John Charles Trapp

Age 82, of Newark, DE, died Wednesday, December 13, 2006, at Churchmans Village.

Mr. Trapp was a broker on the New York Cotton Exchange and a proud patriot who served his nation at the Battle of the Bulge in World War II. Loved by friends and family, he will be remembered as an outdoorsman, hiker, birder, winter sportsman, lover of nature, Bingo caller and Santa Claus.

John was a dedicated, devoted lifelong partner and caregiver to his wife, Jean, who survives him; along with daughters, Jean Sanchez and husband, José and Barbara Begleiter and husband, Ralph; and sons, John Trapp and wife, Debbie and Jack Trapp; grandfather of 5; and great-grandfather of 4.

Services will be private.

Dr. Joseph R. Tuckosh, Jr.

Age 64, of Hockessin, DE, passed away on December 12, 2006, following an extended battle with cancer.

Joseph was born to Joseph and Julia Tuckosh on February 23, 1942, and was raised in New Windsor, NY, where he attended Newburgh Free Academy. He graduated from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY and then received an MBA from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, NY and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. During this time, as a volunteer, he became the first licensed veterinarian to work at the Philadelphia Zoo. He worked briefly in an animal hospital in PA, and then continued his career in the research field at Astra Zeneca Corporation, in Wilmington. He became Director of Medical Research there and was a specialist in ophthalmology research and other veterinary surgical services for the firm. Following his retirement, he remained active in various fields, including SCUBA diving, and most recently working at A.I. DuPont Children's Hospital in the research center. Besides becoming a professional diving instructor, he was an expert skier, and enjoyed a good game of golf.

Joe is survived by his daughter, Jamie Rae, 16, of Hockessin, DE; his father, Joseph Sr., 90; and his sister, Barbara and her family, all of Laguna Hills, CA; as well as many close friends in the local area including the Beach Playing Hi-Lo-Jack Partners.

An informal memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2006, from 1-3 pm, at CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 7230 Lancaster Pike, Hockessin, DE 19707.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Cancer Society, 92 Read's Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720.

Jeannette B. Voshell

Age 79, of Camden, DE, died Wed., Dec. 13, 2006. Funeral service will be held Mon., Dec. 18, at 1 pm, in the chapel of BERRY SHORT FUNERAL HOME, Main St., Felton. Viewing Sun. night from 6-8 pm and Mon. after 12 noon.

Ida Bland Welch

Age 91, of Harrington, DE, died December 13, 2006, at home.

Ida was born in Quinby, VA to her late parents Frank and Margaret Heiger Bland. Mrs. Welch assisted her husband in owning and operating Welch's Grocery for over 20 years. After the grocery store was sold, Mrs. Welch worked in the Harrington Pharmacy until she was in her 70s. She loved her church, St. Stephens Episcopal Church and was active in the shawl group, where she made countless shawls. She was a voracious reader with varied reading interests. Mrs. Welch was the loving family matriarch who took great care of her family, and will be sorely missed.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Richard C. Seely; and her second husband, Woodrow Wilson Welch; a brother, Milton Bland; and a sister, Margaret Hill. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Richard B. Seely of Harrington, DE, Frank E. Welch and wife, Estar of Lancaster, PA; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Monday, December 18, 2006, at 11 am, at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Harrington. Rev. John Desaulniers will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday evening, December 16, 2006, from 7-9 pm, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington. Interment in Hollywood cemetery, Harrington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 190 Raughley Hill Road, Harrington, DE 19952; or the the Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901.

Josephine W. White

Josephine W. White, age 90, died December 11, 2006, at the Maine Medical Center, with her loving family by her side.

She was born March 27, 1916 in New Brunswick, NJ, a daughter of George and Catherine (Depa) Prukop. She graduated from New Brunswick High School and Drake College in New Brunswick and subsequently pursued a secretarial career in the health-care field. Josephine was married to Willard W. White, Jr., in June of 1940, in Highland Park, NJ. She and her family lived in several eastern states following the career of her husband, finally relocating to Wilmington, DE, the family home for nearly 48 years. She and her husband were longtime members of Concord Presbyterian Church, in Wilmington. She and Willard established residence at Piper Shores in Scarborough, ME, in April, 2002.

Josephine was predeceased by a daughter, Jacquelyn I. White, in May of 2004; and by 3 sisters; and 3 brothers. Surviving are her husband, Willard of Scarborough; 2 sons, Willard W. White, III and his wife, Kathleen R. of Hollis, NH, Jonathan C. White and his wife, Marilyn A. of Cape Elizabeth; 4 grandchildren, Elizabeth A. White of La Jolla, CA, Catherine M. White of Hollis, NH, Brian R. White of St. Louis, MO and Debra L. White of Durham, NC.

Services will be private.

E. Vincent Lee

February 20, 1923 — May 26, 2006

E. Vincent Lee, 83 years old, formerly of north Wilmington, DE, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2006, at Somerford Assisted Living Facility in Newark, DE.

Mr. Lee, son of the late Harry L. and Esther (Hummel) Lee, was born in Langford, MD and graduated from Elkton High School in 1941. After graduation, he worked at the Bellanca Airfield in New Castle, DE making gun turrets for the B-25 airplane. He was drafted in February, 1943 into the United States Army Air Corp in the 15th Air Force, 485th Bomb Group based in Venosa, Italy. He was a tail gunner on a B-24 Liberator and was shot down on July 8, 1944 over Vienna, Austria on his 9th mission. He was taken prisoner by the Hungarians and turned over to the Germans and was a prisoner of war in Stalag Luft IV. He remained in Stalag Luft IV until February of 1945 when the Germans evacuated the camp and forced the prisoners to march 600 miles back and forth across the Eastern and Western fronts for over 80 days. He was liberated by the Canadians in May of 1945. Mr. Lee was very proud of his service to his country and shared his experiences with his family and many others. He was able to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC with his grandson in April 2004. After the war, Mr. Lee was employed by the Ralston Purina Company in Edgemoor, DE from 1947 until the plant closed in August of 1972 as a General Foreman in the Mill. He then worked at Delaware Express Company in Elkton, MD as a tractor trailer driver and mechanic until 2000 when he retired at the age of 77. He was a member of the Wilmington Church of the Brethren in Richardson Park since the age of 3. He held various positions through the years serving on the Church Board, playing on the Church Softball and Bowling teams, greeter, church historian, and Deacon Emeritus. He was also a member of the Delaware Ex-Prisoners of War, Chapter #1.

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Nelson L. in 1978 and Franklin H. in 2004. His wife of 41 years, Josephine D. Lee, died in January, 1994. He is survived by 3 daughters, Karen L. Hackett and her husband, A. Kenneth, Jr., of Wilmington, DE, Katherine L. Rominiecki and her husband, Andrew J. of Antioch, IL and Constance L. Kurzeknabe and her husband, Frank J., of Wilmington, DE; 1 brother, Allen K. of Newark, DE; 1 sister, Dorothy L. Wickersham, also of Newark, DE; and 8 grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers of Somerford Assisted Living Facility and Dr. Eugene Glavin and Dr. Martin Gavin for their excellent care of our father.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at the Gracelawn Memorial Park Chapel, 2220 N. Dupont Highway, Wilmington, at 2 pm. A viewing will be held on Monday, May 29, 2006, at the MCCRERY FUNERAL HOME, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE, where you may call from 7-9 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Wilmington Church of the Brethren Memorial Fund, 27 Belmont Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19804; or Heartland Hospice, 261 Chapman Road, Suite 100, Newark, DE 19702.

William Benjamin AUSTIN

William Benjamin Austin Age 4 of 7433 Mountain Laurel Rd., Boonsboro, MD died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at Washington County Hospital.

Born September 13, 1999 in North Little Rock, AR, he was the son of Mark C. and Amy M. Austin.

Will attended the South County Headstart program.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his siblings, Marcus A. Austin and Jessica A. Austin, both at home; maternal grandparents, William and Donna Scott of Boonsboro; paternal grandparents, Mark and Laurie Austin of Rohrersville; maternal great grandfather, William Scott of Gaithersburg; paternal great grandmother, Jean Austin of Wilmington, DE; 2 aunts; 2 uncles; and lots of cousins.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

There will be a funeral service at 10:30 am on Wednesday, July 14, at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, 3346 Gapland Rd., Rohrersville, with Rev. Wendell G. McClellan officiating.

Paula F. Grossi

Ms. Paula F. Grossi, age 45, of Rehoboth Beach, DE, tragically passed away on Friday, January 26, 2007.

Ms. Grossi was born in Wilmington, DE, on March 29, 1961. A graphic artist, she had most recently been employed by Xerox. Paula was a champion of AIDS awareness and research, serving as captain of the Jeffrey Grossi Memorial Team, for the Annual AIDS Walk since 1995. She also served as treasurer of the Stable Farm Home Association. Above all, Paula was a loving and devoted mother who cherished her children dearly.

Ms. Grossi is survived by her parents, Francis J. Grossi, and his fiancée, Okham, of Rehobeth; & mother, Yvonne (Gregg) Nass, of Wilmington; son, Rocco Grossi, of Rehoboth; daughter, Trishia N. Grossi, of Rehoboth; grandson, Anthony Michael Grossi, of Rehoboth; grandmother, Sara M. Gregg; & a host of extended family. She was predeceased by her brothers, Gary A. Grossi & Jeffrey M. Grossi; step-father, Robert A. Nass; paternal grandparents, Rocco and Julia Grossi; & maternal grandfather, Cecil H. Gregg.

Funeral Service will be held at the CHARLES P. ARCARO FUNERAL HOME, 2309 Lancaster Ave. (opp. Cathedral cemetery), Wilm., on Tues., Jan. 30, at 11 am. Entombment will follow in Cathedral cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home prior to service, from 9-11 am.
