Mary Evans Billingsley Hood
Age 87, died Saturday, November 8, 2008, at her winter home in Venice, FL.
She was born in Fairmont, WV to the late P.G. and Golda W. Billingsley. Mary graduated from Morgantown High School and West Virginia University, graduating in 1943 and marrying Jack Hood that same year. As part of the DuPont family, they moved from West Virginia to Washington, then on to Texas, Illinois, Wilmington, South Carolina and back to Wilmington, with a brief time in South Africa. Mary was a devoted mother and gracious homemaker, an active participant in her Church community, an avid bridge player, and a willing and able volunteer for the Junior Board of Wilmington Hospital. She was very active in Girl Scouts throughout her life, first as a participant and camp counselor, later as a Brownie, Junior and Senior Scout Leader, as well as a Boy Scout Den Mother. After her husband's retirement from DuPont in 1981, they traveled the world and spent many happy hours with friends at the Academy of Lifelong Learning in Wilmington.
Mary is survived by her children, John B. Hood and wife Bonnie, Barbara Brown, and Susan Drumm and husband John; grandchildren, John B. Hood, Jr. and partner Cindy Ming, David R. Hood and wife Julianne, Brian L. Hood, Marshall D. Brown and wife Jenn, Kiesrten M. Whitehead and husband Todd, and Christian H. Drumm; great grandchildren, Paige, Phoebe and William Hood and Jeremy Whitehead.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 13, at 2 pm, at Concord Presbyterian Church, 1800 Fairfax Blvd, Wilmington, DE 19803. Friends will be received at a reception at the Church following the service.

Lorraine D. McDowell
Lorraine D. McDowell, age 79, of Newark, DE, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2008 at Christiana Hospital in Newark.
Mrs. McDowell was born in Wilmington, DE on December 21, 1928 to the late Sackie and Senora (Kroninger) Marino and had been a homemaker. She participated in the Coffee Klutch Club, bingo and holiday parties with her friends at The Main Towers in Newark. She was a member of the Newark Senior Center, and enjoyed shopping, country music, and watching T.V., especially "The Price is Right" and western movies. Most of all Mrs. McDowell enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. McDowell was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. McDowell, who died in 1992 and a brother. She is survived by her children, Dora L. Knight and husband, Jack, of New Castle, DE, Billy L. McDowell of Wilmington, DE, Michael W. McDowell of Waco, TX, Marie L. Wolfe and husband, Ken, of Newark, DE, Cathy L. Malascalza and husband, Paul, of Newark, DE, and Carlene D. Hyett and husband, Christopher, of Smyrna, DE; 4 brothers; 3 sisters; 15 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle, where friends may call after 12 noon. Interment will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.

Charles Richard Schneider
Age 72, who last resided with his nephew, Jamie Miller and his family of Dover, DE, passed away on November 16, 2008.
Mr. Schneider was born on September 10, 1936 in Wilmington, DE to the late Samuel and Rhoada Schneider. He was a 42 year resident of Claymont, DE and a member of the Ironworker Local 451 in Wilmington. He enjoyed travelling, hunting, fishing and tubing down the Brandywine with family and friends. He enjoyed children and was known to many as "Uncle Charlie".
He is survived by 3 brothers and their spouses, Gene L. and Loretta of West Grove, PA, Roger O. and Jane of Townsend, DE and James E. and Kathy of Middletown, DE; a sister and her husband, Darling Marie Miller and Tim of Smyrna, DE; 27 nieces and nephews; 43 great nieces and nephews and 11 great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Samuel H. Jr., Donald L., Henry A. Sr. and Joseph L. Schneider.
Service will be held at 7 pm, on Wednesday, December 3, at R. T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711 where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be held private at a later date.

Myrtle E. Twaddell nee Hanby
Age 94, passed away November 28, 2008, at Hillside Center Wilmington DE.
Born and raised in Wilmington to the late Elmer and Minnie Harvey Hanby, Mrs. Twaddell has been a resident of Wilmington for most of her life. She resided for a time in Boothwyn, PA but for the last 20 years she has resided with her daughter in Wilmington. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, was a longtime member of Siloam United Methodist Church and was a member of Brandywine Senior Center in Claymont DE.
She was predeceased by her parents, Elmer and Minnie Hanby, and her son, Ronald A. Twaddell. She is survived by her daughter, Janet M. Twaddell of Wilmington, DE; 1 son, Gilbert E. Twaddell of Earlsville MD, 2 grandchildren, Stephen Twaddell and Jennifer West and 3 great-grandchildren.

Gerhard P. WillemsendeBock, Jr. "Jerry"
Gerhard P. "Jerry" WillemsendeBock, Jr., age 32, of New Castle, DE, died on Thursday, November 27, 2008, at Christiana Hospital in Newark.
Jerry was born in Wilmington on October 8, 1976. During his short, courageous life, he delighted in many things, especially spending time with his beloved family during the holidays and enjoying his mother's wonderful cooking. Each year, Jerry looked forward to visiting with his many friends at Camp Fairlee Manor and participating in the Special Olympics. He also enjoyed to trips to Disney World with his family, watching old movies and favorite television programs, and listening to all types of music.
He is survived by his devoted parents, Gerhard P. WillemsendeBock, Sr. and Valerie (Whitlock) WillemsendeBock; 3 sisters, Charlene E. Orr and husband, Thomas, of Jacksonville, FL; Kathryn A. McCrea and husband, James, of Bear, DE; and Susan M. WillemsendeBock and fiancé, John Burnett, of Newark, DE; maternal grandparents, Reese and Lily ("Rusty") Whitlock of Millsboro, DE; paternal grandmother ("Oma"), Stella WillemsendeBock of Harrisburg, PA; a niece and two nephews, Tahni Matthew, Sage Matthew, and Christopher Murphy-McCrea; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call after 6 pm on Friday, December 5, 2008, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE. A prayer service will follow the visitation at 8 pm. Alfred H. Barnes
Age 84, of Wilmington, DE, passed away Monday, December 1, 2008 at Christiana Hospital.
A VFW Post 3420 member, he served in the Army Air Force during WWII. He retired from Wilco Plumbing and Heating Supply after thirty years of service.
Alfred is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Wolfe Barnes. Alfred is also survived by 1 sister, Elsie Daroda; 1 niece, Janet Yost and her husband Bob; 1 nephew, Robert Daroda and his wife Donna; 2 great nieces, Amy and Cathy and 2 great nephews, Bob and Michael.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 5, 2008 at 11 am in the MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, Limestone and Milltown Roads. Friends may call after 10 am on Friday. Interment will be Sunday, December 7, 2008 in High Lawn Memorial Park in Oak Hill, WV.

Stanislas A. Dauphin
Stanislas A. Dauphin, age 96, died peacefully at the Kentmere Nursing Home on November 28, 2008.
Stanislas was born at Winterthur on February 29, 1912. He graduated from Salesianum High School in 1931 and Goldey Beacom College in 1933. He served in the Airforce during WWII and retired as Sexton of St. Paul's R.C. Church after more than 30 years of service.
He was predeceased by his parents, Marguerite and August Dauphin; his brothers, Emile, Paul, August, Eugene, Joseph, Frank and Louis and his sisters, Marguerite Dauphin and Constance Atallian. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian burial at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Church, 10 Old Church Rd., Greenville, on Tuesday December 9 at 1pm. The interment will follow in the lower church cemetery.
