McWhite, Thelma S.

Thelma S. McWhite, age 69, of Felton, DE died Tuesday, July 31, 2001 at Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. McWhite was born in Dover, DE to John Steward of Felton and the late Pauline Steward.

Mrs. McWhite attended Wesley College then transferred to Goldey-Beacom where she finished her education. She worked at various companies as a secretary. One of her favorite pastimes was using her computer to play games and research information. Mrs. McWhite will be remembered as a caring individual who dedicated her life to taking care of her family and also spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her father John Steward of Felton; a son Gary G. McWhite of Millsboro; 3 grandchildren Jennifer L. Hughes of Harrington, Layla A. Cox of Willow Grove, Robert J.J.K. McWhite of Millsboro; and 5 great grandchildren Anthony S. McWhite, Daryl E. McWhite, Dylan R. Hughes, Jasmyn R. Hughes, and Amanda M. Ohlig.

Services will be Saturday, August 4, 2001 at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington at 1:00 PM, with a visitation two hours prior to the service. The Reverend Dr. Philip Lawton of the Felton United Methodist Church will be officiating. Internment will be at the Camden Odd Fellows Cemetery.

William C. Buckley, Sr. “Whiskey”

Age 61, a resident of Forest Brook Glen for 33 years, died Thursday evening, August 9, 2001 at his home after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He formerly resided in Delaware County, PA.

Mr. Buckley was an over-the-road tractor-trailer driver for eleven years for Guy Johnson/AMX. Prior to that, Bill worked seven years as a baker for Delcampo Bakery and ten years as a crane operator at Sun Ship in Chester, PA. He was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church and co-founded the Sunday Only Softball League in the early 1970’s. Mr. Buckley was a bingo caller for 18 years at Corpus Christi Church and for 16 years at Mill Creek Fire Company, where he was an honorary member. Whiskey shot pool for the Busch Pool League and the East Coast 8 Ball League. He was a devoted Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan. He did not like the Dallas Cowboys and routed for any team that played against them.

Mr. Buckley is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of forty years, Sandy Horn Buckley; three sons, William C. Jr. (Vicky); John J. (Chrissy); Bob, Sr. (Kim); two daughters, Connie Dougherty (John); Sandee Goldner (Jeff), all of Forest Brook Glen. Six grandsons, Billy III, Kyle, Andy, Ryan, Brandon, and Bobby, Jr; Four granddaughters, Michele Lynne, Kristen, Felicia, Brooke, and one expectant. Also surviving is Bill’s sister, Mary Martini (Steve); and brother Jack Buckley (Sue); his stepmother, Edith Buckley of Safety Harbor, FL; his brothers-in-law, Wayne L. Horn (Sharon) and Mark A. Horn (June). Billy is also survived by his childhood friend, William E. Barrett, from Montpelier, VA.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday morning at 11:30 am at St. Matthew’s Church, 901 E. Newport Pike and Fallon Avenue, Woodcrest. Interment will be in All Saints Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads on Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:45 am. Bill had requested that friends, relatives, and neighbors join his family in the celebration of his life at Mill Creek Fire Company immediately following interment. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Compassionate Care Hospice, 623 W. Newport Pike, Wilmington, DE 19804 or Mill Creek Fire Company, 3900 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808.

Hutchins, Wolcott

Wolcott Hutchins of Woodland Beach, Delaware, died in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital, Saturday March 24, 2001.

He was 82.

Mr. Hutchins was born April 20, 1918 in Hartly, Delaware, the son of the late Wolcott and Mary Racine Hutchins.

Mr. Hutchins retired from the United States Air Force Civil Service as an aircraft technician/supervisor at Dover Air Force Base.

He later worked part time for the Delaware Division of Fish and Wildlife.

He was a United States Army veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Threatre during the Battle of Layte Gulf and the New Guinea and Phillipines invasions.

He was an avid waterfowl hunter and fisherman and enjoyed gardening and Labrador retrievers.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Buelah Blakenship Hutchins in 1988.

He is survived by his wife Margaret Brooks Hutchins;

3 sons, Robert W. and Douglas J. Hutchins both of Smyrna, Delaware and Wayne Hutchins of Wilmington, North Carolina;

2 daughters, Cheryl Kenley of Wyoming, Delaware and Sandra Winnington of Wilmington, Delaware; 1 sister, Agnes Newcomber of Bryn Marr, Pennsylvania and 3 grandsons, Justin Kenley of Seattle, Washington, Weston Kenley of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Douglas Hutchins Jr. of Woodland Beach, Delaware and 2 step-sons, Melvin R. Sethman of Dade, Florida and Francis Sethman of Smyrna, Delaware.

Services will be Friday March 30, 2001 at 11AM in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street Smyrna, Delaware, where friends may call 1 hour before services.

Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery Smyrna, Delaware.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 South DuPont Highway Dover, DE 19901.

Meeks, Helen

Helen Meeks, age 97, of Newark, died on Sunday, June 17, 2001 at Calvert Manor in Rising Sun, MD.

Mrs. Meeks worked as a Nurses Aid at Wilmington General Hospital for 20 years and was a member of Holy Family Church in Newark. Her husband, Robert Meeks, Sr. and son, Edward Meeks predeceased her. She is survived by her son, Roberts Meeks, Jr., a daughter, Helen Dennis of Newport Richi, FL, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren; a sister, Rose Glynn of Tarpin Springs, FL.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a viewing at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, on Friday, June 22 from 9 am to 10 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family Church, 15 Gender Drive in Newark at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery inWilmington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Calvert Manor Resident Council Nursing Scholarship Fund, 1881 Telegraph Road, Rising Sun, MD 21911.

Thelma Carpenter Nutt

Age 95 died Friday, June 8, 2001 in the Harrison House in Georgetown, DE.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Newport, De.

Her husband, Marlin H. Nutt, died in 1982. She is survived by a daughter, Marlene Bestpitch of Wilmington, DE; 2 brothers, Edward and George Carpenter, both of FL; and a grandson, Marc Cygnus and his wife Jeanne. She is also survived by 2 great grandchildren, Christian and Kyla Cygnus, all of Mundelein, IL.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a funeral service on Tuesday, June 12th at 2pm in the Gracelawn Memorial Park Chapel in Wilmington, DE, where friends may call 45 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in the adjoining park.

Francis R. Paraskewich

Age 63 of Melody Meadows Newark, DE passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 8, 2001. Francis retired in 1994 from the DuPont Experimental Center after 34 years of service. He served in the US Navy, with active duty aboard the USS Lake Champlaign. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife Sally H. Paraskewich; his children, Timothy J. Paraskewich of Newark, DE, Robert A. Paraskewich of Newark, DE and Jill Ayers of Newark, DE; his mother Frances Paraskewich of Earleville, MD; his brothers John Paraskiewicz of Chesapeake City, MD, William Paraskewich of Pennsville, NJ, Michael P. Paraskewich and Steven Paraskewich both of Wilmington, DE, and his sister, Sally Deldeo of Wilmington, DE and 3 grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mass of Christian Burial at St. Rose of Lima Church, 17 Lock St., North Chesapeake City, MD on Thursday, June 14th at 11 am. Burial will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery Bear, DE. Friends may call at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek on Wednesday evening from 7-9 pm.

Austin, Jr., Albert Elwood

Albert E. Austin, Jr., 75, Woods Land, Westover, MD passed away Wednesday August 01, 2001 at VA Maryland Health Care System, Perry Point, MD.

He was born on July 16, 1926 in Chester, PA to Albert and Virginia (Bartow) Austin, Sr.

Mr. Austin was a electron in the Dover area and worked at Tudor Electic. He also had a nurserie business in Westover, MD. He is preeced in death by her Wife Martha in 1996, and his Daughter, Pat Austin his sons, Albert F. and Robert A. Austin. Also all of his brother's and sister's.

He is survived by Grand child, Robert Austin of Marydel, DE. Grand child, Faye Austin of in Europe . .

Remembrance Services will be held 08/08/2001 10:30 AM at Trader Funeral Home in Dover, DE Burial will be at the Glenn Wood Cem. Smyrna, DE

Friends may call one hour before the time of the service at the Trader Funeral Home in Dover.

LILLIAN A. KING

Age 62 of Pearsons Corner, Dover, DE, formerly of Milford, died Saturday, August 4, 2001 at home.

Mrs. King was a homemaker and a member of the Harrington Moose Lodge #534.

Lillian was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Bradley, Sr., a brother, Samuel Bradley, and a sister, Nancy Boyer.

She is survived by 3 sons; Richard A. King of Ellendale, Ronald A. King of Camden, and Roger A. King of Houston, a daughter, Sharon A. Morris of Milford, her mother, Elsie Smith of Houston, a brother, Thomas Bradley of Ellendale, 3 sisters; Joan Brown of Houston, Marie Bradley of Lincoln, and Frances White of Milford, her fiancee, Billy Carrow of Dover, 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2001 at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, DE, where friends may call 1 hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Lincoln, DE.

Pennington, Christopher A.

Christopher A. Pennington, age 28, of Bear, died on Thursday, September 6, 2001 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Mr. Pennington was a metal worker with Industraplate Corporation for six years. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed Mustangs. Chris will be remembered as loving son, brother, uncle, and best friend.

He will be dearly missed by his parents, Jim Pennington and Charlotte McConathey, both of Newark; his grandmothers, Edith Ulbinsky of Florida and Ada Pennington of Elkton; his sister, Celeste Meldrom and her husband Mark of Newark; his girlfriend, Tammy Rock of Newark; his aunt and uncle Robert and Cynthia Husbands of Townsend; nephew, Blake Baxendale and niece, Taylor Meldrom, both at home; many close friends; and his dog, Rex.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning at 11:00 am at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington, where friends are invited to call after 9:00 am. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.
