Baer, 81, of Milton and formerly of Baltimore, Md., died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005.Mr. Baer was a retired Baltimore City fireman and later worked in maintenance for the Baltimore County Police Department. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara, in 1982.He is survived by his wife, Grace Baer; two sons, Gordon C. and Glenn R. Baer; three stepsons, Pastor C.T. Beale, Harry and Darwin J. Beale; two daughters, Sharon Busker and Susan Kausch; and a stepdaughter, Sally Marie Wilkus.Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 13, at Parkwood cemetery

Herbert H. Flickinger, 88, of Wilmington and Rehoboth Beach, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2005.Herb was a graduate of Wilmington High School and the University of Delaware College of Agriculture. While a college student he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. After graduation he remained an avid supporter of the University of Delaware, including funding a scholarship in the College of Agriculture.He proudly served his country during World War II in the 5th U.S,. Army Air Corps, stationed in the Pacific.Herb was the founder of By-Products, Inc., a commodities brokerage firm and was also a major partner in the Atlantic Sands Hotel in Rehoboth Beach. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Wilmington Country Club and Rehoboth Beach Country Club.He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Catherine Burke Flickinger; three grandchildren, Burke Jr., Cole and his wife, Tonya, and Elizabeth; and his special caregivers, Raynee Anthony and Chandra Saroop. His son, H. Burke Flickinger Sr., died Jan. 10, 2004.A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 12, at McCrery Memorial Funeral Home, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville, where services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 13. Matilda M. Gallagher, 92, of Millsboro, died Friday, January 7, 2005, at Green Valley Terrace in Millsboro. She was born Nov. 30, 1912, in Philadelphia, Pa., daughter of the late Alice (Doherty) Gallacher and Charles M. Gallacher. She was a former member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Danville, Va., and the Oak Orchard CHEER Center.She was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Malosiecki. She is survived by her daughter, Dolly Rosenthal and her husband Harold of Millsboro; and a son-in-law Richard Malosiecki of Philadelphia, Pa.; five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.Services will be private and burial will be in Roslyn, Pa. Richard E. Rutter,

Richard E. Rutter, a lifelong resident of Wilmington, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2005, after a long battle with prostate cancer. Mr. Rutter was born Nov. 28, 1936, to Raymond and Sophie Rutter. He graduated from Conrad High School and went directly to work for his father at Mitchell & Rutter, located on Union Street in Wilmington. He eventually took over as owner of the business, where he thrived for more than 40 years. He also served in the Air National Guard for 10 years. During and since his retirement, he loved to golf with friends and family. He especially enjoyed playing with his two sons. His sense of humor and many talents will be missed. To know him was to love him. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and his eldest son, Robert C., who died in 1990.He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marie Kauss Ritter; and a son, Richard T. of Rehoboth Beach. Charlotte Ruth Adams, 94, of Melbourne, Fla., died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, in the home of her daughter, Joyce Fitch, of Milton. Mrs. Adams was born June 2, 1910, in Red Lion, Pa. and was the daughter of the Cora Ness Haines and Henry L Haines.After graduating from Red Lion High School in 1928, she attended Penn Hall Junior College in Chambersburg, Pa. and then completed her musical training at Coomb’s Conservatory of Music in Philadelphia. She began her teaching career in West York, Pa., and continued there until she married James Monroe Adams in 1934 and moved to Seaford. She taught music in both the Seaford and Delmar school districts. In 1958, she was asked to join and be a developing influence in an innovative project, teaching music on television on Delmarva School on the Air – WBOC in Salisbury, Md. She retired in 1970 after 30 years of teaching. In 1985, she moved to Barefoot Bay, Fla. In 1993, an honor was bestowed on Charlotte when she was elected into the Red Lion, Pa. High School Hall of Fame. Charlotte will be remembered by many family members and friends as a person who gave so much of herself to her children and grandchildren, who developed many lasting friendships, who always enjoyed being with people and having a good time, and who was an accomplished singer and pianist.She was preceded in death by two sisters, Jeanette Trout and Mary Stabley; two brothers, Hinkey Haines and George Haines; and by her husband, Jimmy, in 1971.She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Fitch of Milton and Idalie Adams of Melbourne, Fla.; four grandchildren, Dane Fitch of Brooklyn, Jean Fitch of Canterbury, Jim Adams of Lewes and Will Adams of Orlando, Fla.A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 11, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 202 North Street, Seaford, with burial in the church cemetery.

George Albert Hutter, 66, of Wilmington, and formerly of Wilkes Barre, Pa. and Rehoboth Beach, passed away Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005, at Christiana Hospital.He was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., the son of the late Dr. George and Jean Hutter. George was a graduate of E.L. Meyers High School and attended Syracuse University.While serving in the Army he was a member of the 82nd Airborne. He was an auditor in the hotel industry, retiring in July 2004.He is survived by four sons, Michael of Tucson, Az., Steven of San Diego, Ca., Paul and George W., both of Bear Creek, pa.; a daughter, Amy Dean of Wilkes-Barre; two sisters, Dr. Margery H. Emily Fitzgerald Bennett of Rehoboth Beach died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes.She was born on March 1, 1917 in Overlea, Md., the daughter of John R. and Luise Fitzgerald.A graduate of Eastern High School in Washington, D.C., Emily was an executive secretary for the Veterans Administration and also for Air Force Systems Command, where she worked on the advanced planning for the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo Space Programs at Andrews Air Force Base. She moved to Rehoboth Beach in 1971 following the disability retirement of Joseph, her husband and continued her secretarial career for Harry Derrickson and Carlton's Menswear.She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Rehoboth Beach, where she served a term as deacon, as well as president of the Women's Fellowship. She was also a member of the VIA, the Order of the Eastern Star Unity Chapter 16, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 9619 in Morningside, Md., where she was past president.An accomplished pianist, Mrs. Bennett also enjoyed needlecrafts, creating needlepoint Christmas stockings for her grandchildren, as well as knitted sweaters and afghans for the family. Her love of music and craftwork was shared with her Camp Fire Troop, which she established as the first troop in the Clinton, Md. area.She was preceded in death by Joseph, her husband of 51 years; two brothers, John and Wilfred "Woody”; and a grandson, Michael Mcllvaine.She is survived by daughters, Emily Logan of Rehoboth Beach, Joanne Bennett of Washington D.C.; sons James F. Mcllvaine and his wife, Brenda, of Rehoboth Beach, and Douglas W. Mcllvaine and his wife, Barbara, of Georgetown; eight grandchildren, Kelly Huffman, Kevin and James Wrixam Mcllvaine, Eric Logan, Christy Getz, Duncan Hayes, Kyla Anne, and Colin Joseph Mcllvaine; numerous great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Lois G. Anderson, age 86, died peacefully on Friday, Dec. 31, 2004 at Whitney Center in Hamden, Conn. She was born Jan.12, 1918, in Manchester, N.H. She was the widow of James F. Anderson. Mrs. Anderson was a parishioner of St. Rita’s church and beloved mother of seven children: Mary Lois Alicen of Bar Harbor, Maine, Elizabeth Anderson of Hamden, Conn., Mark Anderson of Sykesville, Md., John Anderson of Woodstock, Ga., Thomas Anderson of Lancaster, Pa., David Anderson of Wrightsville, Pa., and Margaret Anderson of Litchfield, Conn.Mrs. Anderson was the mother-in-law of Mary Jean, Lynne, Bernadette and Stephanie and sister of Grace Walsh of Cheshire, Conn., and Arthur Gamash of Sequim, Wash. After raising her children, Lois became a licensed practical nurse and specialized in home care. Before moving to Hamden for her retirement, she resided in Rehoboth Beach.She had an avid interest in plants and flowers. Blessed with a kind, compassionate, fun-loving nature and took great delight in her 14 grandchildren.Her family is particularly grateful for the exceptional care given by the Health Center staff members at Whitney Center. Kenneth David Knotts, 73, of Smyrna, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at home.Mr. Knotts was born in Newark, son of the late G. Franklin and V. Dorothea Knotts.He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was formerly employed as the manager of Suburban Gas Co. in Glasgow and later worked as an independent truck driver. He was also employed by Southern States Corp. in Claymont as a fuel delivery driver, after moving to Smyrna in 1973.He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren after his retirement. Mr. Knotts was a faithful member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Smyrna and was involved in many organizations within the church, including the Methodist Men, the choir and more.He was also a former member of the Delaware Bay Retrievers Club and enjoyed running Labrador retrievers in field trials. He also belonged to a camping club.He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Edith P. Knotts, in 2004.He is survived by a son, David Knotts of Harrington; three daughters, Karen Swartz and Jill Walters, both of Smyrna and Kathy Pepper of Lewes; two brothers, the Rev. Parsons, 82, of Lincoln, died after a long illness Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at home.Mr. Parsons was the son of the late Mattie Mitchell Parsons of Milton.He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was a truck driver for more than 20 years, retiring from TRP Trucking of Maryland. Prior to that, he was employed by Burris Foods. He was also a manager for Paradee Oil Co. of Lincoln for a short time.Mr. Parsons was a lifetime member of the Greenwood Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7478.He was preceded in death by a son, Wayne B. Parsons of Harrington; and a granddaughter, Tammy Parsons of Virginia.He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elma C. Short Parsons; three daughters, Phillis P. Hammond of Lincoln, Carolyn F. Sulkowski, 60, of Lewes and formerly of Bayonne and Spotswood, N.J., died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2004, at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore.He was a tractor trailer driver for Baxter Health Care Services in Edison, N.J. for 25 years, retiring in 1999. After his relocation to Lewes, he worked at Beebe Medical Center as a transportation coordinator. He served in the Air Force from 1956 to 1958 and was a former member of the American Legion Post 253 in Spotswood.He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Ann Dwyer Sulkowski; three daughters, Kathleen Zerman and her husband Joseph of Warrington, Pa., Colleen of Helmetta and Denise of Monroe Township, N.J.; two brothers, Frank of Tiston, Ga. and Bob of Fairless Hills, Pa.; two sisters, Marie Michael of Georgetown and Donna Graulich of North Brunswick, N.J.; and two granddaughters, Riley and Kendall Zerman.Services will be held at noon, Friday, at the M. Ernest T. “Ted” Wagner Sr., 87, of Rehoboth Beach, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005. Born in Bremerton, Wash., on Sept. 7, 1917 he was the son of the late Ernest H. and Isabell Wagner.Mr. Wagner was a graduate of Hill Military Academy, Portland, Ore., a graduate of Severn School, Severna Park, Md., Bliss Electrical College, Washington, D.C; and he was a U.S. Navy veteran of both World War II and the Korean Wars.An electronics expert, Mr. Wagner finished his career at National Cash Register. He was a proud 39 year lifetime member of Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Department. He loved being with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and traveled extensively throughout the entire world.He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mary F. William Truman Garris, 65, of Millsboro, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, in Harbor Healthcare in Lewes.Mr. Garris was born in North Carolina, the son of the late John Truman Garris and Gladys Pardue Garris.He was a subcontractor for Parker Enterprises in Millsboro for the past 25 years.He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and James Garris.He is survived by his wife of six years, Judith M. Garris; a son, Kevin T. Garris, at home; a brother, Frank Garris, of the Philippines; three sisters, Marie Brittingham and Elva Lee Harris, both of Georgetown and Dollie Sparks of Roaring River, N.C.; two stepsons and stepdaughters; and several nieces and six nephews.Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 8, at the Seaford Wesleyan Church, with burial private.Contributions are suggested to Delaware Hospice, 600 Dupont Highway, Georgetown DE 19947 or to the Seaford Wesleyan Church, South DuPont Highway, Seaford DE 19973.
