Bickling, Linda
Linda Bickling, of Greenwood, formerly of Dover, died Tuesday, June 19, 2001 in the Harbor Health Care Center, in Lewes. She was 56.
Mrs. Bickling was born in 1944 in Dover, to the late William and Elfreda Conard.
Mrs. Bickling worked as a secretary in the chemical industry, retiring from Helena Chemical Co. in 1996.
She was a member of the People's United Church of Christ of Dover, Capital Grange #18, and the Cowgill's Homemakers Club.
Mrs. Bickling was preceded in death by her husband Frederick, in 1986. She is survived by her daughter, Bronwyn Parmly, of Greenwood, and daughter and son-in-law Deanna and John Bartell, of Greenwood; 2 brothers, Donald Conard of Denton, MD, and Dale Conard of Dover; 5 grandchildren, Justin and Stacey Bickling, Caitlyn Parmly, and Nicholas and Noah Perry; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00a.m., on Friday, June 22, 2001 in the Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover. Friends may call Thursday evening, from 7-9:00p.m. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.
Crawford, Patricia Adams
Patricia Adams Crawford of Hartly died Wednesday, July 4, 2001 in Kent General Hospital, Dover. She was 76.
Mrs. Crawford was born in White Plains, New York on August 3, 1924 to the late Walter L. Adams and Elsie Knapp Adams. She moved from Dobbs Ferry, New York to Delaware seven months ago.
She was a nurse for over 30 years in several types of nursing including industrial, OR, OBGYN, and summer camp nursing.
Mrs. Crawford is survived by her husband of 40 years, Robert D. Crawford; two daughters, Anne Babavovic of London, England and Dee Marvin of Hartly; a son, David Marvin of San Jose, California; two sisters, Ruth Law of Southport, N.C. and Judith Hansen of Michigan; a granddaughter, Elaine Sestito of Hartly; and three great grandchildren.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Taylor, Stephen R.
Stephen R. Taylor of Dover died Sunday, July , 2001 in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 74.
A life-long resident of Delaware, Mr. Taylor was born September 29, 1926 in Wilmington to the late Joseph P. Taylor and A. Elizabeth Ralph Taylor.
Following his service in the U.S. Navy, he spent 36 years in banking, retiring in 1983 as a Vice President and Branch Administration Director. Before retiring, he was appointed to Delaware's State Council on Banking.
He was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Dover and had served as a former lay reader. He was currently serving on the Finance Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Delaware.
Mr. Taylor entered numismatics when he tried to interest his son, Stephen, Jr., in coin collecting and quickly acquired a passion for the hobby, switching to paper money, where he devoted his attentions. Always eager to spread the word of numismatics, he was a frequent speaker at ANA conventions and other coin shows, and frequently gave two presentations that were geared to young collectors, "Paper Money of the United States as a Hobby" and "The Fun of Exhibiting."
He was elected to the American Numismatic Association (ANA) Board of Governors in 1981 and had served as President from 1987-89 and Vice President from 1985-87. During his eight-year tenure on the Board, he served as Chairman of the Club and District Representative Program, having already been an ANA District Delegate and had also served on the personnel, museum, insurance, and exhibits committees. The current ANA Executive Director, Edward C. Rochette, stated upon hearing of Mr. Taylor's death, "The numismatic hobby and the ANA has lost one of its greatest supporters and promoters. Steve was a good friend and a pleasure to know. He made everyone he met feel at ease and welcome in the hobby." As a prolific exhibitor, Mr. Taylor set up displays at numismatic events in more than 30 states and four Canadian provinces, winning many awards for his exhibits including the ANA Howland Wood Memorial Exhibit Award for Best-in-Show at the Association's 87th Anniversary Convention in Houston in 1978, the ANA Glenn Smedley Memorial Award in 1991, and the Medal of Merit in 1997. He was also the MANA's Person of the Year in 1986, Pennsylvania's Outstanding Numismatist in 1982, the Numismatist of the Year for both MANA and the Kent Coin Club, the first recipient of the Pennsylvania Numismatic Association's Frank Gasparro Award, and was named the Numismatic Ambassador by Krause Publication in 1979.
Mr. Taylor was a founder and past President of the Kent Coin Club of Dover for three terms and had originated its monthly newsletter. He also served as the past President of the Milford Stamp & Coin Club in Delaware. He was also a member of the Currency Club of Chester County in Pennsylvania; the Maryland State Numismatic Association where he was a past President; the Middle Atlantic Numismatic Association; the Garden State Numismatic Association in New Jersey where he was a past President; the Virginia Numismatic Association; the Great Eastern Numismatic Association and the Empire State Canadian Numismatic Association in New York. He was an active exhibitor of items in his collection and was a popular speaker at coin clubs, convention educational forums, as well as school groups and community organizations.
Mr. Taylor served on the board of the Society of Paper Money Collectors and was most recently given its Award of Merit for his years of dedicated service. He also served on the boards of the YMCA, Rotary Club, Dover Chamber of Commerce, American Cancer Society, Delaware Small Business Administration, and was campaign Chairman of the United Way of Delaware. He was a former member of the Joy Club.
He is survived by his wife, Beulah; a son, Stephen R. Jr. of Dover; a daughter, Barbara Harvath of Dover; and four grandchildren, Amanda Fournier and her husband Matthew, Brandon Harvath, Laura Harvath, and Katie Harvath all of Dover.
Funeral Services will be held 11AM Friday, July 6, 2001 in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd., Dover. Friends may call 7PM to 9PM Thursday evening and one hour prior to the service. Rev. Celeste Cox will be officiating. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.

Charles J. Walsh, Sr. 68, of 1780 Stonybrook Drive Ft. Pierce, Fl 34945
formerly of Claymont,De died July 12, 2001 in Ft. Pierce, Fl.
Mr. Walsh was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
He was a Scrap Supervisor at Phoenix Steel Corp. for 35yrs and an employee of Holy Rosary Catholic Church; a member of the Knights of Columbus since 1961 and was a Past Board Member of the Golden Ponds Home Owners Assoc. where he lived.
He was also a member of St. Anastasia Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 46years, Margaret Walsh, Fort Pierce; daughters Deborah Carville, Middletown, Del. Patricia Lemon, Wilmington, Del.; sons Charles Walsh, Jr., Rehoboth, Del., George Walsh, Townsend, Del., John Walsh, Lake George, CO; brother Joseph Walsh, Fort Pierce; sisters in law, Jeannette Walsh, Fort Pierce, Kathleen Foster, New Castle, Del. and eight grandchildren.
Memorial Mass will be held Saturday July 28, 2001 at 10am at Holy Rosary Church, Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, Del.

Johnson, Henrietta
Henrietta V. “Hennie” “Aunt Hennie” Johnson of Cheswold died Thursday, June 7, 2001, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital in Dover. She was 92.
Mrs. Johnson was born January 18, 1909, daughter of the late Charles E. Carey and Dells M. Carey. She was the last Carey survivor of seven children.
She was a lifelond resident of the Cheswold area where she met and married Willis M. “Bill” Johnson on January 8, 1927. Of this union was born four children.
She was a homemaker but sometimes worked out of the home doing various jobs such as factory, housecleaning, which she loved, and her last job as manager of a Laundromat next to Shore Stop in Route 42. She retired from that job about 15 years ago.
She loved children. She was somewhat of a segregate mother to several children for working parents, loving and caring for them from infancy to the beginning of school and even longer. Some of these children are now married and have children of their own and still keep in contact with her. Some did, and still do call her grandma. Her family, home and flowers were her pride and joy. She was an avid wrestling fan and missed very few shows. Some of the young people came in and watched the wrestling with her. Her enthusiasm made it fun to be with her. She also enjoyed sitting on her front porch swing with her grandson, Clinton, Jr., and her friends. She will be sorely missed by all.
Mrs. Johnson was the oldest member of Immanuel Union Methodist Church in Cheswold. She gave her heart to the Lord on November 25, 1956.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Johnson.
She is survived by four children, Willis Return Johnson of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Dolores Carney Rivers and her husband Osvaldo of Dover, Ardella Durham and her husband, Clinton Sr., of Cheswold, and Stanley L. Johnson and his wife Patricia Hayes Johnson, of Felton; a daughter-in-law, Marian Johnson, of whom she was very fond of, Richmond California; nine grandchildren, Wilson L. (Pete) Carney of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, Paula Wimmer of pinole, California, Brenda Ramos of El Cerrito, California, Clinton Durham Jr., Steven Durham and Keith, all of Cheswold, Micheal Johnson of Harrington and Jason Johnson of Felton; 16 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and a great-great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
Friends may call from7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Union United Methodist Church, Del. 13 & 42, Cheswold.
Service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Burial will be in Fork Branch Cemetery, Dover.

Dill, Archie
Archie Dill, age 87, of Felton, DE, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, at the Felton Convalescent Home, Felton, DE.
Archie was born January 18, 1914 son of Manlove and Mary (Mame) Dill near Whitleysburg, DE. He attended the Thomas School and the Felton High School. Mr. Dill was a farmer all of his life in the Felton area. He was a life member of the Felton Community Volunteer Fire Co., trustee of the Manship United Methodist Church, honorary trustee of the now Manship Chapel, member of the Felton I.O.O.F. Lodge #30 and Sarah Rebekah Lodge # 16, and a committeeman for A.S.C.S. for 15 years. Mr. Dill was also a member of the Delaware Farm Bureau and the Harrington Senior Center.
He was preceded in death by three brothers - John, James, and Roy Dill, two sisters - Hazel Black and Irene Bickling.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years: Jeanette Dill of Felton, 5 sisters: Janie Walls of Greensboro, MD, Hilda Donovan of Houston, Linda Ellis of Laurel, Helen Dyer of Harrington, Anna Daniels of Woodside, a Godchild: Carrie J. Duncan of Harrington, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be Friday, June 22, 2001, at 11:00 AM, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Visistation will be Thursday evening from 7 to 9 pm. Officiating will be Pastor Bruce Tribbitt of Manship Chapel and Rev. James Walls. Internment will be at the Hopkins Cemetery, Felton, DE.

Griffin, Robert W.
Robert W. Griffin, Sr., 80, of Wilmington, died at his residence on Monday, June 18, 2001.
Mr. Griffin retired in 1985 from Crowell Corporation in Newport where he worked for 16 years. Prior to his employment there, Mr. Griffin worked for the Koppers Company for 26 years. He was an Army Veteran of World War II. His wife, Patty (White) Griffin died in 1999.
He is survived by two sons, Robert, Jr., of New Castle and Steven of Newark; three grandchildren, Steven Joseph and Paul R. Griffin, and Dawn Russell; a great grandchild, Laura Marie Russell; two brothers, Lawrence, of Wilmington and Ralph of Kennett Square; three sisters, Violet Bush and Nellie Sluder, both of Wilmington, and Leona Mayfield of Fenwick Island. He is also survived by two daughters from a previous marriage.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 22 at 1:00 pm at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, where friends are invited to call after 12 noon. Interment will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle.
