Holt, Henry I.

Henry I. Holt of Camden-Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming died on Wednesday, September 12th at Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital. He was 87 years old.

Mr. Holt was born January 25, 1914 in Dover to George R. and Estella Jones Holt. He had worked as a factory worker at a hosiery factory and most recently at General Foods in Dover. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U. S. Army.

He was a life-long Methodist. He was a former square dancer with Levi and Lace, he enjoyed gardening, and liked to hunt when he was young.

Mr. Holt is survived by a son, Henry I. Holt Jr. of Mary Esther, Florida; a daughter, Jacqueline Doherty of Needmore, Pa.; a brother, George R. Holt of Dover; and a sister, Orlene Moore of Dover. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Patrick S. Doherty, Michael T. Doherty, Theresa M. Doherty, Kathleen D. Doherty and Lauri Holt Bailey; 8 great-grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 17th at 11 AM at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 South Bradford Street, Dover. Friends may call at the funeral chapel on Sunday evening from 5 to 7 PM. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden, De.

Ennis, M. Elizabeth

Mary Elizabeth Ennis, a longtime resident of Dover died Monday, October 8, 2001 in Heritage of Dover. She was 89.

She was born in Henderson, Maryland on May 28, 1912 to the late Lillyiard and Mary Elizabeth Tomlinson Jones. For many years, she was a summer resident of Pickering Beach, DE.

Mrs. Ennis was a homemaker. Along with her husband, she had owned and operated numerous rental properties in Kent County. She had also served as an aide on school buses for special education children.

She especially enjoyed time with her family, as well as working in her yard and greenhouse.

Mrs. Ennis was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Clifford Morgan Ennis, who died in February 2001. She was also preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers, Delsie Forbes in April 2001, F. Elva Pickering in June 2001, F. Paul Jones, James L. Jones, and Susan McGinnes.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bruce C. and Diane W. Ennis of Dover; a granddaughter, Heather D. Ennis of Dover; two sisters, Jeannette Virdin of Dover and Myrtle Dixon of Kenton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 2PM Saturday, October 13, 2001 in Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover. Friends may call Friday evening at the funeral home from 7PM to 9PM. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover.

Singles, Mildred White

Mildred White Singles, 86, of Newark, DE, died Mon. Oct. 8, 2001 at Christiana Hospital.

Mrs. Singles, a homemaker, was a long-standing member of the Newark United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Soroptomis and the Eastern Star. She was very active in the establishment of the Newark Senior Center.

She is survived by 3 daughters & their husbands, Joanne S. Reeves & Karl of Upper Marlboro, MD, Betty Lou Rhoads & Max of Newark, Grace H. Singles & Alan Ely of Newark; 3 grandchildren, John Rhoads & his wife, Lori of Newark; Chadd Rhoads of Newark, and Brenda H. Reeves of Tampa, FL.

She is preceded in death by her husband, John Singles.

Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday October 12th at R. T. FOARD & JONES FUNERAL HOME, 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be in Head of Christiana Cemetery in Newark.

Bergmeyer, Phyllis Irene

Phyllis Irene Bergmeyer, 79, Park Way Drive, Dover, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2003, at KGH Bay Health Dover.

She was born on September 20, 1924, in Beatrice, NE to the late John and Marie Sykes Bergmeyer.

Ms. Bergmeyer attended Lutheran College in Segena, TX. After completing college she went to work for the Dept. of Defense as an Administer Asst. in the Pentagon and National institute of Health in Washington, DC.

She is survived by Sister, Vernita Bergmeyer of Dover, DE. Friend, Peg Fiechtner of Dover, DE. Peggy Bell of Dover, DE.

Graveside Services and burial will be held Sat. 12/20/2003 11:00 AM at the Sharon Hill Memorial Park Dover, DE

The family request that memorial contributions be given to Kent County SPCA.

Bare, Douglas Richard

Douglas "Doug" Richard Bare of Dover died Sunday December 14, 2003 in Kent General Hospital. He was 55.

He was born July 27, 1948 in Ephrata, Pennsylvania to the late Richard Bare and Betty Rishel Bare.

TSgt. Bare worked as a Civil Servant for Dover Air Force Base in the Flight Line Maintenance Squadron as an aircraft hydraulic systems mechanic. He worked as a Flight Engineer Instructor for Flightsafety. TSgt. Bare was a veteran of the Vietnam War, Desert Storm and served his country through active duty, reserves and civil service for the last 35 years.

He loved fixing things and was a creative inventor of gadgets. He was in the mist of rebuilding his 1962 Austin Healey. He loved cats and dogs and enjoyed watching NASCAR especially rooting for Dale Jarrett. While in Massachusetts, he was a member of the Lions club, and was a coach for daughter's softball teams. He was a very devoted Pop - Pop.

Mr. Bare is survived by his wife of 23 years Darlene Brown; 2 daughters, Dana Menhart and her husband John of Dover, Dawn Bare and her friend Erik Bork of Dover; 2 brothers, Jeff Bare of PA, Michael Bare and his wife Cora of Lititz, PA; a granddaughter Leah Menhart; two aunts, Marian Meekley and Dolores Despard both of Akron, PA and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2 PM Thursday December 18, 2003 in Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover. Friends may call from 11 - 2. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Dover.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Kent County S.P.C.A, 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.

Joe J. Welker

Age 76 of Wilmington, DE died Monday, December 15 in the Christiana Hospital.

Mr. Welker was an engineer with the DuPont Company retiring in 1988 after 36 years of service. He served in the Army as a Corporal in WWII. He was a member of the Limestone Presbyterian Church and the Red Clay Presbyterian Church. He was a Trustee, Deacon and Elder of Limestone Presbyterian Church. He received his bachelors of mechanical and civil engineeering degrees from the University of Louisville. He was past president and member of the Delaware Engineering Society.

He is survived by his daughter, Judith Jay Welker of Wilmington He was predeceased by his wife Charmaine Goemmer Welker who died October 15, 2003.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Thursday, December 18, 2003 at 7:00 pm where friends may call from 5 - 7 pm. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.

Filliben, Rosemary

Rosemary (Quinn) Filliben, age 76, of Wilmington, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2003 at Brandywine Nursing Home.

Mrs. Filliben was predeceased by her husband, Joseph F. Filliben, Jr., in 1983.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Joseph Strusowski of Newark, Lynn Ann and Wayne Hopkins of Claymont, and Patricia and Larry Price of Wilmington. Also surviving are her granddaughters, JoLynn Maniscalco, Carrie Ann Price, and Stacy Lynn Price; two great grandsons, Joseph and Andrew; and a sister, Mary Ann Wood of Pittsburgh.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 20th at 10:30 AM at St. Elizabeth Church, Cedar and Clayton Streets, Wilmington. Friends are invited to call on Saturday morning between 9 and 10 AM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Delaware Humane Society, 701 A Street. Wilmington, DE 19801.

DeVilbiss, James A.

CHESWOLD — James Arthur William Charles DeVilbiss of Cheswold, died at his residence, Saturday, December 13, 2003. He was 21.

Mr. DeVilbiss was born on May 13, 1982 in England.

He graduated from Sachem High School, Class of 2000.

Mr. DeVilbiss served in the United States Army.

He had worked at several area stores as a clerk, but most recently was concentrating on his music and writing. He enjoyed writing poetry and pro, his music and singing.

He is survived by his father David A. DeVilbiss of Orange, Texas, his mother Lynn Broomell and stepfather Russell Broomell of Middletown, two brothers Michael Barker of Huntington, NY and Jordan Broomell of Middletown and grandparents Beverly and Joseph Broomell of Stoneybrook, NY.

A memorial serviced will be held at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Whatcoat United Methodist Church, 16 N. Main Street, Camden. The family will greet family and friends immediately following the service during a time of fellowship.

Burial will be private.

Hansen, Anna

Anna Hansen of Dover died on Thursday, August 30, 2001 in Bayhealth/Kent General Hospital. She was 88 years old.

Mrs. Hansen was born on June 8, 1913 in Jersey City, New Jersey to the late Jens Lee and Bertina S. Hageland Lee. She was raised in Mandal, Norway and returned to the United States at the age of 19. She was married to Clarence Hansen, and was a homemaker.

She had lived in the Dover area since 1963, moving here from New Jersey. She was a member of the Sons of Norway, the Mamie A. Warren Senior Center in Kenton, De.; and she enjoyed knitting and cooking.

She is survived by a son, Frank Hansen of Dover, De.; a daughter, Janet B. Pszenny of Pemberton, New Jersey; a brother, Gustav Lee and his wife, Elsie, of Lewes, De.; two sisters-in-law, Roberta Lee of Lewes, De., and Nona Lee of Denville, New Jersey; and two grandchildren, John Pszenny of Pennsville, New Jersey and Lee Ann Forvour of Mt. Holly, New Jersey and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Hansen in 1983, six brothers, Jens B. Lee, O. Frankie Lee, Erling Lie, Arner Lee, Karl Lee, and Einar Lee and two sisters, Gunhild Hoffman and Anna Lee.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, September 2nd at 2 PM at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 South Bradford Street, Dover, De. Friends may call on Saturday evening from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover, De.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mamie Warren Senior Center, 1775 Wheatleys Pond Rd., Smyrna, De. 19977.
