Marissa, and Charly Cooper, and Chance Boone.
Services will be Sunday, June 24, 2001, at 2:00 PM at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Viewing wil be one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Tim Isley will be officiating. Internment will be at the Hopkins Cemetery, Felton, DE.
Alfree, Georgeann
Georgeann Alfree Age 45 of Newark died peacefully at home on Monday, June 18 surrounded by her family.
Ms. Alfree was employed as a support rep. for MBNA in Ogletown for the past 10 years. She enjoyed listening to country music and collecting Indian memorabilia. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed.
She is survived by 1 daughter, Nicole and 1 son, Dustin, both of home; her parents with whom she lived, Harry J. and Joyce A. Alfree of Newark; her maternal grandmother, Susie Sartin; 2 sisters, Fay Sarto and her husband John of Dracut, MA and Kathy Alfree of Newark; 2 brothers, Kevin Alfree and his wife -Vicky of Rainsville, AL and Butch Alfree, also of Rainsville; her beloved grandchildren, Ashley, Johnathon and Matthew, 5 nieces and 5 nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 21 at 11 am in the DANIELS & HUTCHISON FUNERAL HOME, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown. Friends may call Wed. evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Townsend Cemetery. (06/19/2001)
Murray, Clarence N.
Clarence N. "Gint" Murray Age 85 of Middletown passed away peacefully on Wed. morning, June 20, 2001 at his home.
Mr. Murray operated a dairy farm near Summit, DE and had also worked for Woodstock Farms near Chesapeake City, MD and at St. Georges Lumber Co. He was a past member of Bethel Church, St. Georges United Methodist, and Bethesda U.M. Church in Middletown. He was also involved with the Middletown Pony Club. He was predeceased by his wife, Katherine Rose Murray in 1986.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Pamela Rose Baker and JoAnn Lovett, both of Middletown; 2 sisters, Dorothy Harrison of Osterville, MA and Esther Cann of Glenwood, IA; 5 grandchildren, Leighton and Sara Baker and Katie, Laura and Kelsey Lovett.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday morning June 23 at 11 am in Bethel Cemetery near Chesapeake City, MD. There will be no viewing, and in lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Delaware Hospice or Meals on Wheels.

Johnson, Frank E.
Frank E. Johnson Age 92 of Odessa passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2001 at his daughter's home.
Mr. Johnson had retired form the State Hwy. Dept. and had also farmed in the Kirkwood area most of his life. He had also worked for Continental Diamond Fiber in Newark and Glasgow Farm & Home Supply prior to working for the State. He served in the National Guard and was a member and past treasurer of Redmen's Lodge Tribe #46 in Newark, and was a former Deputy Sheriff for New Castle Co. in the 1950's. He was also a member of the US Trotters Association and loved owning and caring for his horses. His wife, Edna died in 1984.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Ann Przychodzien and her husband Joe of Honey Brook, PA and Helen George, with whom he lived with in Odessa, and a foster son, George Hudson of Smyrna, 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter. Funeral Services will be held on Wed. June 20 at 11 am in the DANIELS & HUTCHISON FUNERAL HOME, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 7-9 pm. Green, Ruth E.
Ruth E. Green Age 72 of Dover, DE passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2001 in Kent General Hospital in Dover.
Mrs. Green retired in 1972 from New Castle County.
Her husband of 47 years, Bill Green of Dover; a loving great niece and nephew, Ruth and Lee Dixon and their daughter Taylor of Dover; a sister, Katherine Griffin of Virginia Beach, VA; and 2 nieces and a nephew all survive her.
The service and burial will be handled privately.
