Diane Kefauver Thompson "Gammers"

Diane Kefauver Thompson, of Chadds Ford, PA, died on Saturday, August 5, 2006, in a drowning accident in Virginia Beach, VA.

Diane was born September 14, 1938 in New London, CT, daughter of the late Mary and Admiral Russell Kefauver. She had a lifelong involvement with the US Navy as her father, her first husband, Captain James McKinney, and her husband of 33 years, Captain Alton (Butch) Thompson, all were career officers in the US Navy. Her father made 12 submarine war patrols in the Pacific during WWII; her husband, James McKinney, served for over 20 years in surface ships; and during a 25-year career, her husband, Alton Thompson, served on 6 nuclear powered submarines, including command of the USS Puffer and USS Ohio. Her son, Commander Bradley McKinney, currently has command of an explosive ordnance demolition unit in Norfolk, VA, and will deploy to Iraq for a 2nd time in the near future. Son, Commander Gregory Thompson, served in the Supply Corps and son, Michael McKinney, served as an interior communications technician. Diane was energetic, vibrant, friendly and caring. She provided assistance to anyone in need and volunteered her time and efforts for many causes. She served as president of the Wives' Club at the naval base in Charleston, SC. During her tenure, she oversaw the planning, construction and initial operation of a children's daycare center. She also served as the president of the Submarine Officers Wives' Club in Pearl Harbor, HI. Locally, she was an active member of the Greenville Country Club. Diane was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Alton Thompson; 4 sons, Bradley and Michael McKinney and Gregory and Taylor Thompson; and 6 grandchildren, Alexander and Lauren, Diane and Michael McKinney, and Gregory and Sammy Thompson. A private memorial service was held in Virginia Beach, VA. Diane will be sorely missed by her family and many friends.

Services were held August 7 at the HOLLOMON-BROWN FUNERAL HOME, 1264 Great Neck Rd., N., Virginia Beach, VA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Diane's memory to the American Cancer Society at either 1615 West Chester Pike, Suite 102, West Chester, PA 19382, or at 92 Reads Way, Suite 205, New Castle, DE 19720; or to your favorite charity.

James N. Warder "Jamie"

Age 51, of Trainer, PA died August 20, 2006 in Beebe Medical Center in DE.

A lifelong resident of Trainer, he was born in Chester to the late James and Bertha (Myers) Warder. He was a graduate of Chichester High School. Jamie worked for The Chester Jensen Company as an operator for the past 32 years. He enjoyed boating, fishing also well know for his carpentry work.

Husband of Peggy Ann (Zacco) Warder. Beloved father of Carly Warder of Wilmington, DE Annetta Bartolomeo of Prospect Park, John Bartolomeo of Ridley Park, Christopher Bartolomeo of Swedesboro, NJ, Anthony Bartolomeo of Trainer, PA Danielle Coale of Aston and Katielyn Dougherty of Trainer; sisters Vicki Dzedzy of Wilmington, DE Donna Marler of Parhurn, NV Sherry Saudargas of Prospect Park, Crystal McLaughlin of Savannah GA; he is also survived by 9 grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service 1:30 PM Monday at the Ward Funeral Home 1459 Market St. Linwood PA where there will be calling after 12:00 Noon. Interment will be private.

Dora Ellen Young

Age 85, of Milford, DE, died August 22, 2006. Viewing 11 am and funeral 1 pm Monday, August 28, at Bethel AME Church, 205 NW 4th St., Milford, DE. Arrangements by MILLER F.S., Millsboro, DE

Catherine M. Adams

Catherine M. Adams, of Denton, MD, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2006, having recently celebrated her 88th birthday.

Born May 9, 1918 in Concord, DE, Mrs. Adams was the daughter of the late Ray and Stella Bramble Plummer. She married Roy R. Adams, of Denton, in 1936. Mrs. Adams was a business partner with her husband in the Adams Feed Store and the Adams and Wright Hardware Store, both in Denton, as well as the Adams Oceanfront Motel, in Dewey Beach, DE. They co-owned the Redwood Lodge and South Winds Motel, in Dewey, and participated in several other ventures throughout MD's eastern shore and DE. Catherine was an active community leader in the PTA,4-H, Grace Methodist Church, and Friends of Martinak State Park. She was an exceptional cook and loved flower and vegetable gardening. She loved her family and friends, and considered Caroline County the "Garden Spot of the World". Mrs. Adams and her husband loved harness racing at Harrington and Dover, co-owning horses, and were often seen "at the track" in the last few years.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Adams is survived by 2 daughters, Ruby Adams, of Rehoboth, DE, and Jane A. Plummer, of Hagerstown, MD; 2 brothers, Joseph Plummer, of Laurel, DE, and Jack Plummer, of Seaford, DE; 1 sister, Mary Lee DeLuca, of Seaford, DE, 2 granddaughters, Jenny L. Plummer-Welker, of Bowie, MD, and Jackie D. Plummer-Sprow, of Genesee, PA; and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 1 son, Roger Lee Adams; and 1 granddaughter, Joanna Rae Plummer.

Friends and family may call from 7-9 pm on Tuesday evening, June 20th, at the MOORE FUNERAL HOME, 12 S. 2nd St., Denton, MD, where the funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, June 21st. Interment will be in Denton cemetery.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Denton Volunteer Fire Company, 400 S. 5th Ave., Denton, MD 21629.

Lee N. Anderson, Sr.

Lee N. Anderson, Sr., age 75, of Wilmington, DE, died on Sunday, June 18, 2006.

During the Korean Conflict, he served his country proudly in the United States Marines.

Lee was predeceased by his loving wife, Doris Griffith Anderson, in 2005. Mr. Anderson is the loving father of Kenneth E., Lee N. and Donna J. Anderson; and the devoted grandfather of Maria and Erik.

The funeral service will be at 11 am on Thursday, June 22, 2006, at Chester Bethel United Methodist Church, 2618 Foulk Rd., Wilmington, DE 19810, where family and friends may call after 10. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Contributions may be made in Lee's memory to the church.

Gayle Davis

Born Gayle Elizabeth Douglas September 22, 1951 to the late William and Helen Douglas, in Kent County, Dover, DE, passed away June 16, 2006, at Christiana Hospital.

She graduated from Dover High School and attended North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC. For approximately the last 10 years, she worked at MBNA-Bank of America.

She leaves to celebrate her life her loving husband of 12 years, Arthur L. "Dave" Davis, Sr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Viewing 5-7 pm Thursday, June 22, at CONGO FUNERAL HOME, 2317 N. Market St., Wilmington. Funeral 10 am Friday, June 23, at Cedars Church of Christ, 511 Greenbank Rd., Wilmington, with a viewing at 9 am.

Gladys E. Cox

Age 94, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully at her home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 29, 2006.

Born on April 3, 1912 in Mouth of Wilson, VA, she was the daughter of the late Tommy and Ada Bare Hash. Gladys enjoyed reading to her great grandchildren, crocheting for the church sales and for gifts. Her happiest moments were spent in the garden harvesting prize vegetables and growing the most beautiful roses, lilies and babies breath to be used each Sunday in an arrangement she would do for the Glenwood Church Sunday service. No one will forget her famous chow-chow that was made for sale at the Lord's Acre each year. She was greatly loved by her family and everyone who came to know her was touched by her strength and caring nature. The family was blessed to be able to care for her at home with the help of Compassionate Care Hospice until her passing to be with the Lord.

She is survived by her son, Don E. Cox of Morriston, FL; daughter and son-in-law, Laura C. and Timothy W. Crist of Newark, DE; 6 grandchildren, Bridgette, Jennifer, John, Sr., Rachelle, Renee and Timothy, Jr.; and 11 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sisters, Cora Andrews of Galax, VA and Mae Halsey of Peach Bottom, PA. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Woodrow W. Cox; son, Captain John Thomas Cox; sister, Creola Hash; and brothers, Fields and Harmon Hash.

A memorial service will be held at 7 pm on Thursday, September 7, 2006, at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE 19711. Friends and family may call beginning at 6:30 pm. A memorial service and burial will be held Saturday, October 7, 2006, in Galax VA at the Coal Creek cemetery at 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Prader Willi Syndrome Assn. c/o the funeral home.

John J. Denning

Mr. John J. Denning, age 86, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Tuesday, August 29, 2006, at Christiana Hospital.

A native Delawarean, Mr. Denning was born in Wilmington on June 25, 1920, son of the late William Denning and Ellen Harding Denning. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Denning enjoyed a long career as a warehouseman with the Speakman Company, retiring after over 30 years of service. He also worked as a draftsman and in insurance earlier in his career. A gifted musician throughout his life, Mr. Denning was a clarinetist with many orchestras and musical groups in Delaware over the years. Most recently, he played with Music Masters, the New Castle Community Band and the Newark Community Band. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima parish where he served as a church usher.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Lucy Barone Denning; and a daughter, Elaine J. Denning and her husband, Kevin J. Nicastro, of Kensington, MD. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Edward Denning.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Saturday, September 2, 2006, at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, 801 N. Dupont Parkway, New Castle, DE 19720. Interment will follow in Cathedral cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Ave., Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Lady of Fatima RC Church.
