Crawford, Robert D.
Robert D. Crawford of Dover died Friday, July 20, 2001 in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 81.
Mr. Crawford was born in Dobbs Ferry, New York to the late Albert and Anna Dana Crawford.
He worked as a construction laborer for the union in Westchester County, New York and had helped to build many of the Corporate Centers in that area in the 1950s. He had also worked for Rochambeau Liquors in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. and for the Westchester Country Club as a caddy for many years. He retired in 1985.
Mr. Crawford is survived by a daughter, Anne C Babarovic of London; two stepchildren, Dee Marvin of Dover and David Marvin of San Jose, California; two brothers, Warren Crawford of Montrose, CO and Theodore Crawford of Elmwood Park, N.J.; a granddaughter, Elaine Sestito of Dover; three great grandchildren, and a niece, Gale Jackson of Albany, N.Y.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia A. Crawford, on July 4, 2001.
Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Heckman, Robert E.
Dr. Robert Ernest Heckman died peacefully at his home in Dover on July 24, 2001. He was seventy-five years old. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Dr. Heckman took advantage of the GI Bill and received both a Bachelor’s degree and a Medical Degree from Tufts University in Boston, Massachusetts. He began his career in Glens Falls, NY where he was a member of Warren Anesthesiology. He also served briefly as Chief of Staff of Glens Falls Hospital. A long-time Delaware resident, he had been the Chief of the Anesthesia Department at Kent General Hospital, where he also served as the Director for the Certificate in Nurse Anesthesia Program. After his retirement, he was very active with the Delaware Hospice program, the American Medical Association, and was on the Board of Trustees of the Biggs Museum in Dover.
Bob Heckman was an avid fresh water fisherman, a lover of art, and an ardent fan of American Music, especially Standards and Jazz. He will be remembered with great love and affection by all those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Joan, and their five children: Martha, Bob, Peter, Emily and Ruth and their spouses. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Cherry, of Georgia, and his four adored grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held at Holy Cross Church in Dover on Friday, July 27th at 10 AM.
Burial will be private. His family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 South Dupont Highway, Dover, De. 19901 or the Biggs Museum, 321 South State St., Dover, De. 19901.
Freed, Chester R.
Chester Rudy Freed of Dover died on July 18, 2001 at Capitol Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 81 years old.
Mr. Freed was born on July 7, 1920 in Pottstown, Pennsylvania to the late Chester Rosenberger Freed and Naomi Agnes Rudy Freed. He was an Industrial Engineer for TRW in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, retiring in July, 1980.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was stationed in Charleston, South Carolina on a YO134 oil tanker, and was a Seaman second class.
Mr. Freed was a member of the American Legion Post 158 Lebanon (Past Commander); Charter member of the American Veterans Association; member of the West Shore Elks; the Navy Club, Ship 91 Lebanon.
He was past State Chef de Gare for the Pennsylvania Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux. He also served as the Commissaire Intendant for that organization and was an active member of the Lebanon County Voiture 55.
In 1999 he was recognized as the Outstanding Lebanon County Legionnaire.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Mary Freed of Dover, De. a son Chester William Freed of Dover, De and a grandson, Jason Eric Freed of Seneca, SC.
A Private Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, July 24 at 11 AM at the VA Cemetery in Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania. A Memorial Service will be held at 12 noon at the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 800 South 12th Street, Lebanon, Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Parkinsons Disease Association, Inc., 1250 Hylan Blvd., Suite 4B, Staten Island, NY 10305.

Holub Jr., John P.
John P. Holub Sr. of Woodland Beach, Delaware, died at home Sunday August 5, 2001.
He was 89.
Mr. Holub was born February 13, 1912 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He worked as a carpenter and electrician for several years before retirement.
Mr. Holub loved to fish and crab and was always a playful, happy and giving person and wonderful father who will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Holub.
He is survived by 4 daughters, Betty Allen of Myrtle, Mississippi; Shirley Lucas and Olga Coyle both of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Pat Alfree of Hartly, Delaware; 1 son, John Holub Jr. with whom he lived; 15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Services and burial will be private.
Carmean, Roger (Kip)
Roger “Kip” Carmean of Dover, Delaware, died at home Saturday January 20, 2001.
He was 35.
Kip was born June 1, 1965 in Lewes, Delaware, the son of Roger E. Carmean of Milford, Delaware and Linda Gulyas Hall of Bowers, Delaware.
Kip worked as a baker for the Donut Connection in Milford, Delaware, until his illness in May of 1999.
He is survived by his wife Colleen McCartney Carmean, his 4 cats; his bother and his spouse, Keith-Allin and Michael Dohrn of Harrington, Delaware; 1 sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Tony Legates of Milford, Delaware; 1 niece, Brook Amber Legates of Milford, Delaware; his step-mother, Frances Dee Carmean of Milford, Delaware; his mother-in-law, Olga McCartney of Felton, Delaware; 1 sister-in-law, Karen Rice and her husband, Duane Rice of Dover, Delaware; 2 brothers-in-law, John T. McCartney and his wife and son, Lorrie and Taylor of Felton, Delaware; Michael P. McCartney and his wife, Joyce of Hartly, Delaware; and his step mother-in-law, Pauline McCartney of Dover, Delaware. He was loved by many other friends and family.
Services will be Wednesday January 24, 2001 at 12noon in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware, where friends may call 2 hours before services.
Burial will be private.
Durham, Donald A.
Donald A. Durham of Sumerduck, Virginia, formerly of Dover, Delaware, died in Mary Washington Hospital Fredericksburg, Virgina, Monday January 15, 2001.
He was 84.
Mr. Durham was born January 10, 1917 in Battle Creek, Michigan the son of the late William and Marella Seeney Durham.
He worked as a truck driver for Hall Motor Transit of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania for 20 years before retirement.
While Mr. Durham was in the Dover area, he enjoyed attending the local 7th Day Adventist Churches and Senior Centers, especially Mamie A. Warren Senior Center near Clayton, Delaware.
He was a beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather
His wife, Rachel Alger Durham died in 1988.
He is survived by his daughter, Judith M. Wenck of Price, Maryland; 7 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 1 great grandson.
Services will be Friday January 19, 2001 at 1PM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware where friends may call 1 hour before services.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park Dover, Delaware.
Haner, Sylvia G.
Sylvia G. Haner of Harrrington, DE, died at Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, July 25, 2001, she was 61. Mrs. Haner was born in Monroeville, Indiana to the late Ray L. Lennington and Opel Lennington of Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
Mrs. Haner worked as the branch manager for the Kellimore Cleaning Co. She belonged to the St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Harrington, DE. In her spare time she enjoyed going to the beach, fishing and camping, and traveling. She also liked to spend time in her garden and being an avid gardener.
Survivors include her sons Todd Thomas Haner of Laurel, DE, Timothy Ray Haner of May Flower, Arkansas, and Terrance A. Haner 0f Cape May, New Jersey, a brother Terrance R. Lennington of Fort Wayne, Indiana, a stepsister June Volkelt of Leo, Indiana, a dear and devoted friend Norma O’Banion of Harrington, 3 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be Monday, July 30, 2001 at 10:00 AM at the St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Harrington, DE. Viewing will be Sunday night from 7 to 9 PM at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. The Reverend Luis Pacheco of St. Bernadette Catholic Church will be officiating. Internment will be at Hollywood Cemetery, Harrington, DE.
Marvel, Louise
Louise Marvel of Dover, De died Tuesday, July 24, 2001 at her Dover home, she was 60 years old. Mrs. Marvel was born in Los Angeles, California to the late Buddy Berry and Inez Howe of Bakersfield, California.
Mrs. Marvel worked as a secretary for Muriel Schwartz in Dover for many years. Recently she was employed at AC More in Dover as a salesperson, specializing in the miniature doll house department. Her favorite hobby included building miniature doll houses, most from scratch. She had a special room in her home that had all the necessary equipment needed to build her miniature houses. She won many ribbons for her houses that she customized and she enjoyed going to miniature doll house shows.
Survivors include her husband of 14 years Edward Marvel of Dover, 2 sons Mark Goodell of Thornhurse, PA, and Mike Goodell of Sweetwater, OR, a daughter Karen Ridgley of Hartly, three stepsons Randall Marvel and Rodney Marvel both of Kitts Hammock, and Robert Marvel of Wilmington, a brother John Berry of Bakersfield, CA, and 9 grandchildren.
Services will be Friday, July 27, 2001 at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, at 10:00 AM with a viewing one hour prior to the service. The Reverend Luis Pacheco of Saint Bernadette Catholic Church will be officiating. Internment will be at Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover, DE.
