Donato J. Chickadel

Donato J. "Donny" Chickadel, 50 of Elsmere, went home to the Lord on Saturday, January 5, 2002. He is in heaven and his suffering is over.

Donny was born in Wilmington on October 7, 1951. He was employed as a Reservation Supervisor for the Delaware River & Bay Authority for 26 years. He was an avid cook and baker, and he very much enjoyed spending time with his family & friends, traveling, shopping and his computer. He also had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother, and he hand crafted Rosaries. Donny will always be lovingly remembered for his kindness and generosity.

He was predeceased by his father, Samuel P. Chickadel. Donny is survived by his wife of 20 years, Evelyn (Triano) Chickadel; his mother and step-father, Rita & Lewis Delle Donne of Wilm.; his brother & sister-in-law, Sam & Carol Chickadel of Wilm.; his sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Carolyn & Michael Rhodes of Newark; his step-sisters, Sally Connor & Rose Gravner of Wilm. and Patricia Curry of Newark; several nieces & nephews; and his faithful dogs, Maude & Snookers.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, 9th & DuPont Sts. on Thursday morning, January 10 at 11 am. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Family & friends may call at the CHARLES P. ARCARO FUNERAL HOME, 2309 Lancaster Ave. (opp. Cathedral Cem.) on Thursday morning from 9-10:30 am.

Memorial donations in Donny's name may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 100 W. 10th St., Wilm., DE 19801.

Robert J. Lieberman

Age 47, of Dover, DE, died on September 27, 1999 at his home, after a 14-month battle with cancer.

His wife of 20 years, Judy, and 4 children, Sarah, Andrew, Ruth and Philip, all survive him at home. Mr. Lieberman was born and raised in Wilmington, DE by Carl and Rhoda Lieberman, who preceded him in death. He is survived by Bernice Lieberman of Newark, DE, Debbie Auerbach and her son of Philadelphia, PA and David Lieberman of Seattle, WA.

Mr. Lieberman's brother and sisters request contributions to the Robert Lieberman Memorial Fund, c/o The Wilmington Trust Company, at any branch.

James M. Montebell "Monte"

Age 60 of Wilmington, DE passed away Sunday, July 4, 2004.

Jim was born in Wilmington, DE September 29, 1943, son of Joseph Montebell and the late Anna Minutola Monte-bell.

He graduated from Salesianum in 1961 and the University of North Dakota in 1966.

Him was a teacher and coach at Thomas McKean High School for 38 years.

He was named Junior Achievement National Teacher of the Year in 2002.

The loves of his life were his family, McKean and all the students, past and present.

Jim is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kathy (Brock); his father, Joseph; his son, Joe of Middletown; his daughter, Susan of Wilmington; and his 2 grandsons, Joey and Mikey.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday, July 10, 2004, at 10 am at Holy Angels Church, 82 Possum Park Rd., Newark.

Friends may call from 5-8 pm on Friday, July 9, 2004, at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Rd., Pike Creek.

Interment will be held privately in All Saints Cemetery.

A reception will follow the funeral service at the Thomas McKean High School, 301 McKennans Church Rd. from 12:30-3 pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Junior Achievement of Delaware, Jim Montebell Scholarship Fund, 522 S. Walnut St., Wilmington, DE 19801.

Joanne E. Baker

Age 53, of Wilmington, DE., passed away on Tuesday July 27, 2004 in Christiana Hospital. Joanne was a purchasing agent with the Christiana Medical Center for 35 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John T. and June I. (Feese) Baker. Joanne is survived by her sisters, Barbara L. Benoit and her husband Rick of Hillsborough, N.J., and Carol A. Cubeta of Wilm., nephew and niece, Clay and Maggie Benoit, cousins, Thomas Carney, Susan Crane, and Louis George, her adopted family, Akhtar Gilani, Zia and Shahida Khan and their children, Omar, Ahmed, and Amber. Her beloved friend, Javed Gilani, and her aunt, Bessie Buckalew.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Saturday July 31, 2004 at 11:00 AM at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3710 Kirkwood Highway at Duncan Road where friends may call after 10:00 AM. Friends may also call on Friday evening from 6-8 PM. Interment will be private. Contributions may be made to the S.P.C.A., P.O. Box 6067, Stanton, DE, 19804.

Raymond E. Martin, Jr.

Raymond E. Martin Jr., 60, of Wilmington, DE, passed on Thursday, January 20, 2005 after a short illness while visiting relatives in western PA.

Mr. Martin was an art teacher for 30 years in the public school system, most of which was spent at Thomas McKean High School, where he also served as head baseball coach and assistant football coach through the late 1960's and 1970's. In his long career as an instructor, Mr. Martin also taught one year each at John Dickinson High School and Caravel Academy. He worked for several years as principal of the Red Clay Consolidated School District's nighttime Adult Continuing Education Program at A.I. DuPont High School.

Upon retiring from McKean in 1996, Mr. Martin worked in carpentry and home restoration both on the Granogue estate in Greenville, DE and alongside his youngest son, an independent contractor in New Castle County.

He was an avid and active supporter of the mid Atlantic's original, independent music scene.

His warm, sincere and accommodating manner made Mr. Martin a dearly treasured teacher, friend and role model to all who were fortunate enough to make his acquaintance.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Betty Martin, of Wilmington; his son, Christopher Martin and daughter-in-law, Jacqueline, of Carlisle, PA; his son, Michael Martin and daughter-in-law, Michelle, of Newark, DE; his mother, Mildred Martin, of Elsmere; his 3 brothers, Craig, Geoff, and Scott Martin; 2 grandchildren, Samantha and Carter Martin; and 12 nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Friends may call at the Mealey Funeral Home, Milltown and Limestone Roads, on Saturday, January 29 between the hours of 2 and 4 pm, with a memorial service immediately to follow. Burial will be private.

George C. Brown

Age 79 of Coopers Farm, husband, father, grandfather, educator and friend, born August 9, 1926, went home to be with the Lord December 7, 2005. He passed peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief battle with cancer.

He served in the US Army 729 A.T.B. in Okinawa during WWII. After the war, he became a captain in the Army Reserve. George graduated from the University of Delaware in 1950 with a master degree in mathematics. He taught in the Red Clay School District for 32 years as a high school math teacher. He was voted Teacher of the Year in 1982. He coached wrestling at Conrad and Dickinson High Schools. Teaching was his life, whether in the classroom, at his church or at home. It was not uncommon to see students from 40 years ago give him a hug, words of thanks and telling him about the positive influence he had on their lives. A member of Cedars United Methodist Church since 1940, he served as lay minister of visitation, a Sunday School teacher, a youth and Boy Scout leader, choir member, a member of the United Methodist Men and "Executive Assistant" to God himself. He loved hiking at Hawk Mountain, camping at Camp PeCoMeth and traveling the US, sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and at Lewes Beach, spending time with his grandchildren, and raising homing pigeons. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

George was predeceased by his parents, James C. Brown and Helen Brown Underwood; his sister, Ruth Hitch; and grandson, Matthew Fritz. Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Betty Jane Hanby Brown; 5 daughters and a son and their spouses, Debbie and John Floyd, Larry and Ellen Brown, Cindy Fritz, Beverly and Joe Kasowski, Nancy and Bill Steen and Betty and Chris DeAscanis; grandchildren, John, Kimberly, Zachary, Coleman, Ashley, Jennifer, Joey, Sande, Stephanie, C.J., Nicole, Ryan and Andrew; and 2 great grandsons, Joey and Justin. Other survivors include his siblings, Raymond and Carlton Brown, Jean Hanson and Joan Giroud; along with many nieces, nephews and good friends.

Special thanks to the Mill Creek Fire Co. for their services and to Delaware Hospice for their caring support.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 12, 2005, at 10 am at the MCCRERY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy & Duncan Road, where family and friends may call on Sunday, December 11, from 3-7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Cedars U.M. Church Building Fund, Harrison and Maple Aves., The Cedars, Wilmington, DE 19808; or to Camp PeCoMeth, 136 Bookers Wharf Rd. Centreville, MD 21617-9434.

Dean Bloodsworth

Age 54 of Earleville, MD was called home to our Lord on Tuesday, January 3, 2005.

Mr. Bloodsworth was born on April 1, 1951, son of the late Garland Dane and Sara Solloway Bloodsworth. He was employed by Pocket Change America for 17 years and for the past year Cox Auto Group. He was a member of St. Paul's UM Church and past member of Trinity UM Church, Chesapeake City, where he taught Sunday school. He also coached girls softball in Chesapeake City. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing, hunting, gardening and playing with his grandchildren. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Wade Barrett Bloodsworth. Mr. Bloodsworth is survived by his wife of 29 years, Mary Desper Bloodsworth; 3 children, Jacqueline Bell and her husband, Samuel, of Chesapeake City, MD, Dean Wyeth Bloodsworth and his wife, Amy, and Jenna Kivlin and her husband, Steve, all of Earleville, MD; a brother David Bloodsworth and a sister Anna Elliott, both of Laurel, DE; 5 grandchildren, Christiana, Joseph and Bryan Bell, Devon Bloodsworth and Briana Dean Kivlin; and lifelong friend and brother-in-law, Joe Desper.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 7, at 12 noon at St. Paul's UM Church, 1687 Crystal Beach Rd., Earleville, where friends may call after 11 am. Burial in Bethel Cemetery, Chesapeake City.

Memorials may be offered to St. Paul's UM Church; or Chesapeake City Lions Club c/o the GALENA FUNERAL HOME OF STEPHEN L. SCHAECH, 118 W. Cross St., Galena, MD 21635.
