Robert C. Olney

Age 82, of Chadds Ford, PA, passed away on February 27, 2009.

He was born in 1926 in Brooklyn, New York to Martha Otten Olney and Herbert Mason Olney. He was a graduate of Cornell University and served in the U.S. Navy Air Corp from 1943 - 1945. He was employed by the 3M Company for 40 years, beginning in sales. He was General Manager of 3M's National Advertising Company and Managing Director and Chairman of 3M United Kingdom. After his retirement from 3M he served on several corporate boards and acted as a consultant to several international companies. In London, he was invited to join the Ancient Livery of Upholders, a guild founded in the middle ages. After serving in leadership positions for several years, he was elected their first American Grand Master. A long time resident of Hinsdale, IL, he then lived in Weybridge England and Chadds Ford, PA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, James Olney; and Wanda G. Olney, his wife of 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Ann W. Olney; his brothers, Edward S. Olney and Stephen S. Olney; his 3 sons and their wives, Robert C. and Jean Olney, Jr. of Holland, MI, Thomas J. and Joy Olney of Bellingham, WA, and Douglas P. and Sylvia Olney of Grand Rapids, MN; 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Ann's children, Susan R. and Robert Darrouzet, Brenda A. and Robert Breck and James B. and Margaret Bell, and 3 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Lower Brandywine Presbyterian Church, 101 Old Kennett Road Greenville, DE on Tuesday, March 3, at 11:30 am. Memorials may be made to the Cornell-Weill Center for Alzheimer's Research or the University of Pennsylvania Alzheimer's Research Study.

Bettejane "BJ" Salmons

Bettejane "BJ" Salmons, age 81, of Wilmington, DE, died on Friday, February 27, 2009.

Bettejane graduated from Mary Washington College in 1948. She was a long time and active participant with the American Association of University Women. (AAUW).

A loving wife, and homemaker, Bettejane is survived by her husband of 60 years, H. Irvin Salmons, Jr.; children, Jeffery Salmons, and Hal and his wife Emily Salmons, daughter, Betty and her husband Cliff Cross. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Tyle Cross, Reed Salmons, and George Salmons.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday evening, March 3, at 7 pm, at the CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in BJ's memory to the American Lung Association of Delaware 1021 Gilpin Avenue, Suite 202. Wilmington, DE 19806-3280.

Henry F. Smith

Age 67 of Wilmington, DE, departed this life February 26, 2009, at Heartland Hospice House.

Henry was born in Charleston, South Carolina on October 2, 1941, the son of the late Elethea Mills. Henry was a graduate of Burke High School in Charleston, South Carolina. He was an avid sports enthusiast. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with family and friends. Henry worked at Kaumagraph Corporation for 17 years. After 17 years of service, he recently retired from Dart Paratransit. He was also active union member, where he served as an executive board member as well as the shop steward for ATU, Local 842. He was a faithful member of St. Paul UAME for many years and a member of the Brotherhood of the UAME Conference.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 39 years, Sharon E. Smith; his son, Wilbert Moultrie; 1 brother, Leo Smith (Emily); 4 sisters, Amanda Powell, Arthuree Melton, Edith Mills, Johnell Smith; 3 aunts, Mable Bell, Daisy Dawson, Emily V. Smith. He also has 4 brothers-in-law, Thomas Russell II, Robert Cannon, Kevin Carroll, Anthony Carroll (Linda); 3 sisters-in-law, Brenda Mills, Maxine Russell, Janice D. Russell; a devoted niece, Yolanda White and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Service will be held Tuesday March 3, at St Paul UAME Church, 3114 N. Market Street, Wilm., DE at 11 am. Viewing from 9-11 am, only. Committal service at Gracelawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that contributions be made to Heartland Hospice House, 5661 Ochletree Lane, Wilm., DE 19808.

Jane A. Volk nee Mancuso

Age 52, died on Saturday, February 28, 2009, at Christiana Hospital surrounded by her family.

Jane was born in Fort Worth, TX, the daughter of Clara Jane (Berton) and Frank E. Mancuso. She was a 1974 graduate of Newark High School and she attended Goldey Beacom College. Jane worked for nearly 20 years for F.A.I.R. Plan Insurance Company. In 1995, she founded PostNet in the Fox Run Shopping Center with her husband, Jack. She was a member of St. Margaret of Scotland Church, where she served as a Eucharist Minister and was very active in many church functions and committees. Her hobbies include reading, traveling, baking, gardening and bird-watching. Her great joy was spending time with her family, especially her daughter, Jessica.

Jane will be dearly missed by her husband of 31 years, John W. (Jack) Volk; her daughter, Jessica A. Volk; her parents, Clara Jane and Frank Mancuso of Newark; her brother, Frank A. Mancuso of Orlando, FL; her sisters-in-law and their husbands, Maryanne Townsend and David and Margaret Bartoli and George; her brother-in-law, Marty Volk and her four legged daughter (golden retriever), Bailey.

A viewing will be held at St Margaret of Scotland Church, Route 40 and Frazer Road on Tuesday evening, March 3, from 6-8 pm, and on Wednesday morning from 10-10:45 am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11 am. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the St. Margaret of Scotland, St. Vincent de Paul Society, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark, DE 19702.

Felix T. Witkowski

Age 69,of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 28, 2009.

Felix, who was know as Fedge, was an Army Veteran and a member of St. Matthews Church. He was a self employed Carpenter for many years and he loved to restore cars.

Fedge was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Barbara. He is survived by his daughter, Sue Zebley and her husband Phil; son Tom; grandchildren, Brittany, Danny and Ashley; sisters, Helen Bazydio, Jeannie Steen and Eleanor Walker; brothers Stanley and Joseph; and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am, on Wednesday, March 4, at St. Matthews Church, Maryland and Curtis Ave's., Woodcrest, where visitation will begin at 9:30 am. Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery, Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.

The family suggests contributions in Fedge's memory to St. Matthews Church, 1 Curtis Ave., Wilm. DE 19804.

William "Russ" Clendenning

Age 52, of Claymont, DE, formerly of Dover, DE, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Christiana Care Hospital, Newark.

Russ attended Caesar Rodney High School and Pierce Jr. College. Russ was the yard foreman for Shone Lumber for 18 years and was most recently employed by RGIS Inventory Specialists. Russ enjoyed bowling in many leagues, both mixed and mens' leagues, in the 1980's and 1990's. His favorite pastimes were spending time with his grandchildren and his dogs.

Russ is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife of 30 years, Cami (Sheftz) Clendenning; his son, Jasen Bechard along with his wife Melissa of BelAir, MD; his daughter, Monique Borda along with her husband Anthony of Chesapeake Haven, MD; and his 5 grandchildren, Christopher, Sierra, Tori, Cara, and Mackenzee. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his mother, Barbara Clendenning of Dover, DE, and his 2 sisters, Terry Lynn Suloff along with her husband, Jerry, and their 2 children of Lincoln, DE, and Donna Marie Clendenning of Dover, DE, along with many other family members and friends.

Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of his life at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE, on Wednesday, March 11, starting at 6 pm.

Sarah E. Follin

Of Georgetown, DE, passed away Saturday, March 7, 2009, in the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford. She was 66.

Sarah was a CNA with Beebe Medical Center for 16 years, retiring in 2007.

In addition to her parents, her sister, Carol Logan, preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Walton "Walt" Follin; 3 children and their spouses, Tammie (Joe) Schwartz, Sherwood, MD, Jimmie (Tracy) Follin, Upper Marlboro, MD and Debbie (John) Hoffman, Exton, PA; 5 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and 2 brothers, M. T. Harris, Georgetown and L. Edward Harris, St. Petersburg, FL.

Memorial service and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Sarah's memory to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

Bertha L. Gaventa

Age 99, a lifelong resident of Pedricktown, NJ, prior to becoming a resident of Friends Village in Woodstown, NJ, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at Elmer Hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Harvey and Louisa Klein Gaventa. A graduate of Penns Grove High School and Bucknell University, she was employed by the New Jersey Board of Children's Guardians as a social investigator from 1935 until 1942. She was a retired employee of the US Government. Her employment included civilian personnel positions at the Delaware Ordnance Depot, Frankford Arsenal, Philadelphia Ordnance District and the New Castle County Air Base. She had been a member of the First Baptist Church at Pedricktown since 1920.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Katherine. Surviving is a sister, Anna Gaventa Rockey of Woodstown.

Services will be private with interment in the cemetery of the First Baptist Church at Pedricktown.

Arrangements are under the direction of the ASHCRAFT FUNERAL HOMES

Angeline A. Barnett

Mrs. Angeline A. (Santillo) Barnett, 86 of Wilmington, DE, peacefully passed away at her home on Thursday, March 12, 2009.

Mrs. Barnett was born in Wilmington on February 26, 1923, daughter of the late John and Clara (Baldi) Santillo. A devoted homemaker, she was a member of St. Matthew's Parish, an avid gardener and enjoyed sewing.

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Mrs. Barnett is survived by her husband of 63 years, Edward J. Barnett; her son, Peter Barnett and his wife, Carol; her daughter, Paula Dombroski and her husband, Thomas; her grandchildren, Kate Tallman and her companion, Bryan Kniss and Justin Barnett and his wife, Tiffany; and her step grandson, Jonathan Jackson. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary White and Betty Pyle and her husband, George. Mrs. Barnett was predeceased by her sister, Jennie Riley.

Family and friends may visit at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek on Wednesday, March 18, from 10 - 11 am. The funeral service will begin at 11 am. Interment will be held privately with her family.
