Leona A. Maurino, 63, of Lewes and formerly of Waretown, N.J., passed away at home Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005.
She is survived by her husband, George J. Maurino; two sons, Anthony Maurino and Jason R. Wells; and two grandchildren, Emory R. and Savey Ann Maurino.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 10, at Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church, Route 24, Oak Orchard.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 9, at the chapel of Melson Funeral Services on Long Neck Road. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Route 113, Millsboro.
Madelyn A. Thoroughgood,
cofounder of Thoro-Good Concrete
Madelyn A. Thoroughgood, 84, of Millsboro, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005, in Nanticoke Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Thoroughgood was born in Millsboro, the daughter of the late Frank S. and Mildred Lowe Parker.
She was a cofounder of the Thoro-Good Concrete Co., the Parker Block Co., both in Millsboro, and the Atlantic Hotel in Rehoboth.
She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Millsboro and the church’s United Methodist Women. She was also a Sunday school teacher at the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Thoroughgood in 1997.
She is survived by a daughter, Shirley T. Atkins of Millsboro; three sons, Frank W. and his wife Sara of Dagsboro, Glenn B. and his wife Marie and John A. and his wife Judi, all of Millsboro; a sister, Ruth Brittingham of Millsboro; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 Washington Street, Millsboro, where friends may call one hour before the service. Burial will be in Millsboro cemetery.

Jean E. Beardsley,
retired operator
Jean E. Beardsley, 77 of rural Millsboro, died Friday, Feb. 4, 20005, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
Mrs. Beardsley was a retired switchboard operator for Bell of Pennsylvania and Chichester High School. She was a member of East Gate Presbyterian Church, Millsboro.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Beardsley, in 2003.
She is survived by her son, James E. Beardsley III; a daughter-in-law, Denise Beardsley; two brothers, Daniel and Edgar Price; two sisters, Pearl Correa and Barbara Waggle; four grandchildren, Ashley, Vincent, Nick and Summer.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 8, at East Gate Presbyterian Church, Long Neck Road, Long Neck. Burial will be private.

Herman W. Turner,
heavy equipment operator
Herman W. Turner, 62, of Georgetown, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes, surrounded by his loving family after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
He was a heavy equipment operator all his life, and was last employed by Driftwood Construction of Milton.
He loved spending time with Hazel, his companion for the past several years, and her family, Danny, Christy and Kaitlyn. They went on many trips together and enjoyed Disney World and Hawaii the most. Herman loved motorcycles and Hazel and her family rode with Herman many times.
He is survived by his loving companion, Mary Hazel Stoeckel of Georgetown; and Mary’s son and his family, Danny, Cristy and Kaitlin Stoeckel of Millsboro.
Services and burial were private.

Clara M. Peterson,

Clara M. Peterson, 89, of Arbors at New Castle, and formerly of Jackson Heights, Long Island, N.Y., died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005.
Mrs. Peterson came to Delaware in 2000, to live near her niece, Elaine B. Hudson, and resided at the Villa Belmont Condominiums in Newark until the fall of 2002, when she moved to Arbors of New Castle.
She was employed for more than 42 years with the Chock Full O’ Nuts Corporation and was the company’s first woman store manager. During her career, she worked with Hall of Fame member Jackie Robinson and tennis star Althea Gibson, among other notables. She also had a lifelong interest in the healing arts and felt she had been put on this earth to help others. For many years, she was an active reflexology practitioner.
In addition to her niece, Elaine N. Hudson of New Castle, she is survived by a nephew, Warren S. Anfronak of Burlington, Vt.; a great-nephew, Ransaler B. Hudson and his wife Heather; a great-great-nephew, Bobby of Long Neck; and a great-niece, Alexis C. Hamnett and her husband T. Lane Hamnett of Smithville, Tenn.
Services were private.

Margaret E. Book,
former restaurateur
Margaret E. Book, 87, of Rehoboth Beach, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, in Harbor Healthcare Center, Lewes.
Mrs. Book was born in Cedar Valley Township, Chester County, Pa., daughter of the late Ralph W. and Elizabeth Bergey Emerson.
She had been a resident of Rehoboth Beach since 1949 and managed and owned several restaurants. She retired from National Cash Register in Millsboro.
She was a member of the Rehoboth Rebekah Lodge.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, John Conrad and Robert A. and Linda Book, all of Rehoboth Beach; three grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two brothers, Donald Emerson and Kenneth Emerson; and a sister, Thelma Loftus.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 8, in the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main Street, Parkesburg, Pa., where friends may call one hour earlier. Burial will be in the Upper Octorara Presbyterian cemetery , Parkesburg.

Wilson Wright,
retired mechanic
Wilson Wright, 79, of Greenwood, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford.
Mr. Wright was born in Felton, the son of the late Brian and Stella Carlisle Wright. He was a mechanic for Matthews Motor Co. in Dover.
He was a loving father and grandfather.
Mr. Wright was preceded in death by a son, Robert Wright, in 1997.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Wilson and Betty Wright of Lewes; four daughters, and three sons-in-law, Helen Byerly of Ellendale, Louise and C.B. Coleman of Petersburg, Va., and Betty and Frankie Marvel and Pat and J.R. Freeman, all of Houston; his companion, Dorothy Pedrick; 11 grandchildren; Dawn Willey, Brian Wright, John Wright, Linda Baker, Lisa Johns, Galen Byerly, Lisa Gooden, David Coleman, Jason Coleman, Stacy Marvel and Richard Freeman; and nine great-grandchildren, Paige Wright, Trenton Willey, Carson Wright, Amaya Wright, Kara Moore, Brendan Moore, Tara Byers, Kelly Gooden and Jaden Freeman.
Services were held in Berry-Short Funeral Home, Milford, with burial in Oakley cemetery , Greenwood.
Melville M. Wells Jr.,
retired from DuPont
Melville M. Wells, 90, of Rehoboth Beach, died on Friday, Feb. 4, 2005 at Beebe Medical Center, Lewes.
He was born on January 31, 1915, in Wilmington, son of the late Melville M. Wells, Sr. and Florence (Tatum) Wells.
Mr. Wells had been employed by the DuPont Company for many years as an accountant. After his retirement from DuPont, he. Wells worked at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club and at the Pier Point Marina in Dewey Beach. He was a member of the Rehoboth Beach Lions Club for many years. He greatly enjoyed fishing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve (Welbourne) Wells; a son, William Wells; and a daughter, Joanne Wells.
He is survived by a son, Melville Wells III of Newark; a grandson, Chris Wendler of Rehoboth Beach, with whom he resided; six additional grandchildren;; nine great grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Private arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
Richard ‘Chad’ Clifton,

Richard “Chad” Clifton, 19, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2005, in Ar Ramadi, Iraq.
Lance Cpl. Clifton, USMC, is the son of Richard C. and Terri L. Clifton of Prime Hook.
Chad was a member of the 2nd battalion 5th regiment stationed at Camp Pendleton, Calif.
He graduated from Cape Henlopen High School, Class of 2003 and had been a member of the National Youth Leadership forum on Defense and Diplomacy.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his brother, Ryan C. Clifton; his paternal grandparents, Robert and Phillis Clifton of Milton; and his maternal grandfather, Elmer J. Wilson of Camden. Chad was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Norma Wilson.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 12, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 13, at the funeral home.
A wake will immediately follow the service at the BayCenter at Ruddertowne, Dewey Beach. Interment, with military honors, will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, Feb. 14, at Arlington National cemetery.

Jack S. Salmons,

Jack S. Salmons, 75, of Nassau near Lewes, died at home Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005.
He was born in Lehighton, Pa., the son of the late John and Florence Radel Salmons.
He was a graduate of Rehoboth High School Valley Forge Military Academy and was employed with the Delaware Coast Press, Atlantic Litho and more recently, was a production manager for the Dover Post.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as second lieutenant with the United States Army.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marie Schmierer Salmons; a sister, Shirley Fried; a sister-in-law, Meta Mae West; and several nieces.
Funeral services will be private.
