Of Dover, DE, age 93, died Friday October 3, 2008. A visitation will be held from 11 am-1 pm, Thursday October 9, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover, DE 19904. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.

William C. Wheeler

Of Smyrna, DE, age 80, passed away October 3, 2008. Services will be held at 12 noon, on Tuesday, October 7, at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, DE. Friends may call on Tuesday at 11 am.

Dorothy Brockway Williams

Age 92, of Lewes, DE, died October 3, 2008. Funeral, 11am Thurs. October 9 at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Long Neck Rd., Millsboro; visitation after 10am. Burial: Henlopen Memorial Cemetery

Joan Maxine Wooden

Mrs. Joan Maxine Wooden, widow of Dr. Allen C. Wooden, MD, passed away on October 3, 2008.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, nurse, and public servant. Trained originally as concert pianist and classical ballerina, Mrs. Wooden became a RN who worked alongside her husband in his medical practice. She also volunteered as a nurse in the American Red Cross for over 55 years, receiving an award from Red Cross President Elizabeth Dole in recognition for 50 years of volunteer service. She was also an active member of the Junior Board of St. Francis Hospital and a joyful and enthusiastic member of the Delaware Saengerbund. Mrs. Wooden enjoyed taking classes with the Life Long Learning Institute at the University of Delaware, and while fluent in Polish, spent many years acquiring fluency in German and other Slavic languages, which she utilized in her frequent travels. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing, gourmet cooking, and theater. She was a devoted member of the St. Helena's Parish in the diocese of Wilmington and was honored with a papal blessing on the occasion of her 80th birthday by his holiness John Paul II in 1999.

Mrs. Wooden was predeceased by her parents, Alexander Prawdzik and Mary Kluga; her sister, Dolores Ballard and her husband Dr. Allen C. Wooden, MD. She is survived by her children, Joan April Wooden Blazich and Allen C. Wooden, Jr.; grandchildren, Dr. Joan Michelle Blazich, Frank A. Blazich, Jr., Heather Wooden and Ryan Wooden.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am, Wednesday, October 8, at St. Helena's Catholic Church, where a viewing will be held from 10-11 am. Interment will be at Cathedral Cemetery.

Monetary donations in her honor may be sent to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A. Street, Wilmington, DE 19801; St. Helena's Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington, DE 19809; or the charity of your choice.

Florence E. Armstrong

Mrs. Florence E. "Teenie" Armstrong, age 88, of Delaware City, DE, died on Sunday, October 5, 2008, at Christiana Hospital.

Mrs. Armstrong was born in Wilmington on September 23, 1920, daughter of the late Joseph Pasquino and Laura Evans Pasquino. A lifelong resident of Delaware City, she was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Delaware City Recreation Club, where she enjoyed bowling with friends. She was also a member of OES Caesar Rodney Chapter #8 in New Castle and was an avid Phillies fan. Mrs. Armstrong will be long remembered as a talented homemaker, a devoted wife and mother, and a friendly, caring person to everyone she met.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles C. "Buddy" Armstrong, Sr. in 1987, and by 4 siblings. She is survived by 2 children, Judith A. Reynolds and husband, Eugene, Jr., of St. Georges, DE; and Charles C. Armstrong, Jr. and wife, Susan, of Bear, DE; 7 siblings, Alfred Pasquino of Delaware City, DE; Paul Pasquino of Indiana; Frank Pasquino of Colorado; Robert Dale Pasquino of Texas; Helen Hickey of Stanton, DE; Edith Murphy of Delaware City, DE; and Catherine Breeding of Delaware City, DE; 6 grandchildren, Eugene Reynolds III and wife, Kym; Lori Hitchens and husband, Charlie; Scott Reynolds and wife, Denise; Tonya Armstrong-Widdoes and husband, Mark; Amanda Armstrong; and Charles C. Armstrong III; 7 great grandchildren; and good friend and neighbor, John Nickle, Jr.

A graveside service will be held at 1 pm on Thursday, October 9, at Delaware City Cemetery, Clinton Street, Delaware City, DE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Delaware City, P.O. Box 4105, Delaware City, DE 19706.

Florence "Bunny" Bermender

Age 63, Middletown, DE, passed away, October 4, 2008. Memorial service, 11 am, October 7, Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St, Middletown; visitaton 10:30-11 am.

Marie Ignudo Bianchino

Age 76, of Wilmington, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, October 5, 2008, at Christiana Hospital.

Born in Wilmington, Mrs. Bianchino was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (DeLuca) Ignudo. She graduated from Wilmington High School in 1949. She married Lawrence R. Bianchino on May 5, 1954 and together they had three children. For 18 years, she worked for Wilmington Trust, retiring in 1984 from the Corporate Custody Division. Prior to Wilmington Trust, Mrs. Bianchino was a secretary at Equitable Life Insurance Company and Delaware Park. She was a member of St. Matthew Church for 51 years and coached CYO cheerleading for many years. Marie was a loyal wife, mother and friend, known for her candor and sincerity. Friends were very important to Marie, and she made great efforts to maintain friendships with classmates and coworkers through the years, but especially cherished her lifelong friends known as 'The Club Girls.' They gathered weekly for cards and conversation, sharing sorrows and joys throughout their lives. She enjoyed baking and cooking, movies and traveling, but most of all looked forward to time spent with her family.

Her husband, Lawrence R. Bianchino, predeceased her in 1992. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Angelo, Frankie, Thomas, Carmen Ignudo; and her sister, Florence George. Marie will be dearly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Rob Miller of Newark; her sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Deby of Newark and Andrew and Kate of Wilmington; and her grandchildren, Jeff, Timmy, Matt, Alaina, Carrie, Christopher, Sam, and Luke. Also surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Gloria and Phil Corrozi of Wilmington; her sisters-in-law, Agnes and Sandy Ignudo and Margaret and Vera Bianchino, her dear Aunt Bambina DeLuca, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to the physicians, nurses and staff of Christiana Hospital for their compassionate care of Marie during her illness and for their sensitivity and concern for the family.

Friends and family are invited to visitation on Wednesday, October 8, between 6-8 pm, at MEALEY FUNERAL HOME, Limestone and Milltown Roads, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning at 10 am, at St. Matthew Church, 901 E. Newport Pike, Wilmington. Interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association, 100 West 10th Street, #1002, Wilmington, DE 19801.

David Holmes Blest "Dave"

Age 52, formerly of Claymont, DE, passed away suddenly at Christiana Hospital on Saturday, October 4, 2008.

He was the son of the late Richard T. and Anne (Holmes) Blest. Dave was employed by United Water Company for over 20 years and most recently, by First State Construction Company. He loved fishing, bowling and was a avid Philadelphia Sports fan, especially the Eagles. His favorite music idol was "The Boss", Bruce Springstein. Dave was a gentle giant who touched so many lives. He loved spending time with family and friends and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Dave is survived by his brother, Keith T. Blest and his wife, Marie of North Wilmington, DE; sister, Jill Blest-Whitehead and her husband, Michael, Sr. of Newark, DE; nephews, Paul Blest and Michael Whitehead, Jr.; and niece, Christina Carroll. Dave is also survived by Matt Carroll, who Dave loved and raised as his son.

The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to the staff at the MICU of Christiana Hospital, especially, "Debi" and "Pat" for their exceptional care given to Dave.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation on Thursday, October 9, from 6-8 pm, at the Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE, where the memorial service will begin at 8 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Gift of Life Donor Program, 401 North 3rd St., Philadelphia, PA 19123-4101.

Ellen L. Antkiewicz

Ellen L. Antkiewicz, age 45 of Wilmington, DE passed away on Monday October 5, 2008.

Ellen was the daughter of the late, Stanley and Florene Antkiewicz. She was a 1981 graduate of John Dickinson High School. She was a loving sister, aunt and friend.

Ellen is survived by her brothers, Walter Antkiewicz and Joseph Antkiewicz (Bernadette Kostelnik); her sister, Mary J. Fincken and her husband David; her nephews, Joseph Slavish and Craig Fincken; her niece, Kelley A. Slavish; her former husband and friend, Michael Glynn and many dear friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service being held for Ellen at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Road Pike Creek on Saturday October 11, 2008 at 12:30pm. Burial will be held privately with the family.

George Edward Bivens, III.

Of New Castle, DE, age 48, passed Monday, October 6, 2008, Hillside House. Services, 11 am, Friday, October 10, at The House of Wright Mortuary, 208 E. 35th St., Wilmington, DE. Viewing, 9-11 am.

Anna M. Bodilly

Age 66, of Newark, DE, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at home.

Anna was a secretary at DuPont's.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas C. Bodilly; sons, Brian Hotchkiss of New York, NY and Derek Hotchkiss and wife Tami of New Castle, DE; a step daughter, Carol Arndt of Ft. Houstis, VA; a brother, James Uniatowski and wife Linda of Elkton, MD; and 4 grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, October 10, in St. John's Church, E. Main St., Newark, DE with burial to follow in All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720.
