Age 80 of Felton, DE died Oct. 6, 2008 at John Hopkins Hospital. Funeral, 1pm Friday, Oct. 10, at Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Visitation Thursday 7-9pm. Interment, Hopkins Cemetery, Felton.

Ella Carr

Of Cumberland, RI, Ella Hanna Braden Carr, 91, of Eisenhower Street and formerly of Wilmington, DE, died Wednesday, October 1, 2008, at home. She was the beloved wife of the late Oscar L. Carr.

Born in West Chester, PA a daughter of the late Levi C. and Lucy A. (Longdon) Hanna, and raised by the late Mr. and Mrs. James Braden, she had lived in Wilmington for over 70 years with Oscar before moving to Cumberland four years ago to be with her family. Mrs. Carr was a homecare companion for many years. She was a member of the former Harrison Street Methodist Church, Wilmington, and later the Peninsula McCabe United Methodist Church, Wilmington, where she was an active member of the church, serving on many committees, including the Fidelis Group, the Sunshine Club and the United Methodist Women's Club. Mrs. Carr also served as a communion steward and chairperson of flowers for the church. She was a 1936 graduate of Altoona High School, Altoona, PA.

She is survived by her daughter, June C. Wood and her husband, Larry E. Wood of Cumberland, RI; her 2 grandchildren, Lisa N. Bellavance, and her husband Cyril J. Bellavance, III., of Uxbridge, MAl and Ryan C. Wood of New York NY; and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Oscar L. Carr, Jr., and the sister of the late Adeline O'Neill, Jacob Hanna, Ruth Clouser, Lily Sylvester, Alice Styer, and George Hanna.

The family would like to thank Mrs. Anne Fletcher, a family friend; Dr. Stanley Balon of Cumberland; and Beacon Hospice for their wonderful care of Mrs. Carr.

Her memorial service will be held Friday, October 10, at 11 am, in Peninsula McCabe United Methodist Church, 2200 Baynard Boulevard, Wilmington. Interment at Silverbrook Cemetery will immediately follow the memorial service. Following the interment, refreshments will be served at Peninsula McCabe.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Peninsula McCabe United Methodist Church, Wilmington and Beacon Hospice, 1 Catamore Boulevard, East Providence, RI 02914.

Purily Dixon

Age 62, of Seaford, DE, died October 2, 2008. Survived by son, Todd and daughter, April Dixon; 4 brothers & 2 sisters. Service, 11 am, Saturday, October 11, at St. John's 2nd Baptist Church, Millsboro.Harris-Nock Funeral Services.

Grace Anna Ferguson

Age 80, of Claymont, DE, passed away on October 3, 2008 at Hahnaman University Hospital, Philadelphia, PA.

Born in Middletown, PA, she was a resident of Claymont, DE since 1993. She previously lived in Brook-lawn, NJ, West Collingswood, NJ and Oceanside, CA with her son Larry for 2 years. She was a homemaker in her early years, after the divorce from her husband, the late Earl R. Ferguson, she focused on the raising, caring and educating of her 2 son's, Larry and Gene. Not only was she their mother, but she also served as father in their early childhood rearing years working in retail and ultimately for Helovet Pharmaceutical in Pennsauken, NJ as an inspector in Quality Assurance for 10 years until her retirement in 1990. Her priority was her children and education, She left school at the age of 17, however after her son's graduated, she then pursued and attained her GED. A bladder cancer survivor, she also suffered and survived a massive heart attack, however, most recently was succumbed by congestive heart failure. One of her hobbies was crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilfred and Anna Thompson. She was the last surviving and youngest of 8 siblings. She is survived by her sons, Larry E. (Harumi) Ferguson of Oceanside, CA and Gene R. (Jeanne) Ferguson of Oaklyn, NJ.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, October 9, at 2pm at the Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Rd. Bethel Twp., PA. Interment will be private. Viewing will be Thursday, from 1-2pm prior to service at the funeral home.

Clarence J. Godlove

(November 8, 1921-October 6, 2008)

Clarence J. "Bud" Godlove, 86, of Boalsburg, PA, died on Monday, October 6, 2008, at the Hearthside Nursing Home in State College.

Born in Baltimore, MD on November 8, 1921, he is a son of the late Joseph and Rosa B. (Hayward) Godlove. He is married to Virginia (Silverwood) Godlove, who survives at Hearthside Nursing Home. He was born and had lived most of his life in Baltimore, MD. As a youth he served in CC Camp in Glen Rock, PA. During World War II he served in the US Army in Northern France where he was awarded the Purple Heart with the Oak Leaf Cluster. He retired from the Baltimore city post office in 1980 and moved to Long Beach, NC where he built his own retirement home. In 2005, he moved with his wife to State College, PA. He was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Church of Wilmington, NC. He loved to read and become involved in social justice causes.

Along with his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters, Patricia Ann Taylor and her husband David Schaal of Minneapolis, MN, and Katherine Rose Kahler and her husband Gerhard O. of Boalsburg, PA; 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

All services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Donald F. Gross, Sr. "Hockey"

Age 74 died October 6, 2008 at the Wilmington Hospital.

Husband of Phyllis Harris-Gross, son of the late Walter Gross, and Catherine Gross. He is survived by his sister, Consuella Gross; his children, Donald F. Gross Jr. (Mary), Gregory L. Gross, Consuella Floyd (Richard) and Robert O'Neal; 1 nephew, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren.

Memorial services at Mother U.A.M.E. Church, 701 E. 5th St., Wilm., October 9 at 7 pm.

Hervey L. Haines

Hervey L. Haines, 67, of Warwick, MD, formerly of Rising Sun, passed away October 6, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family and friends.

Mr. Haines was born in Havre de Grace, MD on December 5, 1940, the son of the late George Lamar and Miriam Lysle Haines. He retired from Chrysler Corporation in 1989 with 30 years of service. Following his retirement he was a home improvement contractor and later returned to the auto industry as a vendor representative. Hervey was a member of UAW Local 1183. He enjoyed gardening and was influential in the lives of everyone he met. His motto was "a stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet".

He is survived by his wife Betty Jo (BJ) Haines of Warwick; 3 sons, Kenneth Haines and his wife Becky of Havre de Grace, Steven Haines and his companion Lindsay Tulloch, and Mark Haines and his wife Kim, both of Rising Sun; 2 daughters, Sara Hulbert and her husband Tom of Ellicott City, MD and Shelly Murphy of Congers, NY; 7 grandchildren, Cindy West and her husband Jason, Brook, Erik, Kyle and Brittnee Haines and Lillian and Jonathan Hulbert and a great granddaughter Emma Grace West. He also leaves behind a brother, George Haines of California; 5 sisters, Carolyn DiVirgilio of Georgia, Margaret Griggs of Arizona, Edith Sumner of Oxford, PA, Jane Butcher of Potomac, MD and Diane Tate of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his brother, Philip (Sam) Haines.

A funeral service will be held at Janes United Methodist Church, 213 Walnut St., Rising Sun, MD 21911 on Saturday October 11, 2008 at 11am. A viewing will be held at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St. in Rising Sun on Friday October 10 from 6-8pm or one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Rosebank Cemetery.

Marion W. "Pete" Henry

Age 82 of Laurel, DE, passed away on October 6, 2008, at his home in Laurel.

He was born in Laurel, DE on June 6, 1926 and was a son of the late Charlie K. and Julia Hitch Henry. Pete has been disabled since February 1, 1977. He is a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Laurel. He proudly served his country in the United State Navy as a Medic and was a member of the American Legion Post #19 in Laurel. Mr. Henry was Past Noble Grand of Charity Lodge #27, IOOF in Laurel, where he was also a charter. Member of the Martha Rebekah Lodge #21, IOOF Laurel. A charter member of the Laurel Alumni Association and Delaware Campers Association.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Katherine; 2 sons, Steven D. Henry and wife, Teresa of Seaford, Fred A. Henry and wife, Betty of Cumberland, VA; 6 grandchildren, Douglas S. Henry and wife, Michelle, of Seaford, DE, Kathy Hill and husband, Randy of Seaford, DE, Donna H. Meding and husband, Scott, of Seaford, Jennifer H. Jones and husband, James of Pittsville, MD, PFC David Lee Henry who is stationed at Fort Picket in Blackstone, VA and Casey Henry of Cumberland, VA; 7 great-grandchildren, Justin Lee Hill, Brittany Hill, Victoria Henry, Tyler Meding, Alexander West, Andrew West and Christopher Jones, 3 step-grandchildren and 4 step-great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Nellie Justice and husband, Hoyet of Laurel and Jean Holston and husband, Jerry, of Laurel, several nephews and 1 niece.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Hannigan Short-Disharoon Funeral Home, 700 West St. Laurel, DE on Thursday, October 9, 2008, at 2 pm. A viewing will be held Wednesday evening at the Funeral Home from 7-8:30 pm. Internment with Military Honors will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Wayne Grier will officiate.

Robert M. Cautillo "Bob"

Suddenly, at home, Bob was called to be with the Lord on October 3, 2008.

Bob graduated from Delcastle High School. He was employed at Bayshore Ford where he often achieved "salesman of the month." He enjoyed spending summers with his parents at their home in Broadkill Beach.

Bob is survived by his children, Barbara, Bobby and Christopher; his parents, Benito and Jane Cautillo and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends at Bayshore Ford. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joanne.

Family and friends are invited to Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, October 8, at 12:30 pm, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 9th & DuPont St., Wilmington. Calling hours for Mr. Cautillo are also on Wednesday at the Corleto-Latina Funeral Home, 808 N. Union St., Wilmington, from 10:30 am until 12 noon. Burial in Gracelawn Memorial Park will follow mass.

David Braunstein

Age 87, passed peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2008.

Born in Wilmington on October 8, 1920, a graduate of Tower Hill School, David spent his life making his mark as a major retailer - Braunstein's a family business started in the early 1920's. As it was known "The Fashion Capital of Delaware" was a nationally recognized retail corporation. In 1970 he was very proud to be elected chairman of the board of Abercrombie & Fitch Co. David's interests were varied and his philanthropies many. He was a local leader serving on many boards and organizations including President Emeritus of the Jewish Federation of Delaware; a Founding Member of the Brandywine Country Club; served on the Delaware Equal Opportunity Commission and was recognized by the State of Israel for service and contributions to the United Jewish Appeal.

He will be sadly missed by his family including his loving wife, Doris; son, Eric; daughter, Carol; granddaughter, Corey; his sister, Freda Sachs; nieces, Margory Bruck, Ellen Kogan and their families.

A memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, October 7, at 1 pm, at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike Wilmington, DE 19803. Internment will be private.
