Shirley A. Hairgrove

Shirley A. Hairgrove of Newark, DE, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2006 at age 69 following an early morning fire at her home. She would have celebrated her 70th birthday on Sunday, October 29th.

Mrs. Hairgrove was born October 29, 1936 in Viola, DE, the daughter of the late Arthur M. and Agnes W. Sipple. She worked part-time as a clerk at Carroll's Sales Co. in Felton, Kent General Hospital and Union Hospital of Elkton. Once her children arrived, she did what she enjoyed most which was being a stay-at-home mother to her children and later a doting grandmother to her grandchildren.

Mrs. Hairgrove graduated from Caesar Rodney High School in 1954. She very much enjoyed traveling with her husband and had the opportunity to visit many states as well as various other parts of the world including England and Hong Kong. Their children and grandchildren accompanied them on many of their travels and she loved the time spent with her grandchildren. For many years, Mrs. Hairgrove and her husband maintained a retirement home in Long Neck and spent many leisurely hours there along the water.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Richard C. Hairgrove Jr. in 1964. She is survived by her husband, Richard C. Hairgrove, Sr. of Newark, whom she married on December 8, 1956, a son, Robert W. Hairgrove and his wife, Susan, of Middletown and a daughter, Barbara S. Harrington and her husband, Jay of Newark; 4 brothers, twins Ronald E. Sipple and his wife, Margaret, of Bridgeville and Donald A. Sipple and his wife, Izetta, of Georgetown, William A. Sipple and his wife, Joyce, of Viola, and Larry R.Sipple and his wife, Connie, of Milford, 1 grandson, Thomas Hairgrove of Middletown and a granddaughter, Alexa Harrington of Newark. She is also survived by her aunt, Dorothy Minner of Camden and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, 2006 in the Pippin Funeral Home, Wyoing, DE, where friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Odd Fellows cemetery, Camden, DE.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in her memory to the Aetna Fire Company, P.O. Box 148, Newark, DE 19715.

Irene N. Hall

Age 81, died peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, November 4, 2006 at Kentmere Nursing Care Center in Wilmington, DE.

Irene was born in Wilmington, DE, on May 19,1925, to the late Scott V. Norris and Bessie Gordon Norris. She grew up in Marshallton, and was a 1943 graduate of Henry C. Conrad High School. She was employed by the DuPont Company, as an executive secretary for almost 40 years. Irene was predeceased by her loving husband of 46 years, William W. Hall, in 1993. Together they planned the building of their home, and were among the first residents of Klair Estates. Irene and Will enjoyed traveling frequently with friends to Florida, Hawaii and Europe, and they were active members of the Mid-County Senior Center.

Irene was also predeceased by her brothers, Scott G. Norris, and Paul E. Norris; and her sister, Helen N. Montgomery. She is survived by her sisters; Alice N. Trimble of Wilmington, and Lois N. Everett of Smyrna; her sisters-in-law; Aleta Hall of Wilmington, and Beatrice Norris of Newark; her lifelong friend, Marion Mason of Wilmington; and numerous nieces and nephews, including William S, Montgomery and his wife Marilyn J. Doto, who cared for her in her later years.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at 11 am, at the McCrery Memorial Chapel, Kirkwood Highway and Duncan Road, where friends may call after 10 am. Interment will follow the service at Silverbrook Memorial Park, Wilmington.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Kentmere Nursing Care Center, for the attentive and compassionate care they provided to Irene during the past 3½ years, and suggests that instead of flowers, contributions be made to: The Employee Appreciation Fund, Kentmere Nursing Care Center, Inc., 1900 Levering Avenue, Wilmington, DE 19806.

Age 84, of Frederica, DE, died Thursday, November 2, 2006. A memorial service of life will be held on Monday, November 13, at 11 am, in the TRADER FUNERAL HOME, 12 Lotus St., Dover, DE. Burial will be private.

William F. Hunter

Age 68, a lifelong resident of Chester, PA, died Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at home.

Born in Chester, PA, to the late Howard and Sarah P. Stevenson Hunter, Mr. Hunter was a graduate of Chester High School. He was employed as a taxi cab driver. He served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam.

He is survived by 2 sons, Donald A. Hunter, of Newark, DE, and Mark Hunter, of Wilmington, DE; also survived by a grandson, Alexander 'AJ' Hunter; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral service 11 am, Tuesday, at the MINSHALL-SHROPSHIRE-BLEYLER FUNERAL HOME, Middletown (Route 352) & Knowlton Rds., Middletown Twp, Media, PA, where friends may call after 10 am. Interment at Lawn Croft cemetery, in Linwood, PA.

Marilyn P. Joswick

Age 50, of North Wilmington, DE, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2006.

Marilyn and her beloved husband of 18 years, David E. Joswick, shared a business together known as MD Properties, Inc. In her leisure time, Marilyn enjoyed horseback riding, swimming, sailing and traveling with her husband.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, David; children Annalyn and Ayla Joswick, parents, Harmel and Joan Peterson; and in-laws, Eugene and Linda Joswick.

The funeral service and burial will be private.

Rita (McAlaren) Kelley

Age 92, of Wilmington, DE passed away peacefully on Friday, November 3, 2006 at Rockland Place.

Born on May 19, 1914 in Wildwood, NJ, Mrs. Kelley was the daughter of the late Frank and Kathryn (Diamond) McAlarnen. A graduate of Wildwood High School and Chestnut Hill College, she worked as a dietitian at Girard College for 15 years. Mrs. Kelley was a member of the Junior Board of St. Francis Hospital and volunteered in their gift shop. She was also a longtime parishioner of Christ Our King Church. She was predeceased by her husband William in 1964, and by her brothers Bud in 1970 and Raymond in 2002.

She is survived by her son, Michael and his wife, Yvonne Kelley of West Chester, PA; her sister, Kathleen McAlarnen of Hockessin; her grandson, Timothy, her sister-in-law Rita McAlarnen of North Cape May, NJ and Stuart, FL, and many nieces and nephews and their families.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Rockland Place and Compassionate Care Hospice of Delaware for the loving care and support given to them and to Rita Kelley.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 7th between 5-7 PM at Mealey Funeral Home, Limestone and Milltown Road, Wilmington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 11 AM at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Concord Pike and Sharpley Road. Interment will follow in Cathedral Cemeter y, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Rita's memory may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 5610 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington, DE 19808.

William Thomas Leonard

Age 68 of Millsboro, DE died Thursday, November 3, 2006. Services November 8, 2006 12 PM, at Millsboro Seventh Day Adventist Church, Cordrey Rd, Millsboro, DE. Arr by Watson Funeral Home.

Willard McCabe "Mac"

Age 91 passed away on Friday, November 3, 2006 at Martin Memorial Medical Center. Stuart.

Born in Dagsboro, DE, Willard has been a resident of Jensen Beach, FL for the past 35 years, coming from Newark, DE. Willard served in the United States Army, during WWII and was an Honor Graduate of the Pontiac Ordinance Section. Prior to retirement. Willard was an artillery inspector for the United States Government, in Philadelphia, PA and Huntsville, AL. He was a private pilot and photographer. He was also the 1st Eagle Scout of Troop 89 of Millsboro, DE, and was very involved with Troop 811 in Jensen Beach, FL as well as a charter member. He was a life member of the American Legion, past commander of Post 22, Delaware and Post 126, FL, where he served as chaplain. Willard was an honorary life member of 40/8 where he served as Grand de GARE du, FL, from 1989-1990. He was a life member of the DAV.

Survivors include his son, Terry L. McCabe (Sharon), of Jensen Beach, FL, 2 daughters, Susan L. Brown (Ronald), of Cordova, TN and Janet M. Russell (Donald), of Wilmington, DE, 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Willard was predeceased by his wife of 55 years Virginia C. McCabe and son Barry W. McCabe.

Services were private.

Memorial Contributions may be made to 40/8 Nurses Training Voiture 334 c/o American Legion Post 40, 810 S. US Highway 1, Fort Pierce, FL 34982.

Anne C. Mockbee

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Anne C Mockbee, age 83, of Lewes, DE, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 3, 2006, at Westminster Village in Dover, DE, where she had been residing since January 2006.

Born April 10, 1923, Anne was the 2nd of 6 children, of the late Gennaro and Florence Baccari of Brooklyn, NY. She was married to Clarence Mockbee, who predeceased her in 1992, and had 5 children. In addition to working outside of the home, she was a devoted mother, wife and homemaker. She resided on Long Island, NY, Seaford, DE and West Chester, PA, before retiring to Lewes, DE in 1985. After retirement, Anne volunteered her time at the Lewes Senior Center, and attended Mary Mother of Peace Catholic Church in Oak Orchard. She will be remembered for her outgoing personality, vivaciousness and enthusiasm for life. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, reading, knitting, calligraphy and cooking-especially for her family. She had a flare for creative interpretation of scrabble rules and enjoyed walking with her best companion Elmo the dog. Anne touched many lives and was loved by all who knew her. Our mother was the strength of our family; she was always a part of our lives and made sure she was always there for each of us. We love you and will miss you, Mom.

She is survived by her son, Stephen M Mockbee and his wife, Maria, their children, Geoffrey, Michelle, Teddy and Matthew Kohler of Chadds Ford, PA; her daughters, Joan Murray and her companion, Gordon Grimes of Baltimore, MD, and her son David Murray, Vickie Buckles and her husband, Larry of Dover, DE, Denise Mockbee of Denver, CO, and Kim Faucette and her husband, Leo and their daughter, Gabrielle of Wilmington, DE. She is survived also by 2 brothers Charles and John; and predeceased by brother Hugo; and sisters Olga and Sylvi; her grandson, Michael Kohler; and her good friend John Maruskin. She will be missed by all of her friends at the Lewes Senior Center and in Angola By The Bay.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
