Sara L. Rottmann "Sally"

Age 62, of Milford, DE, died October 10, 2008 at Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hosp. Services, held at noon on Monday, October 13, at Rogers Funeral Home, 301 Lakeview Ave, Milford. Visitation 2 hours prior.

Walter P. Petrucci, Sr.

Walter P. Petrucci, Sr., age 85, husband of the late Dolores Perugini Petrucci of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

Walter was an industrial air conditioning and refrigerator mechanic for Peuchen Mechanical Inc. for 45 years before retiring in 1985. Throughout Walter's life, he enjoyed vegetable gardening and holidays with his family. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army.

Walter is survived by his son, Dan and his companion Fran Turtoro; 3 daughters, Nancy Gland (Jim), Dolores Petrucci, Theresa Petrucci; daughter-in-law, Betty Lou Petrucci; 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by 4 sisters, Mae, Elma, Eva and Pini. Walter was preceded in death by his son, Walter, Jr.

Walter's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Compassionate Care Hospice for the loving care given to their father.

Family and friends may visit from 9:30-11:30 am on Monday October 13, 2008 at CORLETO LATINA FUNERAL HOME, 808 N. Union Street. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at noon at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 901 N. DuPont Street. Entombment will follow Mass in Cathedral Cemetery.

George L. Pearson, Jr. "Les"

Age 81, of Meadowwood, passed away at Manor Care Nursing Home on Wednesday. October 8,2008.

Les was born April 28, 1927, on his father's birthday, to George L. and Sara Stidham Pearson in Wilmington, DE. Following graduation from Conrad High School in 1945, he joined the Navy serving aboard the USS Washburn. After his discharge in 1949, Les entered the construction business with his father before beginning his own home repair business in 1950. In 1956 he and his wife, Nancy founded Pearson Hardware in a corner of her father's grocery store. The business soon took over the entire store and in 1995 they began switching to a flag and souvenir shop, which is now Pearson's Flags. They survived several devastating floods and he was still trying to come to the business even while in failing health. He really enjoyed, and will miss, his trips to Atlantic City casinos. Les was a very private person whose whole life centered around his family and his business. His love for all animals and birds was evident at the store where he delighted in feeding them daily.

In addition to his parents. Les was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Coste in 1976. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Nancy Maclary Pearson; his daughters, Cindy Hemphill (Dean) of Dallas, TX and Vicki Pearson of Newark, DE. He is also survived by his 5 cats whom he loved dearly, Cassie, Bubbles, Shelley, Manny and Jack, and his 2 brothers-in-law, James Maclary (Mary) and Kenneth Maclary.

Funeral services will be 11:30 am, Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at Nichols-Gilmore Funeral Home, 212 E. Justis St., Newport, DE where visitation will begin at 10am. Interment will follow in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE.

The family suggests contributions in Les's memory to your favorite charity.

Mary Frances (Hill) Owens

Mary Frances (Hill) Owens, age 87, of Laurel, DE and Lynnhaven, FL passed away Thursday, October 9, 2008, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE.

She was born June 12, 1921 in Mountain City, TN daughter of the late Thomas and Beulah (Meadwell) Hill. Mrs. Owens was good Christian woman who provided loving care in her home for war veterans. She was an excellent cook and everyone wanted a seat at her table. She was a highly skilled seamstress; an avid reader; and had a green thumb for gardening. She collected and read cookbooks. During WW II, she worked at the Elkton, MD munitions plant and following the war, she was a waitress in the New Castle County area for several restaurants. She was an active member of the Shiloh Community Church in Laurel, DE and the Temple Baptist Church in Panama City, FL. She was loved by all who knew her and will be sorely missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne L. Owens (2004); her daughter, Audrey Tucker; and her 3 brothers. She is survived by 3 daughters, Alice Guida and her husband Frank of Stanley, NC, Deana Neugdbauer and her husband Jerry of Houston, TX, and Ouida Carpenter and her husband Arlan of Laurel, DE with whom she lived; 3 sons, Kenneth Owens, Larry L. Lemon and his wife Jacque all of New Castle County, DE and Steve Owens and his wife Terry of Bevlaville, NC; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Oct. 12, 3pm at PARSELL FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATORIUM, Dodd-Carey Chapel, 307 N. Bedford Street, Georgetown, DE. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 1pm. Graveside services will be held at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 3733 U.S. Highway, 231 N., Panama City, FL on Thursday, October 16, 11am.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.

Gary Alan Menden

Age 74, of Frederica, DE, passed away on October 9, 2008 at KGH Bay Health Dover. Services will be held 4pm Saturday October 18 at Magnolia United Methodist Church, Magnolia, DE. Arr. by Trader Funeral Home.

Ruth Lanning Marvel

Ruth Lanning Marvel peacefully passed away on October 8, 2008 at Delaware Hospice in Milford.

Ruth was born in Bristol, CT on April 18, 1931 to the late Lester A. Lanning and Mildred Phelps Lanning. She was a graduate of Boston University and received her Masters in Education at the University of Delaware. Ruth began her career as Director of Recreational Activities at Delaware State Hospital. She served in the Caesar Rodney School District for 30 years as an instructor of Special Education and later as Assistant Principal of Allen Frear Elementary and W.B. Simpson Elementary schools. She and her late husband, Hugh Marvel summered and later retired to Ocean View, DE. Ruth was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary since 1980. She was very involved in all of the LAVFW programs, especially in the area of Youth Scholarship programs. She served as an auxiliary officer from 2002 until her illness. Ruth continued in the role of adviser and still attended monthly meetings when able. She traveled to San Antonio, TX; Cincinnati, OH; and Reno, NV bringing back awards to her Auxiliary.

She is survived by a daughter, Melinda M. Martin and her husband, Robert C. Martin of Rehoboth Beach; stepdaughters, Sophie Marvel of Lewes, and Muff Marvel of Ocean View; grandchildren, Matt Martin and Ashley Martin of Rehoboth Beach, Kimberly Burton of Lewes, Penny Kinsey of Park City, UT; great grandchildren, Luke and Allaire Burton, and Khaki and Ketch Kinsey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Marvel; brother, Lester Lanning; and stepson, Luke Marvel.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am, Monday, October 13 at St. Georges Chapel located on Rt. 23, Beaver Dam Road in Angola.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriot's Way, Milford, DE 19963, or VFW Post 7234 (Ocean View), 29265 Marshy Hope Way, Ocean View, DE 19970.

Cheryl A. Lewis

Cheryl A. (McGowan) Lewis, 60, currently of Landenberg, PA, passed away at home with her family on Wednesday, October 8, 2008.

Cheryl was born in Delaware County, PA on July 4, 1948 and has been employed as a real estate agent with Patterson-Schwartz for the last 20 years.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, John P. Lewis, Sr.; her sons, John Jr., Robert and Christopher; her mother, Shirley (Eastburn) McGowan; her siblings, Teresa Binck, Robert, Patricia Colarik, Nancy Tassoni and Frances Armstrong and their families; and her sister-in-law, Patricia Braun and her family. Above all, Cheryl enjoyed being a loving grandmother to Ashley, Bobby, Rachel, Danielle, Kaitlyn, Trynity, Anna and Aaron. Cheryl was predeceased by her father, Robert E. McGowan.

Friends may visit with the family at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek on Monday, October 13 from 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Church, E. Chestnut Hill and Gender Roads, Newark on Tuesday, October 14 at 11am. Interment will follow the Mass in All Saints Cemetery.

Barbara Hinson-Arango

Age 62, wife of Jario Arango & mother of Lamont Hinson, died October 9, 2008. Funeral, 11 am Tues., October 14, at CONGO FUNERAL HOME, 201 N. Gray Ave.; viewing 10-11am. Burial, Private.

Judy M. (McDowell) Derrickson

Judy M. (McDowell) Derrickson, age 61, of Bridgeville, DE, passed away Thursday, October 9, 2008, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE. She was born April 21, 1947 in Milford, DE.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 14, 11am at PARSELL FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATORIUM, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville; the Rev. Bruce Legates will be officiating. Interment will be in Bridgeville Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 10am.

Dale Ruston Conard

Age 71, of Dover, DE died Thursday October 9, 2008 at home. Funeral will be 2pm, Monday, October 13, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt. 10), Dover. Friends may call Sunday evening from 7-9pm.

Ruth V. Collins

Age 86, of Georgetown, DE died October 10, 2008 at Beebe Medical Center. Funeral, 1 pm Monday, October 13, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown; visitation, after 11 am. Burial, Hebron Cemetery.

Blanche Short Brittingham

Age 93, of Milford, DE died October 10, 2008. Graveside services, 1pm Monday, October 13 at Milford Community Cemetery, Milford, DE. Arr. by BERRY-SHORT FUNERAL HOME, Milford, DE.

James Edward Barnes, Jr.

Age 94, of New Castle, DE passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at his home.

James (Ed) was born July 16, 1914 in Baltimore, MD. He was a Navy veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific where he fought directly in The Liberation of the Philippines. He was employed at Holt's Tires in Wilmington, DE, and retired as an inspector from Chrysler Corporation. After retirement he made deliveries for Dodd Dental Laboratory in Newport and also served newspapers as a part time job. He was a lifelong Phillies fan, enjoyed fishing and the horse races at Delaware Park.

His wife of 66 years, Mary (Kelley) Barnes died in 2003. Ed was also preceded in death by his grandson, Timothy, and sister, Adele Hale. He is survived by his children; Patricia Treml and her husband, Joseph of Wilmington, Carolyn Burris, James E. Barnes III, and Maryann Barnes all with whom he lived, and Steven Barnes and his wife, Laura of Wilmington, brother, Harry Barnes of Newark, grandchildren; Joseph Treml and wife Michele, Richard Treml and wife, Debbie, Steven, Christopher, and Patrick Barnes, and Kelley Grovola and husband, Joseph, great grandchildren; Meagan and Justin Treml, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at 10am at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3710 Kirkwood Highway at Duncan Road where friends may call on Monday evening from 6-8 pm. Interment will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
