Catherine A. (nee Lewis) Krauss

Of Claymont, DE, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, peacefully at home.

She was the wife of 47 years of Lee B. Krauss. Born in Chester, PA, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Margaret E. Duffy Lewis. Cathy was retired as Cafeteria Manager for Maple Lane School. She enjoyed Bingo, puzzle books and spending time with her friends and family.

In addition to her husband, Cathy is survived by her son, Lee (Michelle) and their sons, Ryan, Brent and Alex of Venice FL; her son, William (Julie)of Claymont and sister, Eileen (Fausto) Navarro of St. Petersburg, FL.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing on Monday, September 29, from 4-6 pm, at Gebhart Funeral Home of Claymont. Interment and service will be private at Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery at a later date.

Jan Mayo

Jan Mayo of Murray Manor died suddenly at home on September 20, 2008.

She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Mayo of New Castle; 2 nephews, Andrew S. Talley and Russell B. Talley and his wife, Kelly; great nephew, Evan; and 2 great nieces, Olivia and Lily. She will also be missed by her many friends.

Jan will be buried on Cape Cod. Services will be private.

Howard Willis

Mr. Howard Willis, age 87, of Newark, DE, died on Monday, September 22, 2008, at his home.

Born in Port Huron, MI on January 22, 1921, Mr. Willis was a son of the late George Edward Willis and Hannah McGee Willis. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII. In civilian life, he made his career with the Chrysler Corporation, retiring as a dispatcher after 39 years of service. Mr. Willis enjoyed many hobbies including collecting model trains, playing the organ, and woodworking in his shop. Known for his quiet and dignified ways, he will be remembered as a "man of few words," who, when he did speak, revealed great wisdom, intelligence, and understanding.

His beloved wife, Dorothy Irene Rosenberger Willis, died in 2004. He is survived by a brother, Stanley Willis of San Carlos, CA; extended family; and good friend, Susan Welsh, who helped care for Mr. Willis in his later years.

Friends may call from 10-11 am on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark, DE. A graveside service will follow at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301 (877-426-2838).

Nicholas V. Angelucci

Age 80, of Vista, CA, formerly of Kennett Square, PA, passed away, on September 25, 2008. Viewing, Friday, October 3, 9:30-11:30, Assumption BVM Ch, 300 State Rd., West Grove, PA. Service, at 11:30 am. Arr Kuzo & Grieco FH.

James H. Briggs, Sr.

Age 67, of Bear, DE, passed away on September 26, 2008, at his home.

Born in Providence RI, he was the son of the late Harry and Doris Wenning Briggs. He was employed as an electrician for Chrysler and a member of the UAW Union local 1183. He was a member of the Elks Club and a longtime fan and contributor of Delaware Park Race Track.

Mr. Briggs is survived by his sons, James, Jr. (Marie) of Smyrna, DE, Christopher H. (Randy Elmer) of Elkton, MD; daughters, Mary Minner (Suzanne Anderson) of Daniel Island SC, Patricia Briggs (Brian Muller) of Northeast, MD; granddaughter, Samantha Leigh Eberhardt and sister, Helen Pearce of New London, NC and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation from 5-6 pm, on Wednesday, October 1, at Beeson Funeral Home of Newark, 2053 Pulaski Hwy., Newark DE 19702 followed by a time of eulogy and fellowship starting at 6 pm. Interment will be private.

Cora Lee Farnan "Mom Mom"

After a long battle with breast cancer, Cora Lee, of Chesapeake City, MD, formerly of Wilmington DE, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 26, 2008.

Cora Lee was well known by many at Delcastle Technical High School for her longtime involvement running the Athletic Association Booster Program and night school cafeteria. Cora Lee was an avid book reader, gardener and cook. Most of all, she enjoyed being surrounded by her family. Cora Lee will be sadly missed.

Cora Lee is survived by her husband of 39 years, Bernard Farnan; 4 children, Deborah Walters, Julie Studzinski and her husband, Stanley, Rick Carver and his wife, Nancy and Michael Farnan; four grandchildren, Richard Tori, ILene Studzinski, Andrew Studzinski, and Ricky Carver; four adopted grandchildren, Christopher Roehm, Derek, Nicholas and Jacqueline Simpson; two great-grand-children, Cora and Cole Tori and three very much loved sisters-in-law, Mary Mon-ahan, Christine Kac-zmarczyk, and Pat McLaughlin and her husband Bill as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the doctors and nurses at the Helen Graham Cancer Center and the staff of Seasons Hospice of Elkton, MD.

Services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center 4735 Ogletown-Stanton Rd., Newark, DE 19713.

Michael J. McDermott

Michael J. McDermott, age 23, of Newark, DE, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 26, 2008 in Sanford, ME.

Michael was born on November 24, 1984 in Wilmington, DE and had worked as a carpet and flooring installer, for Reavis Flooring in Marshallton, for over seven years. He was a member of St. John's-Holy Angels' Parish. Michael loved to swim, play lacrosse and was an avid New York Giants football fan.

Michael is survived by his son, Carter Matthew McDermott; fiancée, Shannon M. Wooters of Newark, DE; parents, Ann P. Lawler and Ronald C. Weaverling of Newark, DE; sisters, Nicole M. and Jennifer H. McDermott of Newark, DE; brother, Matthew C. McDermott of Newark, DE; maternal grandparents, Alfred and Marcella Lawler of Newark, DE; paternal grandparents, Raymond and Patricia Weaverling of Wilmington, DE; and two nephews and one niece.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 am on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, East Main & North Chapel Streets, Newark. A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, September, 30th at Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 121 W. Park Place, Newark.

Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery, 6001 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington.

John J. Amato, Jr.

Mr. John J. Amato, Jr., age 47 of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2008.

John was born on November 16, 1960. He was a longtime employee of the City of Wilmington Water Department, largely acting in supervisory roles. John was an avid camper, finding joy and solace in the activity, and was also a passionate fan of NASCAR. He also possessed a profound love for animals, holding a particular affection for dogs. A true and consummate survivor, John was characterized by his admirable courage and perseverance. He was a great man, as evident in the immeasurable love and respect he garnered from family and friends, many of which he affectionately called his "boys".

John possessed endless commitment to loved ones, characterized by his endless devotion to his mother, Anne, and adoration of his partner and best friend of 27 years, and wife of 17, Michele.

John is survived by mother, Ann V. (Haggerty) Amato; wife, Michele A. (Cadwallader) Amato; mother-in-law, Rose; sisters-in-law, Debbie Knott and her husband, Chuck, and Carol Clayton and her husband, Jim; nephews, Chuck Jr., Justin, Tyler; niece, Isabel; godchildren, Brent and Alex; "best boy", Paul Jr., and the many additional children of close family and friends whom John regarded as special and cherished limitlessly; many aunts and uncles; and a host of extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his father, John J. Amato, Sr.; and father-in-law, Dave.

A Funeral Service will be held at the CHARLES P. ARCARO FUNERAL HOME, 2309 Lancaster Ave. (opp. Cathedral Cem), on Saturday morning, October 4 at 10:30am. Entombment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening, October 3 from 6-8pm, and on Saturday morning, prior to service, from 9:30-10:30am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A. Street, Wilmington, DE 19801, or to the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
