Erika V. Hauber-Kimbiris
Erika V. Hauber-Kimbiris, age 31, formerly of Wilmington, DE and Bala Cynwyd, PA, died on February 11, 2008 in Seabrook, TX after a 5-1/2 year battle with breast cancer.
Erika graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1994 and from Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA in 1998. She was employed by Harcourt Publishing that later became Promissor Publishing in marketing and graphic design. She was later employed by P.A.S. of Seabrook, TX. She was a member of the Omega Chi Sorority at Ursinus College and played field hockey at both Ursuline and Ursinus.
She is survived by her husband, Paul A. Kimbiris; her parents, Robert and Nina Hauber of Wilmington; an aunt; an uncle; several cousins, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dr. Dimitrious and Vasiliki Kimbiris; 2 nieces; god-daughter, Alexandra Kimbiris. Erika is also survived by her husband's 2 brothers and their wives.
Memorial services will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Bomberger Hall of Ursinus College, Collegeville, PA.

Armelvis Booker "Artie"
Age 38, went home to be with the Lord May 3, 2008, in Baltimore, MD. She is the beloved mother of Jakevis Booker; loving daughter of Regina D. Booker and Melvin Briscoe; sister of Sophonia (Sophie) Booker and Malkia Booker. Also survived by 2 nieces, Janai Jason and Nyla Jason; 1 nephew, Jabree Miles; a special friend Trevor Britt; 6 god-children, a host of aunts, uncles and cousins; her Delta Sorors, and many friends. Homegoing Service 10 am Sat., May 10, at Shiloh Baptist Church, 215 W. 23rd St., Wilm., DE 19802, with viewing from 8-9:30 am only. Delta Sigma Theta Tribute will begin at 9:30 am. Gerald P. Doherty, III "Doc"
Mr. Gerald P. Doherty, III, 87 of Wilmington, DE, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2008.
Doc was born in Wilmington on March 3, 1921, son of the late Gerald P., Jr. and Myrtle (Holmes) Doherty. A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he proudly served our country during World War II in the Pacific Theatre, fighting in the battles for Guadalcanal, Bougainville and Iwo Jima. Doc was a graduate of Archmere Academy and a 1948 graduate of the University of Delaware. He was employed as an industrial engineer with General Motors Corporation, retiring after 27 years of dedicated service. Throughout his life, Doc was an avid sports enthusiast and an accomplished athlete. During his years at the University of Delaware, he lettered 3 years each in football and baseball. He was awarded 3rd team All American Honors as a halfback on the 1946 National Championship team. During that year in a game against Gettysburg, he set a school record by rushing 220 yards in only 6 carries. His single game rushing record stood for 48 years. He continues to hold the record for the most yards per carry in a single game.
In baseball, Doc also set a school record of 25 stolen bases in 1947. He had the honor of being inducted into the Archmere Academy Sports Hall of Fame, the University of Delaware Sports Hall of Fame and the State of Delaware Sports Hall of Fame. Doc also enjoyed a 35 year tenure as a high school football official. He was a member of St. John the Beloved Parish.
His beloved wife of 51 years, Betty M. (Walston) Doherty, passed away on October 16, 1993.Doc is survived by his sons, Gerald P., IV. and his wife, Susan M. of Wilm. And Bruce T. and his wife, Carol of Kaolin, PA; his daughters, Jill Baxter of Newark and Wendy Connolly and her husband, Mike of Mendenhall Village; his grandchildren, Kelle Sanchez, Brooke Thaler, Sean Connolly, Nicole Baxter and Brent, Elizabeth and Jennifer Doherty; and his great-grandchildren, Sophie and Olivia Sanchez, Max, Nate and Will Thaler and Jocelyn and Kyle Doherty. He is also survived by his brothers, William Doherty and John Holmes Doherty; his sisters, Helen Doherty, Kitty McCarthy and Nancy Lynch; and many nieces and nephews. Doc was predeceased by his brother; Philip Doherty; and his sister, Myrtle Brunhammer.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Manor Care Pike Creek for the loving and attentive care given to Doc.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Rd., Wilmington on Thursday, June 5, at 11 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Family and friends may visit at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek on Wednesday, June 4, from 6-8 pm.

Margaret Mary Conaway
Margaret Mary Conaway, 94, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2008, at Genesis Elder Care in Seaford, DE.
Margaret was born on April 17, 1914, in Wilmington, Delaware. She was the daughter of the late Charles A. Dougherty and Mary S. Kooch of Wilmington, Delaware. She married her late husband, Joseph C. Conaway, in 1935. Margaret graduated from Saint Patrick's Commercial High School in Wilmington, Delaware, in 1929 and was employed with Woolworth Five and Ten in Wilmington. After marrying in 1935, Margaret remained a stay-at-home mother. In 1974 she and her husband moved to Bridgeville. She was an active member of the Greenwood Cheer Center and the Bridgeville Fire Company's Ladies' Auxiliary.
She was predeceased by five brothers and one sister. She is survived by her only son, Joseph T. Conaway, and his, wife, Joann, of Bridgeville, Delaware, four grandchildren, Joanne T. Collison and husband R. Michael, Bridgeville, DE; Jenyfer T. Conaway, Winnsboro, South Carolina, Jill T. Lewandowski and husband Edward A., of Bridgeville and Warrant Officer I Joseph T. Conaway II and wife Connie Faye of Hampton, GA.; seven great-granddaughters, Amanda, Lindsey and Chelsea Collison; Kyrra and Kori Lewandowski; and Samantha and Kayleigh Conaway. In addition she is survived by three sisters-in-law, Josephine Sharp, Dorothy Fenimore and Ann Dougherty and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Seaford, Delaware. Honorary pallbearers will be Joseph T. Conaway II, Joseph F. Battaglia and David Bleiler. Pallbears will be R. Michael Collison, Edward A. Lewandowski, The Honorable Tony de Luca, Steve Deery, Bayard Sharp and Jim Cooper.
Friends may call from 6-8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 3, at the PARSELL FUNERAL HOMES & CREMATORIUM, Hardesty Chapel, 202 Laws Street, Bridgeville, Delaware. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stein Highway, Seaford, Delaware, at 11 am, on Wednesday, June 4. Interment will follow at the Bridgeville Cemetery in Bridgeville, Delaware.

Donald Atwood
Donald Atwood, a long time resident of Bladensberg, MD and a recent addition to the Wilmington, DE community, passed away on June 16, 2008 at the age of 73.
Don was a veteran of the United States Air Force, an avid fisherman and a Redskins fan.
He will be missed by his sister, Patricia A. Hoffmeir and her children and grandchildren, long time area residents. He is also survived by his daughter, Barbara Atwood Prevo and her family of Crofton, MD.
Services will be private.

George Eugene "Gene" Bryson, II.
Of Dover, DE, and formerly of Smyrna, passed away suddenly at his home on Tuesday June 17, 2008. He was 51.
He was born September 27, 1956, the son of Alice Jane Matthews Bryson and the late George E. Bryson. He was a 1974 graduate of Smyrna High School. While serving as editor of the school paper, he received many awards in writing and journalism. He attended the University of Delaware and Delaware State University where he graduated with a degree in history. While in college, he was a member of Phi Alpha Theta, an honor society for students of history. Gene was employed by the News Journal as a sportswriter from 1979-1997, and served in both the Wilmington and Dover bureaus. Among his assignments were coverage of the 1983 Major League Baseball World Series and Divisional Playoff Series, NASCAR Racing, Delaware State University football, and high school sports throughout Delaware. At various times in his professional career, he covered the Phillies, Orioles, and some NFL games. In 1997-98 Gene collaborated on a project with photographer Kevin Fleming by writing the text to their book "Dover Downs", a chronicle of the history of the track and a detailed chronology of the events of race week. He joined the staff of the Delaware State News as a night editor in 1999. In recent years, he served as senior editor, leading the newspaper's copy desk, news service team, photographers, and sports team. Gene was known for his headline-writing wit, sharp eye for details, and knowledge of the people, events, and history of Kent County, and unsurpassed knowledge of NASCAR racing. In 1999, he was given the Smyrna-Clayton Heritage Association Award for Journalistic Talent. In 2002, the Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Press Association honored Gene with a "Best in Show" award in the headline category of the newspaper competition. His headline was selected best overall, too, meaning it was the best of all winners in the six divisions, which included metropolitan newspapers in Maryland, Delaware, and Washington, D.C. That same year, he was among a group that won second place for a tribute section to Dale Earnhardt. This year, he won two awards in the MDDC contest, sharing a first place award for informational graphic for the preview pages for the NCAA Division I-AA football championship game between the University of Delaware and Appalachian State. He also earned a second-place award in the headline division. He greatly enjoyed sports, history, music, and most especially his swimming pool.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a brother and his wife, Matthew R. "Rick" and Carol L. Bryson, of Smyrna; and his beloved niece and nephew, Sarah E. Bryson, and Matthew R. Bryson Jr., both of Smyrna.
Services will be held 11 am, Saturday June 21, at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call Friday evening from 7-9 pm. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

Faye Buchanan
Faye Buchanan of Newark, DE passed away on June 18, 2008.
She was a machine operator for Continental Diamond Fiber Co. for 14 years and retired from W.L. Gore after 22 years service.
Faye was preceded in death by her husband John L. Buchanan and her son Richard L. Buchanan. Faye is survived by her son, John Robert Buchanan and his wife Diane of Hockessin; her brother, Everett Evans of Laurel Springs, NC; her daughter in-law, Ann Buchanan and grandson Rusty Buchanan of Cockeysville, MD.
A viewing for Faye will be held on Friday June 20th from 7-9 pm in the MCCRERY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3710 Kirkwood Highway at Duncan Rd. The funeral service will be held on Saturday morning at 11am in the chapel of Gracelawn Memorial Park, Rt. 13 New Castle. Burial will be in the adjoining memorial park.
Vincent William Barone
Age 70, formerly of Rehoboth Beach, DE, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Atlantic Shores Nursing Home, Millsboro, DE following a two year battle with cancer.
He is survived by his mother, Yolanda M. Barone; his sister, Joan Ryan Brohawn, his brother, Howard DeGraw and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 1, at 11 am, at St. Edmond's Catholic Church, King Charles and Laurel Streets, Rehoboth Beach, DE. Entombment will be private at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, DE.
