Anne M. Ayrey,
Supreme Court secretary
Anne M. Ayrey, 90, of Dover, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005, in Silver Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dover.
Mrs. Ayrey was born in Cumberland, Md., daughter of the late Leo and May Ragland Cavanaugh.
She was raised in Washington, D.C., and had lived in Pittsburgh and then New Jersey, prior to moving to Dover in 1967.
While in Washington, she had been employed with the Warner Bros. Theaters.
After her move to Dover, she served as the secretary to the clerk of the Delaware Supreme Court until her retirement in 1988.
In her quieter moments, she enjoyed gardening and cooking.
She had been a faithful member of Holy Cross Church in Dover and had served as a volunteer with the Family Court system.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond C. Ayrey, in 1984.
She is survived by two sons, Robert DeMello of Boynton Beach, Fla. and William Ayrey of Lewes; a daughter, Elizabeth Anne Gasparre of Safety Harbor, Fla.; two stepsons, Raymond Ayrey Jr. of Palm Coast, Fla. and Ronald Ayrey of New York, N.Y.; two sisters, Helen Thayer of Catonsville, Md. and Frances McHugh of Alexandria, Va.; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services were held in Holy Cross Church, Dover, with burial in the Holy Cross cemetery.

Dorothy Mae Bowers,
devoted mother, grandmother
Dorothy Mae Bowers, 85, of Lewes, and formerly of Landers Park in New Castle, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, in Beebe Medical Center.
Mrs. Bowers was born April 27, 1919, in Morrisville, Pa., the daughter of the late Thomas and Edna Carlen Sauer.
She was a talented and dedicated homemaker and devoted her life to caring for her beloved family. She delighted in visiting the beach throughout her life – as a girl growing up on the New Jersey shore, on vacations with her husband in Florida and shopping on the boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach with her younger daughter, Lynn.
She created a legacy of kindness and love for her husband, daughters and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her lively spirit, her loving manner and the warmth and graciousness with which she treated all those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Mrs. Bowers was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a former member of Minquadale United Methodist Church, both in New Castle.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Stanford Bowers, in 1988.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, C. Joan “Joanie” Lamey of Tamarac, Fla. and Carolyn A. “Lynn” and Paul Alexander of Lewes; six grandchildren, Stanford Lamey and his wife Carol, and Karen Evans, all of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Janet Lamey of Springville, Ala., Donald Johnson and his wife Paula of New Castle, Scott Lamey and his wife, Lisa of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and Lisa Church of Elsmere; 10 great-grandchildren, J.R., Brandi, Ty, Beth, J.S., Wesley, Eric, Lindsay, Katrina and Nazareth; and three great-great-grandchildren, Anthony, Mikeya and Jayla.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 15, in the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park, 2220 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle.
Mrs. Bowers had great fondness for the beauty of flowers. The family will greatly appreciate floral tributes in her memory.
The Rev. John Roland Hickson,

The Rev. John Roland Hickson, 89, of Addison, Pa., and formerly of Easton, Md., died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, in Markleysburg, Pa., after a long illness.
Rev. Hickson was born Feb. 5, 1916 in Easton, Md., son of the late Charles B. and Laura Agnes Hickson.
He served 43 years in the ministry. He retired from the Peninsula Delaware Conference of the United Methodist Church, Dover District, White’s Chapel Charge, Lewes, in 1981.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Blanche Keller Hickson; two brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred “Patty” Hickson; a son, Jay of Atlanta, Ga.; three daughters, Bonnie Wilson of Dallas, Texas, Eileen Mehnert of Friendswood, Texas and Joan Jefferson of Broadkill Beach; a sister, Catherine Schwaninger of Trappe, Md.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, in the Addison United Methodist Church, Addison. Burial will follow in Somerset County Memorial Park, Somerset.

Harriet Jane “Rachel” Grant,
psychiatric nurse
Harriet Jane “Rachel” Grant, 59, of Milford, passed away Friday, Feb. 11, 2005 at home, surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born in Norfolk, Va., the daughter of the late Curtis Edward Simpler and Sarah Ann (Shockley) Simpler. She was a 1964 graduate of Great Bridge High School in Chesapeake, Va. and received her nursing degree in 1984 from Delaware Technical and Community College, Georgetown. She was a psychiatric nurse for most of her career and spent 21 years helping people find a better way of life through her patience and understanding. She was a devout Christian and worked primarily at The Detox Center in Ellendale assisting also at Casa San Francisco in Milton and The Home of the Brave in Milford before becoming disabled and retiring in 2002.
She and her husband of 39 years, Ulysses Samuel Grant, also owned and operated the Mason-Dixon Honey Farm and Peach Orchard near Milford from 1976 until 1995. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, attending Navy reunions with her husband and his shipmates, and going on cruises in the Caribbean. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed cooking for family gatherings, playing with her grandchildren, and decorating her home. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Victory chapter, Dover, and the Millwood Community Center, Milford . She loved watching birds and wildlife near her home.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Raymond Simple.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son and his girlfriend, David S. Grant and Mary E. Walls of Milford; three daughters and their husbands, Rachel F. and Lew A. Klensch of Milford, Yolonda A. and Rodney L. Messick of Milford, Anna Marie and William J. McBane III of Milford; two sisters, Linda Ann Hodgson and her husband, Hale of Knotts Island, N.C., and Sarah Mary “Babe” Ellasces of Woodland, Calif.; and 4 grandchildren, Bryant A. Klensch, Joshua R. Messick John S. and Laura E. McBane and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 15, at the Milford Church of God, 500 N. Walnut St. Milford. Interment will be in Milford Community cemetery , Milford.

Arthur Benedict Pierce Sr.,

Arthur Benedict Pierce Sr., 64, of Lewes, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at home.
Mr. Pierce was born in Wilmington, the son of the late Leo Joseph Pierce and Dorthea Marie Elder Pierce.
He was a barber his entire life and most recently worked at the Peddlers Village Barbershop near Lewes for many years, retiring on disability in 2003. He loved fishing and was an avid collector of anything as well as a frequent visitor to all the local flea markets and sales.
He is survived by two brothers, Andrew Pierce Sr. and Robert Pierce; two sisters, Dorothea Macholl and Ruth Degal; two sons, Arthur Pierce Jr. and Kurt Pierce; a daughter, Donna Loop, six grandchildren; 10 nieces and 12 nephews.
Services and burial will be private.

Mary E. Hoyer, 96, of Milford, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, in Bayhealth Medical Center at Milford Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Hoyer was born in Athlone, Ireland, the daughter of the late Michael and Elizabeth (McDonnell) Mannion and was very proud of her Irish heritage. She was a homemaker and a baby sitter for many prominent Milford families. Mrs. Hoyer immigrated to the United States from Ireland in 1928 and became a citizen in 1933. She was a member of St. John the Apostle Catholic Church for 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George James Hoyer in 1974, her grandson, Greg Hoyer and six brothers.
She is survived by three sons, George A. Hoyer and his wife, Louise of Lincoln, Michael W. Hoyer of Milford, and Thomas K. Hoyer and his wife, Sandra of Dover; three daughters, Evelyn Verona of San Antonio, Texas, Mary T. Gervan and her husband Jim of Long Neck, and Elizabeth Posadas and her husband John of Milford ; a sister, Sr. Michael Marie Mannion of Philadelphia, Pa.; six grandchildren, George Arthur Hoyer and Glenn Hoyer of Lincoln, Russell Wintjen of Wyoming, Jeffrey Wintjen of Quantico, Md., Brad Posadas of Milford, and Carole Nichols of Dover; and five great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2005 in St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Seabury Avenue and School Place, Milford. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Lofland Funeral Home, 102 Lakeview Avenue, Milford, where prayers will be offered at 7 p.m. Interment will be in Milford Community cemetery , Milford.

Patricia A. Corrigan,

Patricia A. Corrigan, 70, of Lewes, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005.
Miss Corrigan was born Nov. 8, 1934 in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Owen B. and Grace Foxwell Corrigan.
Miss Corrigan was an alumnus of the University of Delaware. She started her career in advertising at local radio stations in Wilmington and Baltimore. Then, changing career paths with a move to Florida, she became a reporter for the local Daytona Beach newspaper. Returning to this area, she was employed by United Way of Philadelphia. Realizing her knack for fundraising, she joined the John Rich Agency in Philadelphia and became the first female professional fundraiser in the country. Organizing campaigns for hospitals was her special endeavor. She retired from the Citi Group Corp.
She will be remembered by her family and friends for her love of animals all over the world. She was also an avid gardener and later in her life she became fond of the martial arts, achieving the level of black belt in Tang Soo Do when she was almost 60 years old.
She is survived by her sister, Jean Clare Baker and her husband James of Newark; her niece, Lisa A. Simpson of Seaford; her nephew, William L. Bartlett Jr.; two great-nieces, Danyle E. Bartlett and Breanna L. Bartlett; a great-nephew, Dylan E. Bartlett; and a great-great-nephew, Austin J. Helsel, all of Newark.

Camille Granato Barrow,

Camille Granato Barrow, 44, of Magnolia, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at home, with her family in attendance.
Mrs. Barrow was born in Weymouth, Mass., daughter of Mary Jane Granato of Dover and the late Carmello Granato.
She was a 1977 graduate of Dover High School and in 1996, graduated from Troy State University of Alabama.
She had served as manager of business services at Comcast Cable for eight years until her illness.
Mrs. Barrow had been a loving wife and dedicated mother who enjoyed gardening and landscape design. She also enjoyed interior decorating, traveling and antique shopping.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Jane Granato of Dover; her husband, Michael W. Barrow of Magnolia; a son, Matthew Barrow of the family home; a brother, William Gamuciello of Rehoboth Beach; five sisters, Linda Castle of Weymouth, Joanne Baker of Pittsville, Md., Mary Jane Mitchell of Snow Hill, Md. Diane Mac Dougall of Dover and Rosemarie Minner of Wyoming; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held in Barratt’s Chapel, Frederica, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Everett G. “Chuck” Jugler,
retired millwright
Everett G. “Chuck” Jugler, 89, of Hanover, Pa., died peacefully, Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005.
Mr. Jugler was a millwright for the DuPont Company at the Edgemoor site for more than 30 years before his retirement. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church. He also volunteered for several organizations, including St. Patrick’s cemetery
in Ashland, the Missionary Servants of Christ and the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, particularly at Camp Brisson and at Salesianum School.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marnet McGoldrick Jugler in 1981; and his son, Michael, in 1984.
He is survived by his wife, Leila Long Jugler; three daughters, Marie Hughes of Hockessin, Marie Grezikowsi of Long Neck and Susan Desper of Wilmington; his son, Larry Jugler of Mt. Airy, Md.; his sister, Vada Bradley of New Castle; his brother, Robert, of Rising Sun, Md; his stepson, Donald Lucas of Hanover, Pa.; 19 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Mealey Funeral Home, Wilmington, with burial in St. Patrick’s cemetery
in Ashland.

Georgia Mae Bailey,

Georgie Mae Bailey of Virginia Beach, formerly of Millsboro, Del., died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, in the home of her daughter in Virginia Beach. She was 80.
Mrs. Bailey was born in Accomac, Va., the daughter of the late William H. and Maggie S. Major Thomas.
She retired in 1993 from Vlasic Foods Inc. in Millsboro.
Mrs. Bailey was a member of St. John's Baptist Church, Millsboro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Bailey, in 1973.
She is survived by a daughter, Gloria B. Harris of Virginia Beach; four sons, Charlie Bailey of Bridgeville, Norman Bailey of Milford, Leroy Bailey of Milton, and Tyrone Bailey of Millsboro; three brothers, George Jones of Accomac, William Thomas of Cambridge, Md., and Daniel Thomas of Millsboro; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in St. John's Baptist Church, Mount Joy Road, Millsboro, where friends may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Annie J. Custis will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
