Sally Latina Ray

Age 60, of New Castle, DE, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2007, while reading a mystery novel, one of Sally's favorite pastimes.

She is the daughter of the late Edith Lestardo and Salvatore Latina Sr. Sally graduated from Ursuline Academy in 1964. She worked in sales for the DuPont Company for over 15 years, while also working for the Wilmington Library. She later worked and eventually became manager of Lestardo's Crab House in New Castle, DE, as well as working for the Bernard Family. Sally loved traveling especially taking cruises with her family to almost any destination, as long as it was warm. She bowled for many years at Bowlerama, and also loved to frequent Delaware Park. She enjoyed curling up to good mystery novels, and belonged to Beta Signa Phi Sorority. Sally also spent much of her leisure time playing cards with her family. Sally was known for her selflessness and generosity. She gave of herself to anyone who needed it, particularly her family. She gave until she could not give anymore. She firmly believed, in her loving and caring manor, that "what goes around comes around", and lived her life accordingly with as high a moral standard as could be found.

She is survived by her 2 daughters, Kristen Carroll and her fiancee, Dr. David Maleh, Stacy Sophy and her husband, Mark; and her son, Scott Magdycz and his wife, Rebekah; 3 brothers, Anthony Latina and his fiancee, Mary DiGennaro, Salvatore Latina Jr. and Nicholas Latina and his wife, Deborah. She also leaves behind 6 grandchildren and a 7th due in April; 2 nephews, Salvatore and Nicholas Jr.; and her niece Jill Beth. Sally was preceded in death by her husband Robert "Bobby" Ray who died in 2004.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, February 15, at 11 am, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 9th & Dupont Street. Wilmington, DE. Burial will be private. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, please send a gift of remembrance to St. Jude Hospital for Children, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Betty Jean Adams

On Thursday, February 8, 2007, Betty Jean Adams died.

Born in New Orleans, LA, to the late Thomas and Alice Adams, Betty graduated from the McGhee School and obtained her BA in English from Newcomb College. She was extremely active socially, organizing and hosting many events for her family and her community. She was also an avid reader and worked to obtain an advanced degree in English. In addition, Betty participated in League of Women Voters, scouting, substitute teaching, the hospital volunteer organization known as Pink Ladies, and promoted the arts through sculpture, painting, writing and opera. Grand opera, in particular, proved to be a major vocation in Wilmington, DE, where she was a major catalyst for the reorganization of the Wilmington Opera Society into Opera Delaware. There she devoted many years of service as casting, costumes, and assistant production manager. This endeavor eventually culminated in a role as producer for the operas Traviata and Die Fliedermaus. Betty was also a passionate traveler, the discovery of which began with an extensive trip to postwar Europe in 1948. She frequently returned to Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East with her husband and parents, other family members and friends. She also visited Mexico, Canada, and the Bahamas in intervening years.

She traveled to Israel, as well as Russia and China. The penultimate experience was a trip around-the-world in 1995, in which she visited New Zealand, Australia, and India. Detailed descriptions of her adventures were published weekly in the travel section of the New Orleans newspaper, The Times-Picayune. Finally, she went supersonic on one of the last flights of the transcontinental Concorde. Her family and friends will miss her dearly, and it can truly be said she greatly enriched the lives of everyone with whom she had contact. Her friends knew her as a witty, energetic woman with a strong, albeit dry, sense of humor. Her legacy leaves a large wake of people who have a much greater understanding and tolerance for each other, and the ability to enjoy the many positive aspects of life.

Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Gatewood Wellborn and sons, Thomas Adams Wellborn and Jeffry Clarke Wellborn, their children, Jewelyn Adams, Ary Thomas, Samuel James, Thomas Jefferson, and Katherine Elizabeth Wellborn, and wives, Jewel (Fernandez) and Jennifer (Seeman), respectively.

A memorial service will be held 10 am, Sunday, February 11, at BROWN-WYNNE FUNERAL HOME, 200 S.E. Maynard Road, Cary, NC. Friends and family will gather after the service at her daughter Elizabeth's house in Cary, NC.
