Marian Hanby “Manny” Walker,
retired PE teacher
Marian Hanby “Manny” Walker, 89, of Pike Creek, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at home.
Mrs. Walker was a physical education teacher at William Penn High School, Lore School, Warner Junior High School and retired from Wilmington High School in 1971.
She was a graduate of A.I. duPont High School and West Chester State Teachers College, and received her master’s degree from Temple University.
From 1947 to 1955, she was the supervisor of physical education for the state Department of Education. She was rated National Official in Hockey and Basketball and received the Service Award from the Delaware Physical Education Association. She was head counselor for the Wilmington Summer Day Camp and J.C.C. Day Camp.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Earl V. Walker; a son, Lawrence Walker and his wife Roxanne of Pike Creek; three granddaughters, Jessica L. Peace and her husband Mark of Elkton, Md., Katherine E. Walker of Columbia, Md. and Sarah Boyce Walker of Pike Creek; three great-grandchildren, Jenna, Romeil and Gianna; two nephews, Stephan A. Vandever of Lewes and Edwin Pennington of Wilmington; and three godchildren, Dr. S. Mark Cross, Scott M. Cross and Trudy E. Cross and their mother, Nancy Dever.
Services were held at McCrery Memorial Chapel, Wilmington, with burial in St. James Episcopal Church cemetery , Mill Creek Hundred.

Evelyn G. MacCloskey,
retired from DuPont
Evelyn G. MacCloskey, 82, of Wilmington, passed away quietly Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, in Christiana Hospital.
Mrs. MacCloskey was born July 31, 1922, in Pungoteague, Va. A graduate of Central High School in Painter, Va., and Goldey Beacom Business School, she was employed for many years by the DuPont Company.
She and her family were longtime residents of Deerhurst. Since her retirement, she and her husband wintered in Panama City Beach, Fla. She was a member of the DuPont Country Club and Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Robert; two sons, Guy of Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach and Robert Jr. and his wife Ellie of Wilmington; a brother, William A. Guy of Salisbury, Md.; and her sister, Gladys Smith of Pungoteague, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Aldersgate Methodist Church, Wilmington, with burial private.

Kenneth C. Walters,
retired factory worker
Kenneth C. Walters, 62, of Millsboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005.
Mr. Walters was born in Chester, Pa. and was a retired factory laborer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred “Judy” Walters in 1994.
He is survived by three daughters, Karen Wood and her husband William, Cheryl Tucker and her husband Ray Jr. and Keni-Joy Walters-Clark and her husband Levin Clark Jr.; a brother, Joe; a sister, Barbara; and two grandchildren, Jennifer Tucker and Karrah Clark.
Services were private.

Margaret D. Newcomb,
Native of Lewes
Margaret D. Polite Newcomb, 86, of Harbeson, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at Bayhealth Center, Milford.
She was born Jan. 6, 1919 in Lewes, to the late Theodore and Gertrude (Wells) Newcomb. Mrs. Newcomb was a member of Midway Assembly of God.
She is survived by her daughter, Judith Newcomb Lee of Harbeson; two sons, Harold Newcomb of Dover and Patrick Newcomb of Lincoln; two sisters, Cecilia Hudson of Lewes and Alberta Cowan of Harbeson; one brother, Andrew Polite of Lewes; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 17. Friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Henlopen Memorial Park in Milton. John J. Turansky,

John J. Turansky, 85, of Rehoboth Beach, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mr. Turansky was born Dec. 2, 1919, in Coatesville, Pa., to the late Francis and Rosalia (Macho) Turansky.
Mr. Turansky was a U.S. Navy Radio Operator during World War II. After the war, he worked as a foreman at Lukens Steel in Coatesville for 40 years before retiring to Rehoboth Beach. While living in Coatesville, he was a Valley Township policeman and he was chairman of the Valley Township Board of Supervisors. Once he moved to Rehoboth Beach, Mr. Turansky was an usher for many years at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church; he was a former board member of the Lewes Senior Center; he was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels; and he was a member of the American Legion Post 28, Oak Orchard; a member of the VFW in Ocean View; and a member of Elks Lodge 2540 BPOE for 11 years. In addition, he was an avid gardener and fisherman and he enjoyed music and dancing.
He was preceded in death by his wife Emily Vanderslice Turansky. He is survived by his son, John Turansky, and his daughter-in-law June of Lewes; one grandson, J. P. Turansky, and his very dear friend and companion, Jo N. Ditto of Lewes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Jan. 15, at 11 a.m. at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, Route 1, north of Five Points, Lewes. Friends may call Friday, Jan. 14, 6 – 8 p.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes where an Elks service will be conducted at 7 p.m. and a Rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m.
A graveside service will be held Monday, Jan. 1,7 at 1 p.m., at St. Stanislaus Kostka cemetery , Coatesville, Pa.

Eldora C. Chorman,

Eldora C. Chorman, 81, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Chorman was born in Milton, the daughter of the late Arthur and Georgia Clifton Shockley. She was a homemaker, devoting her life to her family, especially her children and grandchildren,. and to her husband, David H. Chorman, until his pasting in 1986.
She attended Whites Chapel U.M. Church.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Bob Coulbourne of Lewes; four sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Mary Ann Chorman of Milton, Ronald and Janice Chorman of Millsboro, Wayne and Janet Chorman of Milton; and Dennis and Debbie Chorman of Millsboro; and five grandchildren, Robb Coulbourne, Sommer Chorman, Jeff Chorman and wife Molly,, Ricky Chorman and Elaine Chorman.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 15, at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton, where friends may call after noon. Burial will be in Whites Chapel cemetery , Milton.

Margaret A. Newill,
hospital volunteer
Margaret A. Newill. 81, of rural Millsboro and formerly of Claymont, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.
Mrs. Newill was born in Chester, Pa., the daughter of the late Thomas and Florence Hiorth Titus.
She was an active member of the AARP and was a volunteer at the Beebe Medical Center in Lewes for 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Albert F. Newill, in 2000.
She is survived by a son, Albert F. Newill Jr. and his wife Wanda of Elkton, Md.; three daughters, Barbara Morris of Towson, Md., Ruth Sova and her husband Dan of Tacoma, Wash., and Wendy Pyle and her husband Ron of Townsend; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck, with burial in Chester Rural cemetery , Chester, Pa.

Evelyn R. Lubiniecki,
retired from Allen Foods
Evelyn R. Lubiniecki, 77, of Georgetown, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md.
Mrs. Lubiniecki was born in Pennsburg, Pa., daughter of the late Norman and Viola Fegley Ziegenfuss. She moved to Georgetown in 1947.
She was employed by Allens Family Foods in Harbeson for 40 years, retiring in 1991.
She enjoyed doing puzzles, watching game shows and NASCAR races on Sundays and mostly spending time with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jan Lubiniecki.
She is survived by three sons and three daughters-in-law, Ronald and Eunice Lubiniecki of Laurel, Jan and Carrie Lubiniecki of Selbyville and Robin and Babette Lubiniecki of Lewes; two sisters, Beatrice Hill of Lewes and Dorothy Schantz of Quakertown, Pa.; and four grandchildren, Marcia Hearn, Rebecca Lubiniecki, Stephanie Lubiniecki and Michael Lubiniecki.
Services were held at Short Funeral Services, Georgetown, with burial in Union cemetery.
Bertha Jackewicz,
Dover homemaker
Bertha Jackewicz, 78, of Dover, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2004, at Capitol Nursing Home.
Born May 28, 1926 in Riverhead, N.Y., she was the daughter of Bruno and Althea Bobinski. A graduate of Riverhead High School, she worked as an operator for the Bell Telephone Company until her marriage in 1949. In 1953, she and her husband Anthony moved to Dover, where they operated Round Barn farms on South Little Creek Road.
Blessed with a kind, compassionate nature, Mrs. Jackewicz was a homemaker who was devoted to children and grandchildren. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church.
Mrs. Jackewicz was preceded in death by Anthony, her husband of 31 years.
She is survived by her three sons and their families; Anthony and Melissa Jackewicz and their children Jason and Elisabeth of Lewes, John and Diane Jackewicz and their son Evan, of Dover, Paul and Patti Jackewicz and their children Jessica and Paul of Rehoboth Beach; two sisters; Edith Pendulik of Southhampton, N.Y., Theodora Czartosieski of Southold, N.Y., and three brothers, Bruno Bobinski of Yaphank, NY, Joseph Bobinski of Pompano Beach, Fla. and George Bobinski of Loveland, Ohio.
A visitation will be held at Trader’s Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Drive, Dover, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 14. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, South State Street, Dover, at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, with burial in Holy Cross cemetery , Dover.

Jack Ernest Lawson,
VFW life member
Jack Ernest Lawson, 87, of Lewes, died Tuesday, January 4, 2005, at Lewes Convalescent Center.
Mr. Lawson was born in Ramsey, England. He was a life member of VFW 7447, Rehoboth Beach; and a past member of the American Legion. He enjoyed boating and fishing. Mr. Lawson spent five years in the U.S. Army during WWII and five years in the National Guard. He retired from the Somerset Investigating Company in 1971. He moved to Sussex County from New Jersey 16 years ago.
Mr. Lawson had no immediate survivors.
He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth (DeWitt) Lawson in 1992, and his daughter Violet Lawson.
Interment will be private.

Beatrice Miller Hayt,

Beatrice Miller Hayt, 94, of Lincoln, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, in Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, Smyrna.
Mrs. Hayt was born in Leonia, Fla., the daughter of the late John Martin and Mattie S. Padgett Miller. She was a homemaker who enjoyed harness racing and gardening.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Hayt, in June 1970; and eight brothers and sisters.
She is survived by two sons, Stephen Hayt and William Hayt, both of Lincoln; a daughter and son-in-law, Dixie and Bill Betts of Milton; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Rose Roberts,

Rose Johnson Roberts, 95, of Rehoboth Beach, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005, in Natick, Mass. Born in Fall River, Mass. on Sept. 2, 1909, she was the daughter of Michael and Mary (Henry) Johnson. A graduate of BMC Durfee High School in Fall River, she married Charles “Gibby” Roberts in 1936. They resided in Silver Springs, Md., where she worked for over 25 years for the Hecht Company. She and Gibby retired to Rehoboth Beach in 1969. She moved to Natick in Nov. 2004 to be near her niece, Charlotte Palmer Roy, and nephew Howell Palmer, of whom she was especially fond. Rose was an active volunteer locally with over three decades of service at Beebe Hospital, St. Edmond’s Catholic Church as a Eucharistic Minister, and Cape Henlopen Senior Center. She also enjoyed gardening, crocheting, serving others and especially spending time with her many loyal friends. Her love of friends family and church will be forever missed.Rose was predeceased by her husband Gibby, who died Feb. 4, 1974; a sister, Kaye Duffy; and brothers Joseph Johnson and James Johnson. She is survived by her sister, Mary Palmer of Medfield, Mass., and several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, Jan. 14 at 11 a..m. at St. Edmond’s Catholic Church, King Charles and Laurel streets. Rehoboth Beach. Graveside services will be Saturday, Jan. 15, at 11 a.m. at the Epworth Methodist cemetery , Henlopen Avenue, Rehoboth Beach.
