Helen F. Cole

Helen F. Cole, 83, of Claymont, DE, passed away on December 5, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital. She was the wife of 49 years of Donald Cole.

Born in Ithaca NY, she was the daughter of the late James W. and Geneva Wright Fraze. Helen was a graduate of Newark High School and received her M.Ed. from The University of Delaware.

In addition to her husband, Helen is survived by her children, Chan Moore and Elaine Moore; and her siblings: Kathryn Pierson, Gene Fraze and James Fraze, Jr.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service at 1:30 pm on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at Gebhart Funeral Home of Claymont, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703. Calling time will be from 1-1:30 pm at the funeral home prior to the service. Interment will be private.

Helen M. Kalbin

Age 81 of Millsboro, DE died December 4, 2008 at Beebe Medical Center. Service, 1pm Wednesday, December 10, at the Long Neck Chapel of MELSON FUNERAL SERVICES, 32013 Long Neck Rd., Millsboro, DE.

Mike Moore

December 29, 1942 - October 22, 2008

Mike Moore, 65, of Wilmington, DE died Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at Christiana Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was a son of the late James A. and Mary Margaret Moore of Newark, DE. Mike loved and devoted 48 years to the emergency services as a Firefighter, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), and educator. He began his vocation as a Firefighter for the Claymont Fire Company in 1960, serving for many years as their training officer and remaining an active member until retiring in 2003 due to disability. He was also a Firefighter/EMT for the Modena, PA Fire Company and was employed as an EMT at the Avondale and Longwood, PA Fire Companies, the city of Wilmington, and the city of Chester. Mike provided medical coverage for various concerts and sporting events with NES Event Medical.

A knowledgeable and talented instructor, Mike taught countless Firefighters, rescue workers, and EMS providers from across Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland. He was an instructor for the Delaware State Fire School for almost 30 years. He developed and taught technical rescue courses for Rescue Training Associates. A committed CPR/First Aid instructor for the Delaware Chapter of the American Red Cross (1962 - 2008) and a CPR instructor and trainer for the American Red Cross (1980 - 2008) he taught hundreds of courses to countless personnel. As an EMS instructor for the PA Department of Health Mike participated in starting two successful EMT training programs in Delaware County and the city of Philadelphia. He was a water rescue instructor for the PA Fish and Boat Commission, and a DNREC water rescue/boating safety instructor. Mike visited and "rode along" with Fire Departments all over the United States, US Virgin Islands, Ireland, Italy, Greece, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Japan, Australia, Canada, Tahiti, and Sweden. He frequently taught impromptu classes while visiting with these firefighters who were eager to learn from him. Mike proudly volunteered at the World Trade Center site after the September 11 attacks helping his brother firefighters sort through the wreckage, doing whatever he could to help. Outside the Fire Service Mike was a teacher at the New Castle County VoTech School District from 1977 - 2000 and he belonged to the Local Union 313, I.B.E.W. from 1960 - 2008. He served in the Delaware Army National Guard from 1966 - 1971.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Richard and Dennis Moore. He was married for 25 years to Lynn Steele Moore. Mike is survived by a daughter, Karen Martin, wife of Scott Martin, and 2 adoring grandchildren, Chloe and Connor Martin, of Chesapeake City, MD; a son, Sean and wife Sara Moore of West Grove, PA; a sister, Christine McCaffrey, wife of James McCaffrey of Millis, MA; and his beloved cats.

Mike will be carried on a Claymont fire truck from Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Roads, back home to his fire station in Claymont in a full Firefighter's funeral procession on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 10 am. A memorial service honoring Mike will follow at 11 am at the Cohee Memorial Hall of the Claymont Fire Company, 3223 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE.

Samuel Bagnoli, Sr.

Mr. Samuel Bagnoli, Sr., age 83 of Wilmington, DE, passed away on December 9, 2008.

Samuel was born in Wilmington on May 11, 1955, son of the late Ernest and Marie Bagnoli. A Veteran of the U.S. Army, he proudly and honorably served his country in WWII. He then embarked on a long career as a construction superintendent. Samuel enjoyed hunting and was a lifetime member of the NRA. He was a loyal and passionate supporter of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Mr. Bagnoli was predeceased by his wife, Joan. He is survived by his children, Marie Hougentogler and her husband, Fran, Carol Galvin and her husband, Bill, Kathy Hinckle and her husband, Bob, and Sam Bagnoli Jr. and his companion, Denise Hanley; sisters, Emma Montoro, Rose Picollelli, and Antoinette Cicala; grandchildren, Michael, Brian, Mark, Nikki, Lisa, Kevin, Keith, Elyssa, and Brett; great-grandchildren, Julianna, Meredeth, Alexander, and Emily; and beloved Black Lab, Buddy.

The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. William Funk and his staff, as well as the nurses and staff of the Heartland Hospice House, for their attentive and compassionate care of Samuel.

Family and friends may call at the CHARLES P. ARCARO FUNERAL HOME, 2309 Lancaster Ave. (opp. Cathedral Cem), on Friday morning, December 12 from 11am-12noon. Entombment will immediately follow in Cathedral Cemetery.

Samuel R. Ingram

Age 51, died Saturday, October 4, 2008. Visitation 9-10 am, Service, 10 am on October 11, at STRANO & FEELEY FUNERAL HOME. Burial following at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Frederick Jacobs

Age 52, of Dover, DE, died Tuesday, September 23, 2008. Survived by 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Memorial service, 1 pm, Thursday, Victory Chapel Church, Rt. 8, Dover. Burial is private. Deborah E. Harris-Nock Funeral Services.

Marguerite T. Kelsey

Marguerite T. Kelsey, age 97, died peacefully on October 4, 2008 surrounded by family.

The daughter of the late Charles and Antoinette Serre Townsend, Peg received an undergraduate and master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She worked as a social worker in Pennsylvania. Later Mrs. Kelsey taught history and served as a college counselor at the Tatnall School in Wilmington. After retirement, she greatly enjoyed volunteering and taking classes at the University of Delaware Academy of Lifelong Learning. She will be remembered for her passion for American history and always as a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.

Mrs. Kelsey was predeceased by her husband, Denham Arthur Kelsey, Jr. She is survived by her son Bruce Kelsey and his wife Diane of Hockessin, DE; her granddaughter Mira E. Kelsey of Boston, MA; her sister Elizabeth S. Townsend of Wilmington, DE; and her brother, John C. Townsend of Vera Beach, FL.

Graveside services will be private.

Matthew Ryan Lee "Matty Matt"

Mathew Ryan "Matty Matt" Lee, 22, of Kennett Square, PA, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2008.

Born July 17, 1986, he was the son of Janae Lee Branch of Kennett Square and William Jackson of Jacksonville, FL. Mathew graduated from Kennett High School in 2005. Mathew enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His interests were football and he was especially interested in basketball. He played basketball when he attended Case.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Janae Lee Branch and his father, William Jackson of Jacksonville, FL; his maternal grandmother, Francine Lee and paternal grandmother, Diane Jackson of Jacksonville, FL; siblings, Kiana Crampton, Aja Branch, and Todd Branch, Jr. all of Kennett Square, Malcolm Jackson if Jacksonville, FL, Jazmin Jackson of Goose Creek, SC, and Tiana Thompson of Jacksonville, FL. He is also survived by 4 uncles, 2 great aunts, and a multitude of family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to attend Mathew's viewing, Wednesday, October 8, from 5-7 pm at the DeBaptiste Funeral Homes, Inc. Worthington & Miners Sts. West Chester, PA. The service will begin immediately following the viewing. Interment will be Thursday, October 9, 2008 at 10 am at the Union Hill Cemetery, Kennett Square, PA. Uplifting Life Services are being arranged by the DeBaptiste Funeral Homes Inc. of West Chester and Bryn Mawr.

Rosemary Donnelly Lewis

Age 69, of Newark, DE, died Monday, October 6, 2008. Funeral service and interment will be private. Arrangements by Hicks Home for Funerals, P.A., Elkton, MD.

Jane C. Moore

Age 100, of Dover, DE passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2008 in Capitol Healthcare, Dover. Funeral services, 1pm Friday October 10, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt. 10), Dover, DE.

John S. (Jack) Pierce, Jr.

John S. (Jack) Pierce, Jr., 69, of West Grove, PA, died at his home October 6, 2008. He left this world for the happy hunting grounds.

A lifelong resident of West Grove, Mr. Pierce was born on July 24, 1939, the son of the late John S. and Edna Steward Pierce. He was an arborist and worked for the University of Delaware for 34 years. He spent his time helping many farmers plow their fields and milk cows in the Kemblesville area. John was a member of the New London Gun Club in Treaster Valley, the Strasburg Sportsmen Association, the Eastern Lancaster Gun and Rod Club and the Moose Lodge in Elkton, MD. His hobbies included bowling, hunting and playing poker with his daughters and grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time in the mountains in the cabin back in the woods. His greatest joy was spending time with family and sitting outside in his chair and watching the world go by.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sharon F. Pierce of West Grove; 2 daughters, Jodie S. Neal and her husband David of Landenberg, PA and Alissa N. Woods and her husband Jason of Atglen, PA; 5 grandchildren, Kathryn (Star) Shepard, Elizabeth (Lauren) Shepard, David (Lil D) Neal, Jr., Hunter (Bubba) Neal and Brooklyn (Weed) Woods and a great granddaughter Lily Carpenter. He also leaves behind 6 brothers, Bob, Bud, Kenny, Jim, Boyd and Joe Pierce; a sister Jane Pierce as well as several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday October 14, 2008 at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE 19711. Friends and family may call at the funeral home Monday evening October 13 from 6-8 pm or one hour prior to the service, Burial will be in Kemblesville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Charitable contributions in John's memory may be made to Willow Tree Hospice c/o the funeral home.
