J. Edward Doubet

Age 90, of Bethel Township, PA, formerly of Chester, PA, died February 1, 2007, at home.

Mr. Doubet was a long time jeweler serving as President of Carl A. Doubet, Inc..

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, the former Mae (Burk) Doubet; sons, J. Edward Doubet, Jr. (Juli), of Mason, OH, Daniel J. Doubet (Barbara), of Chester Heights, PA, Dennis J. Doubet (Dawn), of Wilmington, DE, Michael C. Doubet (Valery), of Wilmington, DE; daughters, Diane Kratsa (Gus), of Wawa, PA, Mary Hickey (Michael), of Bethel Township, PA, Elaine Burke, of Bethel Township, PA; 19 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral mass will be on Tuesday, February 6, at 10 am, in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 430 Valleybrook Rd., Chester Heights, PA. Interment in St. Thomas the Apostle cemetery. Friends may call at the CARR FUNERAL HOME, 935 S. Providence, Road (Rt. 320), Wallingford, PA, on Monday, February 5, from 6-8 pm.

Contributions to Vitas Hospice, 1740 Walton, Rd., Blue Bell, PA 19433, would be appreciated.

Mark Fortin

Age 43, died suddenly at home on Wednesday, February 21, 2007.

A graduate of Archmere Academy and an attendee of the University of Delaware, Mark had a successful career in restaurant management at local establishments including Tiffin and Kahunaville in Wilmington, DE. Most recently, Mark was the creator, owner, and operator of the "I Love It" stores in Chadds Ford and West Chester, Pennsylvania. He will be remembered as the man who could make anyone laugh and the memories he created will be forever loved and cherished by his family and friends. His charismatic personality and sense of humor inspired and touched all of those who witnessed it.

Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Jamie Haldas Fortin and his dearly loved children, Whitney Marie and Conrad Haldas Fortin. He is also survived by his 2 brothers, Richard and Michael Fortin; mother-in-law, Marie Haldas; and many loving relatives including aunts, uncles, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Conrad Fortin, Austin March, and his father-in-law, Spiros Haldas.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects 4-7 pm on Sunday, February 25, at the CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 26, at 11:30 am at the funeral home. Interment will be private.

Polly R. Bill

11/11/47 - 2/20/07

Polly, age 59, departed this life peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family after a very brief yet courageous battle with cancer.

She was the beloved daughter of Alice Walker Roach, dear sister to Susan Duer and Deborah Lloyd, wonderful mother to daughters, Aliye and Sara Bill, and devoted wife of over 30 years to Dr. Aydin Z. Bill. After receiving a BA degree from the University of Delaware, she continued her education obtaining a MA degree in Psychology from Washington College and a second MA degree from Widener in English. Polly was previously employed by the Department of Mental Health, the Delaware State Hospital, and Psychiatric Emergency Services. She was currently working for the Brandywine School District at Springer Middle School where she taught eighth grade Language Arts. Funny and opened minded, one easily found themself talking for hours with Polly whether it was sitting in front of the fire, on the beach or on the phone. An avid gardener, Polly knew all plants and flowers by name and her artistic nature made for breathtaking gardens. Also an exceptional cook, her home always radiated with the warmth of homemade food prepared with care and detail even down to the presentation of an everyday dinner. She kept her quick wit until the end, never ceasing to amaze those who loved her with her strength, courage and devotion to her family. Polly will be deeply missed by her entire family and her very devoted friends. Polly was predeceased by her father, Walter T. Roach II.

Funeral Services are open to all who wish to attend and will be held on Saturday, February 24, at 3 pm, at MEALEY FUNERAL HOMES, Limestone & Milltown Rds. A private burial will take place the following Tuesday, February 27.

Allaire Crozer duPont

An extremely accomplished sportswoman and a great philanthropist, died at her home, Woodstock Farm, Chesapeake City, MD, on Friday, January 6, 2006, at age 92.

She excelled in everything that she did in a long and rewarding life that also had its share of tragedies. In her youth, she was an internationally renowned sportswoman who achieved success in a variety of fields. She was a National Champion glider pilot, and an Olympic Women's Trap shooter. She was also an avid foxhunter and a senior tennis champion. She was the 2004 Thoroughbred Woman of the Year and won the 2005 Marylander of Distinction Award. Allaire C. duPont touched the lives of thousands of people all over the world. Woodstock Farm, her well-known thoroughbred breeding and racing operation produced many champions, but none to rival the famous Kelso who was born to her mare, Maid of Flight and went on to be named Horse of the Year a record 5 times! In 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963 and 1964. She was a great animal lover. Woodstock Farm was home to many dogs, cats and other animals, as well as horses. The plight of abandoned and ill treated animals touched her deeply and she was a passionate champion on their behalf. Among the charities that she actively supported with time and talent were, Paws for Life, Mid-Atlantic Horse Rescue, Thoroughbred Charities of America, Greener Pastures and the Union Hospital. Her needlework was as admired as her sports accomplishments. She was also instrumental in the restoration of Chesapeake City, MD, on the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal and fought to establish open space preservation in the surrounding area. She was a member of The Jockey Club, Thoroughbred Owners & Breeders Association and an honorary member of the Board of Directors of the Union Hospital. She was also a member of St. Augustine Church.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Chichester duPont, in 1943; a son, Richard C. duPont, Jr., in 1986; a grandson, Richard C. duPont, III in 1988; a granddaughter, Beale Wright Morris, in 2005; and her parents, Samuel A. and Helena Rutgers Crozer. She is survived by a daughter, Helena Allaire duPont Wright of Chesapeake City, MD; 3 grandchildren, Lucy Wright Dunne, Virginia duPont Suarez and Allaire duPont Hummel; and 6 great grandchildren, Richard Ashton duPont, Abigail Allaire Hummel, Christopher Kalert Hummel, Javier Kip Suarez, Wright Anthony Morris and Beale Crozer Dunne.

Services will be private.

Jack Reed Kelly, Jr.

Age 75, of Hockessin, DE passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2007, at home surrounded by his family, after a long illness.

Mr. Kelly medically retired in 1971, from the DuPont Co. Experimental Station as a glass blower. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Hockessin Friends Meeting.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jane B. Kelly: his son, Jack Reed Kelly, III, and his wife, Nancy B., of Newark, DE: his daughter, Elizabeth R. Kelly-Johnson, and her husband, Michael S., of Newark, DE: his sister, Barbara K. Paul, of Wilmington, DE: his grandchildren, David Kelly, Leah Kelly, Sarah Johnson, and Jennifer Johnson.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service at the DOHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek, on Friday, March 30, at 11 am, where friends may call after 10:30 am. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 5610 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808.

Frances Hackett Adams

Age 99, formerly Wilmington, DE, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2007, at the Methodist Manor House in Seaford, DE.

Frances was the daughter of the late, Harry and Sinah (Spicer) Hackett. She was an alumnus of Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, VA. Frances will be remembered by her friends and family as someone who loved music. While at the Manor House, she played the piano for church services and special functions.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul, in 1976 and survived by a cousin, James O. Spicer, of Salisbury, MD; and several cousins from the next generation.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 18 at 7 pm, at MCCRERY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 3924 Concord Pike, Talleyville, Wilmington. Interment will be private. A memorial service will also be held at the Methodist Manor House, 1001 Middleford Rd., Seaford, DE, on May 22, at 2:30 pm.

Charles C. Baker

Age 70, of Bridgeville Rd, Georgetown, DE, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2007.

Mr. Baker was born in Millsboro, DE, the son of the late Ollie and Mary (Cooper) Baker. Mr. Baker worked as a Supervisor for Dupont. Co. for 35 years retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Marvel Museum Historical Society. He enjoyed the beach, traveling and antiques, auction and yard sales.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother Ollie Baker Jr. He is survived by his wife, Jane Baker ; 3 children, Kim Hudson and her husband, John, of Irmo, SC, Karen Willey and her husband, Scott, of Millsboro, DE, Kathy Kay and her husband, Chris, of Rehoboth, DE; 3 sisters, Dot Green, of Georgetown, DE, Doris Stauffer and her husband, Emerson, of Milton, DE, Helen Hurst, of Ellendale DE; 1 sister-in-law, Carolyn Swett and her husband, Tom, of Unionville,PA; 6 grandchildren, Daniel Hudson, Sarah Hudson, Ben Willey, Jared Kay, Erin Kay, and Colin Kay; several nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 17, at 4 pm, in the Chapel of SHORT FUNERAL SERVICES, 609 E. Market Street, Georgetown, DE, where friends may call form 2-4 pm. Interment will be in Union cemetery, Georgetown, DE.

Edward James Braxton "Bunchie"

Edward James Braxton, affectionately known as "Bunchie", son of the late Lucille Moore, was born May 26, 1927 in Atlantic City, NJ. He departed this life, May 10, 2007 at his home in Wilmington, DE. He was the husband of the late Betty J. Braxton, and the life long companion of Marion Rogers, with whom he lived. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted companion, Marion Rogers; children, Donald Simpson (Brenda), of Annapolis, MD, William Booker, Monica McMillan, Edward S. Braxton, Keenan Williams (Michelle), Sherry Loper, Rhonda and Sharon Rogers, and a devoted son who loved his father dearly, Edward Rogers (Denise), all of Wilmington, DE; 28 grandchildren; 50 plus great grand children; and 1 great great grandchild; and a host of other family and friends. He was predeceased by 5 children; Calvin Rogers, Romayne Traylor, Dearadra Braxton, Kevin Rogers and Jane Matthews; 3 grandchildren, Romayne (Ne-Ne) and Monica (Ca-Ca) Braxton, and Edward "Spud" Osborne-Rogers. Funeral 7 pm, Thursday, May 17, at Union Baptist Church 26th and Carter Sts. Viewing from 5-6:45 pm only. Burial at Gracelawn cemetery.

Margaret E. (Hood) Colella "Grams Peg"

Age 92, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at her residence on Saturday, May 12, 2007.

Born in Montclare, PA, Mrs. Colella was the daughter of the late Kennard and Lula (Buck) Hood. During WWII, she worked at the Dravo Shipyard as an electrician. Later, she worked as a sales clerk at Sears for 23 years. She was a former member of St. John the Beloved.

She was predeceased by her husbands, John M. Stark in 1970, and William Colella in 1993; and by her brother, Robert Hood in 1981. She will be missed by her daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Willard F. Minner, of Houston, TX and June and Robert Weldin, of Wilmington, DE; her step-daughter and her husband, Marie and Dick Masiello of Wilmington, DE; 6 grandchildren and their spouses, Patrick and Patti, Charlene and Dean, Robin and Al, Bobby and Carol, Sandy, and Kelly and Bill; and 11 great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 17, at 10:30 am, at St. John the Beloved Church, 907 Milltown Road, Wilmington, where friends may visit after 9:30 am. Interment will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park, New Castle, DE.
