Bridleback, Elizabeth Brooks

Elizabeth Brooks Bridleback Of Nonexistence, DE died suddenly Thursday, July 10, 2001.

Our beloved wife, mother and grandmother was born August 14, 1932 in Portsmouth, VA. After attending Radford College in 1953, she married William H. Bridleback and relocated to NJ, where she lived for 12 years and had 3 children. In 1967 they moved to Nonexistence, VA where she lived most of her adult life and raised their family. She was active in school, community and church affairs. She was employed as a medical secretary and was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, where she participated in RCIA activities and marriage encounter. Upon retirement in 1993, they relocated to Nonexistence, VA. She was a member of St. Edmond's Roman Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharistic minister to the sick and a Salt & Light volunteer. She was also a volunteer at the Bybee Medical Center. She was an active member of the ABTB Women's Club and the Community Property Owners Association. She was also an avid bowler and an advanced bridge participant as a player/instructor. "Libby" and Bill joyfully renewed their marriage vows and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 16, 2001. Her passing has created a void that can never be filled in the lives of her family, numerous friends and countless recipients of her volunteer work.

She is survived by her husband, William H. Bridleback; children, Lynn G. Fitzgerald and her husband Mark E. of South Mills, VA, Susan G. Hannigan and her husband Geoffrey M. of Hill, NJ and William R. Bridleback and his wife Linda S. of Browne, ME. Her 2 sisters, Carolyn B. Arruda of Williamsport, RI, Kay B. Foley of Portsmouth, NH; and 5 grandchildren, Jaclyn S. and Sean M. Fitzgerald, Bridget B. Hannigan and William W. and Samuel B. Bridleback also survive. She was predeceased by her parents, Melvin T. and Mary F. Brooks of San Francisco, CA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, July 18 at St. Edmond's Catholic Church, King Charles & Laurel Sts., Nonexistence, VA. Friends may call 7-9 pm Thursday, July 17 at the U. SAMPLE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIUM, 1449 Kings Hwy., Nonexistence.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Assoc., c/o Jane Bronson, 710 Durner Ave., Nonexistence, VA 23555.

Payne, Purnell Eugene

Purnell Eugene Payne of Laurel, DE, died Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in Seaford, DE. He was 81.

He was born Feb. 3, 1920 in Preston, MD, the son of the late Charles Payne, Sr. and Lillian Hubbard Payne.

He was a World War II Army Veteran. He retired from the former Gant Shirt Company after thirty-one years of service.

He is survived by a daughter, Holly J. Allen with whom he made his home in Laurel, DE, a grandson, Zachary Allen of Laurel, three step-children, Bruce Wingate, Iris Wingate and Dawn Wingate, all of Seaford, DE, 4 step-grandchildren; 1 great-step-grandchild; a sister, Jean Shorter of Salisbury, MD and many nieces and nephews. A step-son, John D. Payne, and two sisters, Louise Heaps and Betty Taylor,and a brother Everett Payne, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 30, at 2:00 p.m. at the Framptom-Hawkins-Eskow Funeral Home, P.A. in Federalsburg, MD. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held on Monday, July 2, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at the Eastern Shore Veterans Cemetery in Hurlock, MD.

Lowman II, James E.

James E. Lowman II of Smyrna, Delaware, died in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital, Thursday February 15, 2001.

He was 27.

Mr. Lowman was born January 29, 1974 in Dover, Delaware, the son of James E. Lowman of Smyrna, Delaware and Chris Lowman also of Smyrna, Delaware.

Mr. Lowman worked as a carpenter for several years and enjoyed horse racing, NASCAR races, watching football and spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by 1 sister, Norma Jean Blevins of Clayton, Delaware; his maternal grandmother, Joyce Vandetti of Cheswold, Delaware and maternal great grandmother, Edna Kuhns of Reedsville, Pennsylvania and several aunts and uncles.

Services will be Tuesday February 20, 2001 at 1PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware, where friends may call 1 hour before the services.

Burial will be in Templeville Cemetery, Templeville, Maryland.

Elliott, Beulah S.

Beulah S. Elliott of Dover, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001.

She was born in Dover, to the late William and Bertha Swiggett. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel, in 1965, and by her brother William Swiggett. Mrs. Elliott worked for Richardson & Robbins, Co., as a food packer.

She is survived by one brother, Francis Swiggett, of Magnolia; one sister, Ethel Harvey, of Dover; a very special niece, Bonnie Brashears; and a very special friend, Fred.

Services will be private.

Considine, Linda Mae

Linda Mae Considine of Camden, DE died Saturday, July 7, 2001 in Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 53.

Mrs. Considine was born in Allentown, PA, the daughter of Gloria Roberts of Bath, PA and the late Ray Roberts of Bath, PA.

She retired from the Elizabeth W. Murphey School after 25 years of employment. She volunteered most of her time to many organizations in the community including her dedication every morning to a local radio station, Heaven 1600 AM. She also was dedicating her time to It's Time Ministries which was founded by her late husband, David S. Considine, and EndTime Harvest Ministries.

Mrs. Considine was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God in Dover and the Modern Maturity Center in Dover.

Linda had a loving personality that touched the hearts of everyone she came in contact with.

She is survived by a son, Scott Considine of Dover; a foster son, Harvey Baker of Wilmington; four sisters, Pat Blaukowitch of Allentown, PA, Rayne Burger of Easton, PA, Brenda Sparrow of Kunkeltown, PA, and Sharon Avery of East Bangor, PA; a brother-in-law, Michael Considine and his wife Kate of Irving, TX; four grandchildren; six nephews and three nieces.

Funeral Services will be held 11AM Friday, July 13, 2001 in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Dover. Letters of condolence may be posted at www.dmvobits.com/torbert

Ashton, Ira

Ira Ashton of Smyrna died Thursday, June 21, 2001 in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 94.

Mr. Ashton was born in British Columbia, Canada on November 26, 1906 to the late McClelland and Alice McClure Ashton. He moved to the Dover area with his parents and later came back to the area after being discharged from the U.S. Coast Guard where he had served 12 years.

He worked as a janitor for 25 years at Playtex and for two years at Reichhold Chemical.

Mr. Ashton was a member of the Lebanon Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, traveling, camping, and collecting stones and rocks.

Mr. Ashton is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Joyce Collins and Gilbert of Milford; a stepdaughter, Jeannette St. Sauveur of Dover; a stepson, Joseph Cassey; nieces, nephews and a large extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine H. Ware Ashton.

Funeral Services will be held 2PM Monday, June 25, 2001 in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Torbert, Heather Covell

Heather Covell Torbert of Dover died Sunday, July 8, 2001 in Kent General Hospital. She was 66.

Ms. Torbert was born in Orange, New Jersey on January 5, 1935 to the late Leonard Augustus Covell and Elizabeth Milbourne Heather Covell. She grew up in Marydel, Maryland and had attended Dover High School. She graduated Fairfax Hall Junior College in Fairfax, Virginia. She had attended Goucher College in Baltimore for two years. She had lived in Dover since 1957.

Ms. Torbert worked as a secretary/receptionist for Catholic Charities in Dover. She also worked for and did volunteer work at the Modern Maturity Center in Dover.

She is survived by a son, William "Bill" Covell Torbert of Dover; a daughter, Lisa HeatherTorbert of Dover; a grandson, Christopher Schellinger of Dover; and a granddaughter, Elena Torbert of Dover.

Funeral Services will be held 11AM Thursday, July 12, 2001 in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd., Dover. Friends may call 7PM to 9PM Wednesday evening. Interment will be in Suddlersville Cemetery, Suddlersville, MD.

Malandrino, Vita

Vita Malandrino of Felton died Sunday, June 17, 2001 in Milford Manor, Milford. She was 92.

Mrs. Malandrino was born in New Jersey on June 2, 1909. She moved from New Jersey to Felton in 1982 to live with her son, Philip Malandrino.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Malandrino had attended St. John's Catholic Church in Milford. She enjoyed crocheting and cooking.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Philip Malandrino.

She is survived by a son, Joseph Malandrino of Indiana; a daughter, Marie Schultz of Scranton, PA; a brother, Tony Minnerinie of Newark, N.J.; a sister, Mary DiFalco of New York, N.Y.; and three grandchildren, Steve Malandrino of Felton, Angela Malandrino at home, and Kristy Ree Hight of Scranton, PA.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Sheppard, Homer H.

Homer H. Sheppard of Camden died Wednesday, July 4, 2001 in Christiana Hospital, Newark. He was 80.

Mr. Sheppard was born in Hartly on March 6, 1921 to the late Amos Sheppard and Carrie Greenwood Sheppard and was raised on the family farm.

He owned and operated, along with his brothers, a logging company - Sheppard Brothers, which worked throughout the state of Delaware and also in Maryland and New Jersey. He had also worked as a groundskeeper/maintenance worker for seven years for the State of Delaware.

Mr. Sheppard was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served his country for three years.

He was a member of the Wyoming United Methodist Church, the VFW #7937 in Greensboro, the Modern Maturity Center in Dover, and the Harrington Senior Center.

Mr. Sheppard enjoyed surf fishing, vegetable gardening, and flower gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Vermie Sheppard of Camden; two sons, Stan Sheppard of Smyrna and Jeff Sheppard and his wife Patricia of Selbyville; a daughter, Linda Quillen and friend Jerry Skinner of Lincoln; a brother, Barny Sheppard of Marydel, MD; three sisters, Mabel Reed of Camden, Marie Walls of Barkley, MD and Mary Walls of Barkley, MD; and five grandchildren, Jennifer Quillen, Dayna Ludwig, Brian Sheppard, Andy Sheppard, and Matthew Coffin.

Funeral Services will be held 11AM Tuesday, July 10, 2001 in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd., Dover. Friends may call 7PM to 9PM Monday evening. Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
